Last month, President Obama visited Dover Air Force Base to honor 18 soldiers killed in Afghanistan. One family allowed the media to photograph the return of their fallen member. Soon after, the right wing went straight into attack mode. “It was a photo op precisely because he’s having big-time trouble on this whole Afghanistan dithering situation,” hate radio host Rush Limbaugh said.
But Mike Huckabee took a different tack, calling the right-wing attacks “deplorable.” “I think it was the Commander-in-Chief of our military paying respect to a dead soldier, and I’m grateful that he did that, and I was proud of him for doing that,” Huckabee said. In a recent interview, CBS’ Katie Couric asked Huckabee if he was criticizing Limbaugh, but Huckabee declined to take the bait:
COURIC: Were you referring to anyone in particular or anyone specific because I know Rush Limbaugh had criticized the day before you made that statement.
HUCKABEE: No one in particular. I wasn’t criticizing Rush. He’s got a bigger megaphone and microphone than I do and I’m not going to get into a war with him. It wasn’t about Rush Limbaugh; it was about the general tenor. I read editorials, I heard people on commentary shows.
Watch it (starting at 31:05):
Huckabee, a potential GOP candidate for president in 2012, apparently knows the dangers of criticizing the Party’s de-facto leader. Numerous Republicans over the past year — including RNC Chairman Michael Steele — have criticized Limbaugh at one point or another but then came crawling back to apologize.
Ya know. I really like the D-Man but I never bought his crap about god being on Huckabee’s side. I mean shit is Rush more powerful than god that Huck needs to be concerned….
November 24th, 2009 at 5:32 pmIf teabagging anti-American hicks are afraid to stand up to a drug addict, terrorist supporting, hate radio monger, how can these teabagging anti-American hicks believe they can defend our Country?

It’s always about whose is bigger than whose with these guys, isn’t it?
November 24th, 2009 at 5:36 pmWell, I guess it’s good that Huckabee has the courage to admit he’s a coward when confrontong Limpballs. Is that an Oxymoron or what?
November 24th, 2009 at 5:38 pmMicrophone? Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
November 24th, 2009 at 5:38 pmThe big microphone is compensating for something else.
November 24th, 2009 at 5:40 pmWho is the psycho chick on ‘HardBall’? What a skank!

November 24th, 2009 at 5:41 pmIn other words, Mike is saying Rush makes me wet myself because my god is smaller than the fat man.
Yup, real gutsy Presidential material there, Mike.
November 24th, 2009 at 5:42 pmMike needs to team up with Crazy Shelly. She can give him the backbone he lacks.

November 24th, 2009 at 5:51 pmLimbaugh and Beckerhead are, after all, the real leaders of the republican party.
November 24th, 2009 at 5:52 pmThe sad fact is that, despite his apparent wit, the Huckster is stark, raving, mad.
November 24th, 2009 at 5:52 pmIt ain’t Flush Limpdick’s mike Phuckabee is afraid of.
Most likely, afraid of having to do some butthole surfing of the fat man within 48 hours. That would scare anyone.

ras@15, Yeah. These religious types kill me. They claim they have no fear because they are ‘Born Again’ and are going straight to the Pearly Gates. If so, why are they always so fearful?
November 24th, 2009 at 5:53 pmHuckabee scares me more than any of the other right wing presidential candidates; he is smoother and able to appear reasonable with the press. He can convince folks he is more centerist than he really is. He would be Shrub (not up to the job) with the serious Jesus freak cred.
Hmm – I hear global warming is making Canada a bit more comfortable these days.
November 24th, 2009 at 5:54 pmI’ve never seen such gutlessness in all my life as that republicans display when faced with the prospect of offending Rush Limbaugh.

The Huckster is the most dangerous kind of religious zealot. He is the kind who can genuinely Believe things that contradict his own senses and will then spread that Belief with a facade of reason.
November 24th, 2009 at 6:03 pmRepublicans are just plain chickens – paranoids. Obviously they can’t cope with the changing world. They are stuck in the past, unable to evolve, to adapt, to survive. Their DNA is disappearing from the gene pool as we speak and still they refuse to believe in evolution. I suppose they will continue to do so until they are in fact extinct.

C’mon, Mike. It’s not like Rush buys ink by the barrel.
Oh, yeah, your other master, Rupert Murdoch, does.

