Hatch bucks Cheney: ‘I would never want to call my president dithering.’
Despite his own failures in Afghanistan (namely turning valuable resources away from the war and invading Iraq), former Vice President Dick Cheney attacked President Obama this week, saying he is “afraid to make a decision” on the war in Afghanistan and that he’s “dithering.” Today on CNN, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) disagreed with Cheney’s assessment. “Well, I would never want to call my president ‘dithering,’” Hatch said, adding, “And I know it’s a tough position that he’s in.” Later, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) was far more blunt in criticizing Cheney’s remarks:
BROWN: Look, to listen to Dick Cheney who was the mastermind of the most failed decade of foreign policy that this country has had, at least in my political lifetime, perhaps my whole lifetime, perhaps my parents’ lifetime too. I mean to listen to him when he talked about dithering when their mistake was to attack Iraq and lose sight of Afghanistan as President Abdullah, sorry as Dr. Abdullah, presidential candidate Abdullah said that eight years of failure of Karzai implicitly is also eight years of failure of dithering by that administration, so just take Dick Cheney’s advice off the table.

Every time you see Liz Cheney on the TV machine defending her father’s actions/inactions, remember that she was Dick Cheney’s fifth deferment. He used up his first four as a student to get out of going to Vietnam. Then he learned that expectant fathers could get a deferment, and that’s when he implanted Lynne with his seed and Liz hatched nine months later. (I’m not entirely certain how his species does it.)

I think Cheney just scares everyone so they won’t challenge him in person. No one is quite sure he won’t leap across the desk and sink those sharp little teeth into their necks, or pull out a shotgun and blast them in the face.
Since when does the media ask ex-vice presidents to comment on the actions of the current president? Can you imagine Walter Cronkite interviewing Dick Nixon in 1962? “Mr. Vice President, how do you think this rich little snot is handling the Soviets? Shouldn’t he just nuke Havana?”

The antonym to dithering in Darth’s dictionary is “decisiveness” which is defined as “shoot, ready, aim”. Cheney was one decisive dude . . . both in quail-hunting and vice-presidenting. Now, he’s doing the same thing on the rubber-chicken circuit.

Two reasons, I think.
1. It’s risky to prosecute while we still have troops in the field. Partly because of the risk of backlash and partly because he would level similar counter-charges against the Obama Administration for continuing his policies.
2. The DOJ, federal courts, federal prosecutors offices, and countless other appointed positions are held by neocons who remain loyal to the cause.

Modest disagreement, here. I liked what Grayson had to say, and some of the schtik stopped Bill Maher cold. Bill’s always playing his interviewees and panel as straight men, so it was interesting watching someone turn the tables on him. The panel managed to do it a couple of times too, as did Gary Shandling.
Bill needs to get away from the preachy business too; he sometimes takes some of his stuff too seriously. While some of what he says, for instance, about ‘what we eat’ and it’s effects on health are interesting, he gets way over the top at times. Just sayin’
