Sean Hannity on Nobel Peace Prize: ‘Frankly, I would’ve given it to George Bush.’

Last night, Fox News host Sean Hannity hosted a panel that debated the merits of President Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize. After complaining about Obama’s goal of eliminating nuclear weapons and claiming that the Nobel is undesirable because Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat receieved it, Hannity suggested an alternative recipient for the award — former President George W. Bush:

HANNITY: [Yasser Arafat] got the Nobel peace prize. Excuse me, a terrorist got the Nobel peace prize. Some people deservedly so. You know who else deserved it? Ronald Reagan. And frankly, I would’ve given it to George Bush.

Watch it:

As many commentators have noted, the Nobel Prize appears to have been motivated in part by anti-Bush sentiment, which makes Hannity’s suggestion particularly absurd. After all, George W. Bush engaged in the torture of detainees, waged an unprovoked and illegal war, and brought about the largest protests in history against U.S. policies — hardly behavior that is fitting for a Nobel Peace Prize.

I would only go along with that if they were stuffing it up his a$$.

I really hope the GOP is still singing Bush’s praises in 2012. I keep worrying that between now and then they will get some sense and start tossing that millstone. If 2012 comes around and they are still praising Bush, Cheney, and Rush this election will go the same way the last one did – with Obama being the winner.

  9. ralph the wonder llama says:

dbadass, I tend to think this Murphis character isn’t worth your time or mine.

So, in the context of that conversation, is he saying George Bush and Ronald Reagan were terrorists too?

Don’t fool yourself people, it’s anti-USA sentiment that got BO the prize money. They hated us long before George Bush I or II took the oath of office.

I guess that’s why the subsequently-announced prizes in medicine and economics went to Americans also, hm?

  18. mary lacewing says:

I think the hullabaloo even took the committee by surprise. In their recently released ‘explanation’:

Jagland singled out Obama’s efforts to heal the divide between the West and the Muslim world and scale down a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe.

“All these things have contributed to _ I wouldn’t say a safer world _ but a world with less tension,” he said.

Years ago I’d heard that someone had nominated Bush for the award and I went out of my way to email anyone and everyone on the committee to tell them how way off base that nomination was. I signed off each email with:

‘Feeling less safe than ever with Bush as president,’

I wonder if they gave Obama the award now to head off the critics and avoid the organized opposition that would surely have materialized if word had gotten out about Obama’s nomination?

  25. ralph the wonder llama says:

dbadass, I admire your commitment to research the absurdities of the human condition as expressed in anonymous blog postings.

My assessment of Murphis is that he is the creation of a really bored troll who has decided to deal with his boredom by testing the boundaries of minimalism.

While one can’t help but admire the way this executes the concept of “form follows function” — i. e., minimally coherent material might best be expressed by a minimalist approach — still, I have to figure there are better uses of my blogging time.

It feels to me like criticizing the Sunday morning “Cathy” cartoon. I mean, jeez, talk about low-hanging fruit.

  26. Hoodathunk says:

  27. shoeless says:

  30. Pelotonpro 048 says:

Hannity is a dull boy. He appeals to anti-intellectuals and people who can not even grasp simple concepts like their own best interest. I’m sure he would award the Nobel prize to some evil entity! Unfortunately for him he’s not that relevant and never will be. If I didn’t read TP or watch Kieth Olberman and others on MSNBC I would have no idea who he is. I think he would be surprised at how many people barely know who he is. People on TV often assume that everyone knows who they are. Sean Hannity? You mean that dull BOY on Faux?

@ 2. Murphis says: reagen end the cold war not 1 shot fird, no peac prize? October 14th, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Wrong again. The Cold War didn’t end until, or after, the collapse of the Soviet Union, which occured in 1991, on George H.W. Bush’s watch. So if only the last President to face down the Soviets during the Cold War is the the only one to get credit, it’s Bush 41. I would think that many historians would credit every President from Truman through Bush 41. And given that we went to (more-or-less) full scale war in Korea and Vietnam, and had some nasty little skirmishes in other places where some of our guys and some of the other guys ended up dead, I don’t think you can say not one shot fired.

Granted, Reagan probably had fewer skirmishes on his watch than most Presidents, but a fair number of Americans got killed anyway. The biggest one was when the Marine Barracks in Beirut was bombed, after which the Sainted Ronnie decided that pulling the troops instead of whacking Hezbollah was the thing to do. Some people say that wasn’t connected to the Cold War, but don’t kid yourself about that; there were always proxy connections in Lebanon, Syria being the main proxy player on the Soviet side. The major proxy connections that Reagan played were the contras in Nicaragua and the rightist ‘death squad’ groups in El Salvador.