What does this say about him? He was in fact criticizing Rush because Rush was criticizing Obama for doing something Huckabee said he should not be criticized for. But like Palin and all the rest of the right wingnuts who insist that, unlike the Washington regulars, they are “real” candidates willing to “level with the American people”, he plays the game just the way every other politician does.
But why not? Don’t the American voters…or at the very least millions and millions of them…let them get away with it? Everyone rationalizes their own hypocrisy.
Onward Christian soldiers, as it were.
November 24th, 2009 at 6:11 pmNow of course the more amusing shit is the vote down baby. What kind of tool comes here, doesn’t do shit but make negative votes that last nanoseconds? Wouldn’t a normal person use their words to express their ideas?
November 24th, 2009 at 6:12 pmWouldn’t a normal person use their words to express their ideas?
Yes. Yes he would. Which just supports the idea that our Vote Down Baby is not “normal.”
dbadass,
Do you think the Vote Down Baby is really Ann Coulter? Until I hear a better candidate (or proof to the contrary), I’m going with Ann Coulter. Except not as feminine.
November 24th, 2009 at 6:15 pmHuckabee is probably the most viable and therefore dangerous of the Republican candidates. He is maintaining a distance from the Tea bagger crowd and basically just sliding along under the radar. He is not a joke but a very savvy operator.
November 24th, 2009 at 6:26 pmDear Reverend Huckster,
Could you spill out in plain English that you are simply bowing down to the almighty master King El Rushbo? It would save you some time of embarrassment.
Yours in Christ,
SP Biloxi
Seriously, another day, another crapola talk by Huckster. And I have to agree with some of comments on the blog. Besides, Lady Blah Blah of Alaska, Rev. Huckster really scares me to death with his wingnuttery and religious antics. He is on the calliber of a male Crazy Shelly.

C’mon Huckleberry, is there more to your fear than you’re letting on?
November 24th, 2009 at 7:29 pmWhy would you be so afraid of such a Godless sinner?
P.D. says:
ras@15, Yeah. These religious types kill me. They claim they have no fear because they are ‘Born Again’ and are going straight to the Pearly Gates. If so, why are they always so fearful?
They are fearful because fear is a tool used by religion to keep the sheeple from straying away from religion.
November 24th, 2009 at 7:29 pmI wonder what Queefy is posti…eh, forgot, I dont care.
November 24th, 2009 at 7:30 pmthere are many “big” things about rush:
his microphone
his ego
his fatass
and taking into consideration the above list he uses them to conceal one part of him isn’t so “big”…his pecker.
November 24th, 2009 at 7:36 pmAt some point Rush will become a liability for the spineless Republicans. Until the primaries start Huckleberry is going to continue to be ambiguous. By 2012 it may be too late to take a stand. There are many Dems who are already conceding that they will lose seats in 2010. But the Republicans have so many liabilities that I think the Dems could hold their majorities if they would campaign a little smarter.

November 24th, 2009 at 8:57 pmWhy would any sane, self confident, adult be afraid to state their point of view at anytime, in any venue they choose. Do they think these TV and radio commentators have some super powers available that can penetrate through walls and get them somehow? What are these on air personalities gonna do..have those critical of their views snuffed out? Good lord, what a bunch of pansies. No wonder so few them had the ball$ to enlist in the armed forces and learn a little self confidence.

November 24th, 2009 at 9:45 pmOOhh. Now we are being voted down. I guess the troll resents me for speaking the truth? That Sarah palin IS dumber than a bad of hair. Come on troll, DEBATE me. I dare you.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:47 pmRev. Huck knows not to bite the hand that feeds him. Look all Rev. Huck has to do is wait it out as the GOP goes over all their wacko candidates. Even Glenn Beck is running for President. So like McCain, Rev. Huck will be the last man standing and he’ll use his famous floating cross again in his ads. Look it didn’t work the last time but it might work this time. Using Religion has go the GOP what they want as it did with Foley, Craig, Vitter and Ensign. Rev. Hank might even ask drug/alcoholic/child molester Rush Limbaugh to be his VP choice. Rev. Huck will say God wants him to be President and have racist Rush as his VP because God told him. You betya people will believe every word while watching the fake floating cross of Rev. Huck.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:49 pmKind of reminds me of those “Don’t blame me I voted for ________________” bumperstickers. In fact I saw one just today that filled in the blank with Ron Paul. I chuckled….
November 24th, 2009 at 9:56 pmP.D., you are correct. Sarah Palin IS dumber than a bag of hair.
So, who’s the wussy VD troll? Got anything to say?

