Limbaugh blames Newt Gingrich for screwing up the NY special election.

Yesterday, Bill Owens scored an historic victory by becoming the first Democrat in more than a century to win a congressional election in upstate New York’s 23rd district. Owens’ victory was a defeat for many prominent leaders of the conservative movement, particularly Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. In the lead-up to the election, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had engaged in a public brouhaha with Beck over his support for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman’s candidacy. Gingrich complained that Beck, Limbaugh, and company were pursuing “a very destructive model for the Republican Party,” and those concerns appear to have been vindicated by the outcome of Tuesday’s election. Nevertheless, Limbaugh is blaming Gingrich for the conservative’s defeat:

Here is — these are my thoughts on New York-23. … We cannot forget how this whole thing happened in the first place. There was not a primary. The right message here would indict the way party bosses, Republican Party bosses and these big thinkers like Newt screwed the whole thing up from the get go.

Listen here:

The war between Newt and Rush extends back to earlier this year, when Limbaugh said Gingrich was tearing apart the conservative movement by trying to embrace “better policy ideas.” Gingrich had argued that the “era of Reagan is over,” and that Republicans needed more than simply being the “party of no.” Limbaugh is of course quite comfortable with the “party of no” status.

I’m glad they’re finally going at it. Newt is about the only one who won’t back down from Limbaugh. This could become epic. :)

  2. Marie says:

    This could be entertaining.

  3. Marie says:

As much as I despise Gingrich and everything he represents, he is a savvy politician; Lintball is an inflammatory bloviator. I doubt Newt will let the drugster win this one.

  4. Bozo The Neoclown says:

no, tub-o-lard, what “screwed up” the special election was allowing the citizens of wingmuttia (palin and boo-hoo becky) decend upon the place and scare off the moderate contender.

  5. P.D. says:

What an idiot. If Limpballs and Palin and the rest of their Right-wings fanatics DIDN’T hijack the election Dede what’s her name would have won. But hey, If they want to blame Newt, go ahead…. The GOP civil War continues……

That a knife in your back, Newt?

When Newt F***ing Gingrich becomes a “voice of reason” within the GOP, you just know the wheels have come off the Wingnut Bus.

    Sweet! LOL

  9. Harold Melvin says:

Btw, why does Limbaugh wear the same shirt to work every day?

    – - Party leaders? Oh, like GOP Chairman Michael Steele. Strike a pose, Mikey.

  12. texasrick says:

The far right keeps trying to PURIFY the party…isn’t this what the Nazi’s did?

    Answer = YES

Yet these freaking idiots try portraying the President as the danger. How the hell does anyone support these morons?

  13. Bozo The Neoclown says:

    oooooooo,
behold the strength of the new “cancervative party”. they managed to lose a district that hasn’t had a democrat for their representative in 100 years. tub-o-lard and boo-hoo becky could screw up a wet dream.

  15. USNclerk says:

Limbaugh is of course quite comfortable with the “party of no” status.
Unless it’s saying no to food. Is it me, or is this drug-addled blob getting fatter?

  16. EnnuiDivine says:

Of COURSE Limbaugh would attack Gingrich. Gingrich may be a hyper-partisan, hypocrite, bloated windbag…but he’s got a sharp political mind.

What Limbaugh and the teabaggers don’t understand, and what they’ll never understand, is that ideological purity doesn’t win elections. Gingrich believed in the right candiate for the right district, and the local GOP (which was a hell of a lot more involved in the politics of the region than Limbaugh) chose a well-liked, moderate-to-progressive Republican. One who was generally fiscally conservative and generally socially liberal. A nice fit the district.

Limbaugh and the teabaggers aren’t the only ones to blame for the decline of the GOP; worthless hacks like Gingrich and Steele, who are so tone deaf (EMP attack against North Korea, bombing Iran, “urban-suburban flavah”) they cannot begin to fathom just WHY the GOP brand has only 20% or so favourability bear much of the burden of failure and stench of defeat.

  17. SP Biloxi says:

“Limbaugh blames Newt Gingrich for screwing up the NY special election.”

LMAO Priceless. El Rushbo throws King Solomon Newt under the bus. It will be entertaining for both Newt and Rush to duke it out like sumo wrestlers.

Tell me about it. His side-fat is starting to hang over to the FM stations.

