Lawsuit alleges that New York Post DC bureau chief’s goal was ‘to destroy’ Obama

NYPost-Logo2The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein reports today that a fired New York Post employee, Sandra Guzman, has filed a complaint against the Post, the paper’s parent company News Corp., and Post editor-in-chief Col Allan “alleging harassment as well as ‘unlawful employment practices and retaliation.’” Stein reports that Guzman “paints the Post newsroom as a male-dominated frat house and Allan in particular as sexist, offensive and domineering. Guzman alleges that she and others were routinely subjected to misogynistic behavior.” But in addition to horrible workplace conditions, the Post’s news division is operating with a clear partisan bias, according to Guzman. She said the Post’s Washington D.C. bureau chief vowed to bring down President Obama:

She says that hiring practices at the paper — as well as her firing — were driven by racial prejudices rather than merit.

And she recounts the paper’s D.C. bureau chief stating that the publication’s goal was to “destroy [President] Barack Obama.”

Guzman’s revelation isn’t all that surprising considering that a Senior Vice President at Fox News, also a News Corp. subsidiary, admitted earlier this year that the network is consciously aiming to be “the voice of opposition” to the Obama administration “on some issues.”

Next we’ll be hearing that the Wall Street Journal had an agenda to oppose Obama as well…..

  4. Zooey says:

This guy is sexist, offensive and domineering? SHOCKER!!

  5. EnnuiDivine says:

    Yeah, I’ll believe it.

The NY Post has about as much credibility as the Sun. Or the National Inquirer, for that matter.

  6. barfly says:

Legislate a new Fairness Doctrine. Anything else is a worthless half-measure, that won’t rein in these journalistic abuses.

  7. MrWombat says:

OMG! I don’t believe it! Not the NY Post. I though the media was liberal. /snarcasm

  8. katy says:

    well, thanks, sandra… really… takes guts…

NO MORE THAN IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN 9 DAMN MONTHS AGO.

even IF it is mostly out of personal spite, and probably wholly…

but, your voice does add credence…

  9. pags2 says:

Guzman “paints the Post newsroom as a male-dominated frat house and Allan in particular as sexist, offensive and domineering.

Geez-I am surprised by this. Sarcasm intended.

  10. missmolly says:

It’s one thing to consciously be the “voice of opposition” on “some issues”.

It’s quite another thing to actively attempt to “destroy” the POTUS.

However, neither one of these indicates journalistic objectivity.

Real journalism may not be completely dead, but it sure appears to be on life support.

like a rotting fish, news corpse is rotting from the head down.

  12. Jane E. Schneider says:

Considering the Post’s dwindling readership, I doubt that they’ll get very far with the ‘destroy Obama’ agenda. The only thing I’ve ever looked at in the Post is the Puzzle Page.

  13. dbadass says:

I never liked a newspaper that doesn’t fold on an equatorial plane. It is just a thing I have…

db, it’s funny anyway, wrong thread notwithstanding.

  19. Skyler says:

I wouldn’t even use the NY Post to line the bottom of a bird cage.

  20. Zooey says:

    Rotting in moderation:

    From the lawsuit:

“On one occasion when Ms. Guzman and three female employees of the Post were sharing drinks at an after-work function. Defendant Allan approached the group of women, pulled out his blackberry and asked them ‘What do you think of this?’ On his blackberry was a picture of a naked man lewdly and openly displaying his p*nis. When Ms. Guzman and the other female employees expressed their shock and disgust at being made to view the picture, Defendant Allan just smirked… [N]o investigation was ever conducted and the Company failed to take any steps to address her complaints.”

Whatta guy, huh? Who thinks of doing crap like this?

  21. Zooey says:

Is anyone else getting TP in “text only?”

    Annoying.

  22. Rab says:

Repugs don’t surprise me at all, it’s a disgusting part of the human psyche that repugs have. Look at the troll comments and you can see it.

  23. Badger says:

Ronald Reagan said famously , that the scariest words in the English language were…”I’m from the Govt,, and I’m Here to help you”.

