Following ThinkProgress’ report yesterday that Fox News had recycled old file footage of Sarah Palin rallies to assert that she is currently getting huge turnouts on her book tour, the network issued an on-air apology this afternoon. Fox’s Happening Now co-host Jane Skinner said it was mistake, but didn’t explain how it happened:
In the tease before the segment — the tease to commercial — we told you how those people were already lining up to meet Palin. The problem is, we didn’t actually show you the video we were referencing. Instead, we mistakenly aired what’s called file tape of Sarah Palin. We didn’t mean to mislead anybody in that tease. It was a mistake. And for that, we apologize.
Watch it:
The Swamp reported earlier that Fox News may take “serious disciplinary action” against control room staffers over the incident. The on-air apology made no reference to such action.
And by “serious disciplinary actions”, they mean “promotions”.

Suuuuuuuuure
November 19th, 2009 at 1:38 pmI’m throwing the BS flag on this, I’ve seen FUX get caught like 4 or 5 times in the past 2 weeks with this stunt. It’s deliberate, intentional, and utterly inexcusable.
November 19th, 2009 at 1:38 pm.
What do you expect from a station that continually fails at comprehending the differences…
… between an R and a D?
… between last year and now?
… between honesty and lies?
If they were a start-up 24 hour “NEWS” channel attempting to break out and they pulled this crap, they would be laughed out of business. Sponsors would dry up. No commercial space purchased…
… They would have to resort to “Public Access” channels just to get affordable air time.
(not that PA doesn’t afford entertainment. quality is the Q.)
Too bad posterity holds much clout, NO?

bull$hit
November 19th, 2009 at 1:42 pmThey’re not sorry they did it – they’re just sorry that they got caught.
November 19th, 2009 at 1:43 pmAlthough this has happened twice in the last two weeks, it will happen again and again. This is SOP for Fox News. They only correct their mistakes when their arms are being twisted.
November 19th, 2009 at 1:45 pm.
What’s next?
.
November 19th, 2009 at 1:46 pmMan, these guys are getting more and more irrelevant with each passing day. They are great fodder for Jon Stewart.

I like how they made their “apology” during the mid-morning of a weekday on the “Happening Now” show ensuring that the least amount of people see it. Shouldn’t the apology be made by the Manatee in prime time as that is where the “mistake” happened? Maybe next time (it shouldn’t take long).
November 19th, 2009 at 1:48 pmee@14, Your obsession with trying to show us that one stupid page is strange. http://www.hide my stuff? Show us a legitimate web site, will ya?
November 19th, 2009 at 1:52 pmI wonder if this is a clever ploy by Fox to boost their ratings. Now more people are watching them to seewhen they make their next mistake. Cunning, no?

November 19th, 2009 at 1:53 pmHow many signatures would be needed to get Fox to drop the news portion of it’s TV network?

November 19th, 2009 at 2:00 pmI work in TV, it was no mistake, they just got caught is all.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:00 pmWhy is this woman apologizing? Was she responsible for the “mix up?”
November 19th, 2009 at 2:02 pmHearing Fox News apologize is like seeing a dog walking on its hind legs. One doesn’t expect it to be done well; one is surprised to see it done at all.
With apologies to Samuel Johnson.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:03 pmWhy would Fox discipline their employees for doing their jobs?
November 19th, 2009 at 2:05 pmSomeone’s got a raging pustular case of VDT.
Ick.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:06 pmIs Fox still using the phrase “Homicide Bomber?” What a bunch of fools.

November 19th, 2009 at 2:10 pmDid not mention that it was campaign footage that crept its way in.
Now, I am inclined to believe the FOXes. I mean, it would be extremely easy to mix up the tape that the videographer just brought into the studio from today’s event with the tape that the intern had to hunt up in the files in the storage room.
/snark off

It is just astonishing how stupid and pathetic you are. You are an embarassment to the entire human race
November 19th, 2009 at 2:12 pmHow did FOX even THINK they could get away with this when they just got caught doing the same thing a week or so ago?
November 19th, 2009 at 2:13 pm.

