Rep. Steve King calls Obama administration the ‘gangster government.’

Rep. Steve King (R-IA), one of the right wing’s most shameless hate-mongers, has propagated all sorts of baseless attacks on Obama. For example, he has said Obama will make America a “totalitarian dictatorship,” that Obama was raised by polygamists, and that “radical Islamists” would be “dancing in the streets” if Obama was elected. In an interview with the Washington News Observer, King offered his latest diatribe, calling Obama’s team of advisers the “gangster government”:

Valerie Jarrett is a product of Chicago politics. This is power politics through Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama, son and daughter of Saul Alinsky, linked up with Mayor Daley, the one that actually hired Michelle Obama and put her into that link, which may have well been the link that put Barack Obama into that machine. The Chicago Machine, we know what it is. Someone called it gangster government. In Chicago, you have gangester government and Valerie Jarrett’s been in the middle of that. She’s been brokering power for a long time.

Watch it:

King’s attack on Valerie Jarrett comes on the heels of Glenn Beck’s repeated screeds against her on his show.

Update U.S. News' Michael Barone apparently "coined the term." The "gangster government" talking point appeared to have first been introduced on the House floor by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) in June:

Yeah, man, that Obama is a pansy Jimmy Carter type who murders his enemies Chicago-style. A total Chamberlain-appeasment Hitler-facist, you dig? This Muslim Athiest takes his marching orders directly from Reverend Wright. That’s why he hasn’t changed anything except for turning America into a Socialist wasteland.

P.S. Health care is death, pass it on.

Watch out, vote-down troll; Obama will have you ground up to fill one of his Chicago-style pizzas. Did I mention Chicago?

  7. chiroptera toasterhead says:

I’m so confused. Is the Obama administration a do-nothing government that hasn’t fixed the economy or created jobs or accomplished anything, or is it a totalitarian dictatorship that has completely overturned the foundations of capitalism and democracy?

If the conservanuts are right, it’s both. How can that be?

  17. EnnuiDivine says:

It’s one thing to level charges and accusations against the current administration based on fact and rational discourse.

King, however, is a delusional ass. He’s destined to fill the role for the Obama administration that Dan Burton had during the Clinton administration.

Remember Dan Burton? The one who shot a pumpkin in his backyard to show that Clinton had Vince Foster murdered? The one who believed Clinton had his Secretary of Commerce assassinated in Croatia and covered up to look like a plane crash?

Playing to your base is one thing; every politician does it. Rep. King’s base seems to consist of mental patients and Birchers.

The absence of any real facts in this diatribe is just stunning. “Some call it a gangster government,” “nefarious …” On WHAT BASIS does this guy get off calling it “gangster?” Is King bringing in elements of racism here? And what is so nefarious about the Obama administration? Did Obama declare two wars, one based on lies, both of which have bankrupted our country? Out an undercover CIA agent? Tap our phones illegally? Hold prisoners without trial for YEARS?
    Oh. That was Bush-Cheney …

  35. krazeeinjun says:

If the Obama administration is a “gangster government”, then it stands to reason, if we use Rep. Pennsylvanianne says: Did Obama [...] Tap our phones illegally? Hold prisoners without trial for YEARS?

    All valid points.

However, I for one have no clue if the phone-tapping has been stopped, and Obama now ‘owns’ the prisoners held without trial, about which he has done nothing.

In the last case especially he has a huge problem in that he’s dependent on the intelligence community and the military whilst we are still ‘engaged’ in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Once we end those involvements, he should be able to do something about the illegally held prisoners. I doubt there will be any accountability though, just closure and compensation.

  50. galmud says:

With Kings attack I count at least 29 instances since inauguration where a influential prominent right-winger (member of Congress, talk-radio/TV host, journalist etc) has publicly compared Obama to mobsters, thugs and criminals.

Of course they never offer any rational explanations for their accusations, just guilt by association, insinuations, and speculations. Obama once met with X, ergo Obama=X and since Obama=X his administration is a gangster government

That’s cause you haven’t studied conservalogic. See, that’s just the conservalogic Law of Associative Syllogism. Meeting with X, speaking with X, living in the same city as X, serving on a committee with X, being endorsed by X, makes you equivalent to X by association. Then you just follow through to Y, Z, and beyond by the Law of Slippery Slopage.

  53. republicanSScareme says:

Well, it looks like Rep. King has finally flipped his wig.

Mental illness is a serious problem and people should not joke about it. Although Rep. King has been an “invitee” at numerous psychiatric care homes, it now appears he will be a permanent guest at one of them.

For years, people have speculated about Rep. King’s disturbing personality. Although alcohol and drugs were suspected, Rep. King refused to be examined by competent medical personnel. He had his friends do his checkups and mental stability tests.

In an exclusive interview with republicanSScareme, King revealed that he had spent his youth living in a “hippy camp” with Glenn Beck. “Let’s just say we were out in the woods,” King explained. He and Glenn used to discuss their superstitions and fear of witches. “Glenn thought he was a witch,” King revealed. “I never disagreed with him because he would get real mad.”

“I never thought I was a witch, but I did think I was a gobbollin,” King added. “I just never thought I would flip before I was 70.”

Condolence cards can be sent to Rep. King at the Tescadero State Mental Hospital.

You guys and Kudlow need to get on the stick: “Gangster Government” isn’t a new term.

It’s been around for decades, and it’s pure dogwhistle to the teabagger crowd.

It’s chapter and verse in their cannon, just like “we the people,” or “patriot,” or “militia.” When any politician mentions any of these terms he’s screaming out to the wackos — that he’s one of them, that he believes the gov’t wants to swoop down in black helicopters, that the income tax is unconstitutional, that Tim McVeigh and David Koresh were heros murdered by the gov’t, that the Fed should be abolished, and that gold is the only legitimate medium of exchange.

Hm. Need proof. Allegations are like opinions; any arse can spout one.

OTOH, it has been demonstrated over and over again in the last couple of years by the Republipimps that they have the “Creeps” and the “Buggers” in their legislative group and in the former administration. And no proof is needed; they keep outing themselves. Going out on them lonesome hikes to the Appalachian Trail or the men’s room at the Minneapolis airport.

In this case, I think I’ll stay with the Democratic Party. Sometimes the people you don’t know are better than the devils you do. Well, not do; I wouldn’t do a Republipimp on a double dare ya bet. (There’s an implied ‘know’ after ‘devils you do”. Makes for a terrible double entendre, but what the heck, it’s late…)