If you haven’t seen just how clueless Bible Spice’s fans are? I recommend the clip at #69. When it comes down to her fans versus the Huckster’s I fear we may see the teabaggers turn on each other. Let’s hope that riot control isn’t a casualty of budget fever.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:03 pmJane@73, Oh, I suspect he won’t show himself anytime soon. Debate about Palin? We will CRUSH him.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:03 pmP.D.
I’m beginning to think the poor things have lost the will to maintain the facade in favor of morons. Or, they blew all their meth over the weekend and are working the streets trying to score.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:06 pmpete@74, LOL! That’s exactly what’s happening. The ‘Tea-Baggers’ are fighting over money, topics AND control over their own platforms. Just last week, the ‘Baggers’ were arguing with the Neo-Nazis because the ‘Baggers’ thought the Nazis made THEM look bad. Well, for a group that heckles people in wheelchairs AND the grieving parents of a young woman and infant who died because of lack of insurance, you tell me, who is more hateful?

November 24th, 2009 at 10:12 pmActually, I can see where it would be easier to fall for the Huckster than Bible Spice. One can listen to him and miss the fact that he simply rejects vast swaths of knowledge in favor of stuff some guy in a robe pulled out of his ass. he is downright professorial compared to Palin.
Bible Spice is just a mess and there’s no logical justification for missing that obvious fact.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:12 pmNot that you got back to me about that sudden homeless thing…
November 24th, 2009 at 10:13 pmNotice how the troll doesn’t want to debate the ‘Barracuda’?
November 24th, 2009 at 10:15 pmExactly, P.D. And we will be merciless. There is no reason in the world why any sane person could possibly think that Palin is qualified for any public office.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:16 pmP.D.
By the time they finish purging the GOP there’s going to be, at least, two parties. I just hope that bloodshed is kept to a minimum.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:17 pmJane@83. That is my DREAM. Let her run. Who will be her running mate? Glenn Beck? Huckabee? Man, the Righties fawning over this woman will bite them on their ass. Remember NY23? This ‘Purity’ test will be the GOPs downfall. Fine with me.

Why not discuss “climategate”? So far I’ve seen excerpts from two, out of thousands, of stolen emails which the Reichwhiners are claiming constitutes proof that “global warming is a scam/hoax” plus a few more that make fun of cranks for being cranks. That behavior, according to the best data, predates the written word.
One of the scientists quoted has published the entire email which clearly takes the position that, despite gaps in the data, climate change is very real. That’s the opposite of what the Reichwhiners are saying.
I haven’t seen a reply to the other one which I read as a discussion of how the data made sense when another scientist’s “trick” (i.e. mathematical model) was applied.
Plus, all the emails were private conversations between scientists which include speculations that may, or may not, prove accurate.

How can any thinking person believe that someone who Believes in an imminent Rapture is capable of planning for the future?
He doesn’t Believe in the effing future. Heck! His way of walking back from stating the world will end in this generation was to blather about how many Biblical Prophesies have come true. Everything I’ve seen from him seems to indicate a Belief that Jesus will be back any minute now and the real fun can begin.
I mean no offense to any Believer of any Faith but, how can someone who Believes the world is about to end be trusted in any public office?

found the following sites informative over the weekend when that story was breaking:
[...]
The e-mail, which includes Jones’ correspondence with other researchers and journalists, can be searched here.
The RealClimate Web site, a forum for climate change scientists, disputed skeptics’ claims that the e-mails showed any attempt to manipulate results. “More interesting is what is not contained in the emails,” the site noted. “There is no evidence of any worldwide conspiracy, no mention of George Soros nefariously funding climate research, no grand plan to ‘get rid of the MWP’ [Medieval Warm Period], no admission that global warming is a hoax, no evidence of the falsifying of data, and no ‘marching orders’ from our socialist/communist/vegetarian overlords.”
Judging from the data posted, the hack was done either by an insider or by someone inside the climate community who was familiar with the debate, said Robert Graham, CEO with the consultancy Errata Security. Whenever this type of incident occurs, “80 percent of the time it’s an insider,” he said.
E-mail data dumps are a familiar way of settling grudges in the hacker community, but they happen in the political world too. Last year, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s Yahoo Mail correspondence was published after a hacker managed to reset her account password.

