On his Fox News show today, Glenn Beck said that “in the last couple of years” he’s been “trying to read a different Founding Father all the time,” offering that his latest interest is in Samuel Adams. According to Beck, Samuel Adams would have hated modern day progressives. “We call them progressives now, but back in Samuel Adams’ day, they used to call them tyrants,” said Beck. “A little later, I think they were also called slave owners.” Watch it:
It’s kind of odd that Beck deifies the Founding Fathers while attacking progressives as “slave owners,” considering that some of the most famous Founding Fathers owned slaves.
Progressives as slave owners??!! I thought white men were slave owners? WTF?
October 20th, 2009 at 7:04 pmBut guys like Beck have always been known by one name only:
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
idiots.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:05 pmWait… it was the Progressives who fired on Ft. Sumter?
Who knew?
October 20th, 2009 at 7:06 pmI don’t have tv so I have never seen this dude but what is his story? It seems he is just a sideshow. Are there really people that think what he says has any substance or is this just Jerry Springer type shit?
October 20th, 2009 at 7:06 pmFunny, Progressives are open to new ideas and willing to work under a big tent to move democracy forward and work for the good of ALL of “We the People”.
I’ve always equated “Tyrants” and “Slave Owners” to the Authoritians that are much more aligned with Repuglicans.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:08 pmWhat a sad, sad song. What is worse–Beck spewing this nonsense or the legion of dullards that watch it and nod their heads in agreement–even though they have no idea what they’re agreeing with.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:11 pm4 – his acolytes take him deadly seriously, and think he’s some kind of messiah of lukewarm intellect and inflammatory rhetoric, who’s come to save their sorry ignorant asses from the “tyranny of the smart people” – which to them is the real reason they’ve got no prospects in life and no hope of improvement.
beck is there to tell them that they’re right to resent smart people, and that the companies that parasitically suck them dry and casually lay them off are their “real friends” in the world, and that those damned do-gooders in government are the real enemy…
October 20th, 2009 at 7:11 pmBeck Bores
October 20th, 2009 at 7:12 pmNow, he does realize that most, if not all of the founding fathers had slaves. In fact, Thomas Jefferson had a child with one of his slaves!
Once again, Bobby Hill did not do the research–
October 20th, 2009 at 7:12 pmI’m not too suprised the words “ignorance” and “vice” jumped out at beck.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:13 pmIt was probably the only two words in the book he could relate to.
when i go down to the homeless shelter with food, i always administer a political affiliation test before passing anything out.
i tell the homeless righties (yes, there are) that they’re getting exactly what they deserve – nothing.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:14 pmBeck busy putting his sockpuppet on others…shocker? Not.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:15 pmA wonderful new up-is-down-ism.
We all know which party is the party of bigots, just like we all know the region of the country that is their headquarters.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:15 pmIts gonna be much more fun to watch Beck when he moves from Vicks to going into trances and smacking people on the forehead
October 20th, 2009 at 7:16 pmWow. This is the biggest whopper that benighted moron has ever told…
Whew. That’s like completely and totally WRONG.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:16 pmFrederick Douglass was a slave owner, Glenn?
October 20th, 2009 at 7:17 pmYou sure he wasn’t busy drinking Sam Adams as opposed to reading about Samual Adams?
RIP
October 20th, 2009 at 7:17 pmSGT Stephen R. Sherman

I wonder if Haley Barbour is descended from slave owner?
October 20th, 2009 at 7:18 pmI wonder if Beck shares Samuel Adams views on the importance of free public education?
October 20th, 2009 at 7:19 pmWhat is an idiot to do except continue being an idiot!
October 20th, 2009 at 7:19 pmAnd considering that Thomas Jefferson was possibly affected with Asperger’s…
One must wonder how Beck would feel if he understood that he was worshiping a ‘retarded’ slave owner.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:20 pmThis nut is just nuts.
And uh-huh…tell us all about how FauxNoise is just a news channel.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:20 pmA political TV-evangelist, a complete fraud.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:20 pmHave you heard of James Madison, Beck?
