Canadian comedian Mary Walsh (playing the character of Marg Delahunty) attended a Sarah Palin book signing in the United States last week and asked the “thrilla from Wasilla, the Alaskan Aphrodite” if she had “any words of encouragement for the Canadian conservatives who have worked so hard to try to diminish that kind of socialized medicine we have up there.”
“Keep the faith and that common-sense conservatism,” Palin said to Walsh, who was being pushed out of the store by bodyguards. “It needs to be plugged into Canadian policies too. Keep the faith!” Palin cried out.
After the event, Walsh waited in the loading dock of the Borders bookstore “close to where Palin’s bus was parked.” Palin came over and energetically encouraged Walsh to “keep the faith” again and suggested that Canada needs to reform its health care system to “let the private sector take over”:
WALSH: Ms. Palin, I tried to ask you a question inside, but I didn’t hear your answer! The Canadians! Ms. Palin!
PALIN: Well, my answer was too keep the faith. My answer was to keep the faith. Cause that common sense conservatism can be plugged-in there in Canada too. In fact Canada needs to reform its health care system and let the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed. So thank you, keep the faith.
Watch it:
In Canada, “the private sector” is already “a crucial part” of the Canadian health care system. The federal government finances the basic health care plan, (through a “Medicaid-like arrangement in which Canada’s 10 provinces and 2 territories jointly fund” the system), but care is independently organized and managed by each province or territory. Canadians spend billions on private supplemental coverage and physicians work in private practices. Everyone has access to care, and patients “can see any doctor they want anywhere in the country with no copays or deductibles.”
While the system has longer waiting periods for certain elective surgeries, research suggests that Canadians do enjoy better access to care and “superior” health outcomes compared to Americans. According to a Commonwealth Fund of deaths that could have been prevented “with access to quality medical care in the leading 19 industrialized countries,” the United States ranked last and Canada came in sixth.
Palin is the gift that keeps giving. I have never seen a more clueless individual in my life.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:04 pmBig surprise… Palin also doesn’t know a thing about Canada… even though she can see it from her window.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:05 pmPalin: always stupid and always wrong.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:06 pmI’d like to suggest that Palin kiss my half-Brit, half-Canuck arse.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:07 pmWhy not deregulate Canada’s banks, reinstate their death penalty, and suggest they invade a Middle Eastern country that never attacked them?
This woman’s ignorance is jaw-dropping.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:07 pmShe got punked and has no clue.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:08 pmbut conservative guy is sure the U.S. system is the greatest in the world. How can this be?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:08 pmdbad@7, lol! Bscause cg is as clueless as his pin=up gal, Sarah.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:11 pmYOU betcha!
STEAL every, single, last penny from the American’s pockets!
YOU betcha! That is the American way…let business, better yet, BIG, HUGE, “TOO Big to Fail” business…REACH right into your pocket and TAKE ALL your money!
Now THAT is what America is all about!
GOD BLESS us everyone…More so for mega-businesses!
*snarking all I can*
November 25th, 2009 at 12:11 pm“Government is bad,
November 25th, 2009 at 12:14 pmThat’s why I am desperate
To be part of it.”
Palin “Keep the faith.”
– - She’ll be the first nominee of the Christianist Party.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:15 pmDoes Sarah pass the Republiklan purity test?
You Betcha!
November 25th, 2009 at 12:17 pm#11, be absolutely clueless about every other nation in the world, just as you are about this one…
Just when you think she can’t get any more stupid, she does.

How she escaped being the main course for someone’s meal tomorrow, I’ll never know.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone.
I’m outahere!
November 25th, 2009 at 12:22 pmSomeone needs to inform Palin that we Canadians think she is a total idiot. She’s a laughing stock up here, someone who astounds us in that she has any supporters at all. Reading quotes from her is like a party game– see which makes us laugh the hardest, or gasp the loudest in astonishment at her ignorance.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:22 pmSo her bodyguards are the brains who decide which questions she can answer or not?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:22 pmHappy Turducken day, PLC!! Travel safe if you’re goin on the road.!
November 25th, 2009 at 12:25 pmFritz, we’re going to have to invent a new vocabulary to discuss the depth of her stupid, her stupid goes beyond the boundary of known stupid. She is boldly going where no stupid has gone before, to explore new stupid, to speak new stupid to make the known world safe for stupid! (cue the Star Trek theme).
