Two new polls report that former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh are the most powerful conservatives in the country. According to a 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair survey, 26 percent of Americans rate Limbaugh as the most influential conservative voice, followed by Fox News host Glenn Beck at 11 percent. In a Washington Post poll, a plurality of Republicans say Palin best reflects their “party’s core values,” and they would vote for her “if the presidential nomination battle were held today.” Two people who don’t fare as well in the Post poll are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney:
Just 1 percent pick George W. Bush as the best reflection of the party’s principles, and only a single person in the poll cites former vice president Richard B. Cheney. About seven in 10 say Bush bears at least “some” of the blame for the party’s problems.
The Post surveyed 804 “Republicans and Republican-leaning nonpartisans” for its sample. Palin is particularly popular amongst the “loyal followers of Limbaugh and Beck.” “Overall, 18 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents cited her as the person most representative of the party’s core values. … Among those who regularly listen to Limbaugh, however, Palin was cited by 48 percent, and among Beck’s viewers, it was 35 percent, far surpassing others.”
So, which of the Cheney girls voted for him?
November 30th, 2009 at 9:55 am“Among those who regularly listen to Limbaugh, however, Palin was cited by 48 percent, and among Beck’s viewers, it was 35 percent, far surpassing others.”
Clearly establishing the Limbaugh’s and Beck’s audience is comprised of complete morons.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:55 amSorry, Dick — you can’t vote for yourself. The poll numbers have been revised; Cheney now has 0 votes…
November 30th, 2009 at 9:57 amLOL! Hey, if the Conservatives want to make Palin, Beck and Limpballs the face of the Conservatives, more power to them. Funny how Georgie Boy has been dropped of the face of the Earth. Lord knows, these guys used to think he was a God.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:57 amWhat in heck is a “Republican-leaning Non-Partisan”?? Is that like “Military Intelligence”? Any one “Republican-leaning” is by definition “Partisan”!
November 30th, 2009 at 9:58 amFrom the WaPo article:
‘Nearly all Republicans have sympathy for Palin for the treatment she has received from the news media since she burst onto the national stage…’
I don’t have any sympathy for Republics in this case. She got in over her head, lied about it and now blames the media for reporting the truth.
Cheney’s support in that poll is a whopping .12%!
Remind me again why anyone should listen to anything he says…
November 30th, 2009 at 10:00 amAnd thank all that is holy that the conservative movement hasn’t sunk so low that they think that a Cheney presidency would be anything but a disaster. Apparently not ALL their brains have leaked out their ears.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:01 amThere’s a pretty sizable gap between Cheney and the rest of the “conservatives” on most issues. Cheney’s an old-school neo-con, the kind that generally doesn’t give a shit about social issues, or charity, or government in general…unless it’s granting massive leeway to corporate interests or generally Machieavellian foreign policy.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:01 amZimzone says:
From the WaPo article:
‘Nearly all Republicans have sympathy for Palin for the treatment she has received from the news media since she burst onto the national stage…’
Does that refer to the massive amounts of free advertising she’s gotten for her book tour? Or the “hotcha” Newsweek cover in her running shorts?
November 30th, 2009 at 10:04 amconniptionfit says:
And thank all that is holy that the conservative movement hasn’t sunk so low that they think that a Cheney presidency would be anything but a disaster. Apparently not ALL their brains have leaked out their ears.
My guess is that those whose brains haven’t leaked out still have their fingers in their ears.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:06 amJust 1 percent pick George W. Bush as the best reflection of the party’s principles, and only a single person in the poll cites former vice president Richard B. Cheney. About seven in 10 say Bush bears at least “some” of the blame for the party’s problems
Both Bush and Cheney flunk the Republican Purity Test.
Both the size of the Federal Government and the National Debt mushroomed during the Bush/Cheney Administration. The Federal Budget went from surpluses and paying off the National Debt to Deficit spending overnight, due in large part to cutting taxes for the wealthiest 2% of Americans. Spending on illegal wars further increased the National Debt, although never included in the deficit budgets.
Bush/Cheney were in favor of some form of amnesty for the estimated 12 million already here, as Reagan did, too, by the way.
