This afternoon, Fox News host Gregg Jarrett proudly announced that Sarah Palin is “continuing to draw huge crowds while she’s promoting her brand new book. Take a look at — these are some of the pictures just coming into us.” But the pictures that the network chose to display on-air appeared to be old file footage of Palin rallies from the 2008 presidential campaign. Individuals in the crowd are seen holding McCain/Palin signs, and others are holding pom-poms and cheering wildly. “There’s a crowd of folks,” an enthused Jarrett observed, referring to the old footage. Watch it:
The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart recently caught Fox News’ Sean Hannity displaying crowd shots from a rally earlier this year to claim that a recent GOP health care protest drew a larger audience than it actually did. Hannity later acknowledged that he “screwed up.”
Another day, another Fox News “screw up”.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:08 pmFox Viewer: No, no, they just really liked those signs that’s all…There were 1.2 million people at the Palin book-signing I went to…really…
November 18th, 2009 at 5:08 pmAt this point, I think Fox is having fun with it. They don’t give a hoot if they are caught faking it – their base doesn’t care. It’s probably extra fun for the team if they slip one by libruls now and then, though.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:08 pmFox “News” lies again, why am I not suprised again?
November 18th, 2009 at 5:10 pmLike Palin, FOX simply doesn’t care about telling the truth, nor getting caught at it. I’m still surprised Hannity even acknowledged John Stewart’s piece. These people know the mindless minions that worship at their altar of bigotry, hatred and untruths also don’t care – as long as the left is being skewered, the facts are but an inconvenience to be ignored.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:11 pmIt not Fox News – its the Fox SciFi Channel – it’s a whole different reality.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:12 pmAh, first out of the gate, it’s Rupert’s very own candidate, the Fox News Whore.
These guys better get their agit-prop chops in order or Rupert will have their lunch. Old footage? Year old footage or older? Damnit, can’t they get some homeless folks and retirees in there to the book signing????
November 18th, 2009 at 5:13 pmFox using propaganda story’s are so common now i don’t even read half of em.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:13 pmAt this point, I suspect Fox News is blatantly doing things like this because they know they’ll get exposure on The Daily Show. Or the Colbert Report. Or anywhere else that they’ve become comedic fodder.
Heck, they went to court to protect their right to lie. And now they’re just getting mileage out of it.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:15 pmFor people who have a real problem with history, Faux is pretty good at hitting the archives when it suits them.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:15 pmAnother inadvertent advertent mistake, no doubt that is what Hannity will say again. Wish all the cable shows would quit talking about her and giving her free ads for her book.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:17 pmFox is pretty much aiming at the mindless 20 percenters who will believe anything the Holy Trinity of Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck spew forth (O’Reilly would be the 4th prong of the trinity since most of the 20 percenters can’t count anyway)
November 18th, 2009 at 5:17 pmFox doesn’t care if their sham is exposed — by that time, today’s news is history, people will have forgotten, but the subliminal message that “Sarah Palin is really popular” will linger.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:20 pmIt’s like a misbehaving child’s desperate cry for attention.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:20 pmWhile it is probably not true that Palin is drawing large crowds, the few lame geegawers that do show up are probably large, sloppy trailer trash who drool over Beckerhead and imPalin.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:22 pmTRANSCRIPT:
“Sarah Palin [1]continuing to draw huge crowds [2]while she’s promoting her brand new book…”
[3]CHYRON: “Palin’s Drawing Crowds—Happening NOW”
“Take a look at—these are some of the pictures [4]jjst coming into us you can see, the lines earlier had formed this morning. There’s a crowd of folks—Sean Hanntiy is… ”
You can also see the ‘Country First’ placards, the microphones and the Teleprompter.
This is is not reporting, it is a)advertising for Palin’s book, b) political propaganda in its claims of Palin’s popularity and c) it is willful FRAUD!
The producer/director cued it knowing it was campaign footage, Garret reads the script. FRAUD!
Reason to pull FOX’s FCC licence.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:24 pmBad enough that they tried this again after getting caught on it just a week or so before (by a commedian, none the less).
Do we have a pattern established yet ????? And what does this say that they think of the sheeple ?
But this one doesn’t even look like a book signing. It looks like basketball arena seating.
And when are they gonna figure out the youtubes ?
November 18th, 2009 at 5:25 pmCome on GOP, bring her on !! Palin 2012, that would be the most entertaining show in history, it would be so fun to watch, and since the GOP is not serious about politics then let’s make the 2012 reelection campaign at least fun to watch.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:26 pmSarah is out there today touting how she will defend the constitution, but when the constitution doesn’t suit her, she is quick to dismiss it.
