Lou Dobbs On Whether He’s Thought About Running For President: ‘Yes Is The Answer’

Lou Dobbs Last week, rumors spread that former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs might challenge Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) in 2012. But in an interview on Fred Thompson’s radio show today, Dobbs said that he is actually considering a run for the White House:

THOMPSON: Lou, one way to have a voice — you’ve already had a big one, but another way to have a voice is in public service. Have you given any thought to perhaps running for president?

DOBBS: I’m talking — yes is the answer. And I’m going to be talking some more with some folks who want me to listen to them in the next few weeks. You know, I, so I just don’t even what to tell you in terms of where I’m leaning because right now I’m fortunate to have a number of wonderful options. I do know this, I’m going to have the best advice. I may make a terrible decision, but I’m going to have great advice.

Listen here:

In 2008, Dobbs was rumored to be considering a shot at becoming the governor of New Jersey. When Dobbs announced he was leaving CNN, he said that “some leaders in media, politics, and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving.”

Dobbs gave no indication of what, if any, party affiliation he would campaign under. A self-described “independent populist,” Dobbs would likely run as an Independent candidate. “I think something on the order of an independent movement will come if these two parties fail the American people again,” he said in 2007.

There are already multiple Draft Dobbs for President websites, although the “Lou Dobbs 2012″ site will soon be shutting down due to a lack of funds.

That would be ‘waddle’ for President, wouldn’t it?

    On the Hate/Bigot/FatWhiteGuy ticket?

  2. mike from Arlington says:

He’s got the Minutemen vote locked down for sure.

  3. Bozo The Neoclown says:

    “mr mumbles for president”

hey lou, i got your slogan all set to go. can i have the job as your campaign manager?

  4. Hoodathunk says:

Yes, ever since I lost my mind when the current president was elected I have been thinking about bringing my brand of insanity to the Presidential race. Hey, I’m nuts, what do you expect?

  5. Zimzone says:

and if I’m elected, I promise you that each & every illegal immigrant in this Country will be deported back to where they came from, even if I have to drive Sarah’s bus to Mexico myself!

My grandfather immigrated here himself, but he was White. The very idea that non-whites think they can make this great Country better is ridiculous.

Did you know that an illegal alien may come from other countries than Mexico? Well, I, for one didn’t!

A Vote for Lou is a Vote for You!

  6. lefty says:

You’re debuting on the FOX Business Channel. It’s just a matter of when, Lou. Please.

  7. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Will he be running as the candidate of the “Little Chicken Party” or the “Chicken Little Party”? A decision has not been made, but he will be getting good advice on it.

  8. sscncturn64 says:

President of what? The electric fence with sharpshooters with orders to shoot and kill on the mexican border.

  9. Hoodathunk says:

Lou, I have a great campaign slogan for you.

“I was fired for being a deranged bigot…Vote for me!”

  10. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Campaign Slogan: “Eight Million Dollars and No Sense”

  11. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

Yeah, like taht’s really gonna happen. Heh.

It would be nice to watch him get smacked around on the campaign trail though.

  12. Bozo The Neoclown says:

mr mumbles is going to be the first candidate for president with the new “teabagger party” they’ve just formed down in florida. best of luck with that.
    BBBBWWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHH

  13. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

VP Candidate: None, Lou has a big enough ego for both portions of the ticket.

  14. Dave N says:

Please run as an independent. The comedic value would be priceless.

  15. Zimzone says:

Campaign Slogan: ‘I used to have a little credibility before I started opining on immigration’

  16. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Campaign Colors: white lettering on white background (don’t worry about difficulty reading any of the literature because there is no contrast, there’s no content either)

  17. Dave N says:

    From loudobbs4president.net:

Effective November 28th 2009 this website will no longer be available. Due to the lack of donations which total NONE and the fact I can’t keep it going by myself any longer I have no choice but to take down the site.

    Real populism there.

  18. Purple State says:

Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I have yet to see any concrete evidence that Lou Dobbs was born in the US.

  19. Hoodathunk says:

    Dobbs/Beck 2012. Insanity R Us.

  20. BrianFL says:

Can this buffoon possibly be any more arrogant? Run for President??? He could not even get 1 million people to tune into his lousy show (he averaged around 650K) on a major cable news channel, but he thinks he’s going to get millions and millions to vote for him? Lou’s picture should be added next to the word “delusional” in the dictionary. Pee Wee Herman has a better chance of being elected President.

  21. EnnuiDivine says:

Look at it this way…he’ll run as an independent and split the psychopath vote with whatever hard right loser the GOP nominates.

  22. TeleMan says:

Yes! Let’s all run out and elect as POTUS an unproven elderly white male who has never held a single government position! We don’t need no stinkin’ executive experience!

    /snark

  23. Bozo The Neoclown says:

“Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I have yet to see any concrete evidence that Lou Dobbs was born in the US.”
back when mr. mumbles was born, we were still an english colony.

  25. dSquib says:

Surely inspired by the unprecedented success of Tancredo ‘08.

  26. Badmoodman says:

Dobbs: I may make a terrible decision, but I’m going to have great advice.

    – - hen that would make your administration 50% better than Bush #43’s.

    EnnuiDivine says:

Exactly. He’s not a Palin fan but he wants her supporters.

  29. MapleStreet says:

So many good choices for 2012:

    Dobbs
    Beck
    Palin
    Prejean
    .
    .

  30. radhika says:

I am just picturing the RW array for 2012. Dobbs running on the Nativist Ticket; Palin on the Facebook-Right Ticket; Huckabee as God’s DietMeister; Ron Paul for the Randos; Glen Beck’s Dry-Drunk Secessionists with a Megaphone and Bus.

