Is Glenn Beck Being Treated By SEIU Nurses?

beckian3One of right-wing TV host Glenn Beck’s most frequent targets is the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Beck has in the past repeatedly referred to SEIU members as “thugs” involved in radical leftist conspiracies, even going as far as to say that SEIU president Andy Stern is trying to re-create the Bolshevik Revolution. “When you start to figure out who SEIU is and what they want, you’re not really comfortable,” Beck said last month.

In recent days, Beck has been hospitalized for appendicitis. As Alternet’s Alexander Zaitchik points out, the staff treating the ailing pundit is likely under the auspices of SEIU nurses:

The security-conscious Beck has not disclosed the name of the facility, but it’s a safe bet that it is staffed by proud members of a storied union: New York’s Local 1199, aka United Healthcare Workers East, which belongs to the Service Employees International Union. The SEIU has organized all of Manhattan’s major hospitals, including every facility to which Beck could have conceivably been sent.

Beck certainly isn’t complaining about being treated by nurses who were organized by the union he regularly demonizes. On his Twitter account, he praised the staff that is attending to him:

If it does turn out that Beck’s “amazing” nurses happen to be members of the SEIU, will he retract the statements he has made condemning the union or will he continue on his McCarthyite tirade?

If it does turn out that Beck’s “amazing” nurses happen to be members of the SEIU, will he retract the statements he has made condemning the union

No, because he’s a hypocritcal piece of sh!t.

  2. EnnuiDivine says:

Of COURSE Beck will continue making inane statements. He’s grateful for the excellent care the nurses have provided, and all he wants for them…is to have them stripped of their benefits, have their wages lowered at will, and leave any job protection up to the whim of whatever hospital/organization they’re currently employed in.

  3. Skyler says:

Did anyone see Jon Stewart’s segment last night? He spoofed Beck while weeping for his appenbdix. Instant classic.

  4. wister says:

You might also wonder who provides his insurance. He works on TV, and you can’t work on TV without belonging to a union, so it’s most likely either SAG or AFTRA. Oh, and they will also be providing him with a pension.

This goes for all of them as they attack working men and women and defame trade unions: they are unionized workers too. They just get paid more than minimum.

  5. paleolib says:

Perhaps Beck could spend some time in the psychiatric ward while he is in the hospital. Then again, a dose of sanity probably ends his broadcasting career.

  6. joeyramonesmom says:

Okay, anyone else think it would have been kinda cool if they HAD cut his feet off?

  7. P.D. says:

Bravo to the Nurses for doing a good job. Nurses are caring individuals who treat anyone who is ill. That includes Right-wing pieces of crap who want to take away their benefits and sercurity. But I look at this way, those nurses deserve FAR more money and praise than any Right-winger. They are the true heroes, Beck isn’t worthy enough to scrape their shoes on.

  8. missmolly says:

I think it speaks well of the professionalism of the SEIU members taking care of Beck that his feet haven’t been cut off, nor have there been any other “ooopsies” that could have “accidentally” occurred to somebody who had insulted their union.

Probably because nurses are better people than Beck is.

  9. Fritz says:

He’s being treated for Batshit Insanity, a malady suffered by quite a few republiscum.

    that’s laughable, of course not.

  11. unbelievable says:

Glenn Beck will do whatever it takes to get attention. That’s all he cares about.

  12. pags2 says:

I doubt that there is anything wrong with Beck and his hospitalization, if there is one, is a sham. It is very suspicious that he has an “attack” the day after his teabagger candidate loses in NY. He is afraid to show his face because he will have to explain to his viewers what happened in the election. That would require him to implicitly acknowledge that the voters have rejected the Libertarians and that there is no groundswell of public opinion for these idiots.

  13. Bozo The Neoclown says:

boo-hoo glenda becky is a whore who will do or say anything his corporate puppett masters tell him.

Calling Hoffman a libertarian is an insult to libertarians. Hoffman’s pro-war, anti-choice, anti-gay. In other words, just another Good Ol’ Conservative. Beck’s like the teabaggers he commands, claiming to stand for “liberty” and “freedom” while actually just exploiting populist anger and continuing to serve his corporate masters like a real American conservative.

Gotta agree though, idiots like Hoffman have slim to nil public support.

  17. P.D. says:

How long will Becky be out of commission? At least while he is recuprating he won’t be filling the airwaves with his bile. Unless he wants to do his show right there in the facility that these nurses are currently employed. I bet he won’t be bashing their union then, will he?

  18. evangenital says:

Beck is making a killing out of the stupidheads.

Why would he say anything to get them upset?

He will continue to blather on about their most important biases.

  19. Purple State says:

I never thought I’d say this, but…Beck is a better host than the Judge.

That’s not to say that I want a lesser of two evils, but Napolitano guzzles the Kool-Aid when he’s in Beck’s chair.

  20. tom says:

At least while he is recuprating he won’t be filling the airwaves with his bile

Not to worry. Joe “Pags” (or “Joe the Dumber” as I call him) is sitting in and keeping the bile flowing.

I hope the terrific doctors caring for Glenda have also properly diagnosed and are treating his cranio-anal inversion while he’s hospitalized.

The alternate theory here is also a very likely possibility — BeckyBoy could very well be using the appendix thing as a cover story while he’s checked into rehab for a quick weekend tune-up.

Meanwhile, Limpballs is off the air, too. In his case, I think he’s attending his annual reunion with his ex-wives to negotiate his hush-money agreements with them. Or maybe he’s Glenda’s roommate in the rehab facility.

  24. P.D. says:

tom@21, I’m not a conspricy person, but he also skipped on the ‘912′ protest, didn’t he? And Michelle’s rally could have used his illuminating presence. And as for Limpballs. I don’t think ANY winger wants to be seen with him.