Give him a read, he’s got something to say straight to you…
“Liberty may be endangered by the abuses of liberty as well as the abuses of power.”
I’ll thank you to stop taking liberties with history, Glenn.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:25 pmNext Beck will claim he is channeling the founding fathers.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:32 pmMan, is it just me or does it seem like Beck is just spiraling out of reality? Everyday he just gets weirder and weirder.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:32 pmGot to hand it to Beck, he’s certainly unknowledgeable about a great many subjects.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:32 pmBeckerhead is an as$hole who has no business being on TV for any reason.
Also his viewers are also as$hole, very ignorant as$holes if they really believe this sh!t.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:40 pmI suppose he asked “a concerned conservative” about this.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:41 pmI think hes on his third spiral in a five spiral crash.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:46 pmIf progressives were Slave Owners…does Beck consider ending slavery to be Progress???
October 20th, 2009 at 7:47 pmI give it 6 month’s before he kill’s himself
October 20th, 2009 at 7:50 pmWhy are there so many “Beck” diaries on all the blogs? He says 25 crazy things a minute every day. Do we really need him to be taking up space on our discussion forums?
He’s nuts!! Lets just move on. Ignoring him won’t make him any more dangerous than he already is.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:51 pmSo he just reads bullshit written for him by writers correct. None of this bs is real right?
October 20th, 2009 at 7:54 pmBlacks vote progressive and they didn’t own slaves Beckerwood; you a$$h0le phucktard stupid bastard!!!
October 20th, 2009 at 7:56 pmDoes anyone think Becky is accountable for the shit he says? Does even Becky take himself seriously?
basically, Becky can just say progressives are the equivalent of whatever bad people he can think of, and that’s that. Doesn’t matter that the only equivalence is in Becky’s fevered mind, that both are “bad” only because Becky fears and/or hates them.
The dude is seriously losin’ it. He’s not even tethered to fantasyland anymore.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:56 pmProgressives were slave owners like conservatives conserve.
Progress with a capital P
Rhymes the t
Stands for tyrants
You look like you could use a trombone.
Can’t wait for him to read about how important hemp was to the founding fathers. Energy independance: hemp oil. That’s how to make the news, but it’s too progressive.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:59 pmBecks only reason for being on TV is to make money for himself and his Chinese Communist loving boss–Murdoch. You can buy any of his books, a dashboard Obama, subscribe to his magazine, mugs, T-shirts, and of course Glenn Beck duct tape. This guy is a pig. Just looking at him makes me want to scrub myself with steel wool.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:59 pmI see a big scandal involving Beck coming soon.
October 20th, 2009 at 7:59 pmThis is called projection (when it is not being described as idiocy).
October 20th, 2009 at 8:02 pm36,
Ralph, 70+ sponsors and counting.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:08 pmI am not sure if Beck knows the difference between reading words, and the more advanced skill of formulating reasonable thoughts and ideas from those words.
This commentary of Beck is his reflection. The adult deserves thoughtful commentary, reasonable and well tempered. I am progressive and a liberal. When you refer tyrant and slave to progressive, it’s unreasonable and lacking. The association Beck is attempting just doesn’t make any sense. The reflection I see is that of a struggling, desperate child.
I don’t think Glenn Beck will ever fill the shoes of William Buckley. Beck may have his dreams, but I’m afraid he doesn’t have the brains or temperament.
Glenn Beck is a smuck!
October 20th, 2009 at 8:11 pmBeck, just like every other ignorant GOPig, is trying to re-write history. And sadly, his loyal idiot followers will believe it and defend his lies.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:14 pmYou all do know that Genghis Khan was a Progressive, right?
October 20th, 2009 at 8:14 pmThere is only one kind of person even STUPIDER than Beck. The morons that listen to him and take him seriously
October 20th, 2009 at 8:17 pmtombaker says:
when i go down to the homeless shelter with food, i always administer a political affiliation test before passing anything out.
i tell the homeless righties (yes, there are) that they’re getting exactly what they deserve – nothing.
Good for you! The only thing the homeless right-wingers deserve is a bit of the “compassionate conservatism” they’re always talking about.
