In his Washington Post column late last month, George Will revealed that Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) was once Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson’s babysitter:
When [Bachmann] was a teenager in Anoka, Minn., she was a nanny for a young girl named Gretchen Carlson. Today, Carlson, a Stanford honors graduate who studied at Oxford, is a host of “Fox & Friends,” the morning show on — wouldn’t you know — Fox News Channel. See how far ahead the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy plans?
This morning, the pair reunited on-air as Carlson teed up a couple of softball questions, allowing her former nanny to talk at length about her upcoming corporate-sponsored health care protest this Thursday on Capitol Hill.
During the Fox infomercial “interview,” Bachmann employed her usual colorful, over-the-top commentary to decry health reform. The health care vote is the “Super Bowl of freedom,” she said, and voters must mobilize to defeat the Democrats’ “crown jewel of socialism.” Watch it:
Bachmann urged “real freedom-loving Americans come here to Washington” on Thursday, and “look at the whites of their eyes of their members of Congress and say, ‘don’t you remember? I told you don’t take away my health care.’”
As Rachel Maddow observed last night, this is the “rhetoric of revolutionary violence.” “The ‘whites of your eyes’ reference is that you’re supposed to wait and see the whites of someone’s eyes before you shoot at them,” Maddow noted. “That’s where we get that phrase from — from when to shoot at people.”
Corporate control of “we the people’s” health care = the Superbowl of freedom?
Do these clowns even hear themselves?
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:03 pmAnother day of “fair and balanced” propaganda and radical advocacy from the anti-American faux news group.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:07 pmspin_hater says,
They think they’re clever.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:08 pmI don’t know what’s more pathetic — the fact that Bachmann has to misuse the word “freedom” to sell her lame talking points, or her mangling of the “whites of their eyes” expression.
But this is Bachmann we’re talking about, and expecting any kind of brain to be connected to the mouth is expecting too much.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:11 pmBachmann urged “real freedom-loving Americans come here to Washington” on Thursday, and “look at the whites of their eyes of their members of Congress” ……
Ummm , does that mean that no one can speak to Cry-Baby Boehner and his liquor-fueled bloodshot eyes ?
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:12 pmBachmann should have stuck with her Nanny career.
It’s obvious grown up issues are way over her head.
It does explain, however, what happened to Gretchen at an early age.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:13 pmJust what Gretchen study at Stanford and Oxford? how to turn on the runway? These two are shameful!
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:13 pm“Super Bowl of freedom.”
“Crown jewel of socialism.”
Little Shelley must have a random phrase generator that she consults before she goes off on her rants.
Well, two can play that game.
I suggest that we call her little Thursday meet-up the “Circle Jerk of Obstructionism”. Frankly, I doubt that enough people will show up to even make much of a circle.

I thought the “Crown Jewel of Socialism” was Lenin’s Politburo whoopie cushion, studded with 5000 cubic zironiums (or zirconia), currently being exhibited in the basement of the Dneperpetrovsk Oblast Museum. Must be my mistake.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:19 pmSuper Bowl of Freedom, being hosted by the World Cup of Whacked Out Teabaggers.
And, spin_hater,
I’m sure they can hear themselves. Hearing and listening are two very different processes.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:20 pmCarlson was graduated from Stanford University, in 1990, with a self-designed degree in the field of organizational behavior. While a student at Stanford, she studied abroad at Oxford University.
I always believed acting like a complete dipshit was more disorganized than organized …….
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:20 pm9 – deficits don’t matter – get with the program!

