At a press conference moments ago, Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, commanding general of the Army’s III Corps and Fort Hood, revealed that contrary to initial media reports, the suspected shooter in the Ft. Hood murders is not dead. The suspect, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, is reportedly “in stable condition” and his death is “not imminent.” The female first responder who shot Hasan is also alive. Cone further reported that, while he’s not ruling out terrorism as possible motive for the shootings, the “evidence does not suggest” it was an act of terrorism.
Update Thirteen individuals have died, and
30 were wounded. Two of the victims were civilians; the rest were military. (Subsequent media reports say
only one of the dead was a civilian.) He did not offer any comments about Maj. Hasan during the briefing, only stating that he has had "no personal background with him." While he confirmed that other suspects were taken into custody, Cone said that evidence indicates "it was a single shooter" who was carrying at least one semi-automatic weapon. Tomorrow, Ft. Hood will observe a day of mourning.
Update Hasan reportedly “hired a military lawyer and
had been trying since September to avoid deployment to Iraq and leave the Army.” A co-worker identified as Col. Terry Lee told Fox News that Hasan “
opposed the U.S. role in Iraq and Afghanistan and told others that ‘we should not be in the war in the first place.’” Lee added that Hasan “became more agitated, more frustrated with the conflicts over there" as a pullout from the war zones did not seem to be in the cards.
MSNBC reported earlier that this man is a psychiatrist who treated men coming home from Iraq.
He is said to have been upset about being deployed to Iraq.
Is this still the case?
November 5th, 2009 at 9:40 pm“the evidence does not suggest” it was an act or terrorism.
That won’t stop Malignant Malkin, Limpballs or the Trolls from saying so. Reality is not their thing.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:42 pmWe’ll ahve to wait and see LL. right now, my gut says this was a crimminal act, not a case of terroism. The evidence available seems to lean that way.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:44 pmLiberty@1, Yes. Apparently, he was upset that he was being deployed and didn’t even tell his family about it. He is unmarried, no children. He was born in America and is a Muslim. He served for years and was a grad of Virginia Tech.(Yes, that is weird)
November 5th, 2009 at 9:44 pmMy heart goes out to the familys devastated by this. Just unbelievable.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:45 pmFt. Hood murder suspect alive and in stable condition.
– - To be famously dead is to be famously used. The truth can now be known.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:45 pm“was a grad of Virginia Tech.” OMG
November 5th, 2009 at 9:46 pmWhy the smoke and mirrors routine?
They couldn’t tell if he was dead or alive? Zombie?
November 5th, 2009 at 9:46 pmJim@2 Already on Faux news Shep had on Kay Hucthison when he said, “His name says a lot.” In which she replied,”Yes, Shep, it does.” So already we have the Faux news slanting the story.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:47 pm#2, Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison had this to say today on FOX:
A not so subtle reference to Muslim name = must be a terrorist.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:47 pmWell, already Faux news is framing the debate. How long do you think MSM will follow? Then the real story will be forgotten and Obama will be blamed somehow. The same old, same old.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:50 pmAlready on Faux news Shep had on Kay Hucthison when he said, “His name says a lot.” In which she replied,”Yes, Shep, it does.” So already we have the Faux news slanting the story.
And to think I once had high hopes for Shep Smith. I thought that he alone was the closest thing to being a decent human being as you could find at Fox News Channel. The good Senator’s latent bigotry doesn’t surprise me, but I thought Shep “This is America and we don’t…f ucking…torture!” Smith was better than that. It saddens me a little to learn I was wrong.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:52 pmWhen I first heard his name, I wondered how long it would take before someone made a stupid statement like this before having all the facts. It turns out that I didn’t have to wait long at all.
Too bad his last name wasn’t McVeigh.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:52 pmI’d say a very mentally disturbed individual… look at it this way – I read in one story that this officer was attacked about his name/religion by other soldiers continually.. how messed up does your mind get when you are of (reportedly) muslim faith defending the US in a war vs mainly muslim extremists, you are about to be deployed to Iraq .. and work as a psychiatrist listening to others with PTSD every day..
There’s no defense for any of his actions.. but I can clearly see signs of what might have caused him to crack..
November 5th, 2009 at 9:54 pmBoy that didn’t take long Faux! Way to go aholes!
November 5th, 2009 at 9:54 pmAnd Kay? STFU.
Wayne@12, Yeah, Shep had his moments. His true personality has broken through. Just like Lidsay Graham. For years he was a di*k, but lately he has become a ally. Too little, too late.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:56 pmUS Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Fox host Shepard Smith asked: “The names tells us a lot, does it not, senator?”
“It does,” Hutchison replied. “It does, Shepard.”
– - Hey pinheads, here’s another name that tells us a lot – Meb Keflezighi.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:57 pmDon’t forget Kay is in heated race with with Rick (Secede!) Perry. Maybe she feels she has to step over to the crazy side.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:58 pm“…the “evidence does not suggest” it was an act of terrorism.”
The trolls will conveniently skip over that part of the story.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:00 pmI read where his parents were from near Jerusalem [Israel]

