Bachmann Says Dole And Frist Represent A ‘Non-Pro-Freedom Agenda’ Because They Want Health Reform

Today on her radio program, Laura Ingraham interviewed guest Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and asked her about the ideological direction of the Republican Party. The pair discussed recent statements made by retired GOP Senate Majority Leaders Bill Frist (TN) and Bob Dole (KS) in support of some type of comprehensive health reform.

Dole has called for Republicans to become engaged in the process, stating “we’ve got to do something” to solve the current crisis. Frist has endorsed the Senate Finance health reform bill, and has called out “people on the extreme” in his own party for falsely labeling President Obama’s health reform as “socialized medicine.” Clearly incensed by these comments, Ingraham and Bachmann traded barbs trashing the former Republican leaders for daring to veer away from a “pro-freedom agenda”:

INGRAHAM: Of course. God bless Bob Dole he just came on our show, I have great respect for the man. And also for Frist. But Frist presided over a pretty disastrous situation in the Senate.

BACHMANN: They lost.

INGRAHAM: They lost. And Bob Dole lost how many times on a national level? I guess I’ve lost count. [...] That Republican ideology and that Republican outlook has been a losing outlook. That’s why President Obama wants more of us to be like them.

BACHMANN: Because we want a pro-freedom agenda. And he’s trying to throw people around who he believes will increase a non-pro-freedom agenda.

Listen here:

Bachmann and Ingraham’s vitriol wasn’t only reserved for Republicans who dared to express a willingness to support reform. Asked if the New York Times’ recent profile of her has generated a lot of “hate mail,” Bachmann replied that although she does receive a lot of mail, it is “because Nancy Pelosi has made me a top target.” Ingraham then began mocking Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) — the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives and the highest-ranking female politician in American history — by making hissing and cat noises, then shrieking, “she doesn’t like powerful women.”

  10. pags2 says:

Bachmann and Ingraham are bashing Dole and Frist now. But I wonder what they will say when the Republicans get trounced in the next elections. The Republicans are going further to the right and that is going to scare independents but that point is lost on these radical right. They are going to have to learn a lesson the hard way.

  11. P.D. says:

Zooey@8, Yeah really. I mean the Repugs like thier women attractive, dim-witted and in the kitchen. I don’t know about Ingraham, is she married? She’s the kind of harpie who would drive men away.

As a rule of thumb, any large organization like a corporation or the government, given the choice between the logical/reasonable solution or the dumb one, they always choose the dumb one.

  18. Trittydi says:

One of the most evident things about Bachmann is that she could be the poster child for the unhinged right.

Let her go. Let the dogs eat! The more divisive the GOP becomes and the more they eat their own, the sooner the party will be no more.

Because we want a pro-freedom agenda. And he’s trying to throw people around who he believes will increase a non-pro-freedom agenda.

Her speech patterns are unnaturally relaxed for an adult, even more so for a legislator who must win elections to keep the job. Come on—”throw people around”? “Increase” an agenda? People are dying without health insurance and this slack-jawed moron is nattering on about a “pro-freedom agenda” vs. a “non-pro-freedom agenda”.

She’s not some sot cornering an unwitting out-of-towner at a bar and droning on through a haze of alcohol and valium, but she sure sounds it.

  23. NinerFan says:

Laura Ingraham, upon hearing the name Nancy Pelosi, making animal noises and “then shrieking, “she doesn’t like powerful women.” ”

That’s rich. But the best Ingraham story is in “Blinded by the Right” by David Brock when he recounts how she got falling-down drunk and was crawling across the floor of a nightclub trying to get him to go to bed with her after she found out he was gay. She’s one of the people who led Brock to believe he was surrounded by stark raving mad maniacs instead of serious political journalists.

Ummmm , freakish ladies ; Obama garnered nearly SEVENTY MILLION VOTES.

Bachmann would equal that number if she won her ridiculously ignorant conservative district almost FOUR HUNDRED terms.

Ingraham would have that many listeners if her show was played for 3 ………………thousand millenia…..

    Go back to school Shelly.

  41. Mr. Evil says:

Michele Bachmann’s idea of a “pro-freedom agenda” is for corporations to have as much “freedom” as possible to steal from Americans, to corrupt politicians (especially her), to do away with as many American jobs as they see fit and to destroy anything and everything that is akin to actual freedom.

  42. MapleStreet says:

    Ingraham doesn’t like powerful women.

  45. flight says:

Bachmann giving Bob Dole a lecture concerning pro freedom and politics. The woman is ridiculous. I was never a fan of Dole but I do have more respect for the man than she apparently does.

Bachmann and Ingraham were absolute fools. The exchange had nothing redeeming to walk away with. You just shake your head.
What in the hell is the Republican Party thinking.

I am beginning to realize how desperate the Republican Party has grown. If this is the future face of the Republican Party, they are in trouble!

More of ‘new’ GnOP’s insult on the collective intelligence of the country. No fan of Dole but I at least have a little respect for him- but he represents the ‘old’ GOP who lost.

The new GOP- Palin and Bachman are undoubtedly there because of their not too unpleasant looks. Steele because the other side has a black guy. I haven’t heard anything of substance from any ‘new’ GOP member and I doubt I ever will.

