The Kansas City Star is reporting that eBay has decided to prevent a planned online auction organized to support the defense fund of Scott Roeder, the accused murder of Dr. George Tiller. EBay said that the auction violated its policy against “offensive material” and would not be allowed. EBay made its announcement on the same day the family of Dr. George Tiller issued a personal appeal to the company to intervene and prevent the scheduled auction:
“These materials contain hate messages, glorify violence against abortion doctors who provide constitutionally protected medical services, and instruct on means of violence, including bombing, of abortion clinics,” said Lee Thompson, an attorney for the Tiller family, in a letter sent to eBay on Tuesday and approved by Tiller’s widow, Jeanne Tiller. “We urge you to deny access to the resources of eBay for this reprehensible and vile ‘auction.’”
The decision by eBay followed a week of increasing national criticism. Anti-choice activists organized the auction to help fund Roeder’s defense, and items being donated included “an Army of God manual, a prison cookbook compiled by a woman doing time for abortion clinic bombings and arsons, and several autographed drawings submitted by Roeder.”
Some of these “right-to-lifers” are amazingly violent, murderous people.
Why won’t the churches forthrightly and openly condemn these crazies?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:10 pmAfter he’s found guilty and sentenced to death, I’ll bid on a front row seat to his state sanctioned execution.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:12 pmFan-damn-tastic!
Up yours, you bloodthirsty murderous anti-choice f ucktards!
October 28th, 2009 at 1:12 pmThere’s no difference between these radical “right-to-lifers” and the jihadists in the Middle East. Both mis-using religion as a tool of hate and violence.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:13 pmDr. Hussein Matt says:
After he’s found guilty and sentenced to death, I’ll bid on a front row seat to his state sanctioned execution.
Fcuk that. The execution should be on national television so Roeder is made an example of.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:13 pmRoeder murdered a man in CHURCH.
How convenient that his supporters, in their Randall Terry-induced psychosis, forget that fact.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:15 pmGood on ebay for having ethics.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:15 pmShould be repeated loudly and often. Well said, Dave N.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:17 pmKudos E-Bay.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:17 pmI think Ebay should have the auction, and then turn over the names of everyone who donates to the FBI, so the sick fu(ks can be investigated.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:17 pmDavid Neiwert wrote about this yesterday over at C&L. Link includes discussion between Rachel Maddow and Dr. Tiller’s Attorney.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:18 pmRoeder should not be put to death. That would only make him a martyr to his sick cause.
He should rot in the general population of the worst prison in the country for every moment of the rest of his sorry-assed life.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:19 pmI so agree with that. These people are so obsessed, they are insane. When I heard the news of Tiller’s murder, I looked up at the sky and lamented: “Why can’t these people stop obsessing and live their lives?!”
October 28th, 2009 at 1:19 pmLink to C&L. Sorry about that.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:19 pmDr. Matt,
October 28th, 2009 at 1:20 pmThis coming from someone who opposes the death penalty…
I’LL BE RIGHT THERE WITH YA!
How is a defense fund going to help a guy who was seen by many people killing someone?
DO the people that would send money to such a thing have a single functioning brain cell?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:20 pmBRAVO EBAY! BRAVO! I saw this on Rachel Maddow’s show on Monday night. I’m glad I watch Rachel because I don’t believe I’d heard this anywhere else. The media is useless!
October 28th, 2009 at 1:20 pmThe wingnuts are running out of things to sell. There have been reports in the last couple of years of people taking out mortgages on their homes, to donate the money to various right wing extremist causes. Now we see they are pawning off their personal possessions in an online garage sale. Keep going nutjobs…pretty soon they will be selling seeds door to door.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:21 pmThe KC Star article is incredible. Seeing nutbags simultaneously call the murder of an unarmed man in a church “justifiable homicide” while claiming that a private corporation’s refusal to participate in their hatemongering violates their first amendment rights provides a frightening look at how much like the Taliban this violent mob is. Good luck finding a webmaster capable of setting up an auction site you bloodthirsty jihadists.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:21 pmFox News to come to the defense of Scott Roeder by condemning EBAY in 3… 2… 1…

