Lou Dobbs to announce departure from CNN tonight.
The New York Times reports that CNN anchor Lou Dobbs plans to announce on his show tonight that he is leaving the network, effective immediately. Dobbs has been the target of pro-immigration activists who launched two campaigns, Drop Dobbs and Basta Dobbs, aimed at pressuring CNN to “hold Mr. Dobbs to journalistic standards” or dump him altogether. Dobbs had become “a publicity nightmare” for CNN in recent months. His next stop could be the Fox Business network. Dobbs met with Fox chief Roger Ailes to discuss a potential position a couple of months ago.
Update In his departure statement, Dobbs -- who previously mulled a run for governor of New Jersey -- seemed to hint at a possible run for elected office. "Some leaders in media, politics, and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving," he said. "At this point, I am considering a number of options," he continued, proceeding to lay out his view of "the major issues of our time." Efforts need to be made to break the gridlock of "partisanship and ideology," Dobbs explained, adding, "I'll be working diligently to change that." "I thank you and may God bless you," he concluded. This is great news! I can start watching CNN again. I miss Anderson Cooper, and while I still followed my favorite CNN folks online, I decided to no longer watch their TV channel as long as that lying hypocrite had employment with them.

I myself would much rather have discussions with people I disagree with, because I find that to be more insightful, and I learn more about my own feelings and opinions too. But finding reasonable people that are also conservatives are getting fewer and farther between. I’m not implying that conservatives are disappearing necessarily. I just think that the reasonable ones are afraid of getting eaten alive by their rabid and ignorant bretheren.
Fortunately for me, I have several conservative friends that are a blast to debate with, and while we rarely change each other’s minds or positions, it has happened in a few areas.

People who disagree with the general consensus here are almost always labelled stupid or wacko. One can rarely find a meaningful, reasoned discussion amongst all of the name calling. I also frequently find that any comment containing a dissenting opinion is “voted down” and not visible. Is this what we’ve come to? If we truly “think progress”, how do we expect to make any if we are constantly insulting anyone who is not already on our side?

Obama is one who carefully considers his moves, despite ridicule from his opponents to hurry it up and decide; Obama ignores them and their shallow, short term thinking.

That being said, and forgive if I’m babbling because it’s 2 am (and I don’t know why I’m even up, though reading this entertaining thread might be one of those reasons…) I am glad that Dobbs has been fired/dismissed/whatever it might have been that prompted CNN to do this. I think frankly the poor man’s just lost it in recent years, and that’s unfortunate, since apparently, he used to be an ok dude. Whether it’s because these are his true colors or something happened (maybe he hit his head?), I don’t know, I don’t know him personally, I don’t watch his show and I don’t plan on turning the channel to CNN during that time slot in the near future.
But, CNN has clearly made their decision, Dobbs has been ousted, and it’s likely both parties will be better off separated from one another. Maybe CNN will do better or Dobbs will loosen up a little. Either way, as they say, que sera, sera.

For me–several years ago–I thought he was reasonably rational on some issues. It’s been recently–in the past year or so–he seems to be seeking a higher top to go over.
On his final show, during a discussion of whether the Fort Hood murders had some underlying radical Muslim connection that he responded to one of his panel’s comment, “That would be speculation.” that Lou became incensed and blurted, “When did it become wrong to speculate?”
For me, he has forgotten there are fences beyond which a responsible commentator does not go. I can only speculate that he has abandoned what I would call good taste in search of the higher ratings notoriety seems to bring.
Unfortunately, the quest for higher ratings too often leaves behind those who are willing and able to act and retains the malcontents who complain but do nothing constructive in response.
The bottom line is that CNN had the good sense, finally, to eliminate a sea anchor. Let’s hope they replace him with someone more rational and sensitive.
