Liz Cheney undercuts her own excuse for not joining sister Mary’s new political consultancy shop.

Last week, the Washington Post reported that one of former Vice President Dick Cheney’s daughters, Mary, was “leaving the political consulting firm Navigators Global to start her own consulting company.” Though one of Mary’s friends told the Post that Mary’s dad and her sister, Liz, would be joining her, a spokeswoman for the family said “Liz is not involved” because “she is spending all of her time helping Vice President Cheney write his book.” But the claim that Liz Cheney is too busy with the book to take on other projects was undermined today with the launch of her new non-profit group, Keep America Safe. Politico reports:

cheneygirlsFormer Vice President Dick Cheney’s eldest daughter Liz will launch a new group aimed at rallying opposition to the “radical” foreign policy of the Obama administration which it says has succeeded only in undermining the nation’s security.

The new group, Keep America Safe, will make the case against President Barack Obama’s moves to wrench America away from Bush era foreign policy on issues from detaining alleged terrorists at Guantanamo Bay to building a missile shield in Eastern Europe.

“The policies being proposed by the Obama administration are so radical across the board,” Cheney said. “Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, you want the nation to be strong and so many steps this president is taking are making the nation weaker.”

Along with Cheney, Keep America Safe’s board features Weekly Standard editor William Kristol and Debra Burlingame, whose husband was killed in 9/11. The project is being helped by a number of former McCain campaign aides, including blogger Michael Goldfarb, war room chief Aaron Harison and video producer Justin Germany.

She is a clone of her father. Unbearable to listen to.

  2. Fred says:

liz is upset that we no longer torture.

liz is upset that we no longer are wasting money on a defense shield in eastern europe.

Guess liz should learn how to get things done. Her dad was a failure and she is following in his footsteps.

America turned it’s colletive back on the cheney’s and bush’s.

liz needs to accept that and learn from it.

Yeah, that “radical” foreign policy that won him the Nobel Peace Prize. What a big mouthed buffoon.

  5. SWBob says:

Oh yes, let’s return to the days of cheney/bush and attempt to reproduce their wonderful and successful world domination strategy which resulted in the world laughing at us and wanting chency/bush to go away.

Glad to see that line-up consists of a trio of “National Security Experts” …………

    Gimme’ a break ……….

  7. A Patriot Acting says:

The DNC has allready responded to this:

Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan emails over a response to the launch of Keep America Safe, the new group headed by Liz Cheney that began with a bang today.

“Last fall, the American people overwhelming rejected a radical foreign policy authored by Dick Cheney that alienated our allies, emboldened our enemies, depleted our resources, distracted our focus and made the nation less secure. The Cheneys lost that debate and their approach was deemed a failure. The Cheneys can continue to focus on securing their sullied legacy if they want to. But, the President will continue to focus on securing the country,” Sevugan said.

All I can say is AMEN to that!

  8. NinerFan says:

I think Keep America Safe’s first task should be to find out and then explain to all of us why Dick Cheney told NORAD to stand down on September 11, 2001. Since the organization is so close to him, they ought to be able to get an answer on that one.

  9. Virtual Pebble says:

OK, so she’s doing a book AND starting a new not-for-profit shill-o-matic operation with Billy “Whiner” Kristol. So she has even less time to work with Sis. I’d be surprised if DarthBarney has time for Sis too; he still has a few rendered prisoners in his basement back at the ranch to deal with.

It is time for people to turn to use the same rhetoric to describe the Republicans as radical and lunatic fringe. Teabaggers should be referred to as domestic terrorists rather than protesters. When it is used often enough people will associate the words with the Republicans. It will give them something to think about when they use the word “radical” and other such words. This is the same tactic Luntz advises the Republicans to use.

Thinking Liz is starting this new Org. so she would not have to be under her sister i am betting.

As you know she would not be able to handle having to seek advise by a lezzy even if its her own sister.

Isn’t it funny how the 20% deadender right-wing whackjobs in the U.S. think everyone else in the world are radicals?

  15. missmolly says:

I couldn’t find much specific information about Mary’s new independent political consulting firm (although since she indicated she would love to work on a project with her father, it’s probably a hard right operation).

But Liz seems to be pretty open about what her venture is going to be — fearmongering loud, fearmongering strong, fearmongering 24/7.

What will Liz do when everybody becomes immune to it?

