Boehner Won’t Pledge To Offer GOP Health Care Plan, Refuses To Post It Online If He Does

Republicans have been insisting for months that Democrats are shoving a secret bill down the throats of the American public. The health reform legislation “should be posted online for 72 hours so members and the American people get a chance to see what’s in these bills,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) told Fox News. “But it seems to me that Democrat leaders want to rush these bills through Congress before anybody has a chance to read them.”

In fact, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) “has repeatedly pledged to Republicans that the health bill and any manager’s amendment would be posted online for at least 72 hours before the House votes,” and he promised again this week.

At a press conference this morning, a reporter turned the tables on Boehner and asked whether he’d post the GOP plan for 72 hours. Boehner declined to make such a pledge:

QUESTION: Will the Republicans put their alternative online for 72 hours as well?

BOEHNER: Uh, we’ll uh, we’ll have our ideas ready. Don’t worry.

Why won’t Bohner post the GOP plan? Because he doesn’t have one. Later in the press conference, this minor detail was revealed when a reporter pressed Boehner for a GOP alternative plan:

QUESTION: Is it your plan to have one Republican alternative that you all would get behind and endorse?

BOHNER: We have a number of ideas that we would like to proffer in this process, and we’re not quite sure how the majority intends to proceed. And so until we understand how they intend to proceed, it’s pretty difficult for us to have a solid plan.

Watch it:

Earlier this month, Fox’s Greta van Susteren asked Boehner why House Republicans didn’t push for transparency when they were in power. “It was a different time,” Boehner said in response.

It’s clear why Republicans have been insisting on having as much time as possible to read the bill. As Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) explained, health insurance lobbyists need to be given “at least 72 hours” so they can try to kill the legislation.

They got nothing meaningful and didn’t think they would have to offer anything. This shows the Pubs had no intention of working with Democrats or even offering the public anything. Hail your republican representatives!!! Your desire to make healthcare is unimportant!

The big money leg humpers for minority rule dont have any reform plan because their non-government paycheck requires it.

Democrats have posted their bill on line:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/29/history-in-the-making-rea_n_338438.html

If Republicans agree that our healthcare system is currently unsatisfactory, they need to additionally post their proposed solutions online, so the American people can decide between completing plans.

If the Republicans can offer no solution, or are unwilling to post a bill on-line (as Democrats have); they need to resign themselves to being merely obstructionists.

  6. SP Biloxi says:

“Boehner Won’t Pledge To Offer GOP Health Care Plan, Refuses To Post It Online If He Does”

In plain English: No plan, no idea, and no direction. And the reason for Boner not to put their plan online? Simply, they don’t want to be the butt of the joke. And after their laughable press conference in April and the release of their 18 page pamphlet and one pic of windmill online of their budgetless budget plan from the GOP’s starving for recovery plan, you can see why.

In other words, they have no plan, they never had a plan, and they don’t intend to draw up a plan. What infuriates me (and it should most taxpaying americans) is they are grabbing a salary of at the minimum of $174,000 (more if they are whips and committee chairs) and have done NOTHING but whine and obstruct.

In this weeks Newsweek, they are quoted as saying that they have no intention of seeing Obama succeed and no intention of helping with his agenda……with an attitude like that they should simply stay home.

Everyone here is making the assumption (implied or otherwise) that the Republicans feel that the health care system is broken. To them, it is working just fine.

By enriching the people that donate the most to their political campaigns, they are able to stay in office.

Who cares if people are dying because they can’t get proper treatment for their health issues. If they are that poor, then they can’t donate money to candidates and offer cushy jobs to politicians that leave office, so they are irrelevant and worthy of death.

  46. EnnuiDivine says:

It’s not in the GOPs interest to put out a plan; they cannot govern or legislate. The only thing they know how to do is smear, attack, and divide to the point where they have the public scared shitless and vote them into power. Once there, though, the public realizes they can’t do a goddamm thing and they get laughed out of sight.

