Glenn Beck Has A ‘Plan’ To Sell Books With March On Washington On The Anniversary Of MLK Speech

Yesterday, while promoting his latest book at “a festive campaign-style rally” in The Villages in Florida, Fox News host Glenn Beck announced that he was crafting “a 100 year plan” that will be “radical” and will “restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting.” In his speech, which Media Matters captured on video, Beck told his followers, “we need to start thinking like the Chinese“:

BECK: I’ve done a lot of reading on history in the last few years and I was amazed to find that what we’re experiencing now is really a ticking time bomb that they designed about 100 years ago, beginning in the progressive movement. And they thought, “you know what, if we just do this and this and this and this, over time if we do it in both the Republican and Democratic parties, we will have our socialist utopia.” Well, I say again, two can play at that game. I am drafting plans now to bring us back to an America that our founders would understand. … We need to start thinking like the Chinese. I’m developing a 100 year plan for America. A 100 year plan. We will plant this idea and it will sprout roots.

Watch it:

At the rally and in a letter on his website, Beck said that he planned to organize a series of conventions in seven regions of the country, where his supporters can go to learn about “self-reliance, community organizing, the economy and how to be a political force in your own neighborhood and country.” The conventions will culminate in a new book by Beck called The Plan and a march on Washington to launch it:

- All of the above will culminate in The Plan, a book that will provide specific policies, principles and, most importantly, action steps that each of us can take to play a role in this Refounding.

- On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country.

Hot Air’s Allahpundit notes that the date of Beck’s DC event “happens to be the anniversary of the ‘I Have a Dream’ speech” by Martin Luther King, Jr. “Eschewing the title of ‘leader’ is thus a curious display of modesty from a guy who thinks his book launch is worthy of a modern-day March on Washington with him in the MLK role,” writes Allahpundit.

But not everyone thinks Beck is just elaborately promoting his next book. “He might just be trying to sell books, but there are much simpler ways to sell books,” Media Matters’ Ari Rabin-Havt told the New York Times, adding that “Beck sounded more like a presidential candidate than a pundit.”

This man has serious mental problems yet so many Americans follow his every word. It is frightening in the sense that in the past a mentally unstable person has risen to power because ignorant people believed his every word.

  5. Purple State says:

    Wait, wait, wait.

I thought “community organization” was a weakness. After all, Obama was a community organizer, right, Rudy G.?

Well, here is your community organizer, GOP. A radical demanding that America put a stop to radicals.

  6. EugeneDebs says:

    Purple state

I see him as more of a radical braindead cretin demanding America share his delusions

Reading “on history” and connecting the imaginary dots will get you into trouble.

    Who is “they”?

  8. Purple State says:

    Oh, I don’t see Beck as being brain-dead, E.D.

Far from it. I think he’s actually TOO smart. Meaning that he’s got the thoughts from a million voices running around in his head.

I find Beck to be nothing but an evangelist. He peddles his books and Goldline plugs on tours, then spews empty promises about ways to change America into something resembling the 13 colonies.

If Beck wants his 13 colonies, he’s going to have to realize that he would be destroying the fabric of this nation in the process much more than he envisions Obama doing it.

  9. Exit Stage Left says:

I am meeting my Dad for dinner in The Villages later today. I’m glad this moronic event was yesterday. Now I can’t be tempted to stop by and create some havoc :)~

A lot of people listen to this loon.
I knew when Obama got elected it was going to take the brakes off a lot of

Maybe they’ll burn themselves out but don’t count on it.

  12. katy says:

well, if there IS any justice, and nerve, and righteousness, left in d.c., a permit for the 8/28 “rally” should be turned down on principle alone – that day should be reserved for the MLK anniversary…

my guess is, the beckheads will show up ready to make trouble with and for the black population there that day…

and maybe that’s why he picked that date…

bleck needs to be shut down, and quick…

  13. Exit Stage Left says:

By the way….The Villages is a huge retirement community that, incredibly, has one of the highest STD rates in the country. At least the old farts at yesterday’s rally weren’t infecting each other after bingo yesterday.

  14. Above the Clouds says:

Now all Beck has to do is figure out how to convince his followers that shifting the tax burden to them away from him is a good idea and will expand their “freedom.”

  15. Exit Stage Left says:

Minus the extraneous “yesterday” in my post @ 14 ;)

  16. kali90 says:

Beck said that he planned to organize a series of conventions in seven regions of the country, where his supporters can go to learn about “self-reliance, community organizing…”

community organizing? well well, this loon has come a long way…;~)

this 100-year plan sounds more like a take-the-country-back-100-years plan.. you know this is what many of these right-wing clowns really want.. (blacks in their place, women in their place, no reproductive freedom (which also means no contraceptives..), no unions… etc etc.. )

he sounded more “like a presidential candidate”?? oh man, BRING IT!!!!! Palin/Beck.. how sweet that sounds!! (or Beck/Palin.. doesn’t make a difference, actually, which clown is on top of the ticket…)

ha ha ha ha.. what would we do without these clowns to provide us with comic relief??

