Fox News’ Neil Cavuto: “Is this now the ‘Bush Recovery’”?

For months and months, conservatives blamed President Obama for the slumping stock market. “Obama, since he’s elected, has tanked the markets,” Fox News’ Sean Hannity said in March. Now that the Dow has rebounded to over 10,000, what are the conservatives saying? On his Fox News today, Neil Cavuto claimed the stock market rebound is evidence of a “Bush recovery”:

Ah well, I guess they don’t have to. It’s not like their audience demands it.

Heck, it’s not like their audience can even discern it.

  8. Mike Hunt says:

Bush is a recovering alcoholic. The economic recovery now underway with Barack’s guidance has nothing to do with Chimponomics and is in fact the antithesis of Chimponomics. That won’t stop the Repignofascists from tryimg to divert attention from reality, but Cheney them!

Oh, it is! It is! The progress will be taken for credit and the blame will be pushed around.

We will stop at nothing to make republican principles “work”, even if it’s not actually in a republican administration.

People have got to believe us and we’ve got to retake power.

You voters listening out there? You vote dem all you want, you work for us, and the credit is due in our column.

I hope TP posted this latest. The lizard man Senator Assley has competition in his re-election bid in Iowa. The former Guv’s wife has thrown her hat in the ring:

Former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack, wife of former Gov. Tom Vilsack, now says she’s considering a run for Senate in 2010 against Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley.

“I think I’m qualified to serve, so time will tell.” Vilsack told WHO-TV, the central Iowa NBC station.

“You know, I’ve spent the last 12 years traveling around the state, developing a relationship with the people of Iowa,” she explained, “and I just really appreciate the fact that people have been so supportive in suggesting this. But, as I said, time will tell.”

Grassley was first elected in the 1980 Reagan landslide, and has been re-elected by comfortable margins ever since, winning 70% of the vote in 2004.

Yup, recovered enough from Shrub that it’s finally going back up a little. Hasn’t been long enough to call it a trend though. Still got a lot of twigs and branches jammed in it that will have to be cleared before we can call it a) fully recovered and b) the Obama economy.

There’s no point to blaming Shrub now though. There will probably be some fallout having to do with the historical account of these times, and there will always be finger pointing and revisionism among economic historians, but for the actual work of getting the economy moving and keeping it moving in the right direction, paying any heed to Shrub is just a counterproductive distraction. Apart, that is, from drawing the necessary lessons learned from the Shrub & DarthBarney screwups. And any civil or criminal judgement against the Shrub administration is probably years away, if ever, particularly on economic matters, aside from all that sole source contracting with Halliburton/KBR etc, which still stinks a mighty stench.

  42. Arctic Ghetto says:

We may recover from Bush but there always be the scar. Moderates? My ass!

Snowe will not vote in favor of the final bill because it will have what the people of Maine want: A CHEAP PUBLIC INSURANCE OPTION. She sides with the insurance company’s CEO’S and their investors! She also received money from DLA Piper which was the place Dick Armey worked for before starting FreedomWorks. Snowe is a winger!

  102. pags2 says:

In 2010 and 2012 the corporate interests in the US are going to line up against the Republicans. These bailouts saved a number of businesses from bankruptcy. The business community is going to give money to Dems who voted for these bailouts. There is no reason for the business community to support people who were against the bailouts. How is Cavuto and Fox going to spin this?

Why get too upset with the history rewrite?

This exercise of Cuvuto makes the Republicans look all the more ridiculous.

  111. angels81 says:

Juan, lets put this numbers game you play about how many people watch faux news over MSNBC or CNN.

Fact: The vast majority of Americans don’t watch any of the cable news shows. Most people may check in and get the headline news of the day and then they are gone. Most Americans have better things to do in their life, then sit around and listen to some stupid talking head tell them what to think.

The only “Bush recovery” that I know of would be early evening after a rip-roaring drunk-it-all the night before.

Thanks for the clip, THINK PROGRESS. You guys watch this crap so that I don’t have to.

  123. wolfsinger says:

Isn’t it absolutely stunning how misty eyed Neil gets when he talks longingly of W?

Just like Bill “The Bloody” Kristol. EEwwwuuu!

I wish they would all just get a room and leave the rest of us out of their weird life plans.

  125. DallasNE says:

Bush did sign TARP into law. He even spent half the funds contained in that bill so Bush is responsible for some of that recovery. An example of that is the results JPMorgan announced today where their quarterly profit was something like $3.6 billion. Another example is the huge bonuses that are waiting to be paid out. Yes, some of that does trickle down and contribute to the recovery. It is just that we didn’t get very much bang for the taxpayer bucks coming from TARP. Its contribution to the national debt has been staggering. While Bush deserves to have his contribution acknowledged I would not think Republicans would want to be bringing up TARP, how it was administered and why it, in some form, became necessary. On the otherhand that is about the best thing they have to talk about.

If only this hadn’t been so Pitifully forseeable. I’m waiting for him to somehow claim that Pres #43 is actually responsible for it.

    You mean, like this?

If it weren’t for the economic policies put into place by the Bush Administration, we wouldn’t be seeing this rebound in the Stock Market.

    You still here [Juan]?
Did you even read Arianna Huffington’s article

Huffington is attacking Obama’s plans to escalate troops in Afghanistan. Biden has shown reservations about General McChrystal and his plan, and Huff says he should remain if Obama follows the General’s plan, then Biden should resign to make an impact on how much he disagrees with McChrystal.

She said it in a video interview to CNN.

Chris Tweety Matthews really needs a serious beating.

Is it any wonder why only 500,000 people watch his show, anymore?

Really? Nielsen said this last week he got 731,000 viewers. That’s the second highest for the 7pm timeslot.