Let them dine on the fruits of their own ideals.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:21 pmWhat is he reading, The Patriot’s History of the United States?
October 20th, 2009 at 8:23 pmyou know the book that declares itself to be objective, but is more of the reactionary history-revisionist bullshit?
October 20th, 2009 at 8:23 pmCan he be more stupid?
October 20th, 2009 at 8:24 pmWhy is it that the far right has to make deities out of the founding fathers? Why is it not enough that they were human beings with all of the faults and frailties that go with being human?
October 20th, 2009 at 8:27 pmThese idiots have to put the word “slave” in it in some sort of way.
They can’t stand that an African-American is our President of the United States.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:28 pmNah, those folks joined the Republicans along with Strom Thurmond! LOL! ;)
October 20th, 2009 at 8:29 pmThis is repugs’ answer to “race relations.”
becky.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:30 pmConservatives are descendants of domestic & foreign terrorists.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:31 pmWho you’re “descended” from forces who you are? LOL! So much for the “Christian” principle of the sins of the father are not visited upon the son! What an anti-christian bigot! Then again, isn’t that the whole point of “racists” like Beck? They think black people are the “sinning” descendants of Abraham and bear that sin… These racists are a bunch of lunatics!
October 20th, 2009 at 8:31 pmReally, he’s grasping at straws to try to make some headlines. He is contemptible. No, correction. Beneath contempt.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:34 pmThe Founding Fathers as sockpuppets.
samueladams says:
I don’t like Progressives. They’re bad! They’re tyrants! They’re slave own—
wait. Uh, backspace!
Right wing pundits digging up leaders and reanimating them with bullshit. Charming.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:35 pmActually the American revolutionaries were progressive for their time since they pushed the idea that sovereignty resided with the people and not a monarch. Also, abolitionists and anti-slavery advocates would be considered progressive in the mid-19th century.
Just shows you how ignorant he is. He doesn’t even know the meaning of the words in the historical time periods in which he talks about.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:37 pmGlenn Beck is forming slaves using two national microphones a day. His worshipers don’t even know it either! Of course, some are seen walking the streets like robots chanting, “I. SUPPORT. THE. CEO’S., I. SUPPORT. WALL. STREET., I. HATE. MYSELF., I. WILL. KILL. MYSELF. IF. GLENN. BECK. TELLS. ME. TO.”.
Idiots.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:40 pmGame of Life says:
———————–
Can he be more stupid?
Yep. Count on it.
Don’t be surprised if tomorrow Beck manages to twist and spin to “prove” that the “Darkies were the slave-owners and the white, wealthy, conservative plantation owners were the real slaves.”
October 20th, 2009 at 8:42 pmHmm…. that might be wort tuning in for. You know he’s capable.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:44 pmKay@59, LOL! Yeah, the people who watch Beck and Faux News are sheeple. Slaves were force to submit. These sheeple are more than willing to be used as chattle. Either through ignorance or racism, they are willing to follow the GOP of a cliff.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:47 pmBecause the most vociferous teabaggers appeared to be Beck sycophants ignoring him doesn’t seem to be a wise decision. There are way too many low information, low intelligence inbred types in this country.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:48 pmLook no trolls here defending Beck.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:50 pmMore insanity from Beck. What’s next…?
October 20th, 2009 at 8:51 pmOlby Sucks is too frightened….
October 20th, 2009 at 8:51 pmP.D. @ #62, speaking of that. Check out this Twitter page of a person I’m following (hopefully you can see it…not sure if you have to be a member to):
http://twitter.com/SkunksINmyAttic
Love the background!
October 20th, 2009 at 8:52 pm… ‘progressives’ are descended from ‘tyrants’
and ‘slave owners.’
ha! when i first saw that i thought, ‘well i sure thought
MY DAD was a tyrant when I WAS 16, i remember that!’
guess i probably felt like a ’slave’ too, at times,
during those teenage petulant fits…
… oh… not the same…
hey – bleck made WORST PERSON … good one…
“… YOU’RE NUTS.”