November 5th, 2009 at 10:04 pmThey are inherently weak and scared. Preemption is a proven method. Thank you.
The trolls can do what they damn well please. After the performance today at the so-called ‘Health Care Protest’, I couldn’t give a sh*t. What were they protesting? Not friggin health care. All I saw were a bunch of Neanderthals carry racist signs, exploiting the Holocaust, and low intelligent baffoons. Some ‘Big tent’. What a bunch of As*holes.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:05 pmya Xisithrus… he has one brother in the US and one in the middle east.. I forget where.. but — once again, that adds to the profile of his head just being f’d up from it all.. I have a feeling he generally had mixed loyalties because of all of this.. and lost it.
I dunno.. luckily we won’t need to speculate – we should find out soon.

And what IS the “real” story? Oh yea, it’s Bush”s fault
—
November 5th, 2009 at 10:10 pmSee that is weird because the line I have been hearing is that it is because of his religion…
I saw pictures from the scene, people looked pretty terrified
—-
November 5th, 2009 at 10:11 pmReagan supported terrorism…
Popatop…
No matter how you look at it – It’s clearly Nidal Malik Hasan’s fault. As I said.. there’s absolutely no excuse for any of this.. none.
The wars on the other hand.. especially the one Hasan was about to head to ARE Bush’s fault…
something else there’s simply NO excuse for.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:11 pm@24. STFU. I never said ANYTHING about Bush. Go hide in your cave Neanderthal. I am not in the mood.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:12 pmtell you what – that rachel is a class act, the way she handled this story, the breaking press conference, and summation of that…
also – i heard a promo earlier: “Rachel’s back on Meet the Press!”
just sayin’…
i think it’s great news that major hasan is alive – the better to figure it all out, i guess…
and that the female first responder who shot hasan is also alive – most excellent… you go girl.
incredible sympathy for the victims and families… horrific,
November 5th, 2009 at 10:14 pmIts not Bushs’ fault poptop. He didnt want to go to Iraq after hearing all the horror stories from people he was working to help.
He snapped, not because of religion, but because of the horrors of war. And Hutchinson allowing Shepard to frame the issue around a ‘name’ is ludicdrous
November 5th, 2009 at 10:15 pm25, Lt. Gen. Robert Cone was there and you weren’t (though you did see pictures). Of course he doesn’t share your point of view. So you ignored him.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:15 pmPopatop says:
And what IS the “real” story? Oh yea, it’s Bush”s fault
November 5th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
Bush did take us into Iraq for no valid reason, other than he needed to be a “War President.”
Oh yeah, you get a woody about dead troops for absolutely no reason.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:16 pmBtw, you were the first person to mention Bush. Check it out.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:16 pmDoesn’t Kay Biotch Hutchison have plans to run for governor?
With that nasty slip of prejudiced behavior she just offended all non white citizens of TX.
What a campaign ad.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:18 pm35, Kay’s for bigotry. Perry’s for secession. Take your pick.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:21 pmThe anger displayed on Bush was NOTHING compared to the way the hatred is displayed against Obama. The hosility, the racism, the venom is unpresidented. These Repugs are destroying thier Party. Who will vote for them now? The 4,000 lost souls at the rally? The ‘Internets’ will destroy them. In a few decades, WHITES will be the minority. The Repugs forget that. Good.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:22 pmHassan is an Irish, Arabic and Hebrew surname. It is spelled either Hasan, Hassan, Hassen, Hasson, Hassin, Hassine, Hacen, Hasen, Hasin, Hass, Hassa, Hasa, Haas, Cassin, Chassan, Chasan, Khassan, Khasan, Cassan, Casan, Hasso, Hassanein, Hassani, Hasani, Alhassan, Al-Hassan, Hasanov, Hasanovic, O’Hassan or Hasaan.