Well on 9/12 the teabaggers did say they “came unarmed this time”
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:22 pmLittle Gretchie is a good example of the old bromide: “You can take the girl out of the beauty queen pageant. But you can’t take the drama queen out of the girl.”
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:23 pmBachmann urged “real freedom-loving Americans come here to Washington” on Thursday
Real freedom-loving Americans wouldn’t have kept quiet when they passed the Patriot Act.
Just saying…
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:25 pmLuis Chapulin M @16
They wouldn’t have sat quiet while Dick Cheney shat all over the Constitution either.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:28 pmBatshitmann: I told you don’t take away my health care.’”
What? The Democrats want to what? Take it away? I could have sworn they wanted to expand health care coverage. Michelle, check your medication, please!
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:28 pmWhy do we, the owners of the airwaves, have to be harrased hourly by the tiny minority that aligns themselves with this minority. Every day, it’s what Rush said, what Beck said, what Hannity said–they are the story. And it’s on every other channel, in every paper and on every blog. So much for the liberal bias in the media and majority rule.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:30 pmThe “Superbowl of Freedom” sounds like a great opportunity for corporate slaves to show their appreciaton for their masters.

Look, isn’t this somehow illegal? Can a ‘News Organization’ acually do this? I remember when Bill Bennett got slamed because he was a political anaylist employed by CNN but he was contrbuting to Republican campaigns. As for Bachman, the woman is a train-wreck. If she survives re-election, the people in her district are complete morons.

“IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR DARLING INSURANCE COMPANY, KEEP IT!!”
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:37 pmI think she’s asking where you were during the 8 years of the bush administration. Odd that you are “suddenly” concerned.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 pmFor nearly two decades, Wendell Potter led a very comfortable life as a public relations health insurance executive.
However, while flying on a corporate jet and being served lunch on gold-rimmed china with gold-plated cutlery, Potter had an epiphany of sorts.
He realised that the reason why millions of Americans were without health insurance or under-insured was because: “Our Wall Street-driven healthcare system has created one of the most inequitable healthcare systems on the planet.”
This June, Potter left his well-paid and secure job at CIGMA, one of the US’s largest health insurance companies, and has spoken out in favour of healthcare reform.

November 3rd, 2009 at 1:43 pmIf these asshats get in the way of me driving in to work on Thursday, I may just have to gently remind them why it is that we want healthcare reform in this country… I can be quite persuasive when I need to…
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:43 pmOkay, the fact that Gretchen Carlson hired a young Michele Bachmann to babysit speaks volumes for her judgment and perhaps her intelligence.
Although, to be fair, Shelly may not have been quite so batshit crazy back in them days.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:43 pmThis reunion just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. NOT! Actually, it makes me think about fragging, napalm, and fire throwers.

It was Dick Cheney who gloated that defecits don’t matter. If they did matter to the GOP wouldn’t the two wars we are in have been included in the budget? Oh they weren’t? If defecits mattered to the GOP then why were they all trying so hard to convince Americans for a year that we WEREN’T in a recession? Don’t worry cupcake. The Democrats have fixed the Repubs economic disasters throughout the last century and will continue to clean up their messes.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:52 pmYou know, I expect this kind of nonsense out of a fruit loop like bachmann, but what’s really disheartening is that there are many intellectually disabled people that honestly belive this hooey. I give it to the republicans, they have certainly made a significant contribution to the dumbing down of America. Sane and intelligent people are or should be offended by this tripe. It speaks so poorly of our country.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:58 pmReich-wing terrorists will figure out a way to blame the Left.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:08 pmAnoka MN is known as the Halloween Capital of the World. They have their witch quota.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:08 pmFirst off.. we only figuratively ‘owe’ China.. we sell off our debt in the form of treasury bonds.. but yes, it functions the same way.
China has been a big one lately to claim as our debtor.. although as of only last year, Japan was actually the largest holder of these bonds.
I haven’t seen a recent figure – but as of may 2009 we ‘owe’ China 772 billion.
Our debt to GDP ratio is actually smaller than a large number of developed nations. – as of 2007 we ranked 23rd. I doubt that has changed much since all nations went through the recession together – and all developed nations had a stimulus of some type. China’s was larger than our own.
The deficit is a problem.. but a problem common to most countries.. not simply our own. In many cases they are far worse off. Our debt could be paid down if we truly pursued it.. obviously now is not the best time. China also is guilty of manipulating it’s currency to inflate these numbers.
The Federal Reserve owns half of this debt (49.37%)
Foreign entities own about a quarter (27.90%)
Let’s try focusing on the truth.. rather than just fear.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:08 pm“fair and Balanced” about as credible as gretchen carlson’s hair color……(or her claim of being informed and intelligent). Zero

