Rep. Shadegg: ‘We’re getting full on Russian gulag, Soviet-style gulag healthcare.’

Yesterday on the floor of the House of Representatives, Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) ranted against health reform. While his colleagues have used inflammatory rhetoric to denigrate various health proposals — like inventing imaginary “death counselors” and saying reform will “absolutely kill seniors” — Shadegg’s speech hit a new low. Shadegg said health reform will result in “Russian gulag, Soviet-style gulag healthcare”:

SHADEGG: You know, it occurs to me, and I’ll go through these other scandals very quickly, but what we’re really getting here is we’re not just getting single-payer care. We’re getting full on Russian gulag, Soviet-style gulag health care [...] It appeared in last Friday’s Wall Street Journal. You can Google it. You can pick up the phone and call Kim Strassel. You can ask her about Soviet-style gulag health care in America, where powerful politicians protect their constituents.

Watch it:

The Soviet gulags were a network of prisons and forced labor camps that held as many as 20 million people during Stalin’s reign of terror. It is estimated 1.5 million died in the camps.

Did they have health care in the gulags? I thought they just let people die? Wait a minute, isn’t this another case of Republican projection? Isn’t letting people die is what we have now?

Rep. John Shadegg and the rest of the Republican Party don’t seem to understand this rhetoric is beginning to wear thin.

I wish they would give us a break and try a different angle.

Maybe Election Day will be the only cure.

oh, oh, I’ve got it! Gulags! Soviets! Soviet gulags!

You know, my priest (Russian Orthodox) is a pretty conservative guy, but I’m pretty sure that comparing national healthcare to anything that Stalin ever did in Soviet Russia is a good way to make him apoplectic. With good reason, I might add. Funny how these teabaggers love to use the most inappropriate hyperboles to make their ridiculous talking points without having a CLUE as to the real horror behind their examples.

    ***Yawn*** Calm down, kidlets.

It’s just more demagogue politics. Kinda like when Pelosi(D) called the tea bag wingnuts ‘nazis’, or when Rep. Grayson(D) said Repubs want people to die, or when Harry Reid(D) called town hall protesters ‘evil mongers’, and Rep. Baird(D) called them ‘brownshirts’, or when CNN’s Chris (leg tinkle) Matthews said radio blow hard Limbaugh should die…

You know, good clean political invective.

The simple fact is none of this over blown nonsense addresses the true issue: The gub’mint has NO business in the insurance business. (See Article 10 of the U.S. Constitution.) Period. End of sentence.

First of all, Chris Matthews is on MSNBC, not CNN. If you knew what you were talking about, you would know at least that much. Perhaps you only watch Fox News Channel. That would be pitiable.

Second, the insurance companies are the ones who have no business being in the health care delivery system. They contribute nothing to the health of patients, and with their primary motivation being profits, and not the health of their patients, they should have no voice in the debate at all.

We need Single Payer now, and the insurance companies’ despicable threat to increase premiums as a result of any health care reform passing is proof of that.

Will this pinhead apologize to the health care workers who take care of the ill and the infirmed? In fact, no one has ever apologized to the health care workers who care for the dying in hospices when they were called Nazi guards at concentration camps.

I’ll never forgive them for their demonization of health care workers. Never.

We trust Doctors when they make a medical diagnosis and prescribe, often-lifesaving, treatment and medication, so why are 75 percent of U.S. Doctors suddenly NOT trusted when they diagnose that our current healthcare system is ill, injured, needs repairing, needs reform? Why?)

And apparently this Rep. Shadegg, a right-wing Republican nutjob extremis, thinks that three out of four Doctors in America are Communist for their support of at least a Public Option…which would help get the health insurance claims adjusters off their backs so they could do their jobs better, more humanely, more efficiently.

While I have some big concerns with policies in the U.S. it’s never crossed my mind to say what!! “DUI stops on spring break in Texas”?? What’s next execution of intellectuals and the forced resettlement out of the cities? I am concerned that many of my fellow citizens on the right where raised like the bubble boy and have a very low constitution so as to want to kill anything that may be scary or unfamiliar.

Go ask Michelle anchor baby that question.

For an anchor baby, it is her suggestion that anchor babies should be refused citizenship.

But they love to shout commie, socialist, fascist, nazi, and never even try to show how they got to that conclusion. I’ll give them credit though, at least they can make a good living killing america.

Three out of four Doctors recommend the Public Option.

Remember all the commercials that started “Three out of four doctors recommend…” or “Four our of five Dentists recommend…”? Well, three out of four Doctors DO recommend the Public Option, so why haven’t some of these 75 percent of doctors run a commercial stating their support for the Public Option?

We trust Doctors when they make a medical diagnosis and prescribe, often-lifesaving, treatment and medication, so why are 75 percent of U.S. Doctors suddenly NOT trusted when they diagnose that our current healthcare system is ill, injured, needs repairing, needs reform? Why?

Think of the current U.S. healthcare system as a body, a body with a diseased heart -caused by health insurance and pharmaceutical company greed- and with both legs cutoff below the knees -representing the missing uninsured/underinsured/preexisting condition citizens.

And three out of four American Doctors are prescribing a Public Option heart transplant, replacing the diseased for-profit heart with a Public Option heart that will at least give American citizens a choice and give some legs to our healthcare system.

  148. Virtual Pebble says:

@ 3. conservative guy says: Shadegg is a great American. October 14th, 2009 at 8:18 pm

Prove that, conguy. Prove that Shadegg is something other than a fracking fearmongering idiot. It’s obvious that he has no idea what he’s talking about; gulag is probably just a word to him. He’s probably never read one word from Solzhenitsyn, but his PR flack told him that “Soviet gulag medical care” would go over well with the base.

The worst cronyism in American health care insurance, per Shadegg’s comment about, “…Soviet-style gulag health care in America, where powerful politicians protect their constituents…” is that portion of the system where powerful politicians protect the insurance company constituents who’ve bought them.

“Health care” in the gulag, at it’s worst, or even at average, makes conservative nightmares about the UK’s National Health Service look like a sweet dream of the proverbial gleaming city upon a hill. Health care in the gulag ranged from zip to whatever a zek with medical training could provide with no medications, no hygenic facilities for instruments – which would have amounted to crap like spoons sharpened on a rock, and so on, up to ordinary Soviet clinical care; it was largely dependent on just where the prisoner, the zek, was, and it was arbitrary.

But if you, conguy, and your friends are paranoid enough to think that’s where our health care system is going, fine; think that. Unfortunately, nobody is talking about doing anything to the health care system; this whole fracking argument is about how fees are going to be collected and paid and whether there will be a publicly available insurance system in parallel to the anti-competitive “private” insurance non-market.

Why don’t you take your pimping for insurance company pimps somewhere else, conguy?

Don’t worry meat bag I voted all your posts up. I’m your biggest fan, because you make life so easy. I mean, If they’re here, they are automatically stupid and NEED to be voted down by smarter people like you. And I love how you keep your cool no matter what people say. You never let those peons distract you from letting them know how they’re not you. Your questions are so insightful and delightfully witty. Not much wrong with a single payer plan in the first place. In the second place, Obama has very openly expressed what he wants from the healthcare bill. In the third place he doesn’t write the bills or pass the laws (unlike chimpy). He lets congress do their job. If you don’t like the health bill talk to your congress person, but don’t slam Obama unless you really have some dirt.