Boehner’s GOP plan would almost certainly consist of:

    Tax cuts for the wealthy
Rolling back capital gains tax rates (irrelevant to the topic, but a GOP favorite anyway)
    Privatizing Medicare
    Privatizing or eliminating Medicaid
    Eliminating SCHIP
    Tort reform

All this would explode the deficit and further increase the insurance industry’s stranglehold over the populace.

  55. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Please, someone correct me if I am remembering this wrong, but I thought that when the Republicans controlled both Houses, they routinely shut the Democrats completely out of all Conference Committees, where the final versions of the bills were written. No, it’s pretty applicable.

Here’s a couple of competing definitions for ‘whore’:

    – prostitute: a woman who engages in sexual intercourse for money

    – compromise oneself for money or other gains

And here’s a couple of competing definitions for ‘half breed’:

    – an offensive term for an offspring of parents of different races

    – a person who has parents of at least two different nationalities

If you condone Grayson’s ‘whore’ remarked based on the availability of definitions, do you also condone the bar owner’s ‘half breed’ sentiment based on the available of competing definitions?

This is simple and Grayson understands it. It was wrong to refer to Robertson as a K Street Whore. As wrong as it was calling President Obama a ‘half breed’.

I dont think I am missing the joke. I think the joke he is trying to have is at our expense. He is screwing with us. Trying to push our buttons. He is pure troll and I have nothing but contempt for him

gummitch is right about Doug Hoffman.

  102. texaslady says:

backup – definition of whore can be male or female and selling oneself for gain or services. Well, in this case she was a lobbyist for Enron which precluded Maddoff in taking millions from working people. So, I think the definition was correct. And, as a newbie Grayson still is Captain Cojones in my book. The corruption hasn’t gotten him yet.

Also, can anyone else say take away Anti Trust Exemption from the insurance companies ? How many other companies get to control the areas they market too ? Don’t know about you but our premiums just went up AGAIN.

  103. texaslady says:

As most offensive comment, no one can beat limbaugh’s “bend over and grab your ankles.” Or his rendition of magic negro. It really makes me sick that so many listen to that bag of garbage. What happened to Americans values.

  104. backup says:

texaslady. We should not let partisan sympathies be the basis for what behavior we will condone; for this reason.

If people cheer Grayson’s ‘whore’ comment, the next opportune time opposition wants to tear down a female politician or civil servant over policy – they can slur her as a ‘whore’, with the Grayson comment as justification.

It’s similar to the hit our collective civility has taken since the Joe Wilson ‘You lie’ spectacle:

    http://thinkprogress.org/2009/10/28/gonzales-you-lie/

Grayson has handled this the right way. He got fired up and misspoke. Then he apologized, because he realized it was the wrong thing to say:

“I offer my sincere apology to Linda Robertson, an adviser to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke,” Grayson said in a statement emailed to reporters. “I did not intend to use a term that is often, and correctly, seen as disrespectful of women.”

Grayson is right, those who think his whore comment was appropriate; are not.

  105. backup says:

instead of since, that should have been, “because of the Joe Wilson ‘You lie’ spectacle”

Nope, not even close. joe was wrong in substance and location.

Greyson was right in substance. The only thing offensive other than that was the actual word “whore”.

You have defined it yourself. these people are whores. Obama did not lie. Go f uck yourself or tell the republicans you have a problem with their crap.

  107. Zooey says:

    backup,

    STOP DIGGING!

  108. texaslady says:

The word whore is not just female, it is anyone that sells itself to the highest bidder. Right now, I consider libermann, mcconnell, rove, evan byah, max baucus, ben nelson, it goes on and on. They dance to the tune of the ones that pay the most and backup you and all of America are being sold out, wake up.

  109. texaslady says:

Like it or not the 1960’s were the last great generation. At least they had the backbone to march, scream and demand change. Americans have become fat, lazy and prefer to listen to whatever their preacher, commentator tells them instead of reading and checking facts.

  110. texaslady says:

Grayson should stand by his words and tell those questioning to look up the definition and see if she doesn’t fit.

  111. backup says:

Greyson was right in substance. The only thing offensive other than that was the actual word “whore”.

    Fred.

I agree with you here. I’m not disagreeing on the substance of what he said, only that he used the word ‘whore’.

Some people are saying that using ‘whore’ was appropriate. I disagree with that.

  112. deeplycynical says:

The GOP plan is already in existence. The only change they want is a mandated 40 million new victims to be sentenced to health insurance hell.

We got that backup, 80+ posts ago…
Is there something about this word that really has your corset cinched to tight?

  114. backup says:

    noseeum. I’ll give it up.

  115. barfly says:

Grayson is right, those who think his whore comment was appropriate; are not.

So, you think just because she’s a woman, the term should be off limits? A feminist would argue that you’re patronizing women in general, when you declare that a person who acts like a prostitute, can’t be called one, simple because of her gender. They seem to think women are strong enough to take insults that aren’t gender-specific. Funny, huh? Perhaps if he’d simply called her a K Street prostitute, you wouldn’t be so offended.

I wonder if I could trouble you to tell me what the relationship between All Hallows Eve and All Saints Day is?

Random, let’s not split hairs here, evil is evil. I’m not for banning Halloween per se, but, when I’m elected, I will repeal it. And you may thank God for that!

  117. barfly says:

I’m not for banning Halloween per se, but, when I’m elected, I will repeal it. And you may thank God for that!

It’s not a real holiday, so thanking a nonexistent entity for it’s repeal is hyper-goofy.

    Or is that your schtick?

  118. squidbilly says:

The big Boner is an automaton for the Health Insurance Industry. Of course there isn’t a republican health reform plan unless it allows for the health (or is it wealth care?)insurance’s increase of profit over health care.

Every industry is entitled to make a profit, but blatant greed is another thing.

    LOL

  120. backup says:

Zooey and barfly. You’re right. I thought about the idea of singling out the derogatory nature of the term ‘whore’ to just women and that could be considered patronizing. I, do however, think you could make the argument that the term is offensive when it’s applied to a man.

I found this video. I find it offensive, but I’m offering it up as an example of a male being called a whore. Obviously, it’s up to each individual to decide if it’s offensive or not. (Even if you don’t find it offensive, it would be hard to describe it as enlightened):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCoOkVy-6Wc

It’s a free country. Anybody can call anybody a whore. Whether it’s used against a man or a woman, I still think the term is offensive and we’d probably be better off using something else.

BOHNER: We have a number of ideas that we would like to proffer in this process…

…And those ideas are Tort Reform and less regulation on the Insurance Industry.

BOHNER: And so until we understand how they intend to proceed, it’s pretty difficult for us to have a solid plan.

Our ‘plan’ is more gaseous than solid or liquid in form.

  125. Rekniht says:

Maybe it’s just me, but I see a lot more STFU’s, MORONs, CAPSLOLs in general, and ad hominem attacks on this website than any conservative website I’ve ever been to. News flash: those things are neither witty (unless you’re 12) nor convincing.

I’ve also noticed that if anybody posts views contrary to those expressed in the articles here they are immediately voted down and attacked with zealous fervor. Almost as if they are a heretic in the view of the temple of liberalism. If you don’t want to have a dialogue with people who disagree with you why post at all? Is a one sided political discussion truly that appealing? Do you have the need for an echo chamber of ideas you already hold? If your views are sound you shouldn’t. If you do… you might just want to take a few steps back and rethink your position.

I am not a Republican or a Democrat. I am also not a fan of the government. Why some people seem to put so much faith in it eludes me. Do you really trust the government to handle things better than for-profit companies? At least to turn a profit you must be efficient and make your customers happy. Last time I checked, the evil health insurers made around 2-3% profit, not exactly a consumer rape fest. Oh and on that note… Medicare has a claim denial rate of over 9% whereas the highest denial rate for a private insurer is just over 4%. Does the government still sound so benevolent?

I’ll not tell any of you what you should think or insult you if you disagree with me. I do, however, urge you to scrutinize your own political beliefs. If nothing else, it will only strengthen your original position. I have a feeling, though, that if you do a bit of digging beyond what the right and left throw at you, the things that are going down in the White House right now would scare the sh1t out of you.