For instance, within the last day she was talking about ignoring civil rights, profiling people who are not WASPs.
She’s all for taking away a woman’s civil rights in removing her rights insofar as contraception and abortion — but that of course is AFTER she made her choice in her last pregnancy — but she will deny other women who choose differently.
Constitutionally, she is a moron. But her followers believe her inane utterances because they don’t think either.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:26 pmmissmolly: Heck, they went to court to protect their right to lie.
Dammit, that’s right. The court did rule that they could lie. Well done ‘teh court’(a**holes).
Swearing BAD! LYING? GOOD!!
November 18th, 2009 at 5:28 pmFox lied again? Of course they did.
Getting awfully sick of hearing about Failin’ Palin…I wish the moron would just fall off the face of the earth.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:29 pmPathetic! I was watching Nora O’Donnel on Hardball and she said that one guy in line to get his Palin book signed said that Palin was more qualified than all of the men who ran for president last year and that she’d protect the Constitution. More than the Constitutional Lawyer who actually won? This all white crowd is basically a bunch of inbreds, and fat slobs who would clearly benefit from healthcare and stupid teenaged girls who said Palin was a great role model for women? And teen pregnancy! Actually, I added the teen pregnancy because Bristol did!
November 18th, 2009 at 5:30 pmWow, the more desperate Fox gets, the more regularly they lie.
Pretty soon thier list of lies will outstrip the list of ones Palin tells in her book!
November 18th, 2009 at 5:31 pmFixed it for ya!!!
November 18th, 2009 at 5:32 pmOh I know what they’re going to do…they’re going to claim that it’s a joke….bait for John Stewart, satire.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:32 pm5th, there is no more fraud in the media. It is all infotainment, no responsibility. Caveat Emptor. If the viewing public hasn’t the ability to know the facts, it isn’t up to the media to provide them.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:34 pmSome people say that if you pay an extra dollar you can purchase a pre-signed book with the following stamped on the back cover:
[Sorry, you’ll have to imagine the font cause I can’t reproduce it here.]
November 18th, 2009 at 5:34 pmWhat a stupid, flippant, uninformed reply.
Look it up:
November 18th, 2009 at 5:35 pmNew World Communs. of Tampa, Inc. v. Akre, 866 So. 2d 1231(2003) This is a PDF File
There are no sexy photos of Sarah Palin as that would require her being sexy…
November 18th, 2009 at 5:37 pm31, there’s nothing wrong with being gay.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:39 pm—
I agree. I just don’t understand why the freaks get so uptight about that.
Oh I know what they’re going to do…they’re going to claim that it’s a joke….bait for John Stewart, satire.
It’s about time they admitted it. The Fraud-casting News-ish Sycophants have been pure satire from the day they went on the air. That satire has only become more pronounced over the years.
They’ll never own up to it, though. If they did, they would have to stop complaining about Daily Show parodies of them and having the President stiff them for interviews.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:40 pmNot a surprise you are quite blind.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:40 pmNew World Communications of Tampa, Inc., d/b/a WTVT-TV, a subsidiary

Didn’t read the first line?
November 18th, 2009 at 5:40 pmLike Hermann Goebbels, Fox News no longer tries to hide the fact that they constantly lie. For their brainwashed viewers, the lie that Sarah Palin is drawing huge crowds on her book tour is already an established fact, and getting caught red handed in this fraud will not alter their perception.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:42 pmTTTC
a)your newsbusters/olbermann link is a freaking joke, olbermann never passed those pictures off as being real
November 18th, 2009 at 5:47 pmb)FOX NEWS is supposed to report news, not MANUFACTURE IT.
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:47 pmAnd none so stupid as those who expect the rest of us to join them in their blindness…

OLBERCLINTON DID IT TOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
November 18th, 2009 at 5:52 pmdo they really think nobody is watching for this?
Fox News is either the most incompetent ‘news’ channel or they go well out of their way to deceive the public.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:54 pmTTTC,
and here’s Ratigan’s apology:

November 18th, 2009 at 5:55 pmWho are these people? What the Fox!
November 18th, 2009 at 6:02 pmTTTC
Ratigan’s bit about Palin was clearly a humorous piece, not presented as straight news reporting

Jebus. Those morons *never* learn, do they?!?
November 18th, 2009 at 6:03 pmI’m sure this gets lost among the trolls and the millions and millions of people waiting in line to see Flailin’(/snark), but…
Should the right really be supporting a person who QUIT her job GOVERNING the people, so she could abandon her family to make a ton of money on her Rouge Nation “book” tour???
