Lieberman plans to campaign for Republicans in 2010.

McCain, Lieberman, and Graham After joining with Republicans this week in a promise to filibuster health reform if a public option is included, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) tells ABC News that he plans on campaigning for some GOP candidates in the 2010 elections:

I probably will support some Republican candidates for Congress or Senate in the elections in 2010. I’m going to call them as I see them.

There’s a hard core of partisan, passionate, hardcore Republicans. There’s a hard core of partisan Democrats on the other side. And in between is the larger group, which is people who really want to see the right thing done, or want something good done for this country and them — and that means, sometimes, the better choice is somebody who’s not a Democrat.

Lieberman also said it remains an “open question” whether he will seek the Democratic nomination when he runs for re-election in 2012. Last month, Lieberman also joked that he may run as a Republican. In September 2008, Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter — who was then still a member of the GOP — ironically said that Lieberman was “practically” voting as a Republican already and should just switch parties.

Can anyone say loose cannon? This guy is about as stable as 100 year old dynomite.

    What’s the joke?

  3. P.D. says:

How long do you think LIEberman can hold unto his seat? He has kicked dirt in everyones eye. The Dems are a bunch of fools if they don’t strip him of every committee. History will not judge him kindly.

  4. makete says:

  5. ljm says:

Please run as a Repub jumpin’ Joe! Then Connecticut can really show you how it feels about your other face. If you had been elected VP would you have spied for the opposition then too?

  6. EnnuiDivine says:

I take it this means Lieberman is supporting Rob Simmons against Dodd, his colleague of 20+ years?

Lieberman is a disgrace to the state, the Senate, and the country. He’ll probably work out a deal to run as a Republican in 2012, assuming he hasn’t switched parties before then.

  7. P.D. says:

LIEberman is a bitter old fool. He is making powerful enemies. Already some Blue Dogs are fleeing him. Even Evan Bayh ditched him. But the thing is, good ole Joe doesn’t give a Sh*t. This bill is being held hostage by him. What a dirt-bag.

  8. Uncle Ho says:

LIEberman may run as a Repiggie

Making a joke of something that is already true?

  9. mike from Arlington says:

Traitor Joe. The name seems more fitting every day.

  10. Briseadh na Faire says:

As long as Lieberman get to caucus with the Democrats, the Republicans have a direct pipeline to their plans, proposals and strategies. That’s why they have their talking points ready the instant a Democratic proposal is announced.

Democrat, Republican or Independent, if Connecticut re-elects him, they will be doing the whole country a disservice, in my opinion.

  11. Leftside Annie says:

Get the hell out, you saggy old liar – the sooner, the better!!!

  12. P.D. says:

Bri@10, Joe barely survived the last election. But people don’t take kindly to turn-coats. Right here in PA. Arlen Specter is fighting for his political survival. Many people here are infuriated he switched Parties just to save his skin.

  13. Mr.Bungle says:

    Senator Reid,

feel free to throw Lieberman out of the caucus. He does not deserve to be chairman of the local school board. Let him truly be an independent. If he runs as a republican he will lose. Get rid of him. Show the activists out here that the Democratic party means to do the people’s business and those that aren’t on board with that will pushed aside.

  14. evangenital says:

Joe the Bummer really is a repiggie in his heart.

The Dems need to cut him loose, period.

Let’ s really organize to toss out the Likud Senator.

We need someone to represent U.S. citizens instead.

  15. DvlsAdvocat says:

Sure am glad we didn’t push Uncle Joe out the door when we had the chance….Democrats look like idiots for letting this known Benedict Arnold hang around for another term.

  16. aarrgghh says:

joe’s an attention whore suffering from diarrhea of the mouth. he knows that joining the minority is political self-castration (no committee chairs) and he knows that the only reason republicans give him the time of day is because he gives them “bipartisan” cover while sticking his finger in reid’s eye.

joe’s already in the best position he’ll have for the rest of his overlong career.

  17. evangenital says:

    2012 isn’t that far away.

I hope that a candidate emerges so that we can give Joe the Bummer the heave-ho, and fast.