November 25th, 2009 at 12:25 pmTundra, why are you here on the stupid brunette thread and not down on the stupid blonde thread arguing that we weren’t attacked by terrorists on 9-11?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:27 pmNot that I believe for one minute that Princess Snowbilly will ever run for office again but it would be worth it if she did if only because she might be the only R dim enough to advocate eliminating Medicare so the private sector can take over geriatric care. Has a political candidate ever been beaten to death by a walker?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:28 pmBobwurst, regardless of how much stupid Failin’ Palin can achieve, her supporters go even further.
The scariest part of this is that they are American voters.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:32 pmShe’s so f’ing STUPID. Almost all health care in Canada is done by non government organizations – its just PAID by the Government.
When will “Conservatism” at least grow some brains again?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:33 pmMore and more, Canada’s public-private plan seems like the perfect solution for America. Private insurers get to stay in business and the public get universal access to care.
…(SIGH)…
November 25th, 2009 at 12:33 pmOh good, Palin can run for President of Canada, and fix them right up.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:33 pmIt’s almost as if she doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

Wiz says:
Oh good, Palin can run for President of Canada, and fix them right up.
YES! That’s a PERFECT solution! She should become a Canadian citizen. And move to Canada. And stay in Canada. Forever.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:36 pmEvery day we are treated to some of the best political entertainment in the world. Only Italian politics (Berlusconi) is more fun to watch.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:36 pmIt seems that Palin isn’t just content to be the laughing stock of America.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:38 pm“YES! That’s a PERFECT solution! She should become a Canadian citizen. And move to Canada. And stay in Canada. Forever.”
If only that would happen.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:39 pm25. Wiz,
Just because Canada doesn’t have a President won’t stop her from running.
;-)
November 25th, 2009 at 12:39 pmED@32: we can only hope…
November 25th, 2009 at 12:40 pmHas Sarah Palin ever once explained why her conservative ideas are better than what is currently being done? Has she ever once explained how changing from a more liberal way of doing something to a more conservative way of doing it would be better for everyone involved? Has she ever once explained her view to the point where someone listening would say, “Okay, she really does understand what she’s talking about,” or has she simply repeated talking points as though they were reasoned arguments in and of themselves? Why is she so popular, when she is clearly so uninformed?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:43 pmOh, come on, P.D. Did you miss the Dana Perino thread earlier?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:46 pmralph@35, LOL! I stand corrected! But both of these broads, in fact, ALL Repug broads are clueless. Why side with a Party that treats you as second class?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:53 pmcut n’ run palin needs to keep her fat trap shut on issues she has no clue about. which pretty much means she needs to keep her piehole shut 24/7 and act as eye candy for fatass, pimply, cancervative men who can’t get laid unless they pay.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:54 pmDoes Sarah know that Canada hasn’t had any bank failures? Maybe she’d like to see some good-ole American deregulation up there. Y’know, let the private sector do its magic on their economy, cuz everybody in the world envies America and wants to be just like us.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:55 pmFritz says:
Wiz says:

YES! That’s a PERFECT solution! She should become a Canadian citizen. And move to Canada. And stay in Canada. Forever.
NO GOD DAMN WAY
November 25th, 2009 at 1:00 pmSarah can see Canada from her house, so therefore she’s an expert on all-things Canadian.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:01 pm@39. Absolutely, Sarah can stay in the US. Canadians already had to deal with Brian Mulroney, we’ve suffered enough. Besides, the US wants to send Canada people, give us back a few of our celebrities. :)
November 25th, 2009 at 1:05 pmIt’s starting to sound like this is Sarah’s special own “Let Them Eat Cake!” moment.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:05 pmThe stupid people are those who even ask her questions. It is the same concept in IT, crap in, crap out. Why anyone would be shocked by her stupidity is beyond me. You cannot fix stupid so move along.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:05 pmSarah’s own particular brand of stupid is so intense it might be better spelled backwards, as in ‘diputs’. Used in a sentence:
Sarah’s diputs are in fine form this morning!
November 25th, 2009 at 1:06 pmPalin actually stated SHE wanted to interview Couric to see if she learned anything! Yeah, that’s right.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:07 pmpoor cut n’run palin, twice now she’s gotten punked by canadians. first the morning talk show hosts pretending to be sarkosy and now this.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:08 pmI love that Canadian humor.
Remember the President Sarkozy comedy routine ?
