Michael Steele and Rep. Mike Pence to host a 12-hour online health care town hall called ‘Pelosi Plan Exposed.’

Today, the Republican National Committee (RNC) sent out a press release announcing that Chairman Michael Steele and Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) will be hosting a 12-hour online town hall called “Pelosi Plan Exposed” tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to Friday 1:00 a.m. ET. The intent of the forum is to “expose the 12 truths of Nancy Pelosi’s health care bill” and promote the “Republican alternative.” Topics include “your money,” “the culture of life,” “taxes,” and “families and women.”

Pelosi Plan Exposed

In his video announcement, Pence said that he and his House colleagues “will present an interactive broadcast marathon on the Democrats’ plans to launch a government takeover of health care. We’ll take your calls, answer your tweets, and talk to people on the street.” Watch it:

Maybe they’ll explain why they’re in favor of allowing insurers to deny people coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

I wonder if it’ll be “off the hook”?

  2. Dr. Hussein Matt says:

At 6 pm all the teabagging terrorists will be shutting down their computers to tune into Glenda.

  3. Dave N says:

What’s the over/under on how many of the “12 Truths” are really truths?

  4. sscncturn64 says:

So its pretty much a twelve hour bullsht session.

  5. COProgressive says:

Otherwise called the “Repuglican Healthcare Propaganda Smear” brought to you by the RNC and AHIP.

Sometimes doing “NOthing” really works……. for us.

  6. raynman says:

Let me guess, 11 hours 58 minutes of Pelosi/Obama Evil Socialists hellbent on World Domination…. and two minutes of the Republican Plan

  7. hellinabucket says:

    I’ll be calling.

  8. laprofesora says:

By the way the phrase “culture of life” makes me want to scream. As if denying people health care is consistent with a concern for life. As if everyone but the RepubliSCUMs has a total disregard for life itself. As if the party of NO actually cares about anything but getting back in power, even if it means stepping over your cold, dead corpse.

  9. chrislvb says:

I have a feeling this is going to be the most entertaining 12 hours in political history. Everyone better go out tonight and buy lots of popcorn. We are going to need it.

Doesn’t this directly conflict with the protest planned for tomorrow in DC? I guess this will be their way of diverting attention away from the only 26 people that signed up on the protests website.

  10. EnnuiDivine says:

Mike Pence, another self-serving reactionary hypocrite, willing to lie and obstruct to further his own political ambitions. Expect him to run for either the Presidency (ahahahaha) or the potentially open Senate seat (Lugar’s not getting any younger. I think he’d be about 80) in 2012.

Beat me to it. Or maybe this is intended to dump Crazy Michelle because she’s getting too much attention.

  12. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

Yeah, I’ll be sure to tune into to that.

  13. Chyron HR says:

So now it’s “Pelosicare” instead of “Obamacare”?

Why aren’t they trying to tie health care reform to Obama anymore? I could have sworn last night’s election results “proved” that he is deeply unpopular with Americans.

  14. P.D. says:

People want Health Care reform. In every poll, in every state. These guys are deluding themselves if they think the people will want a bill that leaves out the poor and people with ‘Pre-existing’ conditions. And that is exactly what the Repugs want. Unreal.

  15. hellinabucket says:

Will this be like a Jerry Lewis telethon? I mean what the hell are they going to talk about at 3:30 am.

  16. lokidog says:

12 hours listening to these *ssholes? Are they serious?

I’d rather be waterboarded for 12 days.

Besides, how can you make the word “no” last for 12 hours?

  17. pags2 says:

Steele and Pence think that because the rubes believe the health care plan is a government takeover, they can sell the same line to the younger, more sophisticated people who use computers. Steele and Pence are going to be very disappointed.

  18. Shayne says:

Are they going to disclose who is sponsoring this blockbuster? I didn’t think so.

  19. latichever says:

Anyone who thinks MSNBC is the fox of the left must have missed Terence Rattigan’s totally softball interview of Mike Pence. It was totally shameful in not asking a single hard question. Why, Cris Wallace could have done that interview.

12 HOURS? It’s like a telethon of stupid.

  21. barfly says:

Can you smell the fear and desperation? They know if single payer passes, they will be politically irrelevant for the forseeable future, because their Chicken Little act didn’t fool anyone. Might one hope they might then begin telling the truth about issues?

    [snerk, yeah, right.]

  22. Shayne says:

While all the ignorant old farts are riding their buses around DC I guess it’s up to us to participate in this shindig.