November 3rd, 2009 at 2:13 pmMemo to “PursueTruth “…
Insurance corps bloated profits along with their denial of coverage to people and their stingy denial of payments to doctors is not manipulation. Maybe you need surgery to remove your head from your butt……oooh…..too bad….to expensive….too bad you’re not covered.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:16 pmShe sure references to violence alot…
….but then she is a repuke and they do love violence, death and destruction.
Sick skank.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:18 pmand if you want to look at debt… ‘conservatives… then let’s really look at it -
here are the debt increases from 2001 through 2008
2001 $144.5 billion 1.4%
2002 $409.5 billion 3.9%
2003 $589.0 billion 5.5%
2004 $605.0 billion 5.3%
2005 $523.0 billion 4.3%
2006 $536.5 billion 4.1%
2007 $459.5 billion 3.4%
2008 $1017.0 billion
our recent spending is an attempt to reverse the trend.. it’s always so humorous that after 500 to 600 billion a year for all of Bushes years.. and reduced revenue from tax cuts on the rich as well…. now you are suddenly concerned.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:28 pmI abhor violence but, if they aren’t going to censure Crazy Shelly I find myself wishing that someone would punch her square in the nose.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:34 pmPursue Truth….
Does it bother you that Insurance companies are spending Millions if not Billions of dollars to defeat Health Care reform?
These millions and billions come from the premiums that you and I pay to them to pay for your health care costs and my health care costs. These millions and Billions that they are spending to defeat this measure and contribute to buy Senators and Representatives in our Congress could be going to pay for a child’s cancer in Wyoming, or Doug Holtz-Eakin’s premiums for his pre-existing condition, or someone’s gallbladder surgery in New York, your mother’s alzheimer’s medicine so that she can remember you…
If you haven’t learned anything from history (namely the Nixon Administration) learn this: Follow the money to see who benefits…
Don’t be fooled by Republican talking points, they played ( and continue to play) the Two Santa Clauses theory on you and you fell for it.

Alej, whenever you want to stop using socialism for anything that is a move away from from what you describe as an unregulated free market economy then maybe you can be taken seriously.
The truth is that what you profess is a myth.
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:10 pmAlej, what don’t you look up your @ss?
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:18 pmYou might find the crown jewels.

November 3rd, 2009 at 3:19 pmAlej, the snappy comeback clock is running, better hurry.
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:20 pmActually, we’re the ones who should be looking for the whites of their eyes. We’re dealing with a pack of pseudo-con brain dead zombies, so there’s always the chance of being bitten by one. Therefore, you should always look at their eyes to make sure they’re white and not yellow; you don’t want to get hepatitis if you accidently get chomped while dealing a rationalizing dopeslap to one – just standing a few feet away and yelling “sober up, arse” doesn’t work; you actually have to close in and pop them one whilst yelling “wake up, fool”.
Be careful out there.
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:38 pmIf Jesus came back to earth and didnt charge people for healing they would crucify him and call him a socialist.

November 3rd, 2009 at 5:55 pmKenneth:
At this point, I don’t trust any of them.
Please re-read my post, I didn’t assert “that a deficit neutral plan cannot exist”. The point was the disgusting inadequacy of the current plan not even attempting to address medicare’s current $38 Trillion unfunded liabilities.
I’m very eager for anyone’s contribution on the topic. But to not appear completely uninformed yourself, you’ll need to “back up your assertion” as to how the game is over my (and the GAO’s) head. The principles and math seem quite trivial, to anyone not trying to ignore the obvious.
Perhaps there’s something you don’t understand that I could help with?

My GOD you are stupid. You dont see any capitalism anywhere? I guess you are just flat out too stupid and brainwashed to know what capitalism is. So why dont you just STFU and let the adults talk? Mkay?

November 4th, 2009 at 2:47 amThe use of the word “freedom” is used like the words “American people”. Catchall words that are void of meaning against the backdrop of corporatism and greed that defines Bachmann and her ilk.