Bush/Cheney opposed sending in the number of troops requested by the generals in Afghanistan.
Cheney – not so sure. He supports his daughter on this one.
8/10 is a passing score.
Bush fails on three points, giving him a score of 7/10.
Cheney fails on 4 points, giving hime a score of 6/10.
Were either Bush or Cheney to run today, neither would be eligible for RNC funding, not being “pure” enough.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:12 am@10, so it’s running out their noses? They prefer Limbaugh and Beck for God’s sake.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:12 amThe people who have sympathy for Palin are stupid twits. Palin FEEDS off the attention. She courts media constantly. The people who believe that are the same who thinks she is ‘Real’. Talk about morons.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:13 amRepublicans comprise only 23% of the population and at best, only a ‘plurality’ think Palin best represents their values. Broken down that means 5.29% of the population is enamored with Ms Palin…my question then is WY in the hell is she still news?
November 30th, 2009 at 10:14 am#14 machost..
because she still tops their list of presidential contenders.
as ridiculous as that may be.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:15 amTracy@16, Oh Yeah! Diverse field??? All I see is white bread. Admit it, your ‘Tent’ is disappearing. I guess it sucks to be you.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:18 amIt’s unanomouse..9 out of 10 knuckle-draggers would vote for Palin/Chaney, Palin/Beck, Limpball/Beck, Limpball/Palin or combo thereof. 1 out of 10 would vote any of above with Hitler as a tag on such as Chaney/Hitler or Palin Hitler. Loving ‘hate’ is where you find it…Republican platform.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:19 amBriseadh na Faire says:
Bush fails on three points, giving him a score of 7/10
The Republican’s consistently say that Bush ‘wasn’t a real conservative’
Yet he matches 7 out of 10 of their ‘purity test’ guidelines – and he matches more of them than most other current Republicans..
So aren’t they contradicting themselves? Why can’t they just admit.. if they were to have a figure that represented Republican ideals… he’d look a damn lot like George dubya Bush.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:19 am“About seven in 10 say Bush bears at least “some” of the blame for the party’s problems”
Interesting.
What are these “problems”?
Poor election results?
Lack of leadership?
Failure to implement core conservative principles in policies?
Not enough deference from the MSM?
The GOP doesn’t have problems, it IS a problem, a massive problem and it is entirely self-wrought.
The Republicans judging Bush are part of the problem. THEY voted for him because they’re idiots, and now they see Palin as a solution?
Typical! It’s someone else’s fault (Bush’s) and the solution is an even bigger, more incompetent idiot.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:20 amThe real question should be:
November 30th, 2009 at 10:21 amWho is this one person and just how much ZOLOFT is in their IV drip.?
The oldest girl….Joe Scarborough.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:21 amIf his name weren’t Richard, he’d still be called dick.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:21 amTracy__5 says:
don’t forget O’Reilly and Hannity. They too will have their say.
Have their say???
On what?
Have they said something of consequence.. ever?
November 30th, 2009 at 10:24 amTracy@23, You are buying into the Faux News hype. More young people get their news from Stewart, Colbert, Kieth and Rachel. The more your Party courts the radical Right-wing the more it will shrink. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it is true.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:24 amTracy__5 says: “We have a wide, wonderful and diverse field of candidates to choose from. I feel confident.”
Diverse? Wonderful? How so?
November 30th, 2009 at 10:25 amI’m shocked.
I’m guessing at this point they see Cheney as too “Soft” for their tastes.
Torture should have been public hangings without trial. Had Cheney done that, then they’d be behind him.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:25 amTracy__5 still thinks Hate Radio / TV has the answers.
She also believes Condi Rice was a great Sec of State…
November 30th, 2009 at 10:27 amTracy__5 says @16. And which one would you like to see run>
November 30th, 2009 at 10:28 amIf Palin, Beck and Limbaugh best reflect conservative values, then the conservative movement is really an organization of hate. I think that once their comments are played back for a nationwide audience, none of these three will have a snowball’s chance in he|| of being elected to any national audience and the GOP will lose in 2012. And now that Huckabee seems to be toast, having pardoned the “person of interest” in the quadruple cop execution in Washington State, who’s left?