“Some of these “right-to-lifers” are amazingly violent, murderous people.
Why won’t the churches forthrightly and openly condemn these crazies?”
Because the churches have made good use of “amazingly violent, murderous people”, for several thousand years?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:23 pmLeftisRight says:
Good on ebay for having ethics.
Just wait for these creeps to start screaming about their free speech rights being violated. I’m sorry, but advocating violence SHOULD NOT be a protected free speech right.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:23 pmA single cell? You’re assuming they even had a brain to begin with. They get their marching orders from the Bible (and Randall Terry). No brain necessary.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:23 pmPoint taken, though there is one difference: the jihadists are courageous.
A pro-lifer, by contrast, will get drunk as a skunk, goad himself inot action, shoot a bunch of innocent people, then scuttle off to wait for the cops to pick him up.
Right-wingers are cowards–degenerate white males, by and large. You’ll never see one of these weenies blow himself up.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:24 pmThank goodness. What would be next? An online auction to support political assassins?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:25 pmUh oh. Why the f is Grayson apologising?
Because he wants to?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:25 pm… items being donated included “an Army of God manual, a prison cookbook compiled by a woman doing time for abortion clinic bombings and arsons…
“[P]rison cookbook?!?!?” Like recipes for bathtub gin and homebrew crystal meth?
Cheers,
October 28th, 2009 at 1:25 pm..a prison cookbook compiled by a woman doing time for abortion clinic bombings and arsons..
How many ways can you cook a rat, you psychopathic bigot?
Enjoy!
October 28th, 2009 at 1:26 pmAgreed, Zooey. Lock him up and throw away the key by locking it up and throwing away THAT key. This man should never see the light of day again.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:28 pmA single cell? You’re assuming they even had a brain to begin with
I know I shouldnt assume. =(
October 28th, 2009 at 1:29 pm#7 Zooey says:
It wasn’t a real church. One of those fake, cult-type things … or even an actual Satanic coven. If they float, burn ‘em.
Cheers,
October 28th, 2009 at 1:29 pmI wonder how many children Roeder traumatized for life by killing a man in cold blood in front of them.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:31 pmAre you saying Graysons comments were wrong?
Wrong? What does his apologizing have to do with what I think?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:33 pmI abhor capital punishment. It would much more fitting a “pious, Christian man” like Roeder to be repeatedly gang raped every day for the rest of his life.
But, if you’re going to televise it…I may as well tune in. You know, unless it pre-empts House (let’s face it. if any network would broadcast a live execution, it would be Fox)
October 28th, 2009 at 1:34 pmThey don’t have bathtubs, they use the TOILET. Even better, yum.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:37 pmAmerican Taliban
October 28th, 2009 at 1:37 pmIf Grayson felt an apology was fitting then he is surely free to make one.
Carry on.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:38 pmGrayson called a lobbyist a whore. Unfortunately she was a woman so he’s apologizing. I don’t think he should have because they’re all whores.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:39 pmI wonder what backup’s opposing view is going to be.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:39 pmWell I think you’re wrong for OT SPAMMING. Are you going to apologize?

Could you _please_ explain what Alan Grayson has to do with a domestic terrorist and the misguided morons that support him?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:42 pmThanks EnnuiDivine. That description of “vomit flavored” made my day. :(
October 28th, 2009 at 1:44 pmT.H.E.Cat, he can’t because he’s OneFryShort of an order.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:45 pmTruly sick, twisted and violent people.
Good for ebay for refusing.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:46 pmChanging names already shorty?
October 28th, 2009 at 1:46 pm#13 Zooey says:
Typo there. That should be “sore”, I suspect.
Cheers,
October 28th, 2009 at 1:47 pmReally? Now try to imagine what would happen if a progressive had shot one of your Christofascist preachers. Or try to imagine what would have happened if an antiwar activist had brought a loaded weapon to a rally with Bush or Cheney.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:49 pmGood for E-Bay. One company who is willing to stand by their TOS.
Really, if anyone actually read those when they signed up for a large site like that (or Twitter, as another example), most of these extremists wouldn’t even think of joining. Speech inciting hate and violence, either as a platform or towards another person, is always outlined as being a sure way to get your account revoked.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:49 pmAnd props to the Tiller family for speaking out against these terrorists.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:50 pmMaybe Billdo will hook up with Glenda to start a “5/31″ movement. They can whip up some more violence and collect defense fund donations while celebrating the anniversary of Dr. Tiller’s murder with memorial t-shirts, mugs, lapel pins and posters. Maybe they can do an art segment on Roeder’s sketches and get Dooshy to try out some of those recipes on “FUX and Friends”.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:51 pmThis is not a first for ebay, that’s their policy. I have a friend who was kidnapped and raped. When someone tried to auction one of the rapist’s paintings on ebay, her friends all sent emails and the auction was taken now. Mind you, this guy was convicted and in prison, plus this was ebay.uk.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:52 pmKilling a man while he’s attending Church.
Now that’s unChristian.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:53 pmK Street Whore says:

Ask them real nicely, and I’m sure Fox can see that’s done.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:56 pmOne Fry Short is OFF TOPIC.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:56 pmI’d like to know how many anti-abortion fanatics have gone to their local Planned Parenthood and signed up to adopt the baby of the next woman walking in to have an abortion. If they aren’t willing to do that, then they aren’t really THAT against abortion.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:57 pmGood. Roeder is a murdering terrorist coward who shot a man in cold blood in a house of God. He should rot in the same prisons as the Islamic terrorists that Clinton put away. This has never been about sanctity of life and the unborn. It’s about hating, controlling and oppressing women.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:04 pmAccording to Tillers lawyer, any monies gotten will go to a victims fund in the state of Kansas. This pig will never see any of it for his legal fee’s.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:05 pmThat’s a little out of their area of expertise. they did try it with a Democrat who beat a Republican incumbent but they generally specialize in labeling scandal-ridden Republicans as Democrats. (See Mark Foley, Mark Sanford, et al.)
October 28th, 2009 at 2:06 pmIn all likelihood, he will. Eric Rudolph, convicted of (among other things) bombing an abortion clinic wound up in ADX Florence; Roeder may as well.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:06 pm“Why won’t the churches forthrightly and openly condemn these crazies?”
What Church hasn’t?
October 28th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
October 28th, 2009 at 2:17 pmALL OF THEM.
And for those who have not seen this latest news, another Beck disciple turned murderer:
October 28th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
In this situation, Faux and AM hate radio would be defending Grayson (R) and would claim the left are communist socialist Nazis who are trying to silent dissent.

Hey, Roeder is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative. I’ll bet he doesn’t believe in coddling criminals, especially murderers.
Let him do the best he can with a Public Defender. I understand it’s the easiest way to file a motion for a new trial, claiming incompetence.
He can always fall back on the ACLU. They’re fair to EVERYBODY.

Rush Limbaugh(draft-dodger, druggie, child rapist) and Glen beck (serial liar, bat-$#it crazy, unapologetic right-whiner) support you, so why should anyone support the old-style of politics that was voted out in 2008?
You “claim” to be against deficit spending, but where were your concerns when the GOP was borrowing and spending from 2000 through 2008? Why do you hate equal rights for all Americans? Why are you running on an anti-Bush Administration platform AFTER Pres. Bush left office?
Too little, too late. You are a throw-back to the “GOP that was” from 2000 to 2008. You are not what New York, nor what the USA deserves in 2010.

October 28th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
Yes, I’m sure there are a number of matter on which you and I can agree. What topics would you like to suggest?
I’m very much of the opinion that claiming “traditional marriage” to reject equal-rights for gay couples falls into exact same category of “mixed race marriage is non-traditional, therefor should not be allowed”. How can you support double-standard rules for Americans based on one single category?
When you claim to be against deficit spending, where was your “voice of reason” 8 years back when Pres. Bush and the majority Republican House & Senate ran the federal government by borrowing and spending?
Why didn’t you raise your voice against the tax cuts skewed heavily at the top 1% and almost completely ignored the bottom 99%? Where was your “concern” for the public debt that balooned almost 100% between 2000 (then @ 5.67 trillion) and 2008 (now @ 10.06 trillion)?
October 28th, 2009 at 4:05 pmDoug . . change your diet, cut back on the little brown things and your teeth, might whiten naturally . . .

You project a lot, patsy…
October 28th, 2009 at 10:22 pm@ Shayne 69
You’ve got a lot of nerve to claim that no where in America is there a single Church that openly condemned the shooting of Dr Tiller.
Cardinal Justin Rigali of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops stated
“Our bishops’ conference and all its members have repeatedly and publicly denounced all forms of violence in our society, including abortion as well as the misguided resort to violence by anyone opposed to abortion. Such killing is the opposite of everything we stand for, and everything we want our culture to stand for: respect for the life of each and every human being from its beginning to its natural end. We pray for Dr. Tiller and his family.”
Tony Perkins, President of the conservative Family Research Council, condemned the killing, saying, “We are stunned at today’s news. As Christians we pray and look toward the end of all violence and for the saving of souls, not the taking of human life. George Tiller was a man who we publicly sought to stop through legal and peaceful means. We strongly condemn the actions taken today by this vigilante killer and we pray for the Tiller family and for the nation that we might once again be a nation that values all human life, both born and unborn”
The American Jewish Congress stated in a press release that Tiller’s murder “exemplifies criminal anarchy, not legitimate protest. Dr. Tiller’s murder was not just a terrible crime against an individual. It was also a crime against our democracy… Murder is not a debating technique. It is never, and must never be, an accepted way of advancing a point of view.”
And of those Churches who didn’t call attention to themselves (including a number that are pro-choice) do you think they were happy?
Are you really so insane that you think the Lutheran Church was happy one of it’s usher got shot in Church on Sunday morning?
You and all those who voted in agreement with your post should be ashamed of yourselves but frankly I suspect you lack the capacity to feel shame.
Do you get that Shayne?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:27 pmI hear you CD. I was raised Methodist, and a kinder bunch of people you never want to meet. Our church was plain and ugly as Hell, which I was always proud of, because we spent our money on the poor and needy. We’re as liberal as they come. Perhaps some Southern Methodist’s stayed quiet, but all the Western Methodist’s I know are furious and saddened that things have come to this.