“I work in electrical engineering where I use words and phrases that, taken out of context, could be misinterpreted as nefarious by people who are ignorant of the context or who have an axe to grind,” he explains. “For example, I regularly talk about ‘fiddling with’ or ‘twiddling’ the data, ‘faking out’ something, ‘messing around with’ testing, and so on. … No matter how much the deniers scream, these emails aren’t likely to reveal any evidence of scientific malfeasance. And even if they do, there’s an entire globe of researchers whose independent research has bolstered the case that climate disruption is real and that it’s predominantly caused by human civilization.”
The blog at RealClimate.org has also had a look at the emails and points out, “More interesting is what is not contained in the emails. There is no evidence of any worldwide conspiracy, no mention of George Soros nefariously funding climate research, no grand plan to ‘get rid of the MWP’, no admission that global warming is a hoax, no evidence of the falsifying of data, and no ‘marching orders’ from our socialist/communist/vegetarian overlords.”
But meanwhile, figures on the right are having a field day. The blogger quoted above, James Delingpole, is particularly scathing, claiming that “In the run up to Copenhagen, we will see more and more hysterical (and grotesquely exaggerated) stories such as this in the Mainstream Media. And we will see ever-more-virulent campaigns conducted by eco-fascist activists. … The world is currently cooling; electorates are increasingly reluctant to support eco-policies leading to more oppressive regulation, higher taxes and higher utility bills; the tide is turning against Al Gore’s Anthropogenic Global Warming theory.”
Perhaps the final word on the matter has already been offered by a spokesperson for Greenpeace, who told the Guardian, “If you looked through any organisation’s emails from the last 10 years you’d find something that would raise a few eyebrows. Contrary to what the sceptics claim, the Royal Society, the US National Academy of Sciences, Nasa and the world’s leading atmospheric scientists are not the agents of a clandestine global movement against the truth. This stuff might drive some web traffic, but so does David Icke.”

my son is a chemist – he has a way of explaining things that most of us ordinary people would find confusing, at best…

scientists are just different… i say that with love…
Apologizing in 3…2…1…..
November 24th, 2009 at 11:35 pmHuckabee admitted that he feared Limbaugh more than he did the Devil. “I can hide from the Devil, but Limbaugh will seek me out even if I hide in a manhole,” he said.

STFU db!tchass, I’ve shut you down before.
Your posts show that you are nothing but a mindless follower. Look at the university. Have you ever heard of it? Suddenly you put that obscure university nobody’s ever heard of in the same category as a MIT or Cal? Please…and the Ramussen poll has been posted by another one of your fellow trolls. You’ve never had an original point of view and you’ve never contributed anything here worthwhile. Still feel free to spew whatever shit and just be thankful TP actually tolerates your ass, because if you’d have been a liberal on Free Republic, your ass would have been banned a long time ago.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:46 pmAnd now we see the face on the polodinal cyst on Phlegmball’s ass. It is the face of a Huckabee.

Huck the Cluck: another gutless gooper, a veritable profile in cowardice, like almost all goopers in the 21st century (so far, but don’t hold your breath…).
November 25th, 2009 at 1:14 amOle Huck don’t mind playing to both sides of the fence; those that are way off in ditto land and those that he might fool with his religious creds..
November 25th, 2009 at 4:51 amwhoop de doo.
What a loser.
and a reflection on the party eh?
Apparently one can’t get away from the lies and hypocrisy if one wants to succeed in GnOPerland.
Note how Huckabee naturally assumes that any criticism of Rush will result in a war. This speaks volumes about the right wing in America, where no disagreement is tolerated. They are basically fascists without the balls and brains.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:42 amRush Limbaugh is the 2nd Coming of Christ per his followers. Calling President Obama the “messiah” is truly bullcrap at this point isn’t it?

Gotta agree with you on this one olby, politically speaking, huckabee is a washed up hack, loved by hicks and his bloated carcass is face down on the bathroom floor, his mouth is full of fried peanut butter and banana sandwich, he’s clutching a playboy with a centerfold out and a semen splatter on sarah’s face…

Do you know how to discuss anything that is on topic? Whenever you show up, you always seem to want to force us to discuss something other than the subject of the thread. You never prove anything you say (or allude to). This is why people don’t like you, and why they vote you down as soon as you show up.
Try having a mature, fact-based discussion about the topic of the thread for a change. Otherwise, find some other site to annoy.

Does that mean that Huckleberry’s going to die as a bloated drug addict sitting on a toilet?