November 30th, 2009 at 10:31 ammachost says: “Broken down that means 5.29% of the population is enamored with Ms Palin…my question then is WY in the hell is she still news?”
I can only answer that with another question:
Why did George Bush become President? He lost the popular vote, split the electoral vote and was then appointed by the Supreme Court.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:32 amOverall national public popularity does not guarantee political success or mark political power.
Karl Rabbies.
One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one
No is the saddest experience you’ll ever know
Yes, it’s the saddest experience you’ll ever know
`Cause one is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
One is the loneliest number, worse than two
It’s just no good anymore since he went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday
One is the loneliest, number one is the loneliest
Number one is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
One is the loneliest, one is the loneliest
One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do

November 30th, 2009 at 10:33 amtrace,
i voted you up for the pleasure of seeing people vote you down again.
whee!
:D
November 30th, 2009 at 10:38 amYes, your diversity consists of old white guys to very old white guys. Congrats.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:38 amPennsylvanianne says:
now that Huckabee seems to be toast, having pardoned the “person of interest” in the quadruple cop execution in Washington State, who’s left?
No one on the right, that’s who’s left.
ugh.. it’s like Abbott and Costello
November 30th, 2009 at 10:39 amNo, you don’t feel the least bit confident. You like the idea of projecting confidence here on a blue blog because you have a pathological hatred of the left and you’re addicted to trolling.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:40 amTracy__5 says:
Mike Steele’s name among influential Republicans.
He was on the list. – no one picked him.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:41 amTracy#35, Steele is a joke. And Huckabee? I don’t know if he will weather the storm that is brewing after he gave clemancy to the man who just killed 4 cops.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:41 amHe supports terrorists/Cop killers. Go figure the teabagging hicks would worship the terrorist enabler.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:41 amToken Steele lost another congressional district…yeah, what a great “success”.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:43 amWell, the teabaggers tossing George Dubya to the curb doesn’t surprise me one bit – don’t you eejits know that Dubbie was a LIBERAL??
/snark
November 30th, 2009 at 10:44 amYou’re being an anti-American/teabagger. Supporting a cop killer/terrorist is very unChristian.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:45 amAn overweight drug addict, a crybaby, a guy that harasses female staff with phone sex, a studly looking manly-man and a redheaded milf who has recently removed her wedding ring… diversity? or the makings of a porn movie…? (I know – bad mind movie…)
November 30th, 2009 at 10:46 amHuckleberry said he is leaning toward NOT running in 2012 — think the breaking rews about the deputy shooter might have played a role?
As for the repugs in general — they like to make sport of democrats (and we do too) as to their inability to work together, even though the mutual goal is the same — but the repugs have much more serious problems — their party is splitting and celebrities like Lintball and Bleck are leaders of their base, while the middle-of-the-road conservatives are losing ground by failing the “purity test” and inane teabagger criteria.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:46 amYeah, in terms of that Republican “Purity Pledge”…
it pretty much just confirms the Republican mindset as one focused on ideology rather than practical solutions to real problems. For instance, the first tenet:
” We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes”
Well, that is pure ideology, divorced from real world circumstances. they’re saying essentially that no matter how small the government, no matter how low the tax rate, they want to see it even lower.
Never mind that most conventional economics suggests that there are circumstances in which government deficit spending is advised — such as during an economic slowdown when the private sector is unwilling or unable to generate the economic activity that can help avoid a Depression. Doesn’t matter to Republicans… they want what they want.
And it’s funny that they say they support “lower deficits”. Bill Clinton left them as low a deficit as one can possibly generate — a surplus — and they squandered it in a hurry.
So let’s just say I’m a little bit skeptical of their devotion to this “purity pledge”.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:47 am@46, LOL! Chuck Norris! A B-rated has-been? Wow, I’m impressed! Snark!
November 30th, 2009 at 10:47 amAnd Huckster also has the support (and confidence) of cop killers and terrorists. Factor that into your estimation of the “man”.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:48 amTracy__5 says:
And did I mention that Huck has the support (and confidence) of Chuck Norris?
Right Tracy… cause who wouldn’t give tons of respect to Chuck Norris?… You gotta be kidding.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:49 amTrick queston. There are no conservative principles.
