Are they planning some sort of low intensity warfare? An insurgency to return this nation to the 1700’s?
Here’s a couple of hints for your planners.
1. All those crackers who are telling you that they have your back with their semi-auto AR15 knockoffs, probably won’t have your back when an Apache helicopter with rockets and a 20mm cannon floats up over the horizon.
2.All of those corporate sociopaths who are happy to spring for buses and signs for you to teabag the night away are going to dry up the money river when you get stupid enough to start shooting. In their view, foreign wars are good because they’re profitable. Domestic warfare is bad because it’s bad for business.
Let’s review. Buses and signs can be made available. Weapons and ammo, you’re on your own, Cletus. Your thousand round ammo stash looks one hell of a lot more impressive in your bedroom than it does in a war zone, and the tax money that the government stops sending you secessionist fools will buy a lot more than that.

Tax cuts which lead to government programs being underfunded or eliminated lead to tainted food and Bernie Madoff. Cutting taxes would not have avoided last years stock market crash. The smaller government did not or could not do its job of regulating the abuses created by your so called “libertarianism.” Also, tax cuts for the wealthy rather than the middle class and the unfunded wars created this huge deficit. Obama is being forced to take economic actions for a situation created by your tax cut/small government libertarianism. As I previously stated, this philosophy is dead and the only proven remedy for the economy is government spending to increase ala Roosevelt and the New Deal.

FVNY, the problem you’re having is that you WANT the Constitution to give you permission to not try terror suspects in US courts. But by saying that all the rights included in the 14th Amendment are for citizens only, you would have to say that our government also has the right to seize property owned by non-citizens, randomly imprison non-citizens visiting the US, and kill a non-citizen without due process. The more logical interpretation is that the 14th Amendment means exactly what it says: that there are citizen’s rights which must be respected for anyone born in the US and that there are general rights of personhood which must also be respected. Your recent posts have been less inflammatory and more thoughtful. Why don’t you just complete the process and quit trying to be disruptive for its own sake?

I have pointed out that the small government libertarian philosophy has failed. The GOP and Bush claimed to want smaller government, while in the process they expanded government spending and tax cuts. They did not grow the government in size. It makes no difference if the smaller government philosophy is advanced by Republicans or Libertarians; it is still a failed philosophy. Expanding Libertarian ideas on a larger scale than was done by Republicans is not going to get a better result. The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and expecting a different result.

You are right except to the extent of big government. Bush did not expand the government on a large scale. He followed Libertarian philosophy to the extent he and the Republicans underfunded or eliminated government agencies. The only expansion of government by Bush was the Homeland Security. The underfunded agencies and those that were eliminated were unable to stop the economic abuse that lead to tainted food, Bernie Madoff and the huge influx of illegals. That is the crux of my point. Greenspan was the biggest advocate of small government and less regulation and even he admitted his theories failed. Small government cannot reign in the abuses which proves Libertarianism is a failed and dead philosophy.

The SEC did not have the people or the resources to investigate Madoff as well as other scam investment advisors. Their budget was cut which forced the agency to cut services. Second, the banks were not forced to book any of the subprime loans. They were happy to book them and then resell them on the derivatives market. Greenspan and the Republicans blocked giving a federal agency the authority to regulate the derivatives because Greenspan believed the free market would self correct the abuses. He was wrong and admitted it.

Pushing thru a bill that will cost billions without actually showing the people who will be voting it in or not, or giving them enough time to debate and read into the meaning/consequences of the bill is not transparent, it’s underhanded. renaming sections that you said you would take out so that you can sneak the same provisions in under another name is backhanded and shows no care for what anyone thinks other than yourself. making someone buy something regardless of your situation is not only profiteering but also un-constitutional and not within the governments delegated power to do. Do we need Change, yes. but settling for any change will not do, rashing into a decision will not make things better, but has a greater way of making things worse.

It’s not happening now. All that’s happening now is the President is trying to fix the f uck ups of the last several presidents.
The closest we have ever come to an oppressive dictatorship in recent years was under George W. Bush, and the rightwing and future teabagger crowd were asleep at the wheel. Now they’re all in an ignorant uproar over “fascist liberals” and “keep your government hands off my Medicare.” We’re trying to make this country work according to the Constitution, and anyone ignorant enough to protest against that might as well get out if they’re unhappy.
I truly hope that if we ever find ourselves being ruled by an oppressive dictator, the American people will work together to get rid of him/her. I’m not holding my breath.