October 20th, 2009 at 8:53 pmtelevision appears to be an endless circle jerk.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:55 pmBetween the screechmonkeys and the trolls. We are talking about a VERY big ball of stupid
October 20th, 2009 at 8:56 pmKay@67, That’s friggin brillant! LOL! What a visual! It perfectly describes the GOP today!
October 20th, 2009 at 8:56 pmI bet Olby Sucks is licking his tv. Countdown is on right now, isn’t it?
October 20th, 2009 at 8:57 pmSo. Does Becky want to reintroduce slavery? Or, does he still want to go back to the happier time” of the Carter Administration so that he can trade a Coke for “Mean” Joe’s jersey?
He finally manged to confuse me.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:59 pmP.D., is that the funniest background ever in the history of backgrounds? Love it! :-)
October 20th, 2009 at 9:02 pmBeck is really thinkiing about Samuel Adams beer because of his falling off his rehab. Now as for the Founding Fathers which some were of mixed relationships. All the Founding Fathers and everyone Americans who loves and honors our Country wouldn’t give Glenn Beck the time of day. I really feel sorry for Beck as should all of us who see a struggling drug addict and alcoholic. It’s a sickness and Fox News should really get Glenn Beck some medical attention and stop using him for the fool he is.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:03 pmKay@74, You got a good eye. I don’t know if i would have caught it. Kudos. I have to admit, after the polls and that visual, I finally have a smile on my face.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:04 pmBeck and Sam Adams….is this a beer thing ?
October 20th, 2009 at 9:04 pmOhh…glenn beck…this is the fear thing.
PROJECTION.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:07 pmRascalcat @ 50,
October 20th, 2009 at 9:08 pmI would add that the founding fathers would be horrified if the knew of the cult following these wing nuts are creating.
I think the progressives would be quite comfortable with Washington, Jefferson and Franklin.
Hell, if these conservatives were around at the time of the revolutionary war they would be Loyalists (King George’s boys).
I bet hes humping it like mini-me on a laser weapon
October 20th, 2009 at 9:09 pmP.D., we liberals don’t miss much. CASE IN POINT: Rush Limbaugh has been telling his cult members since the election last year that liberals don’t understand sarcasm, humor or irony. Guaranteed the trolls here on Think Progress are still looking at the background to that Twitter page and can’t figure it out! Seriously, at least one of their skulls is smoking through the ears right now because the mouse running on the wheel it their head has tipped the wheel over!
October 20th, 2009 at 9:10 pmHmm, let’s examine that analogy for a moment.
If we accept the fact that many of the Founding Fathers, including Thomas Jefferson, were “slave owners”, then one could make the case “Progressives are descended from slave owners”.
If you believe that “governments are tyrannical” and that the Founding Fathers were “the government”, then I suppose one could make a case “Progressives are descended from tyrants” as well… though I doubt Beck believes either to be the case.
Beck and his ilk are the people out there seeking to “rewrite the New Testament because it is too Liberal by today’s standards”. And these people are the authority on “love and charity”? Riiiight.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:14 pmKayInMaine @ 81,
October 20th, 2009 at 9:15 pmYou made me laugh. I loved that page on twitter. Hell, the only way to get through this mess is with a little humor.
Kay@81, That will be the Repugs downfall. They are only thinking 2010. Oh, I have no doubt they will make gains in the House and possibly the Senate. But the damage is done. The demographics are changing. With the Repugs distain for women, minorities and gays, they are running out of voters.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:17 pmsthoooothpid…
October 20th, 2009 at 9:17 pmI suspect Olby Sucks was banned today, just before iRi.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:18 pmThat’s good, Levi.
He’ll have more time with his KO on the teevee machine.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:20 pmAren’t they the one and the same?
October 20th, 2009 at 9:21 pmP.D., well….Pat Buchanan did say today that WHITES ARE LOSING THEIR COUNTRY:
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/10/buchanan_white_americans_are_losing_their_country.php?ref=mp
October 20th, 2009 at 9:21 pmRemember when George Bush said, “Am I’m the Decider!”? Not a peep from the right wing of America. And remember when he said things would be a heck of a lot easier if he was the Dictator? Again, not a peep! Not one sound from the right wing of America!
