G. Gordon Liddy’s producer claims around ‘a million’ attended the GOP’s anti-health care reform rally.

After the 9/12 march on Washington, conservatives falsely claimed that over a million people attended, when in reality the closest thing to an official count — numbers given by the Washington DC Fire Department to ABCNews.com — placed the crowd at “approximately 60,000 to 70,000 people.” Though today’s anti-health care reform rally has been much more sparsely attended, that hasn’t stopped conservatives from inflating the numbers again. On G. Gordon Liddy’s radio show today, producer Franklin Raff, who was on the ground at the rally, told guest host Joseph Farah that the crowd is “just as big or bigger than” the 9/12 rally, which Raff estimated “at about a million.” Listen here:

Capitol Hill police told NBC’s Luke Russert that the crowd was about 4,000. At around 2 PM eastern time, Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) posted an aerial picture of the crowd on her TwitPic page, clearly showing a crowd far, far smaller than “a million”:

    – - It just seems like one million people because the tea-baggers are so incredibly dense.

  2. theladyorthetiger says:

Why conservatives make bad accountants – anything above 100 is “about a million.”

  3. glogrrl says:

Looks as if the same person who counted the presidental ballots in 2000 and 2004 counted the tea partiers today. No wonder Bush won.

  4. Zooey says:

Franklin Raff is the kind of guy who calls his three inch dick, his “big 10 inch.”

So naturally he’s not good at estimating anything outside the scope of his weenie.

Bad move, Lynn. Hope you’re ready to fight a teabagger in the primaries.

  15. slappy magoo says:

considering their irrational hatred of healthcare reform, maybe it was 4000 really fat people, taking up the space of a million.

Wignuts: if they’re not making their ranks artificially larger, they’re making the earth artificially younger.

  16. Badmoodman says:

Capitol Hill police told NBC’s Luke Russert that the crowd was about 4,000.

    – - And 40 buses were used for these people. Do the math. Virtually everyone there was bussed in by the astroturfers.

  17. theladyorthetiger says:

Those buses must not have been very full…

  18. Purple State says:

So…take from this estimate of 4000 and the estimate that 40 buses from the AFP housed 2000 or so…

Yup. 50% of the outrage is astroturf’d.

He can get away with this on a third rate radio show where his regular listeners are to fat, stupid and lazy to get out of their trucks.
Raff and Liddy are only telling them what they want to hear, in between the ads for beer and chew.

  23. LibertyLover says:

I wonder at the size estimation capabilities of the tea-bag crowd.

If they think such a small crowd is a million people, I wonder what size they think their own peni……. er…. feet are?

    theladyorthetiger says:

Who does this idiot libby think hes fooling? Certainatly not us libs. Repugs and the wingnut talkingheads are so used to their followers believing the sht that they spew. Anyone of their followers will look at the picture above and agree. They will say that its a million people there.
If you are a repug backer than you are so far out of touch with reality that you are irrelevant just like the repugs and their talkingheads.

  36. Xisithrus says:

Liberals protest war and torture and conservatives protest health care.

Well they are for the old order of ‘let them eat cake’

  37. theladyorthetiger says:

26 buses – isn’t that about a million? (should have taken my math classes at one of those liberal colleges)

Bwah. I am scared to see a photo in infrared. [mucho inflatable people with warm spots]

  39. Chris LeJeune says:

I was in DC for business at the time of the 9/12 protest. My hotel was the regular price, usually Crystal City will go up if there is a large event in town. I caught a cab coming out of the EEOB and heading over to Hart Senate building. The cab fare was the usual price, not inflated, and it took me about 30 seconds to catch. I had to reserve hotel rooms for other business associates from the 9th through the 13th, and did so with no problems at all. The airport wasn’t crowded. I had no problem setting up flight arrangements for other co-workers.

In other words, there were no signs at all that there was any kind of large convention in town. And then I fly back and hear “2 million people” were in DC. Uh … No – they weren’t.