  17. Tricked By The Gods says:

    Decoding Mr. Beck:

Beck: I’ve done a lot of reading on history in the past few years.

Decoded Beck: I’ve read Mein Kampf, The Turner Diaries and Going Rogue

Beck: I plan to organize a series of conventions where his supporters can go to learn about “self-reliance, community organizing, the economy and how to be a political force in your own neighborhood and country.

Decoded Beck: I am organizing a seven region right wing extremist party and encourage my loony supporters to organize their own extremist groups and spread terror in and around their own neighborhoods and country.

  18. Tricked By The Gods says:

Oops…forgot to add American History For Dummies to books Beck has read on American history.

And they thought, “you know what, if we just do this and this and this and this, over time if we do it in both the Republican and Democratic parties, we will have our socialist utopia.”

Interesting tack here. Becky combines his standard conspiracy theorist delusion with a straw man. It produces something quite breathtaking.

Becky is really in the avant-garde of the right-wing crazy movement.

  24. kali90 says:

of course this moronic deluded clown deep down knows very well that his “100-plan” is going nowhere and will simply not come to pass.. it’s really just a marketing ploy to sell his book… the man, after all, is following one of the most fundamental tenets of American tradition: if have you to lie to sell a product so be it.. that’s the free market in America…

  25. EugeneDebs says:

    Chucky

YOU are a brainwashed moron. You are funny though. I will give you that. Hilarious.

  26. ralph the wonder llama says:

    “Fearless visionary”?

    Really?

I think all his fear-driven weeping for his country belies the first part of that description, and his political presbyopia discredits the last.

Is this the “Black Prince” that will usher in the “End of Days” . . . or just another Elmer Gantry fleecin’ the hicks?

  28. Imichael says:

    Jim Jones.
Peck is sounding more like Jim Jones. His drones are already drinkong the kool-aid. How come the US is the only place in the world that has these outrageous white guys who can find an audience. He always mentions our founding fathers as its some kind of utopia during that time. Glenn Beck should get his listeners convince them to move with him to some location and live like our founding fathers lived. I’m sure he can get some reality show deal.

Beckerhead’s “plan” is to stuff his pockets with cash given to him by stupid people. The “plan” should work very well as the people that listen to him are very stupid indeed.

  70. Wayne A. Schneider says:

BECK: I’ve done a lot of reading on history in the last few years and I was amazed to find that what we’re experiencing now is really a ticking time bomb that they designed about 100 years ago, beginning in the progressive movement. And they thought, “you know what, if we just do this and this and this and this, over time if we do it in both the Republican and Democratic parties, we will have our socialist utopia.” Well, I say again, two can play at that game. We will plant this idea and it will sprout roots.

There are a number of things wrong with what Beck said.

First of all, there is no Progressive Plan that was begun a hundred years ago. If there was, I think a lot of us would have heard about it by now (thanks to the Internets), and we would have been talking about how this or this or this or this wasn’t “going according to plan.” So I have to seriously doubt such a plan ever existed outside Beck’s slightly warped mind.

Second, there is a Conservative Plan that has been in effect for about seventy years, and it is this plan that has brought us to where we are today – where crazy-ass right-winger ideas are given equal credibility and weight with intelligent, well-thought-out Progressive ideas. It has, in fact, been the cause of the breakdown in civil, rational discourse we see today. (Look up fromer Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell’s “Powell Doctrine”. It has nothing to do with former Sec of State Colin Powell’s “Powell Doctrine”.)

Lastly, is Beck trying to say the Chinese are Progressives? He said that the Progressives had a 100-year plan. Then he said we had to “start thinking like the Chinese”. Then he said he was coming up with his own 100-year plan. I thought it was Progressives who had the 100-year plan. How did the Chinese get in there?

A human-potential-movement cult leader who promises life breakthroughs in exchange for participation in costly ‘religious’ or ‘therapy’ programs.

Beck’s conventions will apparently be seminars, in which suckers (God-loving patriots) will learn all about the voices in Beck’s head (Beck’s vision for a better future).

And when I say “future,” I mean future — Beck claims to be working on a “100 year plan.”

I’ve heard of long cons, but this is ridiculous.