I agree with your argument over it’s not oppressive at the moment, The statement against this particular billboard in current context wouldn’t make as much sense, however in future context you have to wonder if it would. I wonder if everyone would wonder where all the people that they said should be jailed for posting up such things have gone. (most likely they were already executed)
What worried me recently is when Poloci was asked if the health care plan was within the .gov’s constitutional rights to actually implement, she blew off the question with “Is that even a question”

This would be a legitimate argument if the bills were handwritten or typed, with the option of receiving your copy by carrier pigeon. However, Congress, like the rest of the world, uses a computer network by which the bill is transmitted to all members including amendments and corrections. This is done in real time so the Republicans are full of bullshite about needing time to read the bill. They have had a copy since Reid introduced the bill and are aware of what amendments will be proposed. Try again.

It then goes through a review/processing period, to which it then gets submitted for public notice.

When Reid introduced the bill, every Senator received a copy of that bill the same day. All proposed amendments are sent through the network to each Senator. This means the Republicans have seen the bill and have had an ample opportunity to read and study it. They choose not to or pretend not to read for political grandstanding propaganda.

Good of you to always wonder that, blackdog. Basically, they didn’t go to their deaths in Germany. Most of the Jews who went to their deaths in their millions did so in Poland, where most of the death camps were located, and across the Ukraine and Russia, where Jewish villages and villagers, right behind the German lines, were herded to open trenches and machine gunned by Einsatzgruppen troops. And they didn’t go completely without a fight. There was a revolt in the Warsaw “ghetto” and a fair number of Jews managed to make it into the maquis and other resistance units. You should look a bit further into that history and work on your understanding and comprehension of it if you’re going to try to draw analogies to it.
We’re not in a similar situation. We have a bunch of people on the right who can’t handle living in a democracy, so they’re talking sedition and seccession; they also seem to think that threatening violence to our President is a good idea.
We haven’t been hijacked by anyone, blackdog. We had an election. We’ll have another election next year. And another Presidential election two years after that. Go vote. Take the time to become a little better informed before doing so; nobody minds if you take a conservative, libertarian, or Republican position – your party affiliation is your own damn business, but you should take care, as an American (assuming you are one) to not take the (small d) anti-democratic position that a lot of people on the right are taking.

Human society is a very complex system, and in that system there are subsystems based wholly off of logic, such as money, trade, service. Messing with certain systems with a reaction and rationalization that is based off of a gut reaction can usually cause more harm than good. I offer as a scenario a man lost at sea. this man may be dieing of dehydration, to that person the emotional response to this would be to drink the water all around them. This is obviously a bad move logically due to the fact the water contains salt, and will only hasten his death. We must think not only of now, but of the future generations. Especially with law and derivation of power very small changes can have huge changes later. We owe it to all of our children and each other to be as sure as possible of the future implications of what we do now.

Noooo its more of an implied threat. As for the Constitution reigning in the government, not citizens, it actually has the power to do both. We are guaranteed certain rights,like freedom of speech, and a government that’s not all-powerful, but we also have the reponsibility to protect these rights and make sure that the rights of other people aqren’t trampled on. Also, freedom of sppech only goes so far; you cant yell “fire” in a crowded movie theatre, for example ( I know that this analogy has been used millions of times, but it’s still pretty accurate).