November 5th, 2009 at 10:28 pmi heard (on msnbc) one guy say that the many casualties was because of the semi-automatic gun used…
another (lt. cone?), spoke about soldiers performing first aid on the victims, how that kept the casualties down…
not to start a fight here, but not lifting the ban on semi-automatics would’ve kept the casualties down, not?
and who did that…?
November 5th, 2009 at 10:32 pmX@40, Why do we bother? They are unthinking sheeple. I try not to respond to them, but they make it hard don’t they? Reasoning is not part of their genetic make-up, like intelligence. THEY have to be told waht to do. It’s like preaching to a brick wall. I gets so tiring. They wrap themselves in God and the flag and have the balls to call themselves ‘Patriots’. But they are ‘Arm Chair warriors’ Kind of like Cheney, Bush and Limpballs.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:34 pmSoooo, how many times did you protest “Rovian cover up(s)” during the Bush administration? That’s right.

That kills all the hate mongering garbage the righties were hoping to spew.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:40 pmBy “he”, I meant Noor Almaleki’s father.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:40 pmAs a vet it breaks my heart to see my fellow brethren slain in such a brutal and cowardly fashion. No doubt the military justice system will prevail and my fallen and injured brothers-in-arms will not be forgotten.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:41 pm#39.. troll.. listen I am not without my suspicions of our FBI/CIA and government – mainly due to the events of 9/11.. but you are overboard.
cover up? What exactly would the cover up be? You need to give me some sort of motive.. your statement makes no sense whatsoever.
he was thought dead at the time of first report – then he was confirmed alive.. no mystery.
He is of Jordanian DECENT..not from Jordan.. and not born there – of Jordanian DECENT – I’ve heard nothing of Syria – although check a map once.. they’re side by side.. it would be an understandable mistake.
His web postings in question seem to have not been enough for them to ‘watch’ him as you say.. just was something that had been flagged to them as an uncomfortable message he had posted. It isn’t as if he was under surveillance or something.. and he hadn’t done anything sufficient to see him as some type of threat.
anyway.. though I considered some of the info seemingly questionable in the reports -I feel at this point it’s only because of the obvious – they are digging up whatever they can find on him and we are getting some false information reported.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:41 pm47, You’re right. You haven’t changed a bit. We, on the other hand, won NY-23 and are getting health care. Deal with it.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:42 pmTeabaggers are furious that dead soldiers get the headlines and not their anti-American whine-fest.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:42 pmOh God, The trolls are out in full force aren’t they? HEY trolls. What’s up with the signs at the Bachman Rally? Can you explain the Holocaust poster? Or the one with Obama as the Joker? Or the fact the ‘protesters’ were white, older and pathetic? Or the fact that there only, MAYBE 6,000 of them? EXPLAIN that!

November 5th, 2009 at 10:49 pmNaturally, the troll “missed” this clarification:

November 5th, 2009 at 10:50 pmSo do you have to study under some sort of master from the age of 3 at some sort of mountaintop shrine to learn which words to bold and which not?

November 5th, 2009 at 10:51 pmI amended my post at 10:40pm, troll.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:53 pmYou probably missed that, since you are blinded by prejudice.
wow.. epic fail on my part – #54 I typed ‘Decent’ instead of ‘Descent..’ twice..bolded even.. brilliant move.
..now I’m embarrassed
November 5th, 2009 at 10:54 pmWhat do you expect from a troll? Their leaders suck. Bohner recited the Declaration of Independence instead of the Constitution. One other bozo screwed up the the Pledge of Allegence. These guys are worthy of Webster. Under the defintion of : Bone Head Leaders- Republicans from the year of 1994-present.

November 5th, 2009 at 11:09 pmThe only commonality of Noor’s father an this shooter is religion.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:10 pmRacist will bend over backwards and tie themselves into intellectual knots to paint generalizations that will validate their prejudice.

#70. I think everyone was a bit bothered by the manner that Obama went about addressing it.. let’s be honest – it should have been the first thing out of his mouth.. but on the same token – I find it ridiculous that we immediately need to hear the president give his obligatory view on it.. what do we expect him to say? We had practically no information at the time.. and all he had to say was that it was horrific.. which we all knew.
As I said.. it should’ve been his first statement.. not a regular greeting and then to mention it – but otherwise Obama handled it appropriately -
and it was a terrible event.. but not at all the same as a terrorist attack taking out the trade towers and Bush sitting on his ass reading a children’s book – there’s no parallel.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:15 pmRemember that George Bush’s buddies, the Saudis, were the FINANCIERS of Al Queda.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:15 pmIt doesn’t matter what religion he practiced.
He was an US officer who deceived the military and used his authority to kill his fellow soldiers.
This will be addressed and taken care of.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:16 pm81, AaronQ, he’s a conservative comedian (I know, it’s an oxymoron). Let’s give him some time to work on and polish his material.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:17 pm@Tim43:
I am sure that you good compassionate conservatives are pleased that soldiers were murdered. Now you can get one of hate am radio Gods to rejoice in their deaths and use their deaths to help push your radical and perverse anti-American agenda.
To you, these soldier’s death is less important than your radical and perverse anti-American agenda.
Ohh but you will make sure that working Americans not get health care, because you rather see Americans dies and soldiers get murdered.
But what should you care? You are trailer trash hicks who have never served or contributed to society and who have never run a business or met a payroll.