Sarah never learns.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:11 pmIs is because she can see Canada from her porch????? Her rhetoric is as rough and haggard as her looks………
November 25th, 2009 at 1:11 pmwell as a Canadian, I have a suggestion for her but I am a lady so will keep the bad words to myself…but she really needs to BUTT OUT
November 25th, 2009 at 1:16 pmLet the private sector take over Palins religion.
Oh. Wait. It. Has.
Iesouv Khristov is not happy.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:21 pmShorter Palin: Forget Jesus healing, Canadian need shareholder healing!
November 25th, 2009 at 1:22 pm“Keep the Faith and that common sense conservatism.” Yeah. OK Sarah. That’s done WONDERS for us the last 8 disasteruos years! What a moron.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:29 pm‘Keep the faith”
This is what we’re up against – a ‘faith-based’ conviction that only the private sector can be effective. It is a conviction which (in its purest adherents) is utterly immune to evidence and amendment. Palin is emblematic of the absolute WORST sort of person to put in charge of public policy; she is completely immune to logic or information which goes against her pre-conceived ideas. Alaska is very fortunate that she quit her job there so quickly.
We don’t need government officials who are so militantly ignorant; we suffered from that too much already.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:33 pmWe have to keep this up. The ONLY reason they like her is because we libruls don’t. We laugh at her! Treat her unfairly! That proves she’s the right candidate!
Please run her! and Glen Beck and lou Dobbs!
If the corporate interests that own the Republican Party but seemingly are having a hard time running it right now get control, and run a ticket like Colin Powell/Christine Todd Whitman in ‘12, The might have a shot at getting back into power again….
November 25th, 2009 at 1:36 pmSo let’s make fun of Sarah some more! Cuz she really scares us, deep down inside!
Yeah, that’s the ticket!
[/lovitz]
Jesus was a lobbyist for the empire of robber barons dontcha know?, you bethca!

Palin is another GWB who was impervious to logic, common sense and pragmatism.

BEST explanation of how the Canadian system works I have heard yet. No one mentions how the Private insurance companies work in Canada so most Americans believe there is no private market in Canada.
As a Canadian living in the US and just having had surgery I miss the simplicity of the Canadian system. I was in an insurance quagmire for over a month after leaving my job – during this time I had a severe accident that required emergency room treatment & surgery. I was sent from one emergency room to another because I didn’t have proof of insurance – they actually had to call around the city to find an orthopedic surgeon who was willing to take an uninsured patient. I also had to cancel surgery while I straightened out the insurance causing a 10 day delay. I could have had the surgery the scheduled day but I would have had to pay 50% of the cost of the surgery up front (about what i paid for 2 years health insurance in Canada).
So, tell me Ms. Palin, how would Canadians be better off with an American style health care system?
November 25th, 2009 at 1:50 pmTundra, thanks for the advice. We will file it in the appropriate place.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:53 pmWe all knew that Bible Spice doesn’t know anything about anything. What I’m wondering is; why was Ms. Walsh kicked out?
Were the guards aware that she was an actress or didn’t have press credentials? Were the guards instructed to remove anyone outside an approved list of press? Or, were they instructed to remove anyone who actually asked a question rather than passively showing the throng of devoted fans?
My guess is the later. We all know that she doesn’t take random questions.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:05 pmHow would Canada be better off with an American style of anything at this point in time? Palin, mind your own business. No one here interested in your flawed and ridiculous ideologies. Moron.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:10 pmPalin actually thinks the system in the US works. I am pretty sure the Canadians are not that dumb enough to believe her. Palin will you stop embarrassing us, you do not represent the norm here in the US, because you are DUMB.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:18 pmPalin, mind your own business. No one here interested in your flawed and ridiculous ideologies. Moron.
I fully agree with you, people that aren’t citizens of a country should keep their trap shut about it’s politics.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:25 pm34 Wayne A. Schneider says:
Has Sarah Palin ever once explained why her conservative ideas are better than what is currently being done?
==============================================================
No she hasn’t but if she did it would probably go something like this:
Palin on conservatism: We must remove these traitorous, godless liberals and their unAmerican policies from our government and return to conservatism which ya know is patriotic and godly and beautiful.
Palin on conservatism strategy to save our country: We need to give tax cuts to the elite and wealthy and give tax cuts to all of the corporations which as ya know will create millions of new jobs. We need to stop regulating businesses, Wall Street and Banks because it handcuffs them and puts them all at a disadvantage…We also need to kill all Muslims in the name of baby Jesus!