I had a conservative principal once.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:50 amThe ‘Lone Troll’ has spoken:
Huck’s work on behalf of the Christian civil rights movement has been outstanding.
Christian Civil Rights? WTF?
Did you have Zoloft for breakfast again? Christians are infamous for trouncing on others’ civil rights, troll. From the Crusades to Cathoholic Priests diddling little boys, they’ve displayed arrogance, greed and a death wish to other religions.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:50 amI imagine Huck also has the support (and confidence) of Maurice Clemmons.
At any rate, I suspect Tracist has been name-jacked. Not even our Tracist is likely to post something this stupid.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:50 amLet’s be fair, Chuck Norris pisses excellence, it’s true. But Tracy, nobody gives a flying F@ck about his political ideology.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:51 amTracy…?
Chuck Norris?? Seriously?? You’re holding up a Hollywood has-been to us as someone we should take seriously…? Really???
Well, I guess it shouldn’t surprise me too much – considering that the wingnut messiah Ronald Raygun was a washed-up Hollywood has-been.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:52 amthe old vote down troll is passin through..
is that you Tracy? Someone dash your hopes for a ‘pure’ nation
November 30th, 2009 at 10:52 am@ralph, I was thinking the same thing (Re: name-jacked).
November 30th, 2009 at 10:53 amWho is Dick Cheney?
November 30th, 2009 at 10:56 amI was thinking the same thing ralph. This Tracy seems like a parody troll.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:57 amChuck started off as a B-lister. Since becoming an anti-American teabagger he’s now a F-lister along side Pat Boone and Ted Nugent.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:58 amMaybe Blind Rat is the VDT.
November 30th, 2009 at 10:58 amWHAT is Dick Cheney?
November 30th, 2009 at 10:59 amI take it they didn’t poll any Democrats. :)
The number might have been closer to 100%.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:04 amVote me down all day Olbystalker, who cares? And you’d have no way of knowing who the namejacker is so STFU.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:05 amTeabaggers/Anti-Americans are so paranoid. No wonder you filth wear diapers 24/7.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:06 amTracy__5 says: You’re being unfair. Huck’s work on behalf of the Christian civil rights movement has been outstanding.
Sorry you misinformed hukabee lover but this country was not and isn’t a christian nation no matter what your 700 club bigots tell you…
re; the Treaty of Trioli
“Article 11 of the first treaty has been interpreted as an official denial of a Christian basis for the U.S. government.”

Maybe you should depend on facts and truths above your knowledge gathering from fox freaks and bigot pat robertson.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:10 amThe gooper’s have a shining new tent: a pup tent, which will serve them well in housing the few remaining idealogues they have left in their ever shrinking party.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:11 amHey Tracist__V
November 30th, 2009 at 11:12 amHow’s the golf game with your bestest “black” friend?
Made any derogatory remarks about women and college lately?
OlbySucksLongTime really needs to get some new catch-phrases.
The “Shocker!” and “Rinse repeat” gags are getting really old. Makes it look like our troll friend isn’t really trying.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:19 amYes, the gooper’s are great at rinse and repeat. And every time there are fewer and fewer of them. Thank god!
I love a good implosion with my morning coffee. And it couldn’t happen to a more worthy crowd.
I’m all for purity tests, Limbaugh/Beck being party leaders, Palin as the face of who knows what. The rabid 30%ers can have it all. The other 70% will be the grown up’s and use their brains. No party can suceed without the middle, so please, more purity tests!
November 30th, 2009 at 11:23 amRalph, you mean these two aren’t parody trolls? Come on, they have to be. They are too darned funny to not be!
November 30th, 2009 at 11:25 amMe? Nope. You lose yet again, Jeffy.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:27 amExactly. Rinse repeat from the 2008 and 2006 into 2010, 2012, 2014, etc. Conservatives will soon be written in the same chapter as Nazis.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:29 amI tune in to Beck and Limbaugh on occasion just for laughs.
And they are funny! They’re both walking talking oxymorons.
Folks who take these guys seriously have crippling mental health issues. Being a fan of either should put your right to vote in question.
