Inhofe’s climate change-denying Copenhagen ‘truth squad’ expands to a ‘truth squad of three.’

Last month, Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) announced that he would travel to Copenhagen in December to act as a climate skeptic “truth squad” during international climate change treaty negotiations. “I think somebody has to be there — a one-man truth squad,” Inhofe said on CSPAN. Today, on Bill Bennett’s radio show, Inhofe revealed that his delegation has expanded to “a truth squad of three”:

BENNETT: And John Barrasso’s going with you, right? John Barrasso?

INHOFE: Yeah, Barrasso and there’s another secret person going with me. We’re going to have a team of three, a truth squad of three.

Listen here:

When Inhofe first announced his plans for a “truth squad,” TPM’s Eric Kleefeld remarked, “It’s nice to see how seriously foreign policy is taken these days — when a member of the political minority will send his own delegation to an international conference, in order to undermine the government and tell other countries that they can’t work with the United States.” Now it’s at least two members of the political minority.

  2. Rich H says:

Isn’t this about a billion times more wasteful than Obama trying to gain the olympics for Chicago?

Of course that’s just my opinion.

  3. Greg Brady says:

Remember when Bill Bennett use to sell ethics? Now it’s this. Next week it’ll be a low-carb diet plan. He’s such a putz.

  4. Purple State says:

Um…three is still a mighty small number.

  5. Xisithrus says:

I have a feeling Inhofe and crew will be seen touring the countryside.

  6. Hoodathunk says:

Sounds almost like a low budget remake of the Magnificent Seven with Inhofe playing the Eli Wallach role.

Unless your talking about a triumvirate which they ain’t.

Ten to One Inhofe takes his golf clubs.

    Hey Oklahoma!!

You are far, far away from being OK.

  10. John Barringer says:

When does what DeMint did in Honduras and what Inhofe proposes to do in Copenhagen rise to the level of treason? It isn’t far removed from what candidate Nixon’s people did during the Vietnam peace talks or what candidate Reagan’s people did during the Iran hostage crisis?

It should be noted that the four people mentioned here are or were all Republicans. Only Republicans are completely willing to inflict damage on their country for political and personal gain.

On their return, their passports should be seized, and they should be jailed for sedition.

And sent to Baghram, in Afghanistan. Send their phuqing families too.

Ya ever been in northern europe–specifically Copenhagen–in the winter? They ski on the links…

  13. majii says:

Good. Let them go and see how much weight their words will carry. We all know how the rest of the world feels about President Obama. Who do they think the world will believe? Who do they think has the power to negotiate and sign the treaty?

Good luck with that, Imhofe and company.

The surprise guest is probably Dick Cheney. LOL

  14. WillWrite4Food says:

Well, Inhofe is clearly referring to the voices in his head as a person; at least they don’t need a passport!

  15. RUCerious says:

Even better. Make them use white balls and replace their ice divots.

  16. lcdrrek says:

After Copenhagen they are going to the Vatican to get on board the Earth is Flat bandwagon.

  17. tombaker says:

Even though it reflects poorly on us all,

I don’t mind him going to Europe to get laughed at.

Fact is, it doesn’t happen to him often enough here, or he’d have shut his fool mouth already.

Tokin, apparently taking your clubs to Denmark in December is not has wacky an idea as going there to deny climate change!

  19. Chyron HR says:

Aww, looks like poor little Inhofe is silently rating everyone down, too. You bring that truth, Jimmy-boy!

  20. pags2 says:

Kleefeld is correct in his statement that this truth squad is undermining the President who is the only person charged with conducting foreign policy under the Constitution. I would hope that the Dems seriously consider a rebuke or censure of these Republicans. It is time for the Dems to say enough is enough.

is there no legal remedy for that???

    really!!!

  22. whirlaway says:

So, In-half, Bare-asso, and a “secret” third performer?! Sounds like a nice threesome happening in Copenhagen soon!