November 25th, 2009 at 2:39 pmYO turdrama, you’re reeeeeally confused, even by troll standards. The Perino thread is about her lying about there being no terrorist attacks in the US during bush’s terms in office. The Afghanistan thread is something else, and, as usual, you missed the part where I was reminding President (and Nobel Peace Prize winner) Obama that if he screws around like LBJ did, he’ll lose the support of his base too. Because, unlike the repubs, we put country before party.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:39 pmI think Marg may have finally met her match in Palin. Most politicians know to keep their mouths shut and smile while Ms. Delahunty rips them to pieces. It increases their likability, having a sense of humour. Palin, however, doesn’t even know it’s a joke.
Palin would lose Manhattan to a Nigerian scam within the first 30 days of any meaningful office.
BTW, Canada has had 3 territories since 1999.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:40 pmSomeday Tundra might pull it’s head out of it’s ass. When that day comes, if ever, it is going to realize how stupid it really is.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:40 pmGood. Now we won’t have to hear the Reichwing perspective on the politics of Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, or any other foreign country.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:41 pmIf she really wants to help the Canadains, she’ll try the ol’ shock and awe and spread that good ol’ US style of democracy. I’m sure they would greet us with roses and chocolate and green beer.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:45 pmI’m Canadian and if Palin came up here spewing that we would run her out of the country so fast it wouldn’t be funny!
November 25th, 2009 at 2:48 pmMary Walsh:
Haha!! What a great video. I have to watch it again.
:)
November 25th, 2009 at 2:53 pmGreat idea. And while you’re at it, Canada, invade a country that is no threat to you. Like say….Hawaii.
Sarah Palin, terminal dumb ass.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pmMaybe Dana Perino could be Palin’s press secretary — two clueless – but cute – republicans. That’s how repugs like their women isn’t it?
November 25th, 2009 at 3:10 pmI am laughing as I think up scenarios where Palin would comment on something and Perino would explain it to the press.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:12 pm>I am laughing as I think up scenarios where Palin would comment on something and Perino would explain it to the press.
I just thought of about 1 year’s worth of cartoons. Make Bachmann the VP and u have the trifecta. Hilarious premise.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:21 pmUm…Sarah, dear? Last time I checked, Canada is neither a state nor a territory of the United States — which means that even though you’re entitled to an opinion, it’s up to them and not you to make decisions regarding what they believe is best for their people. Even if you knew much about Canada — and it seems only too clear that you do not — what the Canadians choose to do with their own country is ultimately none of your damn business.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:39 pmYES! That’s a PERFECT solution! She should become a Canadian citizen. And move to Canada. And stay in Canada. Forever.
Don’t you threaten us with Sarah Palin…what did we ever do to you???
And as a Canadian, i have never seen a politician as stupid, ignorant as her.
I realized now….AMERICA IS REALLY BEING DUMB DOWN. Scary!!
And one last note….We Canadians would riot, pillage and kill anyone, any corp or industry that tries to take away our Single Payer System!!!!!
DID YOU READ THAT SARAH??? A…. I FORGOT,..SHE WENT TO FIVE SCHOOLS IN SIX YEARS….SHE DOESN’T READ….RIGHT Catie Kuric interview.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:40 pmWay to go Palin…keep that direction going and soon all will hear the outrage Canadians have with that idea. They know they have a good thing going and we will hear, if cable media allows , just how good their universal health care system.
Hey Palin, pi$$ off more nations and get that attention you so desperately need.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:54 pmSarah, Vain and Small
November 25th, 2009 at 3:55 pm77 NOLIESPLEASE
Hope to hear more of that from other Canadians.
Yes, America IS dumbed down as cable news, news that too many rely on has corporate interests in insurance, pharma, defense…
Thom Hartmann spends much time on this subject… the trans national corporations…. cable news airs what they want us to see plus congress is also bought by these goons.
If more like yourself can get out there and speak the truth, there would not be so many stupid Americans.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:06 pmDang Canucks have to stop pranking Sara Cariboob. Quit hogging the limelight, guys. Those of us in the Lower 48 Provinces who are gonna get it have got it and you’re completely over the heads of those who don’t and can’t. We gotta let someone else pick on her for awhile. Of course, she’s kind of an acquired taste, as doofae go, so, never mind, go ahead. We’ll let ya know if anyone else wants to take a cheap shot. Oh, never mind that, too; she’ll announce her own availability – she always does.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:12 pmMore OT.