  19. Wiz says:

The radical right is out to destroy any non-Palin approved Republican leaders. What are they going to do when she doesn’t run? If she can’t take the pressure of being Governor of Alaska how can she possibly put a Presidential campaign together? She is only in it to fill her pocket.

  20. Bozo The Neoclown says:

i whole heartedly support the teabagger’s new plan to “purify” the party. scare off the moderates and lose the election. keep up the good work, wingnuts

  21. Dr. Hussein Matt says:

Teabagging hicks are de-evolving right before our eyes. They are sinking into oblivion. They will be nothing but a regional party of idiots restricted to the deep south and Utah. Amen!

  22. hellinabucket says:

EnnuiDivine, that side fat comment was brilliant.

  23. USNclerk says:

    @18.
Hey Ennui, I just realized something. In this article, pay attention to the camera angle, they stopped doing close-ups on him. Maybe because the camera can’t get any closer? what do you think?

  24. Marie says:

    LibertyLover –
The butter for the popcorn is being melted as we speak.

  25. Wiz says:

This NY 23 race could not have turned out better. Obama starts a chain of events by appointing a Republican congressman Secretary of the Army, a Republican civil war starts, and the Democrats pick up the seat.

  26. Comrade Rutherford says:

This is how far to the right America has been forcibly dragged by the Republican Party.

12 years AFTER the crazies rigged the 1980 election and had Saint Reagan installed, Newt Gingrich comes along and gleefully shuts down Congress in a huge temper tantrum until he gets his way (which the Dems were eager to provide).

Now, 18 years after that Newt Gingrich is described by his own party as a ‘moderate’.

This isn’t funny. The ‘teabaggers’ are serious about murdering their neighbors (that’s us!) because Republicans aren’t winning every election.

There was a quote in the local Upstate New York newspaper about one guy that went to a teabagger event and left in disgust because they were ‘too slow’. This man was quoted as saying that he prefers direct violence saying he’s a civil war kind of guy.

America has a very big problem: Fox, Savage, Beck, Malkin, Limbaugh, et al, are actively promulgating their followers into violence. Their rhetoric is condoning mass murder. These yahoos that sport a ‘liberal hunting permit’ are NOT joking. They (if you ever haver talked to one of them) eagerly await Limbaugh’s consent to start shooting their neighbors.

Since the Main Stream Media is actively participating in this by playing along with Fox, there will be outright mass murder by or immediately after the 2012 elections.

Palin’s church openly calls for the overthrow of America and setting up a religious dictatorship exactly like the Taliban. Palin was almost Vice-President.

The far-right extremists are being handed more and more control over all aspects of this nation. Obama and the Democrats are complicit in this, as evidenced by their refusal to fight back against GOP extremism.

We have only a limited time to deal with this before it’s just too late and the crazies come gunning for you and your families.

  27. Jackie says:

The Republican Leader Rush Limbaugh has spoken and Newt only has hope of the VP spot now. Just think someone has to take the blame for a failed GOP candidate. One might look to it being the fault of Hoffman’s mentor Glenn Beck.

  28. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Hey, Rush. What ever happened to the conservative mantra of “Individual Freedom, Individual Responsibility”? Why are you blaming someone else for Hoffman’s defeat? Shouldn’t Hoffman be the only one to blame here?

BTW, did it occur to you, Rush, that Hoffman was a poor choice to represent that district, anyway? I mean, he didn’t know anything about the issues that mattered to the people who lived in that district (of which he was not one, though he doesn’t have to be).

  29. RUCerious says:

Whoa there Oxycontinaddict! We all know mooselips Palin showing up jinxed the bejeezus out of this election.
Newt didn’t help any, but you should apoligize.
    On your knees.

  30. USNclerk says:

    @26.
I agree these morons are not helping things. but I very much doubt these so-called “liberal hunters” will have the balls to open up on liberals just because the talking heads ok it.

  31. The Dogfather says:

Since Newtie endorsed Hoffman after Scozzafava dropped out, is LimpBizkit saying that Newtie screwed the whole thing up by endorsing a republican? Would he rather have had Newtie endorse Owens?

Never mind; trying to make sense of whatever this blowhard says can only lead you to insanity…

  32. texasrick says:

    #26 Comrade

    Nice job!!

  33. Dave N says:

Gingrich had argued that the “era of Reagan is over,” and that Republicans needed more than simply being the “party of no.