and then rot the rest of his life in jail.
And then after the first part of your comment – you reveal you don’t give a rat’s ASS about the people killed because you launch into some rant about big government? You stupid fcuk – you show that you haven’t a decent bone in your body.

November 5th, 2009 at 11:39 pmIt think that’s obvious. Odd that you think health care reform won’t pass.
You didn’t think:
November 5th, 2009 at 11:40 pmthe stimulus would pass
Obama would win
dems would be the majority in both houses
that tax cuts for the rich and deregulation were bad ideas
that Iraw had WMD’s…..oh wait, you did think that.
Anyways, I wanted to toy out this cat-n-mouse game about bush’s spending then bring the hammer down when I revealed that the entire middle east wars were never put in a budget and never counted towards bush’s spending. So Obama came into office with an 11 Trillion dollar debt. And Retards like Timmy will lie however they can to get themselves off.

November 6th, 2009 at 12:43 amThis boggles the mind. A Major!? The man was a pretty high ranking officer. You don’t get to be a Major by slipping through the cracks. I’m sorry, I live near Fort Lewis, WA and I know several military folks and I just can’t process this.
@125
Agree about deterrence. People kill because:
1. Heightened emotional response, ‘crimes of passion’ if you will. People flip out, there’s no deterrent to that.
2. Mental defect. ‘Insanity’ for want of a better word. You can’t deter mental illness anymore than you can deter the flu with a law or the threat of a specific punishment.
3. Profit. These people plan their murders carefully and have no reason to believe they will be caught so, again, the threat of specific punishment is not a deterrent.
If the death penalty was an effective deterrent to murder then murder would have gone the way of the Dodo 2000 years ago.

November 6th, 2009 at 12:48 am- considering I see this conversation about Hasan going nowhere.. I don’t see a problem in returning to the topic of the deficit..
Was just reading an interesting book about economics – and got to this paragraph -
————–
In the 1980s, public-choice theory developed the idea that a conservative government might intentionally increase the national debt through tax cuts in order to bind the hands of a subsequent liberal government. More of the budget would
have to be used for interest payments, thereby precluding a liberal government from spending as much as it would like on consumption. It has also been argued that a conservative government prefers inefficient tax systems in order to restrain a future liberal government’s ability to raise revenue to finance new spending
—————-
I hadn’t realized that many economists have put forward the idea of deliberately creating budget deficits.. to try to force fiscal responsibility by the following administration — have you ever heard of something so damn ridiculous? I hadn’t. Look at what these ridiculous budget deficit experiments have brought.. not only was it an excellent excuse to both give the rich tax breaks.. but also spend yourself into a pit – you could then claim it as a reasonable approach to force the next guys to spend responsibly… this seems to be what the last administration tried – with the absolute intent of leaving the next administration with a big hole.. and force them to have nothing to work with — it’s somewhat ingenious in a way.. – if it weren’t for the fact that it’s so careless..give them a mess, and they will be discredited for not doing something about it – their political capital will be spent mopping it up.. – what a reckless policy..
anyway.. just food for thought – thought i’d share.

But he is so dumb that he doesn’t realize he drives people away by being so disagreeable. He flocks to groups like the tea baggers because he thinks if he takes on their ideas he will be accepted, but even they realize his is not sincere, and he is again rejected. so he trolls websites late at night changing his name so often because he is afraid of confrontation. “The fog of war” arrives on the home front, so to speak.
There’s an old saying that gets passed around all the services defining life in the service and in certain circumstances, which might be paraphrased as; ‘life in (the Navy, Army, Marines, wartime, warzone, choose one or more); it’s hours, days, of boredom, interspersed with random moments of pure screaming panic’. “Screaming” is usually more bluntly put with a word which the moderators frown upon. In the mad screaming panic at Ft. Hood this afternoon, when Hasan got loaded into the ambulance and hauled off to a trauma unit, the on-scene commander probably thought he was damn near dead, and that ended up in the scuttlebutt, the rumor mill, as Hasan being dead; in the heat of the moment, reporters don’t get to do a lot of fact checking – they just report the rumors as they go by.
Same thing happened with the (female) first responder who shot him. She apparently was shot by him in the shoot-out and was reported dead, but isn’t.
The fog had to clear a bit before anyone knew exactly who had and had not come out alive.
Terrible day.