Although I was born into a conservative Republican family, from earliest memory I’ve always had liberal political leanings. I grew up in Birmingham, AL during the 1960’s and marched on the streets of Birmingham for civil rights at that time. I protested the war in Vietnam in Washington DC in 1969. I voted for McGovern in 1972 and have voted straight Democratic ever since.
Until last year, that is. It wasn’t so much Obama that I was opposed to (I did NOT vote for McCain – I voted for Chuck Baldwin), it was the whole Democratic Party that I have been increasingly disgusted with since the 2004 election. John Kerry had any number of opportunities to absolutely ANNIHILATE Bush during the 2004 Presidential debates, but he wimped out of ALL of them. It had been well established by then that Bush lied us into the war in Iraq, through disclosure of the Downing Street memos. It was also well established that torture of prisoners was going on in Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere. The Valerie Plame outing was in the news. But Kerry chose NOT to pursue ANY of these very serious issues in the debates. I was totally disgusted with him. I was also disgusted with how the DNC let Bush get by with yet another stolen election without so much as a peep of complaint.
In September of 2005, Bush left tens of thousands of low-income New Orleans residents almost die of dehydration by repeatedly blocking all attempts to bring bottled water to them after Katrina struck and the levies broke. Yeah this was plenty bad, damn those Republicans, but where did the Democrats actually try to hold any of them accountable? Where were the Democrats everytime a vote for additional funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan came up? If anything, they consistently INCREASED the funds Bush had requested that they provide. All the while, NO action was taken by the Democrats to reign in the power of an out-of-control Executive department. By the summer of 2006, after Nancy Pelosi said that impeachment was “off the table” should the Dems take the House in November, I had had absolutely ALL I could take!
It’s one thing for you liberals to bash Bush. That was eminently easy to do. It’s quite another thing for you to sit nonchalantly back when your party of choice does NOTHING to stop him, though! What difference do you honestly expect the Dems would make when they have consistently floundered at any sense of being a genuine opposition party for the past 8 years?
That is why, in my opinion, the liberals are even stupider than the flag-waving neo-cons were. You aren’t connected with reality, you’re living in a dreamlike world of complete denial. NOTHING of any substance has changed since Obama took office. Rather than at least be making preparations to pull all our forces out of Iraq and Afghanistan, he’s preparing to send 40,000 MORE there. November 23rd, 2009 at 9:01 pmWhen our government thinks its primary duty is to “distribute the wealth”, i.e. take it from one citizen and give it to another, then eventually, if not stopped, it WILL lead to revolution. So, those of you who love what is going on in America, what is the amount of taxes to be taken from the rich that is fair? Can anyone give me a number? 50%, 60%, 80%? What’s the number? At what point does someone push back and say STOP. If you keep taking money from the producers in society and give it to the non producers, pretty soon the producers will stop working and join your ranks because the motive for hard work has been taken away along with liberty, i.e. the freedom to keep the fruits of your labor.

Clearly truth exists somewhere. But for people to be locked into the “mind” as I see in your comments to me, and as I was commenting on regarding the posts, one will find themselves unable to act effectively (with wisdom) in any situation.
Mostly all the rantings against the “sign” could be summed up in “It scares me”.
A person not held hostage by his “minds” beliefs would start from there to get to the truth. A person separated from the truth and allied with his “mind” would become a prisoner of his intellectual justifications of his positions.

re: my comment at #396. I didn’t realize that you’d composed the “revolution” line on the billboard, blackdog. that was the subject of my comment, not either of your preceding comments. Or perhaps there’s some other reason for your taking offense at 396?
I may or may not be aware of the truth in what you said that provoked my comment at #401. Regardless of that, you’ll find that I am occasionally a stickler, somewhat fussy, about matters of fact. The phrase “millions of Jews went to their deaths in Germany” fudges certain aspects of that historical reality; if I were to assume that you do know something of the history of those events, I still would have been inclined to ding you for smudging the facts. Sure, most people know what you mean, as do I, but that kind of expository writing leaves holes that can plague the rest of us, particularly with respect to certain nit-picking trolls.
As for your comment, “And also thought about the 9/11 flight were(sic) a few fought back against terrorist, would you have sat in your seat while others acted?“, how the hell would I know, blackdog? I’ve been around long enough to know how some people would like to think they would behave in such circumstances. I know how I think I ought to behave in such a situation. I might even follow through that way; OTOH, I might not. You don’t find out until you get cornered that way. You also can’t rule out the fact that the physical stress of an event like that can put some people out of the game entirely; heart attack or stroke from a jolt of adrenalin and fear. It’s an interesting subject for conjecture, but is it fruitful? I’m more inclined to a certain pragmatism – how do you prevent that sort of thing from happening? how do you keep people from getting in that kind of jam in the first place? And I don’t mean just the narrow little box of keeping box cutters out of airplanes; I mean that whole cultural complex that has produced alQaeda and suicide bombers, American boots on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc etc.

Your argument that taxing the producers of society to the point where they wouldn’t want to continue working would be valid if people didn’t have other reasons for continuing to work, like enjoying their jobs and their benefits. Sweden is the closest thing there is to a socialist system, i.e. taxes in the %60’s or %70’s, but the people there still tend to have a standard of living that is comprable or maybe a little bit higher than what we have here.

Yes, people do have the right to protest what they feel are “unlawful” actions committed by an elected official, however they also have the responsibility to make sure that by “protesting”, that they are not infringing on the rights of other people or sparking a riot. I’ll be the 1st to admit that there is a fine line between expressing a legitimate opinion and inciting rebellion, and that this line can be interpreted differently depending on whoever is in charge.
Besides, this sign is so ridiculous that there’s really no reason for us “libs” to really get too upset about it. If anything, it’s so far to the right and full of paranoia that it’s more laughable than anything else.