  18. missmolly says:

I believe that even in this age of political polarization, it’s possible for a person to be legitimately conservative on some issues and legitimately liberal on others. Such a person should not be faulted for refusing to be part of The Borg on either side.

That said, however — it’s one thing to disagree with your party on some issues. Blue Dog Democrats do this all the time. It’s quite another thing to actively campaign for the other party — something that not even the Blue Dogs do, but Lieberman does.

Lieberman needs to decide which side of the fence he’s on — or be cast out on a desert island, caucusing with NOBODY.

  19. dumbstruck says:

Juck Foe Lieberman and the horse he rode in on.

  20. Marie says:

    Two-faced, lying, hypocritical bastard.

May he find himself exiled in no-man’s land politically, and end his days in disgrace.

  21. Badmoodman says:

    – - Right you are, Mr. Magoo.

  22. Marie says:

    DvlsAdvocat
I don’t think that the Dems look stupid — I think they look like they desperately tried to reach out to Lieberman — he, however, is the one who betrayed himself as ungrateful, traitorous, and insincere, and small. No one should want him on their side because he cannot be trusted.
    He is the loser.

  23. Chuck Feney says:

I nominate Joe Lieberman for the Zell Miller Turncoat of Distinction award.

  24. P.D. says:

Chuck@23, LOL! I almost forgot about good ole Zell. What has Zell been doing lately. Challenging more people to duels?

  25. Dave N says:

If this isn’t enough for the Dems to kick him out of the caucus, I don’t know what is.

Along the lines of what Briseadh na Faire said in post 10, this is like a football team having one of their players passing secrets to a few players from the other team the night before the Super Bowl.

To outright admit it is a slap in the face of every Democrat in Congress.

    Dump Traitor Joe.

  26. William W. Wexler says:

I nominate Joe Lieberman for the Droopy Dawg edition of the Benedict Arnold Award.

Dems should take away his committee chairmanship at minimum. Is castration an option?

  29. The Dogfather says:

Joe Lieberman (I-CT) is right — it’s all about the “I” for Lieberman; himself, Israel, irrationality, insanity…

  30. Dave N says:

    You forgot Idiocy.

  31. Bob says:

This sort of thing shows how it’s really a one-party system with the illusion of a two-party system. Both parties are more concerned with corporate survival than the will (or health) of the people. They claim these vast differences, but when each has the chance to make change, both drag their feet.

Of all things shoved through with R control, wouldn’t you think abortion would be totally outlawed by now? On the other side, wouldn’t there be a great shift in the resources spent on foriegn ‘engagements’? That’s only a couple of examples.

  32. Purple State says:

So essentially Joe Lieberman was the “player to be named later” in the trade for Arlen Specter…

  33. zuch says:

    #5 ljm says:

Please run as a Repub jumpin’ Joe! Then Connecticut can really show you how it feels about your other face. If you had been elected VP would you have spied for the opposition then too?

He essentially did. After Lamont beat him in the primary, he ran as an independent. There was a nominal “Republican” candidate as well, picked in the primary. But national Republicans came to the “Connecticut for Lieberman Party”, and pulled in volunteers and money for him … and threw the nominal Republican under the bus. In the end, I think the nominal Republican (can’t even remember his name) got some 10% of the vote or so … with the bulk of the Republican vote in CT going for Lieberman. That, along with the independents and stoopider Democrats that didn’t want to see Lieberman turned out to pasture, put him over the top.

It didn’t help that some national Democrats <*ahem* coff, coff!> also supported Lieberman. This was our “N.Y. 23rd” moment. I hope we’ve learned.

    Cheers,

This would be even funnier if we weren’t currently stuck with both of the traitorous fossils.

  36. Marie says:

When traitor Joe votes against the health care reform, then it will be time to officially kick him out of the party.

  37. lokidog says:

I’m starting to believe Lieberman knows he will never run again and is simply letting his real self out.

And in doing so, he’s laughing at all those in CT and across the country who, for all these years, supported him and thought he was a Democrat.

    What a despicable human being.