which.. I might add.. is exactly what I said earlier =) but thanks very much for expanding on it so well..
I don’t see why people find that so hard to grasp.. during 9/11 there were all sorts of false reports going on..
in ‘102 minutes that changed America’ (great film by the way.. will bring you to tears.. or at least it did me)… but anyway.. in that movie there’s a spot where a guy says he heard the terrorists were going to crash planes into buildings every half hour..
there was another spectator in the movie that claimed one of the planes was a British Airways..
during chaotic events – there’s lots of false reports.. it’s normal.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:45 amThe question that should be getting asked is why the mental illness of this person wasn’t detected and why wasn’t he kicked out of the military?
Is the military really so desperate that “crazy” soldiers are allowed to serve? If so, this sort of thing will keep happening. And why aren’t gay people that “want” to serve allowed in? What a dysfunctional organization. It’s almost as messed up as the Ron Paul worshiping lunatics that “hyperhypocrite” works for.

Au contraire… Veterans are a protected class. I don’t recall that veteran status is specified in the “hate crimes” legislation, but they are a protected class in other legislation. In the situation at Ft. Hood, a fair percentage of the dead and wounded were very probably vets returning from a tour or going off on a second, third or greater deployment.

Graham Fuller, the former Deputy Director of the CIA’s National Council on Intelligence, alluded to the strategy in 1999. ‘The policy of guiding the evolution of Islam and of helping them against our adversaries worked marvelously well in Afghanistan against the Red Army. The same doctrines can still be used to destabilize what remains of Russian power, and especially to counter the Chinese influence in Central Asia.’
Throughout the 1990s, US intelligence sponsorship of Islamist extremist networks was linked to destabilizing Russian and Chinese influence in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Central Asia, the Caucasus and North Africa – which contain the world’s largest energy reserves after the Middle East.

to me.. I think the only thing that protects us to some small degree from the lies of our government.. and the immense corruption — is this little thing called the internet. It’s not as easy to keep the lie going anymore..
The corrupt groups still have one thing going for them though… most people will ignore the truth.. they simply can’t accept it – and pretend it doesn’t exist..

You two are wofully misinformed like many people about guns and gun control on and off military bases. First off personal guns are typically not allowed on base. This major snuck his in to do his dirty deed. Second unless your an MP or have a reason to carry a gun on base (ie training) you would be stopped and questioned. third , the shooter knew he would get no resistance since he was aware of rules one and two. Read for your self and be informed dont be a mindless sheep that follows the herd to slaughter. If you notice the most media doesnt advertise much when legal guns stop crime only when mostly illegal guns are used to slaughter unprotected victims. The government cant legislate crime away. We have the death penalty in many states and still people kill people (wow some deterent huh).
Virgina tech case: Do you think that student shooter guy would open fire if he thought there were other students/teachers with concealed carry permits and guns on them?? Who would shoot back!!! I think not!!!!

You think not. THAT is certain. You dont think. The Virginia Tech shooter was mentally disturbed. I doubt if he would have cared if they had howitzers ready to take out whole buildings. MANY mass shooters do it as a form of suicide. EXPECTING to go down in a blaze of bullets. Dont let at little thing like LOGIC and having some dim idea what you are talking about get in the way of the talking points you have been brainwashed with

November 6th, 2009 at 8:41 amI presume the weapon used was a private weapon. It will be interesting to see if it was an AK-47 and if it was recently purchased from the same internet site that the shooter from Virginia Tech and Wisconsin used.
November 6th, 2009 at 8:49 amWell, Folks, Faux is already gearing up to blame the Left for yesterday’s shootings. Several times this morning the idiots on ‘Nazis and Friends’ were claiming “political correctness” is the reason why the shooter was never arrested or detained earlier.