October 20th, 2009 at 9:24 pmBeck:
Read carefully, he honestly believes that slavery happened years later. Because of the Civil War he probably thinks that slavery started in the 19th century. OMG!
FOX has given a Jay-Walking-All-Star his own show.
HE IS AN IDIOT
October 20th, 2009 at 9:26 pmOctober 20th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Kay, think of the irony. WE took the country from the Native Americans. Remember the ‘Town Hall’ when that white broad yelled, “I want MY America back!” I had to laugh. What is her America exactly? I was always taught as a young girl that America was a ‘Melting Pot’. Did my teachers lie? I guess the white elite always thought the ‘Minorites’ would stay in the cities, and leave the Suburbs alone. LOL! Man, were they wrong.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:31 pmBeck says……sounds like a great drinking game. With all the stupid drivel that spouts from his pie hole it would be hours of fun.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:32 pmGlenn Beck believes he’s doing a great service for the republican party by TRYING TO DEFINE LIBERALS before we CONTINUE TO DEFINE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR WHAT IT IS. He’s diverting and hoping that he can label us as them. It won’t work of course! After 8 years of George Bush, the nation is completely distrustful of republicans on all fronts.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:33 pmyeah, creating the first democracy in centuries after years of tyrant, and monarchical rule was a progressive thing there Glenn Bent
October 20th, 2009 at 9:34 pmP.D., the right wing has been wrong for decades and they know it. America is a melting pot but in a positive way. We are a country that represents ALL. I mean, really, why would the French waste their time giving us a statue representing FREEDOM! LOL
October 20th, 2009 at 9:35 pmPat Buchanan is lowlife racist scum.
Apologies to scum…
October 20th, 2009 at 9:36 pmHe is, Zooey. He’s also a Nazi sympathizer. Evil to the core….oh but Mike & Joe just love the snot out of him every morning! Spit.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:37 pmKay@97, I agree. I live in a multicutural area. I LOVE my neighborhood. As for the Statue of Liberty, I think people like Buchanan want only the unwashed WHITE, the tired, the poor,….
October 20th, 2009 at 9:42 pmSeems to me Beck is still planting brush fires in people’s minds.
Samuel Adams had this to say, “It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.”
October 20th, 2009 at 9:44 pmKay,
In the article (ugh), Uncle Pat talks about white America watching as all kinds of dumb stuff is taken away — and I can’t be bothered to go back and look.
I think the key word is “watch.” All those dumb crackas sat back and WATCHED this country go to hell, and FINALLY they’ve plucked up the courage, in the face of a scary black president, to say, “I want my country back!”
Well, it’s too late, f uckwits! YOU lost it when YOU watched the Rs and religion mess up this place, and now WE will clean it up for you.
Stand back.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:45 pmSeems they are making Jesus a sockpuppet they can speak through
October 20th, 2009 at 9:45 pmBecky boy believes the revisionist American History books, used to teach our children, printed and edited in the great state of Texas. Thank the gods that they are working on the bible now–the crew that wrote that classic got it wrong too.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:46 pmSamuel Adams
This fits Beck to a tee.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:47 pmWasn’t it just the other day that Beck was praising the slave states because they allegedly opposed the 3/5 human definition of Africans, and wanted them declared full human beings ?
So which is it, were the slave owners the good guys or the bad guys ?
October 20th, 2009 at 9:49 pmSo it was those Progressives on Wall Street who wanted Abraham Lincoln to cave, fearing that war would bring about an economic recession? It was those Conservatives who wanted to bring down the ultra-rich slaveholding plantation class? Who knew?!