“ADVERTISING”
.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:14 pmI wonder if TTTC refers to the Dr. Tiller murderer as a “Christian Soldier” and urges him “onward”?
November 19th, 2009 at 2:14 pmTTTC
Why dont you do yourself a favor and go pour yourself a nice steaming hot cup of STFU? Havent you humiliated yourself enough today with your epic stupidity?
November 19th, 2009 at 2:14 pmFox intentionally does this because, as others have noted, they do not care about the truth. They only care about Rep dogma and hate for Libs. How do I know? I have several family members who consistanly send me bs like Obama is a Muslim and Obama was born in Kenya from Fox and other RW extremists and when I point them to the truth the response is always…”It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not! We have to get the Socialists out!”
You can’t fight intentional ignorance! When someone has decided the truth doesn’t matter there is no point in further discussion. Their “truth” is set in stone and reality has little effect on them.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:15 pmI wish it was TTTCU – without the t’s (my tolerance has been Taxed Enough Already).

November 19th, 2009 at 2:16 pmTTTC is a schmuck, I’ve seen two days of his drivel and I can only guess he’s just doing this for a reaction. Because TTTC, if you really believe this garbage you spew, you need to be somewhere the rest of the thinking world can’t hear you.

Would you prefer to call them “soldiers of allah?” Or, how about “fun loving muslims?” Which one are you? Or, are you too ashamed to admit?

____________
If we’re referring to people who commit suicide in the act of bombing a target, then “suicide bomber” is a perfectly appropriate term. “Homicide bomber” applies to all types of bombs, whether worn on a vest, left in a mailbox, or dropped from a B-52.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:20 pmummmm toaster,
You do realize you are using logic on Twajie, right?
That’s like me ’splaining pathophysiology to my dog.
Oh sure, she’s seems interested, but really all she hears is “blah blah. blahblah blah blah. blah.”
Just sayin’.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:22 pmDRxJ, your dog looks interested – thus, an improvement over Twajie and its multiple personalities.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:28 pmThis is getting to be a habit with them. Jon Stewart just humiliated Hannity on national television for pulling the same stunt a week ago and here they go doing the same thing. These people never learn. Don’t they know we record this stuff?
November 19th, 2009 at 2:32 pmI just saw this and HAD to share it here. Fox is getting more and more entertaining with theses mistakes. From The Nation’s website…”During a FOX News segment which discusses the recent release of Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue, the network accidentally shows a graphic of the book Going Rouge: An American Nightmare.”
November 19th, 2009 at 2:32 pmThey don’t care.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:40 pmThey are playing to the stupid.
That’s their audience.
They also had to apologize for showing the front cover of “Going Rouge” and stating that it was “Going Rogue”.
Here’s the Link from TPM.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:42 pm“…using “homicide bomber” sounds appropiate as it covers all the basis.”
No, the term “suicide bomber” is more specific. “Homicide bomber” means that the bomber dropped the bomb and went away – be it on foot, or on a motorbike or an F-16 or a B-52 etc.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:43 pmOnce would be a mistake. Twice would be a problem. In the case of FAUX, it’s a pattern of misinformation.

November 19th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
They also had to apologize for showing the front cover of “Going Rouge” and stating that it was “Going Rogue”.
_____________________________________________________________
This shows that they’re either collectively too incompetent to be on the air at all, or this is deliberate behavior in order to maximize their exposure of Sarah Palin in order to promote her book (screw up with the footage, give more exposure apologizing for it, screw up with the wrong book cover, give more exposure apologizing for it — not to mention the publicity given by other media on the matter).
They’re not worried at all about credibility, since their viewers already worship them as gods, use them as their sole news source, and won’t know the difference. And Fox News doesn’t care what their non-viewers think.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:58 pmTTTC
I believe you are stupid beyond belief, an ignorant punkass troll, a worthless pile of dogshit and a lying piece of garbage
November 19th, 2009 at 3:00 pmSpeaking of bombs, why are there so many more shootings in this country than bombings? Because it’s easy to buy guns and it’s hard to buy explosives or their components.
November 19th, 2009 at 3:07 pmNo, TTTC, toasterhead’s definition agrees with whirlaway in all but one respect – that “homicide bomber” could also refer to a suicide bomber.
But clearly the latter is more accurate as that is what is actually taking place. Would you defend a headline that declared a double homicide only to find out that it was actual/y a murder suicide, since the word “homicide” means the intentional death of a person and that’s what suicide is, or would be rational enough to admit it’s misleading?
November 19th, 2009 at 3:10 pm“Fox issues on-air apology for misleading footage of Palin crowds.”
A gift that keeps on giving. Stay classy, Fux News.
November 19th, 2009 at 3:15 pmTTTC says:
See toaterheads definition. He disagrees w/you. I believe he in an expert on the subject judging by his blog.