    From Zaid’s post;

If it does turn out that Beck’s “amazing” nurses happen to be members of the SEIU, will he retract the statements he has made condemning the union or will he continue on his McCarthyite tirade?

I vote ‘continue McCarthyite tirade’. Glenda has neither the decency nor the common sense to shut the frack up, especially when he thinks he’s on a roll with a subject.

  26. linzloo08 says:

Is he dumb enough to know that unions are a gooood thing for the economy or is he just oppor-tun-istic (a big word, for all you rightwingers who can’t read or understand things) enough to bash unions because we’re in a bad economy and people are scared of losing their jobs, and they’re looking for someone or something to blame?.

  27. Liz Morrison says:

Blech and the usual Rushpub hypocricy…how typical.

It reminds me of a story written years ago (during a union drive effort, at a LARGE Georgia based airline) by a union supporter…about how every single day, we see (and sometimes encounter) proud and dedicated union members…Police, Fire, Nurses, City and State workers, and even some on retail levels.

The day to day bashing by hypocrites like Blech make me sick…Creeps like him and his ilk take advantage of everything good that unions have worked so hard for…and then put a knife in their backs.

Mr. Blech…get well…BUT I REALLY hope you had a LOT of pain.

Still, it’s a big hospital. Things happen.

Wouldn’t it be great if the people who help Beck – for example, the nurses who insert and remove his catheter – to tell him, preferably BEFORE the procedure, “Oh, and BTW – I belong to the SEIU. Just thought you should know”…

    …then just smile.

    EnnuiDivine says:
Calling Hoffman a libertarian is an insult to libertarians.

You are correct. Hoffman is a Libertarian and not a libertarian. The former is an organized political party while the latter is a philosophy. The Libertarians have grafted an economic theory to the libertarian philosophy espoused by Thoreau and Emerson. This economic theory was pushed by Ayn Rand. However, if you look at Thoreau and Emerson, they say very little about economic theory. Their libertarian philosophy concerned the rights of an individual and the state. They were anti-government but their philosophy was borne out of social issues. Both Thoreau and Emerson dabbled with a communal living for a bit. The Libertarians have hijacked and perverted the true libertarian philosophy.

You guys here are amazing. Most of the comments seem to be filled with personal attacks against Glenn. He’s a true patriot in my book because he’s trying to wake up America to the radical direction this country has taken. The liberal, secular, religious hating ethos being promoted in our “separation of Church & state” schools and colleges has yielded a devasting effect on the minds of so many Americans and it shows in the promotion of the homosexual lifestyle, the rejection of relgious values, especially, the 10 commandments, the heinous and gruesome practice of child killing AKA abortion, fetal stem cell research, euthanasia, etc, et. To me, it seems that Glenn is hated is because secular, liberals who do not practice or believe in traditional American values like believing in God and going to Church on Sundays, hard work and reliance on God and not the government, low taxes, and limited government ( with safety nets for those who cannot fend for themselves). Liberals want the government to do everything for them instead of being responsible for your own God-given destiny. And they hate anyone who reminds them that they are not living “right”. We have all been programmed by having the natural law of God inscribed in our hearts to know right from wrong. But many have abused their free will to reject that law as well as the 10 commandments and they rage at anyone who reminds them of their sinfulness. Just remember, in the end, we will all be judged by Almighty God and if you want to live with Him for all eternity in blissful, and eternal happiness, you have to live righteously according to the way He intended and above all, worship Him in the way that He intended. Rejection of God and His Law of Love will result in our eternal separation from Him in an awful place called “Hell”. Do the right thing and seek His Truth, which is manifested fully and revealed in the teachings of Jesus Christ, the 2nd person of the Blessed Trinity. Please stop attacking Glenn and work on your own relationship with God and His Church. Peace!

While I don’t condone personal attacks against anyone, including Beck, I can categorically state he is no patriot. His faux patriotism as well as many other conservatives is a shrill cry because we have a black president. The radical was George Bush and the Republicans who passed the Patriot Act which attempted to abrogate our rights under the US Constitution. All the rest of you post is religious garbage. Um, you’re not really conservative if you belive in those things – as shown by today’s conservatives. They talk of believing in God, yet revel in bloodshed and “shock and awe” devastation. They talk of hard work, yet look for government handouts, via their lobbyists. They talk of limited government, yet they use it to enrich themselves and their cronies. They don’t even talk about safety nets to help the less fortunate. Their mantra is “I got mine, Jack.”

Peas on you too, acard944. Would you quit whining now? I’ve been watching people like you, starting with the Birchers in the late 50s, screeching and frothing at the mouth about the decline and fall of our civilization. I wish it would just hurry up and get it over with, so you people would stop yelping and turn to, but no, that isn’t what’s really happening.

What’s really happening, acard, is that the progressives and liberals are trying to improve this society and this nation, create a true environment of liberty and freedom, and you pseudo-conservatives are kicking and screaming every inch of the way. You want a nice lock-step way of life; believing only in what your neighbor believes and vice-versa; rejecting anything that comes out of scientific research, unless it makes money for your employer or doesn’t contradict your sacred superstitions, and on and on. You want everybody to pack their butts into the same pew at the same church every Sunday to listen to the same idiot deliver a homily which is one part common sense to nine parts presumptuous assumption, with a few lies and falsehoods sprinkled on for spice; then you want everybody to engage in a nice round of groupthink, just to make sure there aren’t any dissenters or heretics in the room.

Why don’t you take your ‘one size fits all’ belief system and shove it where the sun don’t shine – right up GlendaBeck’s bum.