October 20th, 2009 at 9:50 pmA little OT, but in this clip, Beck claims that the progressives want to reform health care because we want the government to protect us from greedy doctors. Have I missed something? I thought we were trying to get protection from greedy insurance companies……
He’s soundng more libertarian by the day, at least as I understand that POV. He seems to be claiming that any government regulation is bad, and that the push to have regulations is because we (the liberals) don’t trust individuals to think or fend for ourselves. I don’t really think he understands – not to mention that I think he’s on the verge of a breakdown brought on by his paranoia.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:53 pmBeck really is a lunatic, I mean serious mental issues. I give him three years before he’s in jail for some sick GOP type crime (think David Vitter in diapers, but MUCH worse) or an asylum. Truly deranged.
In most countries, people like this get help. Here in the US (at least the crazy part) he gets a TV show.
October 20th, 2009 at 9:55 pmInfuriating, isn’t it Zooey? They make me literally sick to my stomach. They’re sad pathetic people! They don’t understand freedom, they don’t understand real patriotism, and they’re racists to their core. Yuck!
October 20th, 2009 at 10:00 pmKayInMaine @ 95
I think by definition Glenn Beck is the Republican Party.
Beck defines the Republicans to the letter. Beck is defining by example.
Beck is doing the Democrats a big favor.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:06 pmOT – i caught a bit of the comments yesterday (was it?) about
legalizing pot… just found this relevant article… cool…
Colorado newspaper hiring marijuana critic
By KRISTEN WYATT (AP) – 4 hours ago
DENVER — The store has a television lounge and a pool table, and snacks and acupuncture are free for customers who drop up to $130 an ounce on 16 varieties of marijuana. But a reviewer of the business warns the decor looks a little cliche, what with the Grateful Dead posters on the wall and the Mexican-blanket tablecloths.
The medical marijuana review business is booming as states like Colorado and California have seen an explosion in the number of pot shops.
A Denver alternative newspaper recently posted an ad for what some consider the sweetest job in journalism — a reviewer of the state’s marijuana dispensaries and their products.

October 20th, 2009 at 10:07 pmHey Shecky, you represent the Tories.
The Tory ethos can be summed up with the phrase God, King and Country. Tories advocate monarchism, are usually of a High Church Anglican or Recusant Catholic religious heritage and opposed to the radical liberalism of the Whig faction. Some call their stance counter-revolutionary, neo-feudal and medievalist.
So even back in the 17th century we had the conservo d|cks. Time to be rid of them.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:14 pmSam Adams FOUGHT the Tories.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:15 pmserious question:
just heard howard fineman discuss with keith the fact that
“the deficits” are worrying the people, why congress is askeerd…
so, if president obama had NOT put boosh’s tax cuts, wars
and medicareS on the books where debts belong, then the rubes
would be none the wiser, and all would be well…???
seriously… what do you think?
October 20th, 2009 at 10:17 pmack – medicareD
October 20th, 2009 at 10:18 pmProgressively backwards, those progressives.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:24 pmkaty,
October 20th, 2009 at 10:24 pmExactly. I keep telling people that $1.2 Trillion of this deficit is from the 6 years of unaccounted for Wars. $200 Billion per year X 6 years = $1.2 Trillion. Simple math. Bush is the screwup, not Obama.
How long before this guy realizes it’s not working…
…and decides to go out leaving a good-lookin’ corpse? So to speak.
He’s absolutely raving mad. This is more than show biz. He is one sick m**********r.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:29 pmI’m excited about the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s 20-million job creatin’ free enterprise campaign. This is the perfect setup to take all the credit for any future solid job growth in the Obami administration. It will ascend wall street deregulators to congress for a return to that glorious job growth of the Bush years.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:38 pmBush/Cheney 2012
October 20th, 2009 at 10:40 pmWhatever. Don’t talk to me. Fine.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:41 pmShayne@64, Im here to defend beck, Not only does beck speak the truth but he always has facts to back up his accusations.
October 20th, 2009 at 10:53 pmI am sick and tired of people putting beck down for pointing out the truth. Glenn Beck is god!!!!
Wow, I took a shower a few hours ago but I need another one.
I feel so freakin disgusting for mentioning beck in a positive way and I am just screwing around. what kind of a person could actually believe what beck says?

