Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate for New York’s traditionally Republican 23rd District, has just won the right-wing support of the Minuteman Political Action Committee — the political action arm of a “nativist extremist” armed vigilante group. The Minuteman PAC is currently running Independent Expenditure radio spots and predicts that Hoffman is “positioned to win a landslide victory” over Republican Party nominee Dede Scozzafava.
The Minuteman PAC’s Hoffman ad claims Scozzafava and Democratic candidate Bill Owens are tied directly to “the left-wing social agenda”:
You already know about ACORN — the corrupt organization scamming your tax dollars to promote a radical left agenda. And you’ve seen videos where Acorn officials offer to help a teenage prostitution ring involving illegal aliens. Now blogger Michele Malkin exposes yet another Acorn scandal: subsidized mortgages for illegal aliens. Acorn must be stopped, but how?
Two candidates for Congress, Dede Scozzafava and Bill Owens, are tied directly to Acorn and their far left-wing socialist agenda. That’s why voters all over Central New York and the North country are backing Doug Hoffman for Congress. Doug Hoffman is a CPA — a solid conservative and the only candidate for Congress opposed to amnesty and government handouts for illegal aliens. And only Hoffman will stand up to Acorn and the liberals. The choice is clear: Doug Hoffman for Congress — the wake-up call politicians in both parties need now.
Listen here:
The Minuteman PAC proclaims that it’s “THE ONE Political Action Committee that the open-borders, pro-amnesty lobby fears most,” but has been widely criticized for hoarding money and spending only a small fraction of its funds on political candidates.
However, Hoffman’s website indicates that he’s actually opposed to putting up a wall to “stop all immigration.” “The answer is to create an easier path for immigrants to enter the United States – and to work here,” says his immigration platform. Agriculture is one of central New York’s main industries and many farmers depend on migrant labor. The New York Farm Bureau has expressed “deep disappointment” in “the failure of Congress…to come up with an immigration reform measure that addresses the pressing labor needs of agriculture in New York and across the nation.”
The divide of the Republican party is proceeding acording to expectations. It’s going to end up being a dust up between the crooks who worship Raygun and the morons who worship Bible Spice.
October 28th, 2009 at 4:05 pmThere is some serious inbreeding going on in parts of upstate ny. I have family up that way and, other than prisonguard, there ain’t a whole lot of anything going on up there. My sister teaches in a school out there and the school district closes down for the first week of deer season because the school bus drivers all call in sick.
October 28th, 2009 at 4:08 pmFunny how Mr. Hoffman does not list “conservative” on his home page. One can only assume that he’s afraid to be labeled as a “conservative”.
Mr. Hoffman “claims” to be against deficit spending, but where were his complaints between 2000 and 2008 when the Republican majority ran the federal government on a “borrow and spend” platform? Not one single word of complaint.
It seems clear to me that Mr. Hoffman is a throw-back to the party that was voted out in 2006 and 2008, and does not represent the best solution for New York, nor for America.
October 28th, 2009 at 4:14 pmDude. You’re representing the northernmost counties of New York. You should probably be more worried about Canadians sneaking across the border to get a view of Lake Placid than about scary brown people looking for work in New Mexico.
It’s because of this kind of rhetoric that the “conservatives” will never gain power and why the GOP will never again be a cohesive party.

October 28th, 2009 at 4:22 pmBring your own Chex mix?
I wasn’t aware that illegal immigration and ACORN were the two issues that mattered most to Americans these days. So I tried to look up a recent poll to update myself.
The most recent poll I could find on the subject was a CBS News poll conducted earlier this month, which showed the top two priorities are still “economy/jobs” and “health care”.
http://www.pollingreport.com/prioriti.htm
I scrolled down to see if there were any other fairly recent polls showing a burning concern about ACORN. Nope — for the past several months, the polls have been amazingly consistent. The top issue with Americans is the economy or some variant thereof (like unemployment), and the second hot button issue is health care.
But I realize here that the objective here isn’t to convert the sensible — it’s to get the kool-aid drinkers off their couches and into the voting booth.
October 28th, 2009 at 4:23 pmDoes this mean we are going to build a wall along the NY-Canadian border to prevent the thousands of Canadians coming here for jobs and healthcare? [major snark]
October 28th, 2009 at 4:23 pmA small group like ACORN is now the boogeyman for the Lunatic Fringe? A group who, in 15 years, got less federal money than Blackwater gets from the feds in one DAY of war profiteering? A group who, unlike Blackwater, has never killed anyone?
These people are seriously off their rockers.