Countdown ran an excellent piece on the Sarah Cariboob foreign policy last night. She did the true conservative schtick of having the laying on of hands by Billy and Franklin Graham. She is definitely an ‘end-timer’ Christianist, so give her the launch code football, by gollies. She’ll turn the key and bring on some Armageddon, you betcha.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:17 pm@63. Tundra says: … I fully agree with you, people that aren’t citizens of a country should keep their trap shut about it’s politics. November 25th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
that’s brazenly silly, Tundoodoo. I think we should welcome the opinions of anyone. We’ve never been shy about telling everyone else in the world how screwed up they are, so we certainly should be willing to receive.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:28 pmVirtual Pebble, Tundra doesn’t reallly mean it, if he did, he’d want us out of Iraq and Afghanistan…
November 25th, 2009 at 4:48 pmAny intelligent person – certainly an experienced politician – unfamiliar with a specific subject would say something like, “I prefer to focus on American healthcare reform.”
It’s obvious Palin isn’t any intelligent person. In fact, I’m beginning to suspect the woman is actually brain dead.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:16 pmdasmn,
I’m much more concerned about her fans. If you haven’t seen the video of the crowd at her book signing? You’ve got to watch this. And Cenk’s commentary is amusing too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27QTX46XNLM
November 25th, 2009 at 5:29 pmCanada and Europe have had socialized medicine for decades. All of the countries have a democratic system of government. If we are to believe that the people in those countries hate socialized medicine, then it stands to reason that duly elected governments would have abolished socialized medicine. But they have not and the governments have been lead by various conservative and liberal parties. Maybe one of our resident conservatives can explain why these countries still have socialized medicine after all these years.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:30 pmPull the string on her back and she talks!
“Keep the faith!”
“Common-sense conservatism!”
She is the “nectar of the nitwit”- a bullshit-regurgitating automaton who only “speaks” to the “guns, gold & God crowd.”
Frightening.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:37 pmThe incredibly incurious Sarah Palin got her first passport in 2007. One seriously wonders how much time she has even spent in next-door Canada.
Her verbal diarrhea is apparently a chronic condition.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:44 pmShe’s just so ignorant. She opens her mouth and her stupidity falls out.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:46 pmdasmn says:
Any intelligent person – certainly an experienced politician – unfamiliar with a specific subject would say something like, “I prefer to focus on American healthcare reform.”
A few months back a Canadian politician said something about the US system and was promptly told to STFU.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:50 pmI wonder if mcaine realizes that he created a monster when he chose this dimwit as a running mate. We cant get away from this woman, she is everywhere. I will always hate mcaine for making this dimwit a household name. It also shows the rest of the world how many dumb Americans there are. The rest of the world laughed at us when bush was elected to a second term. You would think that the people who voted for bush would have realized that they made a mistake. But no, these same idiots would vote for palin. How pathetic and embarrassing.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:54 pmAnd the Winking Witch of Wasilla demonstrates once again why she and McCain lost the ‘08 election.
Everytime Sarah opens her mouth, republicans lose IQ points.
November 25th, 2009 at 6:13 pmThe Repukes charge that there are waits under our system are correct. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with two partially blocked arteries and stage 4 Prostate cancer within a week of each other. I had to wait eight days to receive treatment for the blocked arteries and two weeks for treatment of the cancer. I am still being monitored for both problems. One of my neighbours is an American citizen who married a Canadian girl and both have decided live in Canada because of the medical system up here, which is a good thing for them because he is now seriously ill with lupus.
November 25th, 2009 at 6:58 pmAnd don’t forget (as far as statistics and averages go) that Canadian citizens also enjoy a longer life expectancy nationwide compared to the lower life expectancy of U.S. citizens to their south.
And the average national life expectancy of citizens in other Western industrialized countries that have a similar universal healthcare system to Canada’s is also longer compared to the average life expectancy of all U.S. citizens.
Could this be one of the main reasons why all these other Western industrialized countries aren’t rushing to adopt the profit-driven U.S. “health” industry model? Are they nuts? Don’t they want to see they and their children’s life expectancy diminish to the U.S. level, while at the same time seeing their health costs double?