October 20th, 2009 at 11:09 pmkaty @ 115
It’s simple; the financial markets take their cues from the federal government. I believe you could call it lead by example. If the Obama administration is insisting stricter accountability from the financial markets, the government must have it own house in order. The effect is long term with the short term “beating” of larger than projected deficits.
The other up side to this move is planning. The more accurate the government numbers, the easier it is to plan and with more confidence. The word for the day is confidence in government accounting by the financial markets.
This was one of the first changes Clinton made when he took office. The government account rules were all synchronized. Nothing off books or adjust for a rosy projection
(remember Regan and Bush senior). The deficits (project and real) went up at first and Clinton took some political heat. Long term it served Clinton and the country well.
This simple, nuts and bolts issue has a profound impact. This was explained to me by my financial adviser who hated Clinton except for this one point.

They were aware of the fact that Bush ran deficits year after year after year for two terms, and also kept the cost of his bloody Asian adventurism off the books too, but never complained once to my knowledge. Why I don’t know.
It is my opinion that Bush did this on purpose, just to put the NEXT POTUS, who was undoubtedly going to be a Democrat, EXACTLY in the position Obama is… handcuffed by CRUSHING deficits, and damned if does, damned if he doesn’t.
I kinda think that particluar faction of the population you’re referring to, the Blithering, Delusional Windbag wing of the conservative/Republican faction, would go along with ANYTHING Bush proposed, how matter how ugly, and oppose anything a Democrat tries to do, no matter how much it might benefit the country, PERIOD.
I think they would keep marching along chanting the same nonsense they have been for years now, until the bottom falls out, then simply blame “teh libruls” reflexsively, like they currently do.
I think we’ve got a serious, serious problem on our hands here.

It must be the Vicks rub aroubd his eyes that affected his brain. Beck had Sam Adams beer on his mind when he made this idiotic comment. Now, now, Ape-man. Let’s not go slinging sinister around. That word derives from the Latin for ‘left’ and Beck would be right resentful of being called out on the left. He’s already fracking incoherent, as evidenced by the fact that he doesn’t understand that the progressive agenda has never been about anything other than reform and improvement.
It’s also evident that he’s generally ignorant of American history, but that’s OK. He’s making his pitch to people who are even more ignorant than he, for the most part, and he’s doing what Rupert and Roger want him to do for FNC (Flatulent Noise Channel); sell advertising time with jumped up hype and BS to eyeballs glued to the screen waiting for the next revelation.

I’m still stuck on the concept that somehow, it is acceptable for a sitting POTUS to purposefully screw the Nation just for political points.
You aren’t looking out for the welfare of the Nation when you do this.
You aren’t preparing the future generations’ successes to follow.

Sorry.
BECAUSE he’s been given air time to screed his poison and bigotry on air, going as far as claiming the POTUS is a Racist that hates “WHITE CULTURE”, Glen Beck IS someone to keep in his place.
p.s.
What is “WHITE CULTURE” anyway?
Now, when one ignores the (R)acist rants of Beck’s, or any one’s for that matter, it is a tacit permission that such ranting and raving are acceptable. And, when people suggest we leave (R)acists well enough alone, the only reason I can come up with is that on some level, you find his point of views somewhat agreeable to yours. Why else would one seek silence on the matter, if they were in disagreement?
Sure he’s a verifiable whack job.
HE NEEDS TREATMENT!
But, like ignoring the drug abuser, the wife beater, the homophobe or the racist, doing so not only says it is acceptable, but also expected behavior. Is that really you? Is Beck tolerable enough to just ignore him? After all, even YOU highlighted how he’s one hate filled rant after another. Yet suggest that we just, ignore it.

Ignore it = code for, GET OVER IT!

I don’t think it is so much that Beck is ignorant, but Beck, like many other right wingers, have revised American history to suit their political purposes. There are right wing economists that are trying rewrite the history of the Depression by claiming Roosevelt’s policies made it worse. Point taken, but I’d put it differently. I’m not sure Beck has the chops to be a revisionist, himself, but he’s bought into the neo-con/neo-fascist revisionist view and he’s incorporated that into his own predisposition, which is that of a paranoid conspiracy theorist. He’s fracking Orwellian in his tendency toward doublespeak and twisted semantics.