  16. A Patriot Acting says:

  17. Shayne says:

Seems like Liz is planning to run for office. She probably figures daddy can intimidate enough people to get her the presidential nomination. Seems the only way to stop them would be to charge Dick with the crimes he’s already committed.

well i am hoping that a major majority has already became immune to this. But as long as they have a oppertumity to fearmonger they have the out side change that they will get a few others to think there deranged ways.

  19. NinerFan says:

With Bill Kristol on board, you know the foreign policy coming out of Keep America Safe is going to be top notch!

Here’s what Kristol said on March 5, 2003: “I think we’ll be vindicated when we discover the weapons of mass destruction and when we liberate the people of Iraq.”

On September 18, 2002, Kristol helpfully suggested that a war in Iraq “could have terrifically good effects throughout the Middle East.”

    Bill Kristol! Foreign policy expert!

    Halliburton’s stock drop recently ?

  22. roxsteady says:

If only her father and his “figure head president” Bush, had kept us safe ON September 11th, maybe she’d have more of a leg to stand on. 25. rj1008 says:

With Cheney in power, we were hit with 9/11, i.e nine months into his administration where as with President Obama, he managed to provide security to our country without an incident for ten months now. Now, who is supposed to lecture whom on national security? It is really offensive to hear from this lunatic on national security matters. She just had a desk job at state department because of her dad and she was never part of any top level security deliberations. So, who is she to lecture President Obama on how to protect our nation and why is our media continuing to give voice to her on their networks.

  26. celtic cynic says:

Somehow the concept of “Keep America Safe” just doesn’t jive with anything the cheney family has ever done.

  27. Bob says:

Here’s a group hoping for an attack. The best way to prove Obama policies are undermining our security is to be attacked. I wonder what terrorist group they’ll be working with.

“What in the friggin’ hell is “Near Eastern Affairs” ?”

From what I read she was involved in behind the scenes talks with Syria in dealing with Iran. On first glance it seems an inocuous diplomatic position but when you delve deeper she was heavily involved in trying to propogate war in Iran. When the press (particularly the Times) began to smell a rat her Dept and project where promply disbanded. I think there’s much more to this story then has been reported.

I know wikipedia’s postings are not facts written in stone but they have the most info on the subject that includes some good links for further reading:

  31. roxsteady says:

That’s the real question. Why are we forced to watch this file clerk spewing her lies? That’s right! She was not privy to any high intellegence meetings or given any state Department clearance. Yet the idiots in the media showcase this garbage. The might as well interview the janitors who worked at the State Department. They probably know just as much as she does. I hope this queen of the wingnuts does mount a run for office. What’s really remarkable is that anyone with the last name Cheney would even think about running for office ever again.

If you look at their site, you will see that this “new non-profit group” is neither. It is a group of the same, relentless Bush era neocons, playing to “conservative” sympathies for the benefit of war profiteers.
“Keeping America At War” would have been a more appropriate name for this “group”.

What, Liz, too big now to solicit the help of Tucker Bounds? He did such an awesome job with the McCain campaign, now you kick him to the curb? We need a DraftTuckerForLiz.com website to help Liz make better staffing decisions.

  41. pags2 says:

“Keep America Safe” is political action committee being used as a fundraising effort by Cheney. It is a smokescreen. Rather than attack the PAC, it will be easier to delegitimize the people behind the group. For example, Bill Kristol should be tied to Palin because he is pushing her as a presidential candidate. Palin frightens independent voters and some Republicans. Once you draw the line between point “a” and point “b”, then you can use it to make Republican candidates afraid to take money from the PAC. Another tactic is to tie the committee to radical statements by some Republicans about bombing Iran and North Korea. Goldwater was defeated by the Dem ad with the atomic bomb which was very effective. This type of tactic undermines any attempts by Republicans to make the Dems look weak on defense. This is going to be one of the issues in 2010.

Indeed, MC. Near Eastern as differemtiated from Far Eastern; it’s common foreign policy parlance. Near Eastern is also called Middle Eastern by the media; it’s SW Asia; Iraq, Iran, Turkey, plus the states of the Arabian penninsula, etc. Far Eastern is also called East Asia; China, Japan, Korea, the Russian Far East, Viet Nam, etc.

But she probably took it to be what you thought; liason to Chinatown in NYC and Little Saigon in LA.