I hate to admit this, but the slimy, large-headed toad is correct.

    Any more popcorn left??

If it lasts more than 4 hours they better call the doctor. He already lost his hearing.

  35. RUCerious says:

So would those mega globules of fat hanging down over his belt be accurately labeled ‘hate handles’??

  36. Xisithrus says:

Palin’s church openly calls for the overthrow of America and setting up a religious dictatorship exactly like the Talib

But but but “Variety is the spice of life!”

  37. USNclerk says:

    @34.
shayne, i think you may be giving Rushbo there a little too much credit. I doubt he even remembers what that bit of anatomy looks like. Probably hasn’t seen it in years.

  38. paleolib says:

Typical wingnut “logic”. They get their ideologically pure right winger one on one against a Democrat in a district comprised mostly of counties that had a Whig in congress more recently than a Dem, manage to lose a not particularly close race because a lot of Republican-leaning voters didn’t like the right wing guy (who doesn’t even live in the district by the way) and somehow this is someone else’s fault? No wonder they can smile while Reagan triples the debt and Bush doubles it again then scream bloody murder in Obama’s first year about spending.

  39. ralph the wonder llama says:

You’re absolutely right, Rush! It’s all Newt’s fault. Him and his cynical “appeal to the largest number of voters” ideas. Don’t you listen to him!

Republics have been losing because they weren’t conservative enough! And don’t you worry if it doesn’t work next year, or in 2012 either. It will only be because there will still be RINOs in your midst. You must purge them! Every last one of them!

For the sake of America, Rush You must make the Republic Party SMALLER and more pure! Only YOU can do it!!!

  40. Dr. Hussein Matt says:

Those teabaggers that are salivating at the thought of a civil war need to remember these words: Liberals are armed too.

  41. Briseadh na Faire says:

Well, Newt, how does it feel like to get thrown off you own bus?

  42. Xisithrus says:

The crazies are dying off like hairy elephants in a sauna.

  43. bandit09 says:

Keep firing away Rush, blaming this on Gingrich will have the effect of inserting a “wedge issue” right in the middle of a GOP that is strongly in need of something to unify it. Hating Obama won’t work.

I like to see the repubs in trouble but when the far right outweigh the Lincoln Republicans what you end up with a bunch of wing nuts who can’t pour pee out of a boot with the directions written on the heel. (See Geo W Bush)

  44. ralph the wonder llama says:

shayne, i think you may be giving Rushbo there a little too much credit. I doubt he even remembers what that bit of anatomy looks like. Probably hasn’t seen it in years.

Rush complained to his wife “I haven’t seen Little Rush in years.”

His wife said, “Why don’t you diet”?

Rush replied, “Dye it? What color is it now?”

  45. ralph the wonder llama says:

    Ba-dum-bum.

I’ll be here all week. Remember to tip your trolls.

  46. EnnuiDivine says:

    USN,

I think if the camera tried moving in any closer, it would be sucked into his gut by the force of his gravitational pull.

Also, they say the camera adds 10lbs…

    Briseadh na Faire says:

Well, Newt, how does it feel like to get thrown off you own bus?

It was a short bus, wasn’t it?

  48. MapleStreet says:

So despite Limbaugh interjecting himself as another cook (as in too many cooks spoil the broth), he is still blameless ?

  49. Xisithrus says:

Hoffman wasnt electable. Why do they think if they rant and rave and run around screamy head people would have voted for them?

Intimidation is not a viable political tactic in todays age

  50. EnnuiDivine says:

Nothing like a little kitsch on a slow Wednesday afternoon

  51. Dave N says:

    @Ennui #50

I have to look up kitsch, but I agree with you.

  52. USNclerk says:

@44. Ok, now that I hurt myself falling out of my chair. Ralph, that’s twice today you’ve had me glad I wasn’t drinking something when you post.

  53. Xisithrus says:

I guess Newt was also responsible for Limbaughs “Operation Chaos” failure.

  54. hellinabucket says:

Rush blames Newt. Just another example of the pudding for brains this man has. Newt had nothing to do with Hoffman. A man that wasn’t from the district and wasn’t up to speed with the concerns of that district. And the district showed Rush, Hoffman, Beck, Palin and the rest that you aren’t going to use our votes to push someone else’s agenda.