____________
What part of my Jihadosphere, exactly? I don’t believe I discuss any kind of terrorist activity. It’s mostly climate change stuff on the rare occasions I update.
November 19th, 2009 at 3:24 pmHmmm, I would accept the apology if it wasn’t for Jon Stewart calling out Hannity for doing the exact same thing just a week ago. By the way, it isn’t like there wasn’t ample footage of actual lines of people waiting for Sarah Palin, many local stations actually got shots of the people waiting for her – Fox News is just lazy and poor reporting.
November 19th, 2009 at 3:26 pmJane “Mrs. NFL Commissioner” Skinner, “After further review the play stands as called, but it’s not our fault!”
November 19th, 2009 at 3:26 pmIt’s not a sincere apology. It was done to try to give credence to FOX’s contention that it is a “news” organization. Wink! Wink!
November 19th, 2009 at 4:00 pm“take action”? Murdoch? Nice try POX!
November 19th, 2009 at 4:18 pmIf the Faux big-wigs are serious, what are they doing about the people at the top who apparently are sending down messages that make the subordinates think that such stunts are preferred ?
November 19th, 2009 at 4:33 pmI love how the trolls always fall back to, “MSNBC did it too!” Just ask any teacher or teacher candidate if that works in the playground…
Thank you trolls for your entertainment value…It’s funny to see how sophomoric you guys can get…
November 19th, 2009 at 5:12 pmthat’s nothing compared to the fact that most repuglicans believe Acorn stole the election and Obama actually lost…
November 19th, 2009 at 5:42 pmFakeNoise is doing its job as usual.
As per your own definitions, using “homicide bomber” sounds appropiate as it covers all the basis. Why do you have a problem with that term?
—-
November 19th, 2009 at 5:46 pmAren’t you above a thread or two suggesting someone else use spell check or get a ged? Oh an by the way there is another one in #62. You are a joke…
Only slightly off topic:
In a sit-down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity Wednesday night, the former Alaska governor confused Iraq and Iran several times.
Which makes me wonder: “Is our children learning?” (GW Bush)
November 19th, 2009 at 6:10 pmWith time codes on the bottom of video, it is virtually impossible to display the wrong image with a timed event. And yet Fox says it was an accident, every single time…
November 19th, 2009 at 6:14 pmJust what we thought –
November 19th, 2009 at 6:47 pmThey talk about the book tour all day, with repeted showing of the wrong video, assuring that their viewers saw it at least one if not several times.
They are called out on it and issue an apology in mid-day on one show.
Their mission was already accomplished.
This happens all too often and is worth of an FCC investigation.
Another thing to consider is the sheer volume of businesses that leave Fox News on all day, not even necessarily with the sound on. I avoid them as much as possible, but I’ve been in diners or bagel shops or doctors’ offices where Fox news is more or less moving wallpaper. And that’s to say nothing of it airing in places like hospital emergency room waiting areas and rest home common areas, places where the audience might not be as engaged as an individual choosing to watch it at home. And what do they see? Footage of Palin with captions indicating it’s at her book signing, or tens of thousands of people supposedly at Bachmann’s health care rally who weren’t. The image is everything, and if they’re not hearing the story in the first place, they’re probably not hearing the apology, leaving only the false image in peoples’ minds, which becomes a reality. If you think Fox News doesn’t know this, and uses this ignorance to their advantage, then Fox News is using you to their advantage.
November 19th, 2009 at 9:23 pmTalk about manufacturing a screw up on purpose in order to go back on air to apologize all for the sake of trying to look responsible. As if Fox has an ounce of journalistic integrity at this point!
November 20th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