This is what is at stake.
Destroy Obama, and you destroy the Notion that the Govt. can be a force for progress to help the American People.

People didn’t used to buy Reagan’s dark vision. People looked to the Govt. to Fix the Great Depression and win World War II.

The Republicans are scared to death that America will regain FAITH in Govt. to solve problems. They and their Backer$$$ rely on Public Cynicism, and the Free For all Deregulation that it allows.

Zooey, TP was messing up for a bit a little while ago, but it’s back to normal now. Whatever it is, I noticed that it doesn’t seem to have affected the Zoo.

  26. Zooey says:

Jane, it’s still messed up for me. Maybe the fix takes longer to get across the tubes and wires out West. ;)

  27. dbadass says:

    Hi Jane
    I adore that film.

  28. Jane E. Schneider says:

Badger, good point. Which, of course, leads to the oft-asked question, ‘why does a party that portrays government as evil want to run the government?’

  29. Jane E. Schneider says:

db, it’s one of our faves, too. “Meowwww!” “Get that cat outta here!”

  30. Jane E. Schneider says:

Zooey, the dumptrucks got stuck in Jersey, but they’re on their way…

  31. Badger says:

    Jane,

IMHO…the reason is SABOTAGE. Look at what they are trying to do to the health care bill.

They want to run the Government , all right,…into the ground.

  32. MadasHelinVA says:

How may more ‘voices of opposition’ does President Obama need since it appears that Faux Noise consistently opposes ANYTHING and EVERYTHING he says or does? And I might add that the WaPo has also lowered itself to include primarily reich wing editorials; George Will, Chas Krauthammer, David Broder, etc. Used to read it, but have stopped since they all promote the rotten GOP agenda and I have that up the whazzoo.

  33. RUCerious says:

The New Your Post, a fine News Paper, lots of interesting commentary, and the political cartoons.

Remember the one of the chimp shot by two cops back in the beginning of the year, so funny, and the apology of the fine Murdoch.

Rumor has it the fish houses refuse to wrap their fish in the rag. They claim is it may effect the oder of the fish.

  39. kasinca says:

Same smear and hate as they have on FAUX…same group of incompetent haters paid for by Rupert Murdoch.

  41. Xisithrus says:

Im wondering if Murdoch secretly owns the World Net Daily site.

  42. Rodeskawler says:

I think Obama will find it just as easy to destroy himself.

If he signs the disgusting Mandated-Purchase of For-Profit Wealthcare: A Corporate Welfare Hand Out Extravaganza that NAFTA Nancy just gave us and actually bragged about, he doesn’t need all of the media to lift a finger.

The only way he will get two terms is if we don’t have to endure this crap until after 2112, but laugh as you may, we will see Republican majorities again in the House and Senate, and my guess is by the end of his second term they will impeach him for trivial nonsense like they did Clinton, even though Clinton played the Republican game and threw away over 20 million manufacturing jobs beginning with NAFTA. I would say Clinton got played, but I hear he is doing well these years.

  43. evangenital says:

The Post is a neo-con rag.

    No surprise here…

  44. flavorino says:

Ruprick Murdoch is a piece of shit.

I don’t understand why we let a foreign billionaire P.T Barnum type buy up American media so he can feed the public crap and play the American people for suckers with his propaganda machine.

  45. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Why do we allow a foreigner like Murdoch to divide our country with the trash he allows to be spewed on our airwaves and in print? I swear the guy has some diabolical plan to not only take down President Obama but to also take down our whole country!

  47. CarmanK says:

Who would have thought the Aussie’s were such male chauvinist pigs!! At least the ones that work for Rupert Murdoch. There is too much media power in the hands of Murdoch. This is a man who wants Obama to fail and approves of Beck’s calling the President a racist. The pen is mightier than the sword. And Murdoch is using his “pen and ink” to undermine our president and threaten our democracy. He is an economic aristocrat, citizen of the world and a global mogul. He has no loyalty to country, only to the wealth he can accumulate and the power he wields.