  55. USNclerk says:

    @46
Ok, so he’s 510 and gaining. Is there a way to harness the energy of Rush? He’s like his own mini singularity. We could have all the power problems of the world solved if we could just figure out how to channel hate into energy.

  56. SoapBox says:

They like to eat their own!

And in Limpdong’s case, he eats a lot! Oh ya, he’s “skinny” now…Limpy, can you explain that? What? Drugs? Gastric bypass?

Oh…I see, as the leader of the Rushpubs, you don’t have to explain anything to anyone.

  57. USNclerk says:

Damn, Dave @51, I might have accidentally voted you down, my bad.

  58. Comrade Rutherford says:

    #30 USNclerk said,
“I very much doubt these so-called “liberal hunters” will have the balls to open up on liberals just because the talking heads ok it.”

And you would be very, very wrong. These folks can barely contain their murderous rage already. If they thought for a second that they would be allowed to get away with it they would start shooting today.

These people are not cowards, they are only waiting for the point at which they won’t be punished for it. And that time is coming sooner than later since the Dems are adamantly refusing to fight back and the media are not reporting on it.

  59. Dave N says:

USN @57: no sweat. For future reference, though…I was USN from 1984-88.

  60. USNclerk says:

@58. Then, as someone mentioned it earlier, liberals are armed too, and if they really want to divide the nation like this, then I will sadly oblige them.

  61. pags2 says:

This could be divine justice when Gingrich is purged by the same people he courted to become part of the Republican party in the 1980’s.

  62. Marie says:

Lintball was particularly offended (as if we would care!) when Olbermann and MSNBC used Rush’s bouncing body video from an appearance a few months ago. He has been on a diet for months (including pills, of course) and has lost some of those tubs of lard.
Unfortunately it had no effect on the blob of fat between his ears.

  63. Pennsylvanianne says:

Let the talking heads implode the party formerly known as Republican. Just goes to show you the only solidarity is between the ultraconservative Talibamericans. Capt. Owens’ election in NY-23 means ANOTHER DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN! This is of more importance.

  64. hellinabucket says:

Rush could lose all the extra tub o’ goo he totes, he’ll still be a big fat liar.

  65. pete says:

There is certainly cause for concern, Comrade Rutherford, but I don’t really think the facts back you up. I think it’s far more likely that we will continue to see lone wackos snapping one at a time, though a few may be able to bring a few over the edge with them.

The fact is that there isn’t a single leader that can claim a plurality within their own movement. The closest they have are media figures who don’t have the will to lead the mobs or the authority to command them.

Plus, as vile as the rhetoric has become, there is a genuine patriotism in the right-wingers and they won’t seriously contemplate violence unless they are starving. One can make a mob shout slogans over manufactured outrages but it usually takes real suffering to make them start shooting.

  66. P.D. says:

This is Poetic Justice. Newt and all the other Repugs didn’t denounce these guys when they had a chance. They let blow hards like Limpballs and Beck spew their crap when they thought they were scoring political points. Now, it backfired. I’m sure the GOP is reveling in their wins in VA and NJ, but it may be short lived if Beck, Palin and the other wing-nuts challenge every ‘Moderate’ they can find. All ready they are targeting Charlie Crist. Let them.

  67. Zimzone says:

    Rush’s rush is power.

He has all the money he’ll ever need & more.

Intense greed leads to an addiction for power.

    Newt’s need is attention.

He’s never had enough attention, & is still trying to get more.

If Newt had Rush’s voice, he’d be a power to reckon with.

If Rush had Newt’s intelligence, he’d be a power to reckon with.

Alas, they both come up one beer short of a 6 pack…

  68. noseeum says:

    Tush:
“Republican Party bosses and these big thinkers like Newt screwed the whole thing up from the get go.”

This would imply that he is a tiny thinker.

  69. Badger says:

Shots have Already been fired. Just ask Dr. Tiller’s family about it.

Make no mistake about it…one Huge reason that Ms. Scazafava was targeted….by Palin and her supporters in particular …is that Deedee was Pro Choice.
A lot of Pro Life footsoldiers are wearing tea bags.

Still, this will backfire just like the tragedy of Oklahoma City, if it keeps escalating.

The Militia Movement spent the Clinton Years in the Wilderness thanks to that Murderous Event.

  70. Purple State says:

    Dear Rush,

    You lost.