You should go read several 20th Century history books. Then read them again. Then talk with more people than the ideologues on the right about that history.

“They” are those that over generations have failed to meet the standards of personal conduct and equitable government set forth by great men. I doubt even you would suggest that Europe is now or ever has been an example for nations to build upon.

Though deeply flawed this country has come the closest to those standards than any nation on earth in recorded history. You can be proud of that or you can be European, you can’t be both. That Reagan guy like almost every other President of this exceptional nation was paraphrsing some very famous people when they said:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”—Jesus, from the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:14-16.

    and this….

“For we must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill, the eyes of all people are upon us; so that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall shame the faces of many of God’s worthy servants, and cause their prayers to be turned into curses . . .”—John Winthrop, aboard the Arbella, 1630

1630 Oh biblical quotes! Quick let’s haul out Lee Greenwood! you make me sick! European countries do many things better than we do. Medicine, Public transportation and tourism to name a few. If we continue to deny that other countries are doing a lot of things better than we do the only place to go is down

Remove the bases in The Korean Peninsula and Okinawa? They may be dancing in the streets of Beijing and Seoul, but the massive over-night evacuation out of Tokyo would look a lot like Saigon ‘75. This is the very reason why Japan should be permitted to build nuclear weapons.

  96. NinerFan says:

Lorne, why would Russia want to attack Europe when Europe is his best customer? Why would China attack Japan, when many of China’s factories make products bought in Japan?

It seemed a little over the top 35 years ago, but it’s truer now than it was then. We live in a 21st Century multinational corporate world. You’re still stuck in the 50’s. Get with it. World War on a massive scale is over.

No question, Cheney and Bush would never have invaded if the Iraqi’s had a viable theater nukes. They waited for the UN “all-clear” before proceeding with their conventional war/occupation. Obviously, a nuke-free world is desirable, but when a boy-king with parental issues gets selected in the country with the largest military war machine, I can understand why a country that is labeled an ‘evil-doer’ would consider this as a last line of defense.

  100. dasm says:

Ah, yes, a peace prize for a man who started an illegal war killing 100s of thousands of innocent Iraqis & thousands of Americans, a man who threatened other countries with WWIII, a man who bullied allies with “you’re either with us or against us”— Hannity proves himself to be as delusional & as big a fool as ever.

  101. George W. Bush says:

I have a bumper sticker that reads, “Thank me, George W. Bush”.

  102. zuch says:

Sean Hannity on Nobel Peace Prize:

“Frankly, I would’ve given it to George Bush.”

Translated from Republican into English: “Frankly, I’m a complete moron and hack.”

But this is no news to any sapient being. Which might explain why only FauxSnooze is proclaiming it loudly.

    Cheers,

  103. Zooey says:

HANNITY: [Yasser Arafat] got the Nobel peace prize. Excuse me, a terrorist got the Nobel peace prize. Some people deservedly so. You know who else deserved it? Ronald Reagan. And frankly, I would’ve given it to George Bush.

    Wow!!

I agree with Mannity — Reagan and GW Bush are terrorists, too.

  104. Zooey says:

    iRi is back.

    *yawn*

  105. Bozo The Neoclown says:

    frankly, midget-boy hannity,
    you’re a brown nosed ass-kissing moron.

  107. Levi the Oracle says:

If Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke, its a joke on Republicans.

  108. Zooey says:

    Repiggies:

Big government/massive debt under Reagan = good
Big government/even more massive debt under Bush 2 = good
Big Corporations looting the treasury of the US = good

US getting the Olympics = bad
President getting the Nobel Prize = bad
    Economy recovering = bad

The Repiggies are destroying themselves. Yeah, I’m laughing.

  109. Pelotonpro 048 says:

Fox News has a safe demographic. The majority of their viewers cannot read.

  110. cletusk says:

Well it doesn’t matter what Hannity or GOP members think because they don’t make the decision of who gets the prize…so too f#$@ing bad if they don’t like it – that’s what they would tell you if you weren’t happy about it and they were.

If George Bush had deserved it he would have been awarded it, and he obviously he does not have, nor was ever even considered by the nobel board to receive the nobel peace prize…so that says something about his international status.

  111. Arctic Ghetto says:

What Hannity is saying is he thinks Bush’s policies killed too few people. He wants his blood cake and eat it too.

  112. majii says:

It never ceases to amaze me that these dummies don’t realize that the NPP Committee doesn’t have to consult them before making its’ decision, and that nothing they say will change the fact President Barack Hussein Obama is the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner

They are some arrogant, egotistical SOBs.