  38. harmon says:

the poster at #10 makes a great point. the democrats ought to throw lieberman out of the caucus and cut this charade. the guy is entitled to his lousy opinions and i don’t much care for all the ‘traitor joe’ stuff (in spite of my agreeing with the gist of that post), but being entitled to his opinions doesn’t make him any less of a douchebag. out, already.

  42. dutchman says:

Way to go Joe!!! You should be stumping for the RIGHT candidate regardless of what Party they belong to. Anyone who votes only for Democraps or Repukins is an idiot and not even a useful one. You should not be breeding, much less voting. That is exactly what is wrong with our political system now. Personally, I won’t vote for any incumbent. They are all leading us down a path of destruction because they stump the party line instead of representing the American people. Do you guys belong to the Jim Jones Society?

  43. ralph the wonder llama says:

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but isn’t “ALL incumbents are bad” just as lazily undiscriminating a position as voting exclusively for a single party, no matter who they run for office?

  44. DavidHart says:

Too bad Lamont ran such a crappy campaign. Joe is correct on GLBT issues – today. Unfortunately, there is no recall provision in CT.

  45. Mark701 says:

I wonder if he’s one of the 151 members of Congress that recieves Medicare?

  46. maxamillion says:

Hey President Obama and the rest of you Democrats who supported Joe over Lemont, how is that workingout for ya? Joe walks around and pops off whenever he wants and what happens NOTHING!!! He is basically saying “F-U”!!!!

  47. ralph the wonder llama says:

I’d really like to hear more things like this from Senate Democrats:

“[Lieberman] still wants to be a part of the Democratic Party although he is a registered independent,” Harkin said. “He wants to caucus with us and, of course, he enjoys his chairmanship of the [Homeland Security] committee because of the indulgence of the Democratic Caucus. So, I’m sure all of those things will cross his mind before the final vote.”

    Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA)

  48. Bobwurst says:

So, President Obama, Hillary, Bill, et al. Still happpy you campaigned for him and undercut the will of the democratic voters of Conn?

  49. Bobwurst says:

You beat me to the punch Max.

  50. pags2 says:

If Lieberman votes for the filibuster, the Dems in the Senate are probably going to strip Lieberman of his committee chairmanship. He needs to really think about the things he is saying because he may be facing another Democratic controlled Congress after 2010. If his vote is not needed because the Dems lose a couple seats, then it is highly likely Lieberman will be kicked from the Dem caucus.

  51. ralph the wonder llama says:

pags2, Lieberman’s vote is clearly not needed anyway, because he can’t be depended upon. He has shown zero party loyalty, and repays Senate Dems for allowing him to retain his seniority by stabbing them in the back on the most high-profile issue they’ve got on the table.

Lieberman should be dumped from the caucus the minute the votes for health care reform are recorded, his chairmanship revoked and his seniority stripped.

  52. dutchman says:

Ralph, you are correct that “all incumbents are bad” is just as indiscrimating on some occasions and almost as bad as a straight party ticket. In my state, ALL the “unrepresentatives” we have support everything I am against. So my personal goal for 2010 is “No incumbents for 2010″. Just for clarifcation, my state allows its citizens to register to vote as “no party affiliation” which is how I am registered. From the comments I have read, there are a lot of Jim Jones types, sheep, or lemmings willing to follow their Party right over the cliff.

  53. Marie says:

Traitor Joe is 67 years old — he is collecting Medicare?
If the Senate health care plan works like the others, his primary insurance carrier is whoever the congress has and his secondary insurance (the one that picks up whatever the other doesn’t cover) is Medicare, which pays the rest.

Unless the bastard’s insurance from the congress pays 100% of everything and he doesn’t need Medicare at all – but it doesn’t work that way for anyone else.

  54. MapleStreet says:

I’m starting an office pool on when the Dems will finally wise up on Lieberman.

The slot of “never” is already taken.

  55. ralph the wonder llama says:

Fine, dutchman, but you still seem to be clinging to your own lazily undiscriminating political ethos.

    Good luck with that.

And do you find that barging in a room and broadly insulting the people already gathered there frequently garners the reaction you’re seeking?