Let’s make sure we document VERY carefully what Beck says when he pontificates to the other media and any one with a microphone/camera readily available. Beck TAKES NO SIDES and/or ADVOCATES NOTHING!! Absolutely NOTHING. He uses his pundit platform to cajole, prod, push, spin, lie, create and strawman a ‘beck vision’ of a 1860’s place that he believes his followers want as a replacement for their environment today.

Now remember, Beck has taken no side on any issue and has advocated NOTHING..He has merely suggested…He merely suggested that his followers ‘have to decide today’ whether or not they will continue down the path they are on with their current ‘country’; they have to decide, based on beck’s suggestions whether they want a 2074-page Health Care reform package (1st pass) that represents the first change in our system of patches and payoffs, in 65-years since the passage of Medicare. OR, do they want to go back to the small, ‘just a few pages’ of the original Constitution which advocates NONE (in beck’s world) of today’s taxes or health care or government systems/support or institutions… And contrary to what Virginia Foxx will say next week, the republicans DID NOT pass Medicare…

They, his ‘followers’ have to decide today whether or not their current government is working in their best interest in Blythsville, Arkansas or East Battle Creek, Michigan or Walla-Walla, Washington or whether or not they, Beck followers, should rise up and take their governmental back – by force. He hasn’t come straight out and said that his followers have to pick up weapons and take out their local authorities (not just police but Beck-defined local non-relating politicians) but he’s close…Give him a few more weeks and it won’t be very subtle any more.

So, what will he be spewing by the time he gets around to not advocating anything in August of next year… You pick…

The problem with his vision is that it presumes that the poor, the minorities, the elderly, the disabled, etc. are going to disappear when all the entitlement programs are abolished. They won’t disappear. The have nots will far outnumber the haves and the Bolshevik revolution will look tame.

The Wrong Right worries about Socialism while their pundits blunder toward Communism? Beck should move to Red China to be closer to the source of his stupid planning for 100 years. Perhaps he could get a Chinese TV program going that would lambaste the Chinese Communist government for may one or two days before he would find himself in the Gulag. Maybe Beck is a Soviet Communist; after all, twenty five year plans equals one one hundred year plan. What a bug wit.

  138. Parlezvous says:

This online book by his nephew Joel is enough to make hair stand up on your neck.

The chapters include: A Principled Approach to Law, Principles of Government, Essential Principles for the Conservation of Liberty, Philosophy of Government Compared, Citizen Compact and New Constitutional Proposal. The Citizen Compact is insane, because you would have to earn your citizenship.

    Not racist at all.

Beck’s 100 year plan for Chinese socialism:

At a rally, the self-styled messiah Glenn Beck told his followers “We need to think like China,” and announced that he was developing a “100-year-plan” for America. As blogger Peter Schorsch reported from Beck’s rally, he is “essentially calling for an end to the two-party system.”

Yes, that does sound a little like China. Wasn’t it Beck who just, a few short weeks ago, assailed Anita Dunn for referencing Mao Tse-Tung in a commencement address?

Yet, here he is referencing a 2007 speech written by Wen Jiabao, leader of China’s Communist Party, as a path Americans should follow into the future
    [..]
First, the solipsistic Beck bastardizes the Gift of the Magi for a lame knockoff called The Christmas Sweater. Now, he steals from the Chinese Prime Minister to create a 100-year-plan to turn America into a one-party Communist dictatorship.

The hypocrisy is breathtaking. In fact, I think there needs to be a new word created, hypocrisy just doesn’t cut it.

Just as conservatives have usurped the meaning of colorblind to perpetrate oppression and to shoot down efforts to have a race discussion, Beck is trying to do the same to MLK’s legacy by suggesting that his movement is the true heir. Maybe if he cashed in his gold he could buy Greenland or Iceland. Then he could play Jesus until he either wins over the people or has his bunker in Berlin moment.

    Get serious, conman.

    J. Edgar Hoover was a cross-dressing paranoiac.

The only C-word that fits MLK was Christian. He rejected communism and Marxism because of their materialistic emphasis. And as a Baptist, he rejected atheism.

Fred, you’re spot on the mark, dead on the money, and nowhere near morally bankrupt.

Kenneth, ’tis pity she’s a whore, but whore she is. A wannabe Whore of Babylon, and a quitter, to boot.

ps. cd, thanks for the link to the feverish fervid whore’s dance. very decadent, in a sort of Weimar way.

As opposed to white supremacists and their buddy cops sitting outside voting booths with guns in black neighborhoods? LOL! You really are pathetic bovine! ;)

Sarah is leading you lemmings straight off a cliff – which I’m fine with… but you ARE NOT taking us with you.

If Beck tells them emulating the communists is cool – to his fans it is..
If Beck trashes an American flag – it’s patriotic
If Beck insults the victims of 9/11 – it’s courageous
If Beck insults the Statue of Liberty – it’s applauded

I simply don’t understand – has FOX really instituted full blown mind control? Beck given a blanket permission by his viewers to insult anything American reminds me of the way that a Black person might use the N word and it’s OK.