  31. pastcaring says:

Ya ok on all that independent party stuff…good luck…somehow I can’t see a President with the name Lou

  32. blue53 says:

Can he pass the purity test?

  33. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Can we just build an asylum for the politically insane that looks like the White House, tell each of these “candidates” that they won and lock them in their room decorated like the Oval Office?

  34. oldfuzz says:

Has anyone ever not thought of running for President?

Unless history is irrelevant, he has no chance of being elected. Every President in the modern age has shown his–and one day, her–governing ability in another elective office.

He might be electable as a Senator… somewhere.

  35. Peter C says:

At this point, I think it would be sign of utter cowardice for him not to run for President.

    *chuckles mischeviously*

  36. Jackie says:

Well now every wing nut is running for President. Lou will bring the racist out in full force and still sleep with his immigrant wife and make babies. The list of wackos is increasing as bimbo Palin, drug/alcholic Beck, drug addicted/child molester Rush Limbaugh and who knows who else will enter the race. We barely servived drug/alcoholic non educated George W. Bush as President with 8 years of lies, crimes and murder. The question is will the American want another Bush in the White House to finish off the USA.

  37. Peter C says:

    I encourage him to self-finance.

    Tee hee hee.

  38. darnay says:

Run Lou Run !!! NOT !!!!!!

  39. Wiz says:

I once thought about running for President too, then I graduated…. to the 2nd Grade.

  40. Hoodathunk says:

I love it. The present list of Republican candidates vying for a 2012 run makes a bowl of Planters Mixed Nuts look boring. Is there a single one of them that isn’t counting on the lunatic fringe suddenly exploding and becoming reality?

  41. EnnuiDivine says:

    32. Blue53,

Doubtful. He’s pro-choice, against the Federal Marriage Amendment, and against unrestricted free-trade. He’s not a hardcore conservative (by the definition of American conservatism), just a whackjob pseudo-populist.

  42. WillWrite4Food says:

    President of the Klan?

  43. Wiz says:

If Dobbs (or Palin) were elected in 2012, the good news is that the world is coming to an end Dec 12, 2012, more than a month before the swearing in Jan 20, 2013. Boy I’m glad we dodged that bullet.

    Huckabee/Bachmann for the fundie crowd.
    Palin/Beck for the independent bunch
    Dobbs,Boner for the traditionalists
    Cantor/Jindhal for the hep crowd.
    Limbaugh/Steele for the truly delusional.

  46. Mathazar says:

Thanks to John McCain and Sarah Palin, the bar is now set soooo
low, that anyone who’s had their 15 minutes of fame thinks they’re qualified to be President.

Perhaps Joe the dumber could be his VP.

Heh. Dobbs is going on a comedy tour?

  49. Xisithrus says:

    Dobbs is unelectable

  50. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

Who needs Lou Dobbs for fighting aliens? You can just go to the SpongeBobSquarePants TV show where SpongeBob’s buddy has just given him a gift of a spray can of “Alien Out.” Problem solved…

  51. RUCerious says:

Where’s his LONG form birth certificate?

  52. Mathazar says:

Just to refresh everyone’s memory a bit, remember the non-democratic candidates in 2008 ?

Paul, Brownback, Tancredo, Thompson, G9lliani, Huckleberry, and McCain actually looked SANE by comparison !

    Not much has changed, really.

  53. blue53 says:

    EnnuiDivine–thanks I didn’t think he would–

  54. pete says:

For some reason I’m not greatly concerned. Though I do appreciate the irony of this coming from Fred “wouldn’t it be a gas to run for president” Thompson’s show.

  55. RUCerious says:

He’s a cinch to lock up the giant mutant blob bloc.

  56. Ape-Man says:

I’m sorry – Lou Dobbs is a Birther.

It’s not gonna happen, just like his hostile take-over of MSNBC. Not gonna happen for Lou Birther Dobbs.

  57. Ape-Man says:

Why does every republiscum want to be president, and what makes them think they are capable or even wanted?

    Narcissism.

  58. Fraze says:

ha ha ha ha ha….sorry, ha ha ha…oh stop…this is just too funny…Lou Bobbs as President…ha ha ha…okay…gotta stop laffin…need to pee

  59. suziq says:

    Dobbs,Boner for the traditionalists

    Limbaugh/Steele for the truly delusional.

That’s a great breakdown! All totaled, they still can’t win a national election.

  60. dasm says:

Dobbs is a racist nutjob. Let him lead the hateful tea-baggers, it’s all he’s good for.

  61. dasm says:

Palin, Dobbs, Huckabee, Prejean, Bachmann, Not-Joe the Not-Plumber– you really wonder if the Repubs can find any lesser people to represent them, yet each day they outdo themselves as they strive for absurdity.

  62. jb says:

Yeah, but can he cut brush? The brush has not been getting cut since W left office. Alarming amount of brush.

  63. CarmanK says:

Why would anyone who loves this country even a little, look to Lou Dobbs to run for President. Or even to lower themselves to ask the question of such an obviously unqualified individual to govern “all” the american people. We are already seeing what happens in WASH when a new guy comes to town. Obama is having a terrible time getting the congress to act with courage. Imagine the stalemate with the likes of an opinionated bigot like Dobbs in the WH? Of course, the likelihood is far fetched at best.

  64. AUDIT THE FED says:

Yes, that would be a dumb mistake Lou.

Running for president under the independent line only steals the racist conservative vote from republicans and hands Mr. Obama his second term.

The Oligarch’s senses the public opposition to their two party system, so they want to prop up a Ross Perot type figure.