November 18th, 2009 at 6:06 pmSeriously?
FOX Pravda
November 18th, 2009 at 6:09 pmHer book was written by Lynn Vincent and most probably also co-wrote by Robert Stacy McCain
November 18th, 2009 at 6:16 pmIf Palin were to write a book it would be 400 pages of You Betcha! Drill Here Drill Now! I dont believe in evolution!
November 18th, 2009 at 6:18 pmi often show up to book signings with pon-poms in hand, dont’cha know, also, too.
November 18th, 2009 at 6:20 pmDRxJ says: “Should the right really be supporting a person who QUIT her job GOVERNING the people, so she could abandon her family to make a ton of money on her Rouge Nation “book” tour???
Seriously?”
Seriously, Doc? :D
Joe The Plunger quit his pretend job to pursue a career of pretend jobs, all of which he has also quit (war correspondent, for example).
Bush quit being President the day after he took office, quit looking for Bin Laden, quit on Afghanistan, quit on his Mission to Mars, quit New Orleans and quit Iraq.
for the Right, quitting = “independence”
November 18th, 2009 at 6:23 pmBeing one who refuses to watch FAKE FAUX “News”, does anybody with a good stomach to watch, know the last time FAUX actually reported something straight, without having to “warp” the actual news or muck up the pictures being shown about what they are reporting?
November 18th, 2009 at 6:26 pmDylan Ratigan’s assinine clowning around on the morning show for comic relief?
The Fox cultist thinks this is equivalent to FOX News showing misleading videos to advance a narrative that an individual or organization has more popular support than they really have.
Whatever, cultist.
November 18th, 2009 at 6:34 pmAfter the Stewart/Hannity, Media Matters recommended people inform the FCC when FOX kept doing this.
fccinfo@fcc.gov
Just put a link to this article in your email. Maybe mention the Hannity thing too.
November 18th, 2009 at 6:41 pmCome on guys, we all know it was the Temp’s fault.
November 18th, 2009 at 6:43 pmSo. A third of the 3 million people watching FAUX are Democrats. That’s about a million people. I hate to break it to the stupid troll but, there’s a lot more than 2 million Democrats in this country so his claim that “50% of Democrats watch FAUX” is patently false.
November 18th, 2009 at 6:55 pmYou constantly hear from the left that Fox News is a “right-wing propaganda outfit” and that only Republicans watch it.
November 18th, 2009 at 7:01 pm—
No you don’t. I don’t watch tv but I occassional listen to RUSH and laugh my ass off that so many people actually believe he believes what he says. It can be oh so amusing…

November 18th, 2009 at 7:10 pmA new Pew poll as in hold your nose. They do when they do the poll.
November 18th, 2009 at 7:27 pmIt was inadvertent, you liberal swine!
November 18th, 2009 at 7:29 pmCould you provide a link for that poll?
November 18th, 2009 at 7:30 pmNope. “Inadvertent” would usually be restricted to isolated incidents. FAUX, on the other hand, has establish a regular pattern of using faked footage. From putting a (D) after Larry Craig’s name to using footage of one crowd to give the impression that a particular event was more heavily attended than the reality. After the first few repetitions? It’s no longer inadvertent.
November 18th, 2009 at 7:37 pmDon’t ever forget Fox went to court to retain the RIGHT TO LIE TO VIEWERS. They cited 1st Amendment issues and WON.
November 18th, 2009 at 8:09 pmThe POX Circus is so corrupt it’s hilarious. Maybe we all can sue Murdoch for all the money he makes presenting fiction as fact, and put it all towards medicare.
November 18th, 2009 at 8:30 pmBegin Rant.
I am so friggin po’d. Walk in my door after a good days work and my Newsweek is sitting there with this FREAKY excuse for a human glaringly plastered all over the front cover!
Did not even take the time to put my stuff I was carrying down. Picked up the magazine and unceramonously shredded it with my bare hands.
I feel better now ;-)
End Rant
November 18th, 2009 at 9:19 pmTTTC says: \
A new Pew poll completely smashes the narrative that far-left cretins have been pushing about Fox News. You constantly hear from the left that Fox News is a “right-wing propaganda outfit” and that only Republicans watch it. Clear thinking Americans have always known that to be nonsense, and a brand new Pew survey proves it.
Firwst of all, your premise is completely false. yes, we do say that Fox news Channel is a right wiong propaganda machine because that happens to be a fact. But I, for one, have never said that “only Republicans watch it.” Don’t know who fed you that line but it’s not true. We don’t say that.