November 30th, 2009 at 11:30 amthis thanksgiving,
i was thankful for olby sucks.
he loves this site so much!
thank you for watching, olby sucks!
:)
November 30th, 2009 at 11:35 amTracy: “We have a wide, wonderful and diverse field of candidates to choose from.”
Then what’s that “purity test” about? A “diverse field of candidates” and a “purity test” are mutually exclusive.
November 30th, 2009 at 12:23 pmTracy: “And did I mention that Huck has the support (and confidence) of Chuck Norris? Factor that into your estimation of the man.”
It’s just unfortunate that Tracy isn’t a parody troll. That would have been a good joke.
November 30th, 2009 at 12:25 pm@ 17. P.D. says: Tracy@16, Oh Yeah! Diverse field??? All I see is white bread. Admit it, your ‘Tent’ is disappearing. I guess it sucks to be you. November 30th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Ah dunno. Dang. P.D., if you read T_5s comment at #16 with a reasonable level of snark, it comes across as dead-pan parody troll. Could T_5 be upping the ante on What the GOP Really means …?
Nah. Couldn’t be. Ferg it it. Never happen.
But I do like the notion that WaPo’s pollster called Dick, Lynne, Liz, and Mary, and only one of them voted for Dick. The next Cheney family get-together ought to be interesting.
November 30th, 2009 at 12:49 pmRighties are “rightfully” ashamed of themselves,
and they should be.
November 30th, 2009 at 12:52 pm@ 86. The whack-job comment about Chuckie Norris almost clinched the ‘parody troll’ thing for this version of T_5 for me. It’s that, or our Tracist is having a nervous nellie moment; can’t handle the white man’s burden, no mo’, can’t spread the gospel of the trolls, no mo’, gagging on troll crap so deep that it can only pop out some lint and cliches.
November 30th, 2009 at 1:06 pmIt is disingenuous for the Republicans to blame GWB for the party’s problems. He did not force them to vote for his programs and legislation; they did it willingly. If anyone is to blame, it is the leaders of the Republicans who brought them to this point. Republicans should be looking at McConnell, Boehner and Cantor rather than GWB for the blame game.
November 30th, 2009 at 1:37 pmA nickel says the one is Joe Scarborough.
November 30th, 2009 at 2:48 pm@85. NinerFan says: Tracy: “And did I mention that Huck has the support (and confidence) of Chuck Norris? “And did I mention that Huck has the support (and confidence) of Chuck Norris?” is a great line, Niner, even if Tracy isn’t a parody troll. I fracking near fell out of my chair when I read it. If he isn’t a parody troll, he just did a king-hell Freudian slip that lets everyone in the blogoverse know just how naive and twitlike he is.
OTOH, that reminds me of a previous generation or two where a lot of idiots took John Wayne a tad too seriously; some of us ended up pretty badly maimed or dead because of that propaganda and I don’t suppose it’s out of the question that Norris and the other vengeance action zeroes could be used the same way.
November 30th, 2009 at 5:07 pmMarion Morrison never served although he got a bad rap in my opinion as a “chicken hawk.” He wanted to serve in WWII but was actually too old and was threatened with a lawsuit if he breached his contract to enlist. But I agree that he was absolutely wrong and a big dick about Nam.
At least Carlos Ray Norris served in the Airforce and was a legitimate martial arts master – but he’s an even bigger dick than Marion and Marion Morrison was a much smarter guy than Carlos Ray Norris has ever been.
November 30th, 2009 at 5:24 pmLet me state as clearly as I can for the record that I think Dick Cheney is an a s s h o l e. He also a no good low down lying cheating dog. You know what some dogs to, they eat s h i t including there own. Only if we could be so lucky.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:25 pm@ 92. NinerFan…
William Manchester, author of “Death of a President” on the Kennedy Assassination, wrote a memoir about his service as a young Marine officer in the Pacific in WWII. He (more or less) ended the war wounded and in a Navy hospital on Hawaii. In that memoir, “Goodbye Darkness”, he has a great story about Marion/John paying a visit to the hospital and being booed out. (Re: military history, etc, Manchester’s “Goodbye Darkness” and “American Ceasar”, the latter a biography of Douglas MacArthur, are excellent reads.)