Beautiful area (e.g., 1,000 Islands), good fishing, etc., but definetly a wingnut infested district. I believe it’s one of the most welfare dependent (and white) areas in the state.
So – surprise! – they lean GOP, whine about ACORN and blame every problem on minorities. F***ing hypocrites.
I got a lot of stares last year when I visited in my pickup plastered with Obama stickers. Being a long haired white boy, and looking kind of psychopathic myself, must have really made their little brains short circuit (thinking I was one of “them” – LOL).

No kidding, lets just ignore that no “voter fraud” ever happened from ACORN registration – whilst the GOP was involved in phone jamming “voter fraud” orchestrated by the white house… Then there’s that no government money for “criminal” corporations – while blackwater, Halliburton and the entire GOP military industrial complex has been caught lying, cheating, stealing, murdering and every other crime that should prohibit a company from doing business period!

Why does a self-described “conservative” refuse to mention the word “conservative” once on his main web-page? Afraid of being diagnosed with “inflamed hypocrisy, and severe cranial-anal impact”??? ;-)

You’re both correct. The “mexicas” were Native Americans, ruling over most of Mexico before the Europeans arrived. But by now, the huge majority of us Mexicans have both European and American ancestors.

We have one guy here in Seattle who won’t list any party affiliation in his ads and makes a point of that…in other words…Republican.

I’m with you there! If the Libertarians and ‘Conservatives’ siphon off enough votes from the Republicans maybe we can afford to have a few Progressive candidates influencing the discussion a bit. The Democratic party has gone a too far to the right for my liking.
October 28th, 2009 at 5:16 pmThe “conservatives” go after ACORN because they love hating on the poor and disadvantaged. They always wrongly accuse the organization of voter fraud. I always thought voter fraud was different from voter registration fraud.
The reason they want to connect Dede Scozzafava to ACORN is because of the endorsement she received from the Working Families Party. Dede’s husband, Ron McDougall, was an organizer for the WFP in the early 1990s. So Dede is guilty by association because her husband helped organize the WFP, which the conservatives call a “front” for ACORN. This is just as pitiful as the attempt to call the president a terrorist because he was on the same board as William Ayers run by the Annenbergs who have always voted republican. The conservatives want Ms. S to repudiate ACORN and the WFP simply because she and the head of ACORN are friends and her husband helped organize the WFP.
What sense this makes is beyond me because imo it’s just one more example of a toxic mess cooked up by the conservatives to create a problem where none exists. If you really want to begin to rid the U.S. of corrupt organizations, start with the RNC and begin in Ohio. Call Rove, Cheney, Duncan, and Blackburn to testify first. Then move on down to Tennessee to find out why vote totals were run trhough a computer in TN to be counted. Find out who hacked into Bruner’s office computer last year. Now this would show how interested the conservatives are in investigating voter registration and voter fraud.

October 28th, 2009 at 10:23 pmjust the bleepn facts,
RIGHT.
What wrong a few workers for ACORN might have done did not result in one wrongful person voting nor preventing one legitimate person from voting. Republicans on the other hand have flipped many many thousands of votes, knocked eligible voters off the rolls, jammed the phone lines, sent out flyers with bogus info, made phone calls with bogus info, given Democratic districts a lot fewer machines, give them the worst machines, control the tabulators, etc. etc.
It is quite impossible for exit polls in 2004 to be off by a full 3.0% across the entire nation as the official results say.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:32 pmhttp://www.vanityfair.com/online/politics/2008/11/could-voter-fraud-tilt-the-election-again.html
Electronic voter fraud could be the big surprise, says computer expert Stephen Spoonamore. A principal of Global Strategic Partners, a company that specializes in secure network architecture for large international corporations, Spoonamore testified recently in an Ohio court case that hacking probably changed the results of the 2004 presidential election. He also told Vanityfair.com that it could well happen again.
According to an affidavit by Spoonamore (a registered Republican who once worked for Rudy Giuliani) in the court case, “The vote tabulation and reporting system… allowed the introduction of a single computer in the middle of the pathway…. This centralized collection of all incoming statewide tabulations would make it extremely easy for a single operator…to change the results in any way desired by the team controlling Computer C. In this case GOP partisan operatives.”