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/10/14/cable-news-ratings-for-tuesday-october-13-2009/30487

…and y’know what I figured out by looking at those ratings numbers? All the so-called “left” programs added together blow single conservative FOX’s numbers out of the water. So much for insisting more conservatives are watching TV news than “liberals” are.

Unbelievable. This stupid damn channel would be pulled off the air in any decent country. How evil to keep chear leading for the most vile, murderous and genocidal president the fKing usa ever had.

  135. Angellight says:

The U.S. electorate must wake-up to the fact that we are experiencing George Bush & the Republican Era’s Recession. We must have More liberal seats if we are to implement changes toward main street and not Wall Street. GOP gains will just thwart this direction and continue the same trend which has devastated this country. The GOP will say anything to regain their power. They are not for the average folks!

The GOP Party of No in the healthcare debate continue to mouth that they are against healthcare reform because they want to control and keep healthcare costs down! Well they have not done a good job at it so far and it quite ironic and hypocritical because to control healthcare costs, one must have the Public Option! Even a 3rd grader understands that…

As for the controversy of Rush Limbaugh, who day in and day out, has made millions influencing and shaping minds and hearts toward hatred, divisiveness, racial intolerance and just genuine negativity! He has been a pestilence and cancer on society. He has contributed mightily toward the culture of uncivility and rudeness! America is changing. America must change toward civility, tolerance, cooperation, all the things Rush Limbaugh is not and does not represent.

  136. lvdragonlady says:

“On his Fox News today, Neil Cavuto claimed the stock market rebound is evidence of a “Bush recovery” ”

Um… No. Neil Cavuto did not make this claim, rather he is questioning the validity of the statement Bush made in South Korea. Did you actually watch the segment?

  142. Mr.Duke says:

  143. mari2RR says:

Only some stupid person like this could make such a comment. As a matter of fact, all their wailing about the Obama dip in the economy must also mean that any thing done to revive the slumping economy is to his credit. But alas, even a Republican like me understands that that is the only rational way to assess this recovery. But sad to say, that attitude is the entire point of Republicans these days. They NEVER owned up to the disaster Bush was both to the economy and to the military endeavors he oversaw. Poor thing just bumbled through while our party was rooting for every silly thing Bush did!

  144. StewartIII says:

“Prepare yourself for an instant classic of disinformation. It starts with those fine, fine folks at Think Progress. They kicked off the echo chamber mania by posting [this screengrab], tossing in an incendiary (and cleverly inaccurate) headline:”

    http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/cavuto.JPG
    -
‘Fox News’ Neil Cavuto: “Is this now the ‘Bush Recovery’”?’
    -
“Then they added a little more fabrication to the mix:”
    -
‘On his Fox News [sic] today, Neil Cavuto claimed the stock market rebound is evidence of a “Bush recovery”:’
    -
“No surprise, the story spread to other Fox hater sites, like News Corpse:”
    -
‘Fox has raised the stakes and brought in their “A” game. They are now, in all seriousness, proposing that what we are seeing here are the effects of the Bush recovery.’
    -
“Two websites using the same screengrab, with no video. And then we have the newspooches:”
    -
‘Cavuto Asks If This “Is Now The Bush Recovery”’
    -
“Actually you don’t have to read very far in to catch the fact that Cavuto’s question has been slightly doctored. What he actually asked was:”
    -
‘What was once the Bush recession is now the Bush recovery? Or is it a bit of a stretch?’
    -
“The bowsers quote guest Jim LaCamp’s thesis about Bush and the recovery, then they quote Cavuto as saying:”
    -
‘You’re either a goat and only stay that way or suddenly become a llama.’
    -
“And the hounds have a video clip. A video clip so good that Think Progress actually did an update to link to it! Yet there is something odd about the mutt video: it presents only about one minute of the interview! Let’s look at the hound video and see where it ends:”
    -
‘JIM LaCAMP: I don’t blame [Bush] for the banking problem, I don’t give him all the credit for the recovery, but you can’t blame him for the problem if you don’t give him some credit for those moves that were made that are helping these banks start to recover.
CAVUTO: You’re either a goat and only stay that way or suddenly become a llama. I don’t know. But–’
    -
“Did you catch that, how when the bowsers quoted Cavuto they left off those four words that show he wasn’t agreeing with the guest? And that brings up another question. The mongrels cut off poor Mr Cavuto literally in mid-sentence. Why? What was he about to say? We’ll tell you what the newsliars don’t want you to know:”
    -
‘CAVUTO: You’re either a goat and only stay that way or suddenly become a llama. I don’t know. But let me ask you about what has happened since then. We’ve had rescues after rescues, and sometimes rescues for the rescues. And so whatever President Bush unleashed he might have regretted it. He hasn’t said so in so many words, but one rescues begat auto rescues begat this, this, and this, and everyone has their hand out. What do you make of that and whether we might regret saying it was all good?’
    -
“Whoa! Does that sound like Cavuto praising Bush? No wonder Think Propaganda was eager to link to the hound video. It was sliced and diced almost perfectly to match their little screengrab. You can [listen] to the rest of the segment for yourself and you will find that nowhere does Neil Cavuto “claim the stock market rebound is evidence of a ‘Bush recovery’”. A lie from Think Progress, mindlessly recycled by News Corpse, and enhanced with cropped video from the mongrels. A trifecta of trickery.”

    http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/blog/user_files/bushrally.mp3

“By the way, two can play that screengrab game:”

    http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/blog/user_files/sliding.jpg

“We could adopt the Think Propaganda approach and say: Look, Fox News is biased for Obama, making excuses for the economy! But we won’t, because we don’t lie.”