  23. katy says:

    i mean – really???!!!

  24. pete says:

Not content with his reputation in this country, Senator Jimmy is going to demonstrate the worst brand of American stupidity to the whole world.

If I may plead with the world, please, remember that Jimmy is quite probably the stupidest member of the U.S. Senate and is widely regarded as an imbecile. He represents the worst of us, the stupidest fifth of the electorate. I would appreciate it if he is greeted with the scorn and derision he deserves. Please don’t hold back on the account of we thinking citizens of this country.

  25. buckeye_progressive says:

Can you imagine the outrage if a democratic member of congress, of the Senate no less, were to attend an international conference to undermine Bush during his presidency? I think Obama’s course is correct in this case though. By saying nothing an allowing these stories to filter through the media, the American people can see just all the anger and disrespect for the President themselves, and the Republicans are more than happy to tell them.

  26. katy says:

they are still making a big deal, on the AP radio news, out of “the biggest drop off in years” (of climate change believers)…

pretty soon the folks’ll think it’s ok to ignore that problem too…

  27. pete says:

Oops! I forgot to add that Jimmy is a member of a group who Believes the Rapture is imminent. Since he doesn’t Believe there is a future? His contributions to future plans may be discarded.

  28. John Barringer says:

    tokin librul says:

On their return, their passports should be seized, and they should be jailed for sedition.

Sedition, the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power, is what these people do every day. What Inhofe and DeMint are engaging in is appealing to foreign powers, either individually or collectively, to take actions counter to US policy and inimical to US interests. It may not actually rise to the level of treason but it’s certainly on the way there.

  29. MapleStreet says:

oh Mr. Inhofe, its been a while since I was in the army. How many people does a squad usually consist of ? Do you even have enough folks for a patrol ?

  30. Badmoodman says:

Whatever happened to the idea that politics ends at the water’s edge? Oh, that’s right. The rules of decorum only apply to Democrats.

  32. SKdeA says:

Are they going to wear cool uniforms with capes? And have a secret handshake? Maybe decoder rings?

    It’s about that mature.

  33. chrislvb says:

I only have one question for these fiscal conservatives d-bags. Are my tax dollars being spent to cover their trip to undermine the government of the United States of America?

Oops! I forgot to add that Jimmy is a member of a group who Believes the Rapture is imminent.

I hope, for the sake of the country, the Rapture comes real soon. Born again Christians are a bigger pain in the a$$ the second time around.

  35. eyesopen says:

I believe it was in 1970’s that the Republican party formed a “truth squad” including Gov. James Thompson of Illinois, and detailed them to attend that year’s Democratic National Convention. Before they embarked on their mission, some wag observed that, “…Jim Thompson wouldn’t know the truth if Diogenes was standing next to him with a floodlight!” (Diogenes of Sinope being the Greek philosopher who wandered the streets with a lighted lamp, looking for an honest man.)

I’ve always been surprised that the quotation lost its currency, since it is universally applicable to every “truth squad” that has made an appearance since.

  36. evangenital says:

I hope that Inhofe and the other kooks make total fools of themselves in front of intelligent people from all over the world.

It would be an utterly priceless moment.

  37. Bad Eye says:

Another “secret” person? Oh how funny. Hey James, I double-dog-dare you to tell me!!

Isn’t Inhofe the guy who once said he had information on where all of the missing WMDs were in Iraq, but wasn’t going to tell anyone?

  38. fergus says:

Wouldn’t it be interesting if the Danish government refused entry to this little band of fools– maybe, on the grounds of mental deficiency. Or, perhaps, on the grounds that they are political agitators, or, subversive undesirables. Wouldn’t that be delicious irony?

  39. Ozonator says:

Finally, extremist Republicans and Christians have a Hollywood answer to the Jamaican Bobsled Team. With Jimbo in Stockholm, somebody needs to tell the Africans that it is ok for them to come out and see his global warming gifts.
