It is becoming increasingly clear that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the right-wing lobbying giant, is not actually the “voice of business” when it opposes climate action. Yesterday, the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce became the latest organization to distance itself from the national chamber’s reactionary stance on global warming and clean energy legislation. In a policy statement, Chamber President and CEO Phil Bussey said, “The Greater Seattle Chamber is one of the most environmentally progressive business organizations on the West Coast”:
In short, we are the “captains of our own destiny” and our positions are not dictated by the U.S. Chamber on this or any other matter.
“The incident,” the Puget Sound Business Journal writes, “again underscores the fact that the business community, far from being monolithic, is just as politically diverse as the rest of the country.”
petition @chamberpost: The US #Chamber does not represent me. It is Not My #Chamber! http://act.ly/1cc #notmychamber #p2
The Boulder Chamber is completely unaffiliated with the U.S. Chamber. They are a membership association and we have chosen not to be a member. . . . We are committed to Boulder's environmental, economic and social sustainability. As is appropriate, the Boulder Chamber reflects the community values in which we live, work and play.
Ah, the sweet sound of reality crushing right-winger obstructionism.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:09 pmRight on, progressive captains of industry! Proof you can still foster a business friendly environment geared towards positive economic growth AND not cripple the environment and general well-being of the populace.
Huzzah!
November 24th, 2009 at 2:09 pmWhy does the Chamber of Commerce hate the Chamber of Commerce?
November 24th, 2009 at 2:11 pmWhen I was an independent businessman i belonged to my local chamber. It was a good group of diverse people.
The U.S. Chamber seems to be becoming an undeclared PAC for the Republican Party.
Their narrow view excludes so many they want to include. Will they learn? We’ll see.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:12 pmThe US Chamber is too hidebound and short-sighted to realize that there is a hugely profitable future in green technologies.
Hopefully, they’ll soon go the way of dinosaurs everywhere.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:12 pmYeah, but what would happen if the Seattle/Tacoma/Remond area were to get some businesses there ? Or some import/export shipping lanes ? Bet there would be a change !

November 24th, 2009 at 2:19 pmSign the petition above; it can’t hurt & just may help.
Tom Donahue & the USCofC are dinosaurs, plotting to sustain the status quo while pretending to speak for Chambers nationwide.
They’re like the Becksturbator, espousing good intentions and blowing their horn while completely ignoring the exit of sponsors & members.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:21 pmTake away the bloated egos and rampaging greed and they’re just like the rest of us.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:27 pmSeattle is just a cool city. You cannot deny it.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:33 pmMany local Chambers do NOT support the Right-Wing-Fanatic-Agenda of the “U.S. Chamber of Commerce”.
We belong to two local Chambers…they spend time trying to convince members (that might threaten to leave) that while they support business, they DON’T support the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
You can see the Agenda of Psychos here:

It’s a good sign. When business’s start turning their backs on the regressives, that’s all she wrote…..
November 24th, 2009 at 2:37 pm@6, what would change?
November 24th, 2009 at 2:38 pmLots of people only think of windmills or ethanol when speaking of green technologies. But “going green” means much more. Simply by modernizing the transportations systems of the USA, by developing a system of high speed trains would save a lot of fuel and increase speed and effectivity of transport AND bussiness associated with the transport of cargo and passengers, using technologies already existing in the USA. An airplane hull designer can produce also train wagons. Avionics can be used in locomotives controls. Batteries and servo controls can be used in trains, too.
Ridiculing green technologies is ridiculing the own discurse.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:41 pmCan anyone remember: I seem to remember about 5 years ago a massive spam campaign that claimed to be associated with the US Chamber of Commerce.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:14 pmWay to go Alex Castellano,
I hope you accomplish the same great things for your new GOP clients.
November 24th, 2009 at 5:31 pmPrescott Bush Jr. was the CEO of the “United States of America – China Chamber of Commerce”. Their mission was to link American business people, who wanted to outsource American jobs and build new factories in China, with Chinese officials. Prescott Bush, with President George W. Bush’s help, outsourced millions upon millions of good paying American jobs to China during AWOL Bush’s presidency.
Bush created millions of jobs during his presidency but sadly, they were all located in China.

November 24th, 2009 at 9:58 pm“The Greater Seattle Chamber is one of the most environmentally progressive business organizations on the West Coast” Who gives a shit! What waste of good oxygen. Hasn’t anyone seen the reports of the hacked e-mails at the AGW, showing the cooking of the “global warming” books all these years? Where’s the coverage? Even Pravda would have covered this one! I can only find it on Faux News.