  71. Ape-Man says:

Rush ‘Archie Bunker’ Limbaugh is the future of the Republican party. I don’t think Newt is full blown bigoted enough for today’s Republican.

  72. Shayne says:

He has to blame Newt otherwise he, Beck and Palin have to take the blame.

  73. pete says:

    Badger,

It’s sadly true. Ask the police officers in Pennsylvania or the guard at the Heritage Museum too, to name just a few. But we are still talking about the fringe of the fringe. The mere fact that we are discussing the possibility lessens the risk of armed uprisings.

  74. Mr. Sonia Herecomestheangst says:

Whomever had the ticket of “Newt to lead a resistance to take back to GOP from neocon media tyrants” in the How it will go down in 2010 election pool, you just won $1 million!

  75. 5th Estate says:

I just heard/read that Obama’s agenda will lead to crazy hairy elephant death panels run by the Sauna Czar of NY-23!!!

Beulah, fetch me my teabags! I’m taking the short bus to Warshington!!!

  76. Ape-Man says:

If the Republican party, lead by limbaugh, goes balls out fascist, then they will be forced underground. When that happens does that make them a terrorist organization? If they continue to call out their violent edicts and fatwas through FOX News?

  77. John Reed says:

Totsky and Lenin had a falling out too. It happens.

  78. Virtual Pebble says:

Well, of course Newt screwed it up, Blimpo. Newt’s a saboteur, a wrecker, and a loose cannon. Ya oughta throw him outta the party. He’s only a mediocre Republipimp, not completely fracking over the edge.

  79. Harold Melvin says:

77, John Reed, so did Napoleon and Snowball. And just like Newt and Rushbo they were both fat pigs.

  80. Wiz says:

Newt and Palin are big losers here, Newt for endorsing the Republican who endorsed the Democrat, and Palin for endorsing the loser.

  81. John Reed says:

    Totsky = Trotsky.

  82. maxamillion says:

I love this repbulican cannibalism. Beck and Hannity should be coming in soon to take a bite out of Newts fat ass.

  83. Marie says:

#71 Ape Man — while I agree with you, I remember that Archie Bunker epitomized the uninformed voter – the racist who doesn’t realize his own bigotry – the guy who votes on a single issue with a narrow focus – under-educated, and he is indeed the target pandered by the repugs.
Limbaugh, OTOH, is a self-centered blowhard who is smart enough to know the target audience.

    Cuz he tasted like sh*t…

  87. majii says:

Since Newtie, Becky Boy, Falin, Huckie, Peelenty, and Limpaw are duking it out for control of the Republican Party, it could turn out the following way:

Newtie wants to run for POTUS in 2102 and so does Falin, Peelenty, and Huckie. Newtie gets the fringers’ ire up, and Palin gets the moderate republicans’ ire up. Huckie and Peelenty move to the center-right, caught in the middle, trying to satisfy both ends of the party. Becky Boy and Limpaw stir up things from the sidelines, assisted by rw talking heads/politicians and Fuchs Noose.

    Neither wins the GOP nomination.

Prediction: Some darkhorse GOP candidate wins.

  90. What the GOP REALLY means ... says:

Notice the insistence of my party that a couple of statewide elections are a referendum on Obami when we lost both federal elections that would have given us a chance to play off the narrative of “standing up to ObamaCare’s socialist agenda.”

Aren’t we f ucking stupid? We know how to pluck Limbaugh’s ass hairs one-by-one with our teeth.

  91. What the GOP REALLY means ... says:

If Hoffman had used Crest whitestrips, you libs would have been down. You libs would have been finished, down and out.

We had our civil war seat hijacked by ACORN.

F uck it. I’ll fess up – we pissed off the locals and affirmed the GOP resume still gets thrown in the trash. Two pages of NO would never win you an interview in the fwee marketplace.

  98. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Newt issued an apology on the Sean Hannity show tonight for backing the liberal Republican candidate.

That would strongly suggest that Newt doesn’t consider himself to be a Republican.

That’s okay, I don’t consider him to be a human being.

  99. Mark701 says:

I am beginning to think that the folks that will take the Limbaughs, Hannity and Becks down will not be liberals or progressives but moderate Republicans. One has to assume that even the ultra right reptilian brain will recognize that the talking bobble heads were wrong.