  49. flight says:

I think Bachmann and Ingraham are jealous of Pelosi. Eat your hearts out ladies, or maybe wenches, Republican wenches..

These two are freaky, it’s Halloween time. These two need no costumes.

  50. Mathazar says:

Bob Dole is one of the last true conservative statesman, alwys willing to bargain and compromise, never playing dirty.

That Bachmann and Ingraham would trash him says more about them and the future of the GOP.

I for one am happy that the new republicans are going to the crazy right.
Back in the day we on the left had to deal with Goldwater republicans, real consertives that had a point of veiw and made sence.
Lately the batcrap crazy wingnuts are showing their true colors. They have caused the fall of republican moderates which is only good for the Dems.
As a libral, I respected republicans like Lincoln Chaffee but now they are gone. And soon will Olympia Snow be gone.
    It’s just getting to easy.
Keep going wingnuts..you are our best political pawns.

  54. Johnny Walker says:

  55. P.D. says:

Let’s face it. The GOP is literally dying. The election in New York is a fasinating example. The GOP is purging ALL the Moderates. The are basically eating their own. When your Party’s numbers are in the tank, you LOOK for solutions. People like Ingraham and Bachman are doing a disservice to their Moderate brethren. I live in the North East. The GOP brand is so bad, people won’t admit to being Republicans. They mays get some gains in 2010, but with the changing demographics, and the surge of the Latino population, they GOP will be doomed.

How much freedom do you have when you’re desperately ill and you can’t relax because you’re bargaining with your insurance company for life-saving treatment.

How free is the husband who has to join the military to ensure cancer treatment for his wife?

Shut up Shelly. We almost managed to make it an entire week without your babbling nonsense reminding the fine people of this country that my beloved Minnesota just may have the craziest Congressperson. But the main objection is that you are unqualified to comment on freedom.

As a slave to an extremist delusion you can’t understand the basic concept of freedom. Your ignorance of what the Founding Fathers really stood for, plain for all to see, and bizarre insistence that they were designing a Christian theocratic state demonstrates a profound ignorance of the specific freedoms they enumerated.

Then there’s your, equally bizarre, statements indicating you Believe the Rapture is imminent. I don’t expect such a moron to understand why such a Belief makes one unqualified to discuss the future. Smart people will understand that one who doesn’t Believe in the future is, by definition, utterly incapable of making informed decisions.

Booger-eating and trolling are two prime indicators of Darwin’s First Corollary Theorem of Retro-lution. It states that “given low-IQ, confinement in an echo chamber and lack of intellectual stimulation, certain members of a species will regress to a lower life form”.

If he were alive today, Darwin would readily recognize the entire republican party as retro-lutionary.

    Kitty says:

How much freedom do you have when you have to stay in a job you hate because you need health insurance?

How free are you when astronomical medical costs eat up your entire life savings?

How much freedom comes with having your home foreclosed on?

How much freedom do you have when you’re desperately ill and you can’t relax because you’re bargaining with your insurance company for life-saving treatment.

How free is the husband who has to join the military to ensure cancer treatment for his wife?

Bachmann and her ilk need to STFU.

  128. flight says:

    Game of Life @ 125,
The reason the Republicans don’t have to take ownership of the last 8 years is because they are the anointed ones from “C” street. They have exorcised all the evildoers (socialists) from the Party and are now pure to lead the country to its rightful place as the world dominator.

Since Obama is one of the evildoer socialists, he can be blamed.

The Republicans are once again purified to govern the country, their god said so

She’s one of the people who led Brock to believe he was surrounded by stark raving mad maniacs instead of serious political journalists.

Here’s a prime example of WTF is wrong with insurance companies. Can’t understand for the life of me how anyone can “champion” them or not want to see drastic changes if not eliminating them completely thru a single payer system.

    I’ll try to be brief.

I pay almost $8 per working hour for insurance thru a trade union and STILL have a $1200 family deductible. Should be cadillac insurance right?

Last year I had to jump thru insurance hoops to get a MRI on my lower back. It showed some disc bulges but my neurologist doesn’t want to operate yet as the problem is only occasionally painful and the numbness in my leg is bothersome but not debilitating. OK…but when its ‘out’ it’s excruciating. Almost two weeks ago my back went out and I called the doc for advice because an ER visit would have been expensive (deductible not reached) and they don’t do anything but hand out pain meds. He set me up with a pain specialist to get a cortisone shot and nerve block the next day. I was told I needed a driver so my wife took the day off to take me in.

As I was being prepped for the shots a nurse came in and pulled the doc and RN out of the room. When they returned they told me sorry…no shots today because the insurance company wanted to review the situation before approving the shots. The doc was almost as pissed as I was. He said; “I’m sick and tired of insurance companies dictating the care I can give my patients”.

I called the insurance company today to find out WTF was going on as nearly 2 week have gone by. They said they haven’t finished reviewing yet but they didn’t feel it was that urgent. They also informed me that those shots are expensive- nearly $1000.

Again WTF? I have $600 left on my deductible and I pay nearly $1300 per month for insurance. They would have only been out $400 plus the office visit!

SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE WITH THESE CRIMINALS!