November 6th, 2009 at 8:56 amI still do think a couple things seem suspicious.. but I’m probably reading into it..
anyway… seems he was headed to Afghanistan – not Iraq..
now they point out – it doesn’t seem right that he was ‘harassed’ by his fellow officers.. because he was a Major – which is a valid point.. if nothing else – chain of command is respected..
this is what I mean.. that’s just one of the things that’s somewhat peculiar – there’s also the internet ‘warning flags’ that weren’t heeded..
I don’t like to start thinking conspiracy.. I’d rather just think it is what it is..
November 6th, 2009 at 9:15 amI just heard that Hasan was given lots of sh*t by his military peers for being a Muslim. Enough to make him snap? Perhaps not but:
1-Bullying can drive one to do crazy things.
2-No doubt hearing all of the horror stories as a psychiatrist from fellow soldiers about the deaths of their comrads to the deaths of innocent Iraqi men, women and children drove Hasan over the top.
3-Being shipped to a war he so detested was the final straw.
Conclusion: To all the righties out there…perhaps this was God’s way of punishing our military for all of the atrocities we have committed in Iraq, in his name??
November 6th, 2009 at 9:27 amahah! they’re saying exactly what I proposed in the beginning!
He listened to people’s horror stories from the war.. and as a muslim he had difficulty with the idea of going to Afghanistan and killing Afghan people.. loyalty issues – and as his date for deployment came closer, he became increasingly tense about it -
I imagine his statements on the internet that were considered ‘warning flags’ are more like instinctual statements defending the actions of extremists – because insults to these extremists he felt were insults to him.
In a sense – I could see it as a big conflict of interest.. the same as being Japanese in the US army and bombing Hiroshima… anyone should be able to see that this type of think could greatly affect a person.. and leading up to the deployment.. it would soon be all you could think about.
as always, it’s absolutely no excuse.. but I get it.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:27 amA few trolls here are awfully quick to suggest this shooter was a terrorist. It seems they are ignoring some facts, including the fact that he was bullied because of his Muslim name and faith and that he was going to be deployed to Afghanistan. He was worried about the kinds of stresses he saw in his patients who had come back from the Middle East. He had already retained an attorney to get out of the Army early. Without a wife and family as support (his parents were both dead), it seems to me he was under an incredible amount of stress. He seems more like a guy who cracked under pressure, not a terrorist, and should be prosecuted as a criminal.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:28 amWhen watching the rethugs little gathering on the Capital steps this morning on CSPAN and seeing Bachmann in the background clapping, smiling and laughing it, she reminded me of those phony, suck ass, suck ups you see at your place of employment during a work Christmas party…. November 6th, 2009 at 9:30 amPennsylvanianne – well, there is this one problem though … by one eye witness account (oddly enough who spoke anonymously?) he yelled ‘Allah Akbar’ before firing..
see what I mean though about suspicious things — why is it that this eye witness of the shooting spoke in anonymity.. is that because they are officers?.. I recall reading of several statements in the papers from officers that they couldn’t give their name..
November 6th, 2009 at 9:36 amDid this guy vote for Obama or not? That makes all the difference in the world!
November 6th, 2009 at 10:13 am@ 172. Londra kulesi muhaf?z? says: I wonder if ol’ Hasan will be charged with a hate crime? After all his victims don’t seem to be part of a “protected class”, just American Soldiers. November 6th, 2009 at 1:09 am
@ 224. Virtual Pebble says: @ 172. Londra kulesi muhaf?z? says: I wonder … Au contraire… Veterans are a protected class. I don’t recall that veteran status is specified in the “hate crimes” legislation, but they are a protected class in other legislation. In the situation at Ft. Hood, a fair percentage of the dead and wounded were very probably vets returning from a tour or going off on a second, third or greater deployment. November 6th, 2009 at 1:49 am
Londra, just one more bit of information for your benefit, and that of any other trolls who might be on the verge of hysterics about ‘hate crimes’, etc.
Assuming that Hasan is the shooter and he survives and is charged, he will NOT be charged under any hate crimes legislation; he’ll be charged and court-martialed under the UCMJ first. He’s active duty military and most of the people he attacked and killed were active duty military. He will probably be eligible for the death penalty.
He may go to trial in federal court for the two(?) civilians who were among his victims, but that would probably happen after the court-martial.

What would you think would have continued to happen if this resturant owner and principal didnt act??? Wouldnt you say these kids below were mentally disturbed like the VA Tech case? yea? But notice they did drop the weapon!! Right?
My point is even most mentally disturbed people know when to give up.
Edinboro, Pa. A 14-year-old middle school student opened fire at a school graduation dance being held at a local restaurant. The shooter killed one teacher and wounded two students and another teacher. The armed teenager was apprehended by the restaurant owner, who grabbed his own shotgun from his office and went after the shooter. Staring into the owner’s shotgun, the teen dropped his gun and surrendered.
Pearl, Miss. A 16-year-old sophomore entered Pearl High with a hunting rifle under his overcoat. He opened fire, killing two students and wounding seven. The assistant principal, Joel Myrick, ran to his truck and retrieved the .45 automatic he kept there. Running back, he spotted the shooter in the parking lot. Ordering the teen to stop, the vice principal put his gun to the shooter’s neck and held him until police arrived.

Are you a MORON. Did the columbine kids drop their guns or did they DIE? You are stupid dude. The kid was crazy. You cannot say he what he would have done. Arming a school is INSANE. The drugs and hormones at a college. Just how stupid ARE you anyway? Do you want those kind of shootings every Thursday all across the country? Pretty much everyone was armed during the wild west days. Was it less violent? You are a moron. More guns in inappropriate place is a prescription for disaster not an answer to any problems if you cant see that you are too stupid to be having an adult conversation

I was a M.P. and believe me the last thing you would want is military personnel running around armed (ON BASE). In a combat environment a completely different story. What I said about guns on base:
MARIE AND MISSMOLLY:
You two are wofully misinformed like many people about guns and gun control on and off military bases. First off personal guns are typically not allowed on base. This major snuck his in to do his dirty deed. Second unless your an MP or have a reason to carry a gun on base (ie training) you would be stopped and questioned. third , the shooter knew he would get no resistance since he was aware of rules one and two.
Now I didnt say that all the military on base should be armed. What I was pointing out to MARIE AND MISSMOLLY was they thought a lot of the people on the base were walking around with guns when in fact that they weren’t. That was why Hasan got as far as he did. Should bases use more armed MP’s? YES Should everyone on base walk around with a gun? probably not. Should bases at least have armed escort when large gatherings are held? you betcha!!! I do think now you will see more armed military police patrolling the bases because of this. I mean what good would an MP be without a sidearm. You would be just a rent a cop(ie security guard). Also if your in the military you better read the second amendment again. You forgot what your protecting.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:44 amIf Hasan initiated this slaughter in the name of Allah then rake him over the coals for his solitary act of fanatic terror. Don’t extend that rage into a witch hunt against all Muslims living in the U.S. and/or serving in the military. But when Hasan has his day in court, let him, as an individual, face the stiffest of consequences (which is not death because his punishment ends there– but rather a life spent in the hollows of a stark and tiny prison cell).
Chiefly, the focus should be on the victims, both dead and alive. There are families out there who have been ripped apart by this senseless act. Put aside the damn politics for the moment and recognize that the ripple effect of this shooting now directly traumatizes family and friends of the dead and wounded all over the nation. So many lives cut short when they have already given so much… It is they who need the empathy in lieu of all personal, political agendas.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:44 amEugeneDebs :
You still dont get it. Read the links before you judge.

November 6th, 2009 at 11:58 amEugeneDebs:
A hypothetical question for you:
Your in a college class and a mentally insane or disturbed/upset/or whatever student shoots up the class that your in.
Would you prefer at least that the professor had a concealed gun to protect himself and the class or would you prefer that no one in the class was there to protect you and the others and maybe live or die with being a sheep in that situation.
I love how you make the comparison that the kids were upset vs the VA tech guy was mentally disturbed insane. People would die in either case. So your reasoning is moot point.
Personally I dont care what diferrence the gunman’s state of mind is, be it child or adult. If they start shooting then it is better someone can shoot back to stop them.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:13 pmEugeneDebs:
Pretty much everyone was armed during the wild west days. Was it less violent?
Yes it was!!!!
But dont let the facts (read statistics below or do you think they are made up too) get in the way of your liberal sheephood delusions. You cant legislate crime away. The criminals (or disturbed upset mentally ill) will always get guns so at least give an honest law abiding person a fighting chance.
http://www.examiner.com/x-3253-Minneapolis-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2009m2d17-Dispelling-the-myth-of-The-Wild-West
In his book, Frontier Violence: Another Look, author W. Eugene Hollon, provides us with these astonishing facts:
In Abilene, Ellsworth, Wichita, Dodge City, and Caldwell, for the years from 1870 to 1885, there were only 45 total homicides. This equates to a rate of approximately 1 murder per 100,000 residents per year.
In Abilene, supposedly one of the wildest of the cow towns, not a single person was killed in 1869 or 1870.
Zooming forward over a century to 2007, a quick look at Uniform Crime Report statistics shows us the following regarding the aforementioned gun control “paradise” cities of the east:
DC – 183 Murders (31 per 100,000 residents)
November 6th, 2009 at 12:30 pmNew York – 494 Murders (6 per 100,000 residents)
Baltimore – 281 Murders (45 per 100,000 residents)
Newark – 104 Murders (37 per 100,000 residents)
5 wtnesses claiming he screamed “allah akbar, god is great” before firing.
That’s what George H.W. Bush and Saleem Bin Laden were screaming TOGETHER on the morning of 9/11 in the Ritz Carlton at the meeting of the Carlyle Group!!!!
WOW! What a “coincidence”…