  40. Xisithrus says:

    26 buses – isn’t that about a million?

    Fractionalized bussing.

  41. PissedOffByTheLies says:

    RE: #13 by Leftside Annie…

  42. TheRadicalRightisRadicallyWrong says:

How do the minds of these people work where they can look at anything and say with conviction that it is something exactly opposite of what they are looking at!?!

  43. Harold Melvin says:

OT, Gingrich apologizes for supporting Scozzafava.

Gingrich: I think the nomination was a mistake. I wish that we had gotten involved earlier. And if we had, I would have done everything I could to make sure she had not been picked. And she clearly proved in the last few days that she was in no way a loyal Republican.

Guess Limbaugh really does run the party.

  44. Lefty Liberal says:

Typical Home Skoold idiots. Can’t even do simple math to be able to understand that 1,000,000 is greater than 1,000.

And what makes matters even worse, is that these people have the right to vote. It is no wonder this country is in the sad shape it is in.

  45. P.D. says:

LOL! Like we didn’t see this coming? We’ve been talking about this ALL day! 1 million! Aiming to high ain’t they? They could have made up a more believable number! You know maybe 4,000? Idiots.

  46. gordon_freeman42 says:

There were thousands more who showed up for the National Equality March last month than this…movement.

  47. Virtual Pebble says:

A million what? Angels dancing on a pinhead?

These tea-bagoids and Republipimps aren’t too good at some parts of agit-prop, are they? You’d think they could have at least photo-shopped a bigger crowd to skeer the R congresscritters.

  48. Bobwurst says:

So if there was a million teabaggers, that would mean that at any point in time during the demonstration, there were 500,000 scrotums gently caressing a million chins.

  49. Bobwurst says:

Yeah gordon, using teabag math that means there was 40,000,000 people protesting for marriage equality. It’s amazing!

  50. Ape-Man says:

These Republicans have been off the tracks for a while now – that’s why they’re so far into the woods at this point. Look out, there’s a cliff just ahead…

the Tea Baggers in the passenger cars are being served cocktails as they race to meet their destiny.

  51. Buckie Boy says:

Fox will up the numbers to 3 million…

    …or maybe a billion…

…that’s it A BILLION KAJILLIAN LOONIES marched on the capitol.

  52. noseeum says:

    “…gently caressing a million chins.”

    Now there’s some fuzzy math!

  53. theladyorthetiger says:

    Maybe they’re counting in metric – let’s see: 10 teabaggers = 100 usual people…

Wait a minute! Metric? what am I thinking? That’s French…oh, noes!!!!

  54. pags2 says:

The upside of this astroturfed demonstration is that the news coverage cannot hide the diminished crowds and the sponsors are exposed for the fools in all of this. It is going to be difficult for them to muster crowds for cap and trade which is now moving through Congress. I think the sponsors are going to be more cautious about staging another astroturf event. We will just have to wait and see what new antics AFP will try.

  58. livelongandprosper says:

    Those are pretty tiny protesters!

  59. whirlaway says:

A million of what? Maybe a million pubic hairs, protesting against the “PUBIC OPTION”! What a bunch of Morans(TM) :-)

  60. 5th Estate says:

Standard charter bus = 47 passengers
‘Deluxe’ charter bus = 60 passengers

    Cost $750-$1,000 per day.
    40 buses cost $30-40,000

    40 x 60 = 2,400 maximum in the ‘Dick Army’ of bussed-in Teabaggers.
    Police estimate “about 4,000″ total.

    Number of voting-age US citizens = 228,000,000

The ‘Dick Army’ of Teabaggers at best represented about 0.000003% of the voting age population.

  61. livelongandprosper says:

There is more fragments of tea leaves in a teabag than people that showed up for the protest.

  62. dasm says:

To Repubs, 4,000 = 1,000,000. And they think ANYONE should ever trust them with the U.S. economy? These guys are such liars the economy would tank overnight. Oh, wait– it did, under Bush/Cheney.