  113. Leftside Annie says:

“Sean Hannity on Nobel Peace Prize: ‘Frankly, I would’ve given it to George Bush.’”

…yeah, along with a bl0wjob and a shoeshine, right, Sean?

  114. evangenital says:

George W. Bush would probably confuse the words “Nobel” and “noble.”

Thank God that we now have a president who can actually articulate his own thoughts and speak intelligently.

George W. Bush is, at best, a symptom of a hideous disease rampant within the white-wing swamps and bogs of this nation.

  115. Arctic Ghetto says:

Frankly, Sean has never said anything frankly.

  116. mamzic says:

Hannity said “they gave it to a terrorist, Yasser Arafat.”

He forgot to mention (probably didn’t know) they also gave it to another terrorist.

    Menachem Begin.

Who was a terrorist member of the Irgun as a young man, and was still wanted by the British for blowing up the King David Hotel and the hanging of two British soldiers.

One man’s terrorist is another man’s heroic “freedom fighter.”

  117. Tim43 says:

The war monger Obama certainly doesn’t deserve the prize. Other than the fact THAT HE HAS DONE NOTHING TO DESERVE IT, Iraq troops have not yet been reduced and obama has actually increased troops in Afghanistan. Can anyone say war monger?

Er’ should it really be considered a prize anymore? Think about it. Al “global warning” Gore got the prize for telling us that the globe was warning all while the globe has been actually cooling over the last 10 years. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1658580/posts

    Duh?

If George Bush had deserved it he would have been awarded it,

Actually, only non-deserving liberals get the prize. Jimmy ‘anti-semetic’ Carter, Al “global warming” Gore, Barack “Done Nothing” Obama.

The fact that Bush liberated 25 million Iraqi muslims from a tyranical leader would only have counted toward the award if he was a liberal democrat. The fact that he is republican gives liberals fodder to completely dismiss the good that he did for Iraqi’s who love freedom.

But, then again, liberals love tyrants. Chavez and Castro are your hero’s.

Obama is that dreaded N word. He’s, … he’s secretly a Norwegian. Probably even a secret Norwegian secret agent of the secret Norwegian double agent variety. The Norwegians are just using the Peace Prize to get his secret Norwegian double agent payoff to him; that way he’ll be able to bribe a few Republipimps to vote his way (not that they’ll stay bought, mind you – there is always dishonor among thieves).

Oh man, that reminds me of the hilarious Wyatt Cenac clip from TDS where he’s exposing the “evils” of socialism by going to Sweden to show how horrible life is there. :D

    http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-april-21-2009/the-stockholm-syndrome-pt–1

I still crack up over him randomly yelling in the middle of the street “Wake up people! Don’t you know you’re living in a socialist nightmare?!?”

I don’t think the Nobel Board recognizes or considers the United States’ labels of political affiliation of a person when determining the qualities that make them worthy of the Nobel peace prize.

    Additionally….

“Liberating” 25million Iraqi Muslims at the cost of completely destroying and disrupting the lives of most of those people, causing them to go without electricity or water and live in an urban warfare environment for upwards of 6 years and concurrently racially profiling those Muslim citizens in your own country as terrorist sympathizers, while being the commander in chief of armed forces who’s soldiers are allowed to humiliate, torture, dehumanize and rape pow’s and detainees, while also illegally wire tapping his own citizen’s phone calls against the constitution, failing to put a stop to the Al Qaida terrorist organization ring by diverting resources to an unprovoked war in another country and allowing unchecked corrupt business practices which practically brought down the entire world economy hardly aligns a person with creating a more peaceful world environment.

LOL! Ironic considering that “Conservatives” propped up Saddam Hussein and funded Osama calling him a “freedom fighter” while he was fighting the “commies”! ;)

Project much – fascist extremist? ;)

LOL! A leader that you “Republicans” put into office to fight the commies because he was a right win fascist? LOL! Have you heard? Most Iraqis say they are “worse off” today than under Saddam. So much for “liberation” on the round – huh? Guess that’s what happens when a “Fascist” liberates you? Much like when hitler “Liberated” france? ;)

As usual, Hannity contradicts himself . .

If the Nobel Peace Prize is so UNdesirable, WHY does Hannity think Bush should have been the receipient??

    Duh . .

  132. DNFP says:

    Wrong you are “insanity.”

You must have forgotten, Dumbya wanted to play “wartime” President.

Cuz without such playtime, his agenda was about as full as the Grand Canyon.

  133. Loonie says:

Well of course you would, Sean, you’re a stupid mean-spirited little right-wing partisan hack.

  134. Xisithrus says:

  135. Uncle Fester Lurks says:
