Iowa Republicans balk at Palin’s pricey fees: She should be honored we ask her to come and speak.

Sarah Palin in Iowa The conservative Iowa Family Policy Center is trying to raise $100,000 to bring former Alaska governor Sarah Palin to speak at its banquet next month. But according to GOP leaders in the state, the move would “represent a striking departure from customary practice in the first-in-the-nation state” because most White House hopefuls have “paid their own way to boost their party and presidential ambitions.” Other conservative groups in the state say they would never pay Palin to come speak:

– “If somebody tells me they want me to pay an appearance fee, it tells me they’re not very serious about running for president,” said Ed Failor, Jr., president of Iowans for Tax Relief and an influential GOP insider.

– Steve Scheffler, the president of the Iowa Christian Alliance and a longtime GOP activist, said his organization would also never ante up. “We certainly wouldn’t do it, even if we had the money.

– Tim Albrecht, spokesman for the conservative, Iowa-based American Future Fund, said his group “has a policy not to pay speakers to come to Iowa,” and, like Failor, hinted at what those guests get in return. “We are proud to host conservative leaders from across the country, providing them an audience across the state and nation to share their conservative vision,” Albrecht said.

The Iowa Family Policy Center insists that the $100,000 isn’t for a speaking fee, but “only to secure a venue, pay for lighting and promote the event.” Palin has not given any indication that she’ll attend anyway.

What does she have to say they havent heard before?

  2. Xisithrus says:

    You betcha!

Now pay me 100k for speaking.

“…the $100,000 isn’t for a speaking fee, but “only to secure a venue, pay for lighting and promote the event”

A parking lot, a couple dozen Coleman lanterns and some postcards shouldn’t cost that much…

  5. P.D. says:

Oh, Please. This is a woman who lives for fame and money. She friggin quit her job and it was rumored she was getting a talk show. Now she made millions for a book. What I find so funny is how she slammed Levi (I think he is a scum too) for doing anything for money when she is doing exactly the same thing. This is your Queen, Repugs! Yeah, good luck with that!

  6. Badmoodman says:

Iowa Republicans balk at Palin’s pricey fees: She should be honored we ask her to come and speak.

    – - And Palin thinks Levi is whoring himself out?

  7. Badmoodman says:

Iowa Republicans balk at Palin’s pricey fees: She should be honored we ask her to come and speak.

    – - Speaking of whoring, how laughable and hypocritical that Palin would attack Levi Johnston for “selling his body for money.” This coming from a former beauty pageant contestant… a well established industry built on ’selling bodies.’

  8. missmolly says:

Anybody who ponies up the money for Sarah to come and speak no doubt deserves what they get in return — a canned collection of tired soundbites, winks, and “you betcha”s from a woman who is far more interested in making money than she is in promoting a conservative agenda, serving her country, or motivating anyone.

Oh, and don’t expect her to agree to any Q&A sessions, where somebody would surely ask her something she couldn’t answer. She probably has that in all of her contracts.

  9. lokidog says:

I know how they can raise money:

put that *sshole Steven King (R-IA) in one of those dunk booths, but fill it up with good ol’ IA cow piss and manure.

I’ll be more than happy to drive out there and contribute money for a shot at dunking his wingnut *ss into that messy “brew”, and I’ll bet there are lots of us that would!

  10. Wiz says:

Palin isn’t going to run, she is just trying to line her pockets. That is why she quit the Governor job, to get the dough before people realize she is not a serious person. On the side the dispute with Levi is really cool, she won’t run because if he really knows stuff as he claims, he has a real economic incentive to hold out on it and get another big payday if she does try to run. The radical right is all in an uproar complaining about what a scumbag he is, just trying to cash in, but he just doing the same thing she is.

  11. noseeum says:

Levi says he has something huge on Palin that he’s not revealing…

Guess we’ll soon find out, huh?

  12. Dr. Hussein Matt says:

Looks like OSarah bin Palin can remove that “America First” slogan from her bumper.

Nothing. Because she’s not about to SAY anything she hasn’t said before. Writing a new speech (or hiring somebody to write one for you) costs extra.

  14. Rab says:

C’mon repugs, pay that fee so there is less money to use against democratic candidates.

  15. Lunaluz says:

Sweet, Sweet Sarah… the money grubbing, huckstering,I’m a princess, it’s all about me, trainwreck continues to entertain me. I await with bated breath the next skirmish in the Palin/Johnson family feud.

    – - Yeah, and we’re gonna see it on Playgirl.com.

  17. P.D. says:

This whole battle between Palin and Levi shows how screwed up and juvenile these people are. How she became Govenor is beyond me. It’s like a very bad reality show. All the players are petty, shallow and will do anything with fame. It’s almost surreal.

  18. Xisithrus says:

Im going to make my family values that of Limbaugh.

Here kids, take your pills until you go deaf and remember to rant and point fingers, your not to blame for anything wrong in this world, evah! O, and dont forget to sockpuppet Jesus and claim your moral superiority and demonize others to make you feel better about your addiction.

  19. Parlezvous says:

Scary Sarah should get the former “First Dud” to drive her to Iowa and make her case for Conservative “values” and the Presidency in a feeder hog lot. She would fit right in there among the pork and pig poop. What a poor, misguided, eventual footnote to history she is. I do hope she is a Republican contender and can lead the party into disarray prior to the election in 2012.

  20. noseeum says:

They don’t want to pay to see Sarah, but they will pay to see Levi’s Johnston.

  21. Buckie Boy says:

Don’t they know that Palin is only concerned with making money off her 15 min of fame?

    No dough, no go.

Besides Palin is a moron…oh forgot, republicans are morons…so I guess they won’t know the difference if she speaks.

The Iowa Family Policy Center insists that the $100,000 isn’t for a speaking fee, but “only to secure a venue, pay for lighting and promote the event.”

Wouldn’t the “banquet” have cost the same amount whether or not Sarah showed up? You’d still need the venue, lighting, promotion, etc.

Unless the extra $100,000 cost is for something else directly related to making Sarah show up, of course.

  23. EnnuiDivine says:

Further proof that Palin isn’t a politician, but an overpriced spokesmodel for thoroughly discredited consevative ideology.

    You betcha.

  24. paleolib says:

If she couldn’t hack it as governor of a small state with a slush fund that pays residents for living there she isn’t going to run for president so exposure in Iowa does her no good. She wants cash, not votes. Question is why anyone would pay her to show up other than to say you saw someone who was on teevee. Perhaps the entertainment options in Iowa get slim during the cold weather months but $100k sounds pretty steep for someone who has nothing to say that you can’t hear from any bible-thumping school board candidate.

  25. okie dokie says:

Clueless Sarah probably doesn’t realized the importance
of a presidental hopeful’s popularity in Iowa.
And even the delusional GOP doesn’t want to waste their money
on a professional quitter with a walk-in closet full of scandal, this far out.

  26. Rascalcat says:

Like I’ve said since she quit on Alaska, “She’s in this for the easy cash, she wants no part of the responsibilities of running for office.” In effect, she is quitting early.

  27. Shayne says:

Levi is a 19 year old small town boy thrust into the limelight. Most young actors you see have been working at it their whole lives. I don’t blame him for having trouble navigating his way around and trying to make money while he can. But Sarah worked her way up to Governor and is the mother of 5 children. She should know better.

  28. P.D. says:

All these Repugs are going off the deep end. Why cough up that money for Sarah? She is extremely unpopular. One in seven would vote for her. If anything, they should invite Huckabee. He’s much more popular. Hell, Invite Orly Taitz! I heard she is in a war with that ‘Liberal’ Bill O’Liely. LOL! You can’t make this up!

  29. Shayne says:

I hope somebody pays Levi enough money so that he tells everything he knows about the Palin family.

  30. liberalinaredstate says:

Sarah Palin is a self serving b**ch! She no business on the political scene at all. She’s an embarrassment to this nation

  31. jbrantow says:

“The conservative Iowa Family Policy Center is trying to raise $100,000 to bring former Alaska governor Sarah Palin to speak at its banquet next month. ”

But those hypocritical teabagging zealots wouldn’t raise a dime to help a homeless person, a uninsurable sick citizen or any money to donate to something other than their own greedy and self serving causes…like anti gay marriage or anti choice causes.

  32. Xisithrus says:

Oily Traits called Bellow, the self proclaimed falafel wielding culture warrior a liberal?

    Heh.

  33. Shayne says:

    Is it wrong? :)

  34. spearNmagicHelmet says:

    conservative. that’s a funny word.

  35. Lunaluz says:

Sarah will stay in the spotlight just enough to keep her slavering cult like fans drooling for more, so she can Cherry pick speaking engagements and make big money off her misguided fans. I’d be surprised if she had any interest in public office, she already said being a governor was “too hard”, now run down and get me another Crunchwrap like a dear!

  36. noseeum says:

Rest assured Levi’s memoir is already on the drawing table, Shayne.

  37. okie dokie says:

Oops. Strike that “d” in realized on @25.

  41. P.D. says:

X@32, Apparently Orly was scheduled to go on Billo’s show and he balked at the last minute. This is a rumor. But I read several reports that she is going to protest against Billo. I guess you can’t put the Genie back in the bottle can you?

  42. Shayne says:

Doug Hoffman, you’re still down 1% so I don’t think they’ve called you the winner yet. You’re just beating the Republican. And if the Democrat wins Palin and her ilk are going to take the blame.

  43. Levi the Oracle says:

Who would pay in advance to hear Sarah Palin speak when she may decide to simply not show up?

Even the fascists don’t trust Sarah.

  49. mary lacewing says:

You’d have to pay ME a lot of money to listen to that woman speak.

She’s mean-spirited and her voice grates. I bet people come away from hearing her speak feeling meaner and angrier than ever!

  52. Rab says:

  53. okie dokie says:

I’d buy tickets to see Orly if we could bring paint guns.

  54. fergus says:

  65. EnnuiDivine says:

One way or another, the NY-23 is a HUGE blow to the GOP. While the best outcome would be Owens beating back Hoffman…even if Hoffman wins, he won’t be able to legislate. The guy is a Potemkin politician, with no experience or idea about his constituents. He’s been propped up by national conservatives looking to further their own political agendas..and the people of the district are the ones who will suffer. Scozzafava is actually to the left of Owens on a few issues and would seems to give a damn about the people of her district. Owens is a respected member of the community and has done extensive community outreach. The two debated each other and agreed on many issues…while Hoffman was MIA. A Hoffman victory will empower the teabaggers to primary the everliving hell out of any candidate they view to be moderate and the media whore conservatives who have their own future political machinations will cheer them on.

There’s a lot of beauty to be had in the GOP implosion, but the idea of Congressman Hoffman should scare the hell out of the 23rds residents.

  66. Doug Hoffman says:

    Fred Thompson likes me.

  67. EmTee says:

Are these Iowans truly that stupid to not realize the ONLY reason Palin would speak anywhere is for the money? Do they actually still believe she cares about country, “conservative values”, religion, or anything else?

By this time, how could ANYBODY not see Palin for what she is? I mean, even if you were deluded enough to think she was great back when she was actually employed and campaigning, surely by now you would realize she’s a money-hungry whore?

  68. Shayne says:

Hey, who is going to vacuum up all this confetti on my floor?

  69. Doug Hoffman says:

Ennui, I got TPM on board and we’re doing just fine.

  71. noseeum says:

    Doug Hoffman says:

Because you nip the ends of his cigars for him?

  72. Doug Hoffman says:

Liberal pessimism is a positive force for conservative candidates. If I could just find a way to rattle Rachel Maddow’s cage my campaign would have it made!

  73. MapleStreet says:

Based on past performance, even if Palin should indicate that she will attend (which almost certainly means she has gotten the $100k), will she actually show up ?

BTW – I bet for a cheaper amount, you could get William Shatner to come and recite Palin’s speech for her.

Shatner could make a trip both to there and Riverside, Iowa (the future home of James T. Kirk).

too much intrusion, loss of privacy and all that…

    she is a tease… and a grifter.

she wants the cash… and the adoration… but mostly the cash.

  85. sscncturn64 says:

  86. Leftside Annie says:

Doug Hoffman, why is it that your head is so small when it peeks out the neck of your too-large suit…?

With those glasses and those little walleyes – well, let’s just say that if I called Central Casting and asked them to send me a guy to play a nerdy-looking little pervert, it’d be you.

  87. J. Fred Smug says:

Sarah clearly didn’t get the memo: only successful elected office-holders can charge that type of a fee for lecturing AFTER they have finished their FULL term(s) of office.

Sarah’s a quitter who thinks she’s hit a home run after 3 strikes.