  63. 5th Estate says:

The ‘Dick Army’, Nov 5 2009 ‘Battle Honors’:

    Arrived Washington D.C without incident
    Screwed-up the Pledge of Allegiance
    Yelled at buildings
Tore-up a copy of a health-care bill incorrectly attributed to Nancy Pelosi.
Went home to make more videos about ‘dippin‘( thanks skoalrebel!)

    Mission Accomplished!

  64. dasm says:

These liars think that photo shows one million people? My God, what blatant dishonesty. Repubs – you lie! I don’t even believe 4,000 is correct. Think of a whole school photo– I’d say maybe 2,500 – 3,000 at the most.

  65. MadasHelinVA says:

Why would anyone even think these teabagger neocons know how to count since they couldn’t even provide numbers for the stimulus bill or their so-called ‘Health Insurance Reform Bill’ – just introduced yesterday [after the entire spring and summer of Dems writing bills in the house and senate]? Never ask these idiots to provide numbers on anything!

  66. bluehue says:

Conflating the numbers reveals a sense of inadequacy.

  67. lux says:

and this is the tea party they’ve pushed for awhile now.. across the internet – and they managed this pitiful showing. It’s amazing.. they truly are dwindling down to nothing.

  68. lokidog says:

If that’s a million people, the crowd at Obama’s inauguration has been under reported by about 30 million.

  74. Game of Life says:

I bet there are more curious onlookers than teabaggers.

  75. Game of Life says:

Now repugs can claim there were tens of hundred of people there.

shelly said this was to show us their last hoorah. What a repug waterloo(n).

I can count the people using the pic.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-HA

It looks like traffic is moving regularly.

  78. Game of Life says:

Come on guys, as little as the people are in the pic, it’s possible for the teabaggers to stuff 20k people on each bus.

  79. WaltTheMan says:

There are only 1762 heads in the photo. That includes 116 on the bottom rows behind the flagstaff on the middle right. My app may have missed a couple dozen because of similar hair of hat color and parasols. It may have also over counted because of gaps in the “crowd”.

  80. Xisithrus says:

1762. Huh. That explains why no wide angle shots of the Bachmann ‘party’

  81. SKdeA says:

Well, if every sperm is sacred… maybe a million of them.

  82. The Moderate Squad says:

Wow, this crowd really shows the awesome drawing power of Rep. Bachman. She’ll soon be joining Liddy as another neoCon has-been who will nevertheless make a living having tantrums on talk radio and at chicken dinner find-raisers.

  83. flight says:

Alas Michel Bachmann, your are no “Glenn Beck”.
I think you’re just as crazy.

  85. Chicano2nd says:

  86. The Moderate Squad says:

Yeah, Annie, you can’t take a sick day from work without being called a socialist or worse.

  87. Xisithrus says:

Well, I think the days of Astro-turfing have come to an end. From Beck to Bachmann to Freedom Works.

The Washington Consensus, with its servile media, has lost the ability to form public opinion.

  92. linzloo08 says:

Wow, these idiots can’t count, can they? No wonder they said that 70,000 people at the 9/12 march was 700,000 people.. Must’ve missed learning about their methods in my math class at a (liberal) community college.
    Stay classy, idiots!

  93. Mark701 says:

When you compare the hype to the actual numbers it becomes obvious that their is a serious disconnect with reality. This begs the question; who do people like Beck, Hannity, ORielly et al think takes them seriously?

  94. tojby_2000 says:

“Reports came in today that two hundred trillion people attended the march on Washington D.C. to protest the government’s terrible legislation.”

And conservatives wonder why we don’t take them seriously.

Maybe we’ll think about it when they learn how to COUNT!!!!!

  96. JoeBridgeman says:

oops, you guys misunderstood… the million referred to was the clan’s march in the turn of the century!