If Beck insults America… well, it’s only because he loves it so much.

I just don’t understand how it gets away with this.

  197. lux says:

I guess typing ‘it’ was a typo..

But referring to Beck as an ‘it’ is more of a freudian slip.

This strikes me as the most tasteless publicity stunt since a theatrical troupe presented a production of My American Cousin, complete with re-enactment of the Lincoln assassination at the “appropriate” moment. Here’s hoping that this is too much for even corporate media.

  204. jenalyn says:

Please tell me… I am curious. What “hate” and “terror” does Glenn Beck promote?

  205. AmericanMuser says:

These right-wing crazies are such hypocrites. I was bounced from RedState’s website Saturday and censored after indicating that Middle America is disillusioned with the political Right AND Left. Evidently, I hadn’t consumed enough of its apparatchik Kool-Aid before engaging the right-wing fringe at RedState. Oh well, so much for constructive dialogue . . .

I have visited hundreds of political websites and blogs, and I spend countless hours each day on the same, and never before have I ever been censored, never mind immediately and reflexively cut-off, for asking reasonable policy questions (you can view a string of Saturday night’s exchange at my blog, URL at the bottom). I will wear the rebuke like a badge of honor, and as a reminder of RedState’s inability to provide a forum to rationally discuss public policy issues impacting Middle America.

In fact, I was chastised for expressing my reasonable views and I was told, “You’ll find that stuff not welcomed here.” My goodness, are we in China? (Well, not yet, but we will be soon, thanks to the trillion dollars of U.S. Treasury debt China owns and America’s skyrocketing deficit, following eight years of fiscal irresponsibility in Washington, but I digress). Suffice it to say, it’s become very clear to me why the website is called “RedState”—it’s RedState’s proclivity for censorship, of course.

For the fringe on the Right, it is precisely this irrational, emotional response to reasonable inquiry that has marginalized and isolated it from normal, thinking human beings. Unfortunately, the folks at RedState continue to read and believe their own press releases, insulating them from anyone thinking outside of their tiny little circle. Like many of the fringe lunatics on the Right, it remains out of touch with voters and continues to create a vacuum in the center, which will someday be filled, but not by someone of its liking.

Middle America and the pocketbook issues that impact it everyday have been neglected too long by the far Right. Understandably, the fringe at RedState is sensitive about it and unwilling to discuss the recent failed leadership of the Right. This is disappointing, but it brings clarity to how RedState helps the Right maintain its minority and irrelevant status.

A word of wisdom for those of you on the far Right that are hard of hearing (likely from too much banjo music): Middle America is where the voters are, which, based on your irrelevancy, you do not comprehend. However, if you’d like to dig out of the hole you’ve put yourself in, stop neglecting it. It is interested in jobs, affordable healthcare, and quality education for its children; oh yes, and constructive dialogue. Americans visiting the RedState website, whether they be Red, Blue, or Purple, deserve better than being treated like pivot men in RedState’s knuckle-dragging circle-jerk.

    AmericanMuser,

I assume you thought you could reasonalby engage the RedStaters in a rational discussion. I am glad that you have come to the opposite conclusion.

Yet, I am willing to bet you will keep the Fox and RedState links in place on your blog but only because you are a rational, reasonable and thoughtful person.

    Kudos on your blog!

There is something extraordinarily disturbing and vile about a white supremacist like Beck planning a rally on MLK Day.

  211. deborahm says:

Taking Glenn Beck out of context and twisting the truth does not help one bit. It has stopped being affective. You will not make any progress this way.

  212. Newsericks says:

The article and comments raise very good points, especially regarding scheduling of Glenn’s “Refounding Day” rally on the 47th anniversary of MLK’s March on Washington and “I Have a Dream” speech, evidence, I guess, that Glenn considers himself to be the white reincarnation of Martin Luther King, with a mission to rescue disgruntled white Christian’s from their persecution (except with Glenn it will be the “I Have a Nightmare” speech). However, I’ve discovered something much more diabolical about “The Plan” — hidden code in Glenn’s own website proving that “The Plan” is demonically inspired, and that Glenn Beck is in fact in league with Satan. Read about it at http://newsericks.com/proof-that-glenn-beck-is-in-league-with-satan/, share the information with others (including your conservative friends, since the evidence is too incontrovertible for even them to deny), and download copies of the evidence before Fox and Glenn’s minions destroy it. Go to http://newsericks.com/proof-that-glenn-beck-is-in-league-with-satan/ to find the horrifying truth about “The Plan” — before it’s too late!