Their annual survey of cable news audiences now shows:
?FNC: 39% Republican, 33% Democratic, 22% Independent
?CNN: 18% Republican, 51% Democratic, 23% Independent
?MSNBC: 18% Republican, 45% Democratic, 27% Independent
So when Fox News claims to be “Fair and Balanced” that apparently also extends to their audience. Does this mean that since it’s mostly Democrats who watch CNN and MSNBC that those channels are “left-wing propaganda outfits?”
Your conclusion is so far off the mark as to be laughable. Fox News Channel is neither fair nor “balanced”. They are a right-wing propaganda machine and are not in the least bit interested in the objective truth. And your other conclusion that the political affiliation of the audidence determines the political leanings of the content of those networks is just plain stupid reasoning.
November 18th, 2009 at 9:51 pmFox News airs old footage from 2008 Palin rallies . John Amato files an FCC complaint
by John Amato
http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/fox-news-airs-old-footage-2008-palin-ra
Think Progress caught Fox News using old campaign footage of a McCain/Palin rally from 2008 to make it appear like the crowds she’s drawing on her book tour are larger than they are.

Could you provide a link for that poll?
It’s actually right here: http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1395/partisanship-fox-news-and–other-cable-news-audiences
And you’ll note that while TTTC managed to quote the “data”, s/he also failed to quote the very next lines from the actual poll itself in regards as to how to interpret that data:
TTTC also failed to report Pew’s other poll: Where you get your main source of news?
There’s a lot more I could point out to debunk TTTC’s interpretation of the first poll, but I’ll just let the second poll’s reflection on it stand on its own.
The rest of the poll interpretation was pretty interesting too.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:34 pmOr they could have shown the actual crowd, all five of them, and simply run the banner as “Sarah Palin (D) is cheered by her supporters…”
November 18th, 2009 at 11:49 pmThank you bluesunflower,
That’s funny actually, because one of the first things I thought after looking TTTC’s post with the poll numbers was that the numbers seemed to add up to a lot more democrats than republicans or independents in this country.
Also as Wayne A. Schneider mentioned the breakdown of the audience does not determine the impartiality of the show.
And there’s another way to look at these poll numbers. It appears to me that Democrats get their news from some diverse news sources, while it looks like nearly all republicans get their news from Fox alone.
November 19th, 2009 at 12:32 amCan I just say that Norah O’Donnell on MsNBC today was in Grand rapids and in her report, she said “thousands” were in line just before she said about 1500 people were in line… It would be more appropriate that she say “hundreds.”
And… it was very telling about the daughter of a man that was in line had on a T-shirt that said something to the effect of “We had a $$$ bailout and all I got was this lousy t-shirt. ” When NOD corrected her and told her that Palin was actually FOR the bailout but against the stimulus… the girl looked stunned. NOD, to her credit, asked her if that changed her opinion of Palin any… and the girl said “no.”
Human nature demonstrated for all to see… when presented with real facts about Palin, her supporters continue to support her. They are that blinded by the shiny new object in their midst.
November 19th, 2009 at 1:02 amI grew up in Grand Rapids Liberty Lover.
take it from me.. it was the obvious choice for kicking off her tour.. there’s a church on every corner.
The population is largely dutch christian conservative.. probably her biggest showing of the tour – and they had to fake the footage..
November 19th, 2009 at 1:45 amshe’s failin.. and FOX is flailin..
they even have ‘Palin’s Drawing Crowds’ as the headline..
and fake footage. again. sad.
November 19th, 2009 at 1:47 amGood for John Amato of Crooks and Liars for filing the FCC complaint!
November 19th, 2009 at 8:40 amA few years ago some enterprising reporters hired by a Florida Fux News station resisted their management’s demand to include “information” in their reportage they knew to be false. They refused to include the lies in their story and were promptly fired. The reporters then sued the station for wrongful termination and won- only to lose on appeal.
November 19th, 2009 at 10:31 amThe Fair and Balanced bilge pump successfully argued that it had a constitutionally protected freedom of speech right to lie to the public.
Funny, I didn’t hear Fox news state that the footage they were showing was that of her book signings.
November 19th, 2009 at 11:29 amCould it possibly be a tactic used by ALL media outlets? How daring of Fox to level the playing field!
The mainstream media can dish it out, but they sure can’t take it.
You know, after viewing that again, I have to say that it is quite a good chop job.
November 19th, 2009 at 11:39 amI don’t know who did it, but “thinkprogress” may as well call themselves the “National Enquirer”, for deliberately posting such an obviously bogus clip.
Pssst, doughpro? Kinda hard for it to be a ThinkProgress “chop job” with “an obviously bogus clip” when FOX itself readily admits ThinkProgress was right.