  56. USCKitty says:

They’ll probably send a stern letter at best and ask him pretty please don’t stab us in the back again. We won’t strip you of your committee chairmanship…

Lieberman: what a worthless lying vile corporate pig.

  59. dutchman says:

If I can get one “mindless minion” to pause and THINK then that is the reaction I am seeking. If they are insulted, so be it. I just don’t get the “collective” mentality, nor do I wish to.

  60. Virtual Pebble says:

Lieberman really needs to be leaned on, hard, and kept out of the loop on Democratic strategy and tactics. If he quits trying to play the Democrats and quits siding with the Republipimps, fine, but until then, he should be out in the cold.

And if he decides to be a good Congresscritter, it needs to be in writing or witnessed by several senior caucus members. No fracking “gentleman’s” verbal agreements between Reid and Joe alone.

  61. kennethetucker says:

Since we’re just a week shy of ‘hot stove league’ wheeling and dealing in baseball i think it’s (well past) time to consider ‘trading’ Traitor Joe LIE-berman, or just give him his unconditional ‘release’.

Either way, it’s time to relieve TJ of his seniority, committee chairs, and caucus status. Enough already, Reid.

I think , to save/pass HCR, we can ‘trade’ Joe for a Voinovich (’walking’ at the end of his term (2010), perhaps Sherrod Brown and Ohio can make a case for him to vote to NOT filibuster anyway. Short-term deal, but what the hay, or maybe, Collins of ME. Tho freshly re-elected she’s pragmatic AND a from a state that can/will benefit from HCR.

Regardless, anyone NOT voting to end filibuster should be stripped, and notified of that up front. Furthermore, Mr. Obama, let’s get on the phone and/or request face-to-face meetings with any wavering Dems AND all the R-Idiots.

face-to-face ‘em and tell ‘em: “You’re either with us or agin’ us.”

45,000 people die/yr w/o HC and 45,000 more will die next year w/o HCR > that’s REAL ‘terrorism’, every day, in AmeriKa.

    Peace

  62. ralph the wonder llama says:

Well, dutchman, if you think insults are the way to get one of the “mindless minions” to r”pause and THINK” then I guess you’re on to something. It strikes me as a singularly ineffective way to reach the folks you seek to convince, but that’s me.

Besides, I guess if you can incite others to treat you like an ignorant troll, then you can just write it off as evidence of the “collective” mentality you claim to not get.

    Either way, you win, right?

  63. eyesopen says:

If there is a limit to the affrontery that the Democratic caucus will tolerate from this miserable little quisling, it doesn’t seem to have yet been breached. His behavior is the strongest argument I have ever seen to resurrect the nineteenth century phenomenon of physical beatings being administered on Capitol Hill.

The Democrats, however, must, at a minimum, deal with this hardly American rat bastard in such a manner that his filthy disloyalty becomes a decidedly unappealing model for others to imitate.

  64. Bozo The Neoclown says:

Joe LIEberman’s my senator and as one of his constituents i got something to say to him: go fcuk yourself, scumbag.

  65. Hutchbilly says:

The GOP doesn’t trust Lieberman, either, but as long as he pesters the democrats while holding top committee positions, they will live with him. But just remember how long it took for the GOP to make Zell Miller Persona non grata after his convention speech….the next night suddenly the prime GOP booths had no space for him. Joe thinks he is a crafty politician, but he is just a tool.
Dems, strip him of his command position if he votes to hold up health care reform. The GOP will give him nothing in return for his “loyalty.”

  66. pags2 says:

    ralph the wonder llama says:
pags2, Lieberman’s vote is clearly not needed anyway……

At this point they need his vote on many other issues. After 2010 his vote may become unnecessary to pass legislation. However, this health care vote may become Lieberman’s downfall because if the public option fails, there are a lot of Dem senators that are going to be PO’d. They may remove him from his committee chairmanship to punish him.

  67. dutchman says:

Not trying to convince anybody in this herd. It would be pointless. Just observing the shite coming out the arse on this thread. Had a momentary loss of judgement when I jumped into the shite with my observations. Pardon me while I take a shower and wash the crap off and disinfect.