  23. Zimzone says:

Sounds & looks just like a flea market in Indiana…

    Finger pointing & dithering

Is being a Republic considered a pre-existing condition?

  24. angels81 says:

I say we pass the word to all the blogs everyone goes to, and have everyone call. Progressives and Democrats should flood the phones, I know I’ll be calling.

  25. The Dogfather says:

Pence: “We’ll take your calls, answer your tweets, and talk to people on the street.

He left out: “Then we’ll smell your feet, change your sheets, and give you something good to eat.”

With amateurish stunts like this from the so-called leaders of the Party of No, it’s no wonder nothing’s getting done in Congress…

  26. barfly says:

This will work about as well as their overnight harangue on the House floor, a short while back.

    Did that effort succeed?

  28. The Dogfather says:

No matter anyway — since 98% of repugs don’t know how to use a computer, and this thing’s on the intertubes, they may as well just broadcast dead air…

Come to think of it, it’s likely that that’s exactly what they’ll be doing…

  29. P.D. says:

What are they going to do to fill the time? I know, invite on Tom Delay and have him shake his groove thing.

  30. Zimzone says:

I WANT energy independence AND MASSIVE efforts to permanently cut carbon emissions! I WANT liberal abortion laws, especially applied to wingnut conservatives!

    Etc.

  36. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

    Heh.

  38. texaslady says:

Could anyone explain how so many citizens can be so misled regarding healthcare ? We just got advised that our premiums have gone up, a hospitalization doubled and other services dropped from last year’s plan.
Are we the only ones this is happening to? How can anyone with commonsense be against reform ? I understand premiums and coverage vary plan by plan and state by state. However, I don’t believe we are the only ones facing higher costs and lower coverages.
We have absolutely NO representation in Texas but surely other states have a voice.

  39. Mr. Sonia Herecomestheangst says:

They’ll be lucky if this thing holds the attention of their audience for 12 minutes without this thing having to resort to cheap parlor tricks and stupid comedy.

    a) It’s not Pelosi’s Health Care Plan”

therefore…well that’s all one needs to know about this supposed “marathon” and its substance.

I guess having seen no significant dent in Obama’s figures (obvs he’s lost a few points with Dems more than anyone else)with their “ObmaCare = Senior/Veteran Genocide” meme, the Crapublicans need a new target for their nonsense so naturally they pick one of their old targets, Nancy Pelosi (who was incidentally just proven correct when she said that the CIA lied to her, for which the Crapublicans called her a liar).

    _____________________________________________________________

It’s “enrollment time” at my company, too. In order to continue providing us employees with health insurance benefits, my company suspended all pay raises this year, and the portion the employee has to pay has increased (of course, the portion the company pays has increased even more, which is why we’re not getting raises).

So, no raises and more taken out of our paychecks — the equivalent of a pay cut.

And the health insurance bloodsuckers are trying to tell me how much premiums are going to go up IF we get health care reform? It appears to me they’re continuing to skyrocket without it.

We need a public option. Now. We cannot continue to be at the mercy of the for-profit greedheads.

  45. MadasHelinVA says:

Why are constituents of Pence in favor of being denied insurance to anyone with pre-existing condition? Why are they in favor of private ‘for-profit’ insurers? Why are they in favor of keeping the ‘insurer middle men’ who are operating for GREED ONLY? Why are they so stoooopid as to support the billionaires of insurance?

Let’s hope they ask Pence how much money he received in campaign contributions from the insurance cartel!

Teaxs Lady & Miss Molly: Ditto here for my employer sponsored plan: bigger deductibles, bigger co-pays, higher premiums and no raise. It’s $1500 /year just for the basics, god help me if I need anything beyond a doctor visit or a shot.

    Maybe…it’s just me.

But I feel like I’m under attack.

From every twist…every turn…lying, lying, lying…the Rushpubs are in full fu*k’n attack and assault. And if it isn’t them, it’s their enablers at ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR and newspapers/sites all around the country (that just roll over and play dead to the RushTerrorists.)

I simply cannot believe what is going on with ALL these nut jobs…you’ve got Rushpubs at the national, state and local levels…you’ve got FauxNoise…you’ve got terrorist talk radio.

All the while…those of us that just want good…just want to be resonable and somewhat caring about our fellow man (and woman!) seem to be without representation. The leadership we have seem to be impotent…or non-existent. I look and look for anything resembling Progressive and I’m left with a few websites and some bit-and-pieces of MSNBC. Every once in a while, there seems to be a glimmer of hope, a few voices that speak up, and maybe some kind of real actions…and then, nothing.