October 21st, 2009 at 7:09 amThis is absolutely ridiculous, for so many reasons. Talk about a total lack of understanding of American history. When he says “trying to read a different Founding Father…” he must be referring to the back of historical trading cards, or specially themed cereal boxes.
First of all, liberal is the OPPOSITE of tyrant. It is, by definition, the belief in equal rights and personal liberty for all. An idea, it may be worth mentioning, that Samuel Adams fought his entire adult life to defend.
And, although it is absolutely true that the Democratic party was predominantly the party of slaveholders, that was long before the Democratic party was the progressive party. If we’re going to do this on party lines, rather than idealogically, then we get Lincoln, a civil-rights-minded liberal who understood the importance of a strong federal government, and supported a progressive income tax.
Maybe skimming a book and coming to your own conclusions about its contents, and then broadcasting those terribly misinformed opinions about its message is not such a great idea after all…

Yeah, he reads, and everything he reads he vomits onto the airwaves as if it’s revealed from god. His listeners must be the most gullible; they are quick to believe without question facts such as ADAM and EVE and refute theories such as evolution. Revising history is ignorant, you concern troll hick. October 21st, 2009 at 8:40 am
You’re absolutely wrong, Dr.H.Matt. Revising history to conform to their own biases and preconceptions is the first order of business of EVERY authoritarian and totalitarian movement; Beck happens to represent such a movement. He’s the public face of a new American Fascism; not the only public face, but one of the more prominent ones, along with Fatty Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, and a few other media types.
Go take a look at what the totalitarian and authoritarian movements of the 20th Century did with history; en route to seizing power, they rewrote what they wanted to be taught as the truth and twisted history beyond understanding in some cases. It’s an integral part of a propaganda war.
Beck and the others mentioned may or may not be fully witting players in this propaganda war, and they may or may not fully believe in the view they present, but they fully and cynically expect to profit by selling it to the ‘torch and pitchfork’ brigades.

—-
Beck’s ’slippery slope’ style argument re: personal liberties is the same as that used by slaveowners in the run up to the Civil War. ‘This tyrannical federal government wants to control every aspect of your life; they want to regulate how you can beat your slaves, in what states you can own them, and outlaw the practice of hanging them from trees for misbehavior! Their ultimate goal is to strip you of your God given right to own and sell people entirely!’

Just did. What was your point?
October 21st, 2009 at 4:40 pmWhy is Beck being the proverbial pot, and calling the kettle black?
Why do conservatives have no rational arguments of their own?
Think about it…
Most any argument put forward by a conservative against a liberal is simply a regurgitation of the aforementioned liberal’s argument.
It’s like a little child imitating the voice of a chiding adult, or, upon being told that they’re acting immature, all they can offer in return is, “No, YOU’RE immature!”
They have no argument basis, except to repeat the insults they themselves received in the first place.
October 21st, 2009 at 7:51 pmThis is a common technique used by fascist propagandists. First they are very general when referring to liberals wanting control. They don’t specify what control. Secondly, the example they are usually referring is either corporate regulation or taxes on the top 2% income earners. Instead of specifying this, they pretend that progressives want to regulate regular Americans like fascists don’t want them to regulate greedy bankers, for example.
When we have had a clear example of the damage that deregulation has done to our economy because greedy bankers cannot be trusted. Beck would like his lemmings to think that Grandma needs to be prevented from formulating a derivative to screw millions out of their 401K stock market gambling scams.
Considering that progressives are responsible for the minimum wage, the 40 hour work week and overtime pay, I think Republican war against unionization more closely resembles the slaveowners when our nation was that ridicuously primitive and backward.
October 21st, 2009 at 8:19 pmIf progressives were “tyrants” or “slave owners”, does that mean that the abolitionists were tyrannical, slave-owning maniacs? I guess it does mean that, according to the twisted mind of Beck. But seriously, who still watches his show now? Absolute morons, I guess.
October 21st, 2009 at 10:25 pmoops, I think I just answered my own question…
