Spurned couple responds: ‘If it wasn’t for interracial couples today, we wouldn’t have our president.’
Last week, Louisiana couple Beth and Terence McKay revealed that justice of the peace Keith Bardwell had recently refused to give them a marriage license because they are an interracial couple. “I don’t do interracial marriages because I don’t want to put children in a situation they didn’t bring on themselves,” Bardwell said. “In my heart, I feel the children will later suffer.” Today on CNN, the McKays responded to Bardwell:
TERENCE McKAY: He says the only reason he doesn’t marry interracial couple is dealing with — because of the offspring of the marriages. If it wasn’t for interracial couples today, we wouldn’t have our president. So, for him to take that outlook, that’s still 1800s or something.

I think that he should resign since he has shown that he is unable to uphold the standards of his office. Other news accounts have also made it clear that he has committed the same crime in the past, but the victims may not have been as eager to complain in public about his actions.
Miscegenation laws were relegated to the history books only about forty years ago, but even today mixed “race” couples can face discrimination. I would hope that people recognize the parallels between these case and the absurdity of not allowing two Americans to marry simply because they both happen to be of the same gender.

If Bardwell has a problem providing a service to citizens in his parish who are not requesting anything illegal of him, he should resign. It certainly appears that Mr. Bardwell has issues related to heritage which are inappropriate for him to apply to citizens. As for his stated rationale, children frequently have problems, regardless of parentage; that argument doesn’t wash.
As for Vitter, he damned well ought to keep his mouth shut on virtually any issue. He’s as entitled to his opinion as anyone else, but given his known propensity for lying hypocrisy, why should anyone give him the benefit of consideration of his views? You can’t tell whether he’s lying or not, you can’t tell whether he truly believes what he’s spouting, you might not even be able to discern whether he’s speaking factually or from opinion. He ought to resign and STFU. Not necessarily in that order.

You don’t pay much attention to the graduation rates in red-states, do you? If you did, you’d know that almost all states that went Republican in the 2008 Presidential election are in the bottom half.
There is an obvious statistical correlation between successful graduation and higher IQ.