Maybe I really am in some kind of minority…Maybe the vast, VAST majority of America wants the Rushpubs and their Rule-With-An-Iron-Fist society.

    …maybe I’m just alone.

The “Visitors” seem to already be here…and are doing everything they can to take over.

  66. Angellight says:

The Party of Yes We Can vs. the Party of No and Fear! Democrats must again take up their chant, Yes We Can and lead by leading and accomplishing reforms — like health care which is tied to the deficit and the bankrupting of businesses. Those timid Dems who refuse to take issue with the insurance companies will lose their seats in the coming elections. Those who stand firm for the people will be re-elected to fight on! It is interesting to note that the three Democrats who won houseseats in Tuesday’s elections which had previously been held by Republicans in New York and California, all embraced the current health plan and a Public Option! Democratic congresspeople should not be led astray by the Party of No and Fear…. and remember and again Reiterate confidently everyday on the house floor — “Yes We Can”!

GOP politicians and operatives continue to dishonestly and deceptively say that they cannot support a public option, they claim that they want to keep costs down for the American people! Really? They claim this all the while knowing that a public option/competition is the only way to really control cost and to bring about true reform thereby putting a definite Halt to the “out of control” medical costs and premiums crippling people and businesses today, making it harder and harder for average Americans and young people to realize and take advantage of the American Dream. One must ask themselves, If you happen to lose your job today or tomorrow during this time when we do not have health care reform for all, who will pay you or your family’s health care bills, that is if you are lucky enough to be able to see a doctor without insurance? This American Dream, which has slowly been slipping away, is in the last throes of dying, if we do not forge a new path ahead on toward inclusion and cooperation for all. This dream of America will die to be replaced with just another third world country — becoming another failed experiment and promise, only to go by the wayside.

There is a reason that GOP always say Gov’t is the problem. They know that when you have a party of men and women in power who do Nothing for Main Street but say no or complain, who stymie reform, then government is a problem! And so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Whenever GOP are in power or in control, the government has been a do nothing, problematic government for Average Americans and a big Boom and Bonus for the Rich and well connected. We must remember, this is Bush & the GOP’s recession. They had the power for 8 years and did nothing to uplift this country, only to rape it from Main Street, to add it to Wall Street. The GOP does not even like to raise the Minimum Wage! They care nothing if you are making it. People we must wake up now! Because look around, assess the United States’ situation that we are in and ask yourself over the last 10 years of GOP rule, what have they done for you lately? Or this country? Do you like what the United States has become? And ask yourself this, if we let them get power again, how much more further will this country be destroyed until the United States will no longer be. That is a very frightening thought!

  67. Crash Delivers says:

I’m curious as to where all this faith in our government comes from? Both sides of the aisle have a knack for messing up everything. We really want to have them in charge of an insurance company? Based on what financial responsibility? They sure did a bang up job with the housing market right?

Sure! Public option! Drive those evil insurance companies out of business! What is their average profit margin? If the companies were gouging us so horridly wouldn’t a new company come in and offer it cheaper and clean house? The cost of Medicare and Medicaid are going right up with the insurance premiums. So, if they do intend to keep the public option affordable, then they must be subsidizing it with other tax payer dollars.

If insurance companies are truly running at around an average 4% profit margin, then it must be actual costs of health care that drives up those premiums. Medicare and Medicaid both increase the cost of health care for privately insured patients, due to reimbursements that are lower then the actual costs of some procedures. They have to make up the difference somewhere, so they are forced to raise prices in other departments. I’m not sure exactly how taxing medical device makers will help lower the costs of care, everything I’ve ever purchased that started to get taxed more, started to cost more.

I’d argue that the health care field itself is where we need more competition. At very least people should actually care how much the doctors are charging their insurance companies. No one thinks about price checking if they aren’t actually getting the bill. People want their insurance to pay for whatever doctor they want to see, which is understandable, but I doubt it’s helping foster healthy competition.

They don’t bother to contemplate the actual cost to effect on all the tests, another thing to drive up pay outs by insurance companies, who then have to raise premiums to pay for it. If the doctor wants to order all the tests in the world, have at it! Who cares? Right? I mean, insurance is covering it.

As for the same coverage as our elected? That’s not likely what we’re going to get, as far as I understand it, the people who made these bills strangely decided to exempt themselves from it.