And then screwed her MOTHER as well.
Just like TRAITOR Bush got HIS 15-year-old girlfriend an ABORTION.
PROPAGANDA and TREASON—
The SAME OLD Grand Hypocrisy Party!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 2:17 pmIf this POS lives he will be tried in a military court and hung.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:56 pmI am always amazed by those that join the military but don’t want or think they will ever be put in harms way. This killer got his entire higher education paid by the federal govt. (i.e, taxpayers) then when he was be deployed he cries the blues and finally starts shooting people. Besides, he would have been in the military green zone. Not in combat. The odds of him being hurt in either Iraq or Afghanistan were very remote. … give him a paid education and benefits, but no deployment? Idiot.
November 6th, 2009 at 4:42 pmAll you can say that Im ignorant, your the ignorant ones, you used the word ignorant in wrong context. Often Im preceived ignorant because you know Im right. Hasan didn’t qualify for Section eight because all he was making was political statements. He had it good at Walter Reed until he starting being a bad solider. If the milatary doesn’t hang him shoot him at firing squad. Even if you vote my comments down you know my point is correct or you wouldn’t vote them down.
November 6th, 2009 at 4:45 pmI’m always amazed how the biggest COWARDS, who never wore the uniform themselves, are the FIRST to call for WAR and BLOODSHED.
TRAITORS Bush and Cheney are in the forefront.
But it includes almost ALL of the RapePublic politicians, as well as the “talking heads” on Pox “news”.
November 6th, 2009 at 4:54 pmncbrickhome I guess you going to start shooting people up because your pissed off at the war?

November 6th, 2009 at 5:49 pmWe have to profile or get rid of muslims out of this country along with the people that defend them. If you are offended by this comment, well im offended that I have to live with you crazy infant like people.
November 6th, 2009 at 5:59 pmGod forbid if I say execute Hasan but it is allowed for a muslim to do what he did to other people in this country, thats all I hear from you sick people.
November 6th, 2009 at 6:16 pmNope, just point out that the Chickenhawks yell the LOUDEST for BLOOD, unless it is THEM or their CHILDREN who have to be the ones to FIGHT.
Bush, Cheney, and almost ALL of the RapePublics fit the mold.
The TREASON of the Bush Crime Family lives on and is supported byt their MORON followers like YOU.
REAL Americans KNOW this.
Not YOU, of course….
November 6th, 2009 at 9:44 pmAnd Pox “news” Chickenhawks like O’SexualPredator, Rush, Beck, and the rest of the unamerikkkan supporters of Bush TREASON.
Including the Bush family ties to the Bin Ladens and the Saudis who FINANCED Al Queda.
Bush TREASON lives on!!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 9:46 pmCHICKENHAWK Tom Tancredo bashes the VA system, then gets called out by a VETERAN how Tancredo was IN FAVOR of Vietnam,

http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/tom-tancredo-walks-site-ed-show-because
You unamerikkkan Chickenhawks support TRAITORS like Bush and Cheney.
May you BURN for ETERNITY along with the Bushes and Cheneys.
And TRAITOR Ronnie Reagan, already with his MASTER Satan.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
November 6th, 2009 at 9:53 pmSo, should we apply the same standard to Erik Prince and his “Christian” dominionist compatriots? If you’re not willing to apply the same standard, then you are an effing hypocrite. Sorry if that offends you.
November 7th, 2009 at 5:32 pmI hope that thing lives to see a military trial! Who better then our soldiers to prosecute a fanatic like him. Screamin “Allahu Akbar”/”Allah is the Greatest” same thing. Funny how terrorist in Iraq scream the same thing before they blow themselves up trying to KILL american soldiers. He was also wearing white during the shooting. Wich is what many extremist wear right before they commit suicide trying to kill American troops.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:00 pmDid you know the Iraqis just LOOOOVED it when President Obama was elected. They ran around singing “Allahu Akbar”. They also said that President Obama belonged to them. Now that could have been a english misinterpretation the Iraqi saying it only had a 2 or 3 PHDs and could speak 4 different languages.