Get with the conservative program Canadians and Europeans. How dare you turn up your nose at the faaaaarrrr superior U.S. version, stymieing private companies (CEOs, boards of directors and investors) from making a killing financially off the ailing citizens in your societies. How dare you want to live longer and prosper more than U.S. citizens.
(Note: this is a rough translation of what Sarah Palin, the Republicans and the Blue Dog Democrats are really saying).
November 25th, 2009 at 7:54 pmOK Lady Palin, Canadians will consider letting private American blood-sucking health insurance monsters take over the health system after you Alaskans give back the Canadian panhandle coastline you stole some time ago. Otherwise just please shut up and go back to your frigging veranda.
November 25th, 2009 at 8:56 pmDidn’t Palin recently suggest that Israel should be allowed to “expand” its borders? Maybe she’d be okay with Canada expanding its borders as well. At least than Alaskans would be getting decent health care.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:34 amIdiot! Doesn’t she realize that countries that have a system of “socialized” medicine, such as Canada and Sweden report that they have better quality care and they are healthier in comparison to those of us here in the U.S.?
November 26th, 2009 at 11:46 amThe only people dumber than Palin are her “fans”!
Big surprise… Palin also doesn’t know a thing about Canada… even though she can see it from her window.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:33 pmThe only thing missing from the Canadian system is 35% off the top for for-profit health insurance companies. Oh, don’t forget, they are also missing out on companies cutting off their coverage if they really get sick or denying them coverage in the first place because they had acne when they were 12.
November 26th, 2009 at 1:17 pmI already live in Wisconsin – what’s a few hundred miles north, when you can escape the stupidity of the GOP and the Christianist hypocrites.
Canada is looking awfully good to me now. I like the cold and snow. Downsides to a move? Anyone?
November 26th, 2009 at 1:58 pmActually Palin seems very ill informed about the Canadian Health Care system. As a landed Immigrant in British Columbia, I had my second heart surgery there. I was in the hospital 34 days and paid $34.00 for hospitalization. My physician’s charges were covered by my husband’s Canadian union insurance. The hospital care in British Columbia was funded by BCHIS and it paid the hospital immediately. I am an RN with a work history of working in Intensive Care units, Post anesthesia Recovery, and hospital nursing supervision. I found the quality of care to be excellent in BC and no hassle about whether one could afford the cost of hospitalization. Palin’s silly comments just show she is totally out to lunch as far as being informed about the quality of medical care in British Columbia. But then, her not being informed about stuff seems to be her MO, that is for sure,.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:34 pmWhat a surprise to find Palin STILL doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
I can’t wait to see her run in 2012 and get her witless, worthless ass eviscerated AGAIN.
November 27th, 2009 at 12:34 amCanada is a single payer system. However, the hospitals are privately run non-profits. Doctors who want to set up a practice can do so anywhere, and they bill the government for services provided.
November 27th, 2009 at 1:04 pm@ 81. Dang it, it’s not bad enough that these Canucks were picking on our lovely Sarah Cariboob, some satirist named Rick Mercer is reported to have done the same thing to the Shrub; snuck in with a bunch of journalists when Shrub was a candidate and asked him something about a remark made by “Canadian Prime Minister Jean Poutine”.
I found the story in a “New Yorker”, November 23, 2009 ed., article by Calvin Trillin titled “Funny Food” (subtitled, “Is a National Joke becoming a National Dish?”) on the Canadian fries, brown gravy, and cheese curd dish, poutine.
November 27th, 2009 at 1:06 pm@ 106. Oh, yeah, the Shrub went for it; answered the question in all seriousness, you betcha.
Should have been followed by a pie in the face…
November 27th, 2009 at 1:09 pmPalin, this poor woman, is totally clueless. Having lived in Canada and experienced first hand their fine medical care in the province of British Columbia, I even wonder if Palin realizes that each province has their own type of medical coverage. I had heart surgery there, my second, and the surgery, hospitalization and nursing care were excellent, just like they were in Hawaii when i was insured by Kaiser’s Insurance for my first heart surgery. Palin is so out of contact with reality that she needs to study a bit more. Interventions are done early in a disease process in BC because the province has mandatory universal insurance. As a nurse who worked in a State Hospital in Texas, I have seen the price we pay for not insuring people. The diseases ravage the health of a person and finally they limp into a state financed hospital or some local hospital and it costs so much more than early intervention, not even counting loss of work and ability to care for ones family or ones self. Palin has to be practically brain dead or uncaring not to see the advantage of a national health care system.
