Yesterday on Fox News, RNC chair Michael Steele said that if he wasn’t currently leading the Republican Party, he’d join the ranks of the far right tea party protesters. “As I like to tell people — long before there was this big push on tea parties — if I wasn’t doing this job, I’d be out there with the tea partiers,” he said. This afternoon, Fox’s Neil Cavuto hosted Quincy, IL Tea Party co-founder Steve McQueen and asked him whether Steele would be welcome. “Not quite, Neil,” McQueen replied:
CAVUTO: Retired Army Sergeant First Class and tea party activist Steve McQueen saying, “Not so fast Mr. Steele.” He joins me right now. Steve, you would say “not quite,” right?
MCQUEEN: Not quite, Neil. Actually the Tea Party is, I liken that to an army of Davids which I am only one. I do confer with Tea Party organizations all over the country so I feel confident that I understand what the movement’s about and as I understand it right now, the GOP is currently on probation with the American people and obviously you can’t be on probation and probably be a member of the Tea Parties at the same time.
Watch it:
What about all of the other prominent GOP politicians who have been at tea party protests?
What makes Steele different from them, I wonder?
January 6th, 2010 at 6:08 pmSteele should understand that the reason he is not wanted by the tea baggers is, He’s the wrong color.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:09 pmNo kidding. How many loose-cannons does a movement need or want to control at any given time?
January 6th, 2010 at 6:10 pm*
If I was having a party (any party) I wouldn’t want Steele there.
Who knows what that nut job is going to do next.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:11 pmBWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Oh, my! Delusions of grandeur much…?
January 6th, 2010 at 6:14 pmPerhaps some of the “protestors” out there holding nooses might get confused, and some unpleasantness could result.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:20 pm“Please accept my resignation. I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member.”

#2 – angels81,
Take a look at the sign this guy is carrying. It makes your point quite clearly…
http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/guy-wants-be-leader-tea-party-moveme
January 6th, 2010 at 6:30 pmI suppose Michelle Bachmann passes the loon test to be given membership. Or perhaps, to paraphrase the old television commercial, she shows up at Tea Party functions and says, “I’m not only a member of the lunacy of the Tea Party, I’m also the president”.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:33 pmThanks dixie blood for the link.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:34 pmLocal Tea Party co-founder doesn’t want Steele ‘out there with the tea partiers.’
– - I’m reminded of Groucho Marx’s line: “I don’t care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members.”
January 6th, 2010 at 6:34 pmSo basically Steele kissed tea-bagger a** and got rejected? I guess you could say both groups hit a low point today: Steele for being…Steele and the tea-bagger’s and their racism (thinly veiled…this time).
January 6th, 2010 at 6:36 pmcould it be because Mr Steele is a different color?
a video posted Jan 6, 2010:
2 journalists went inside “White Power” groups. They found these groups want to become more mainstream and they found it with the Tea Party (14.5 minutes in)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXFuZwqGrCU
January 6th, 2010 at 6:36 pmJust how much a** kissing does Steele have to do to become a member of the tea party/john birch society? Bachman and DeMint are their poster children……Scarey bunch! this is going to be an interesting election year.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:37 pmSo is this guy indicating the tea partiers are racists, not wanting a black man in their midst?
http://www.political-buzz.com/
January 6th, 2010 at 6:40 pmre: #7
- – D’oh! Read, then post.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:43 pmThese radical teabaggers are worse than terrorists; only they are torturing the rest of us with their radical religious views, lack of education, lack of intelligence, lack of fashion sense, and lack of teeth.
When your own party won’t [can't] accept you, who will? Steele has never been accepted by the GOP [and never will be] not only because of his color [they only like whites as evidenced by the man in the video in Crooks and Liars], but because of his stupidity and hubris. Because he hasn’t been in the news for about a month, he had to [even if it's below the fold].
January 6th, 2010 at 6:47 pm(What about all of the other prominent GOP politicians who have been at tea party protests?
What makes Steele different from them, I wonder?)
He black!!!! On top of that, affirmative action does not work in the Tea Party Movement…lol….
Old mickey is getting a taste of his own medicine…
January 6th, 2010 at 6:50 pmThere’s no way Steele would be welcomed by the tea baggers. He wears glasses. That wreaks of “intellectual elitism.” Don’t even think about it, Mikey.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:53 pmliberalinaredstate says:
Just how much a** kissing does Steele have to do to become a member of the tea party/john birch society?
About this much.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:54 pmThe teabaggers don’t want Mikey make them look bad…worse.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:54 pmThis reminds me of the Groucho Marx quote . . .
“Last night I shot an elephant in my pajamas,
and how he got into my pajamas, I’ll never know.”
January 6th, 2010 at 6:58 pmSteele is black.
The teabaggers don’t do black.
End of story…

Don’t be so modest, Mr. McQueen – I’m sure the “movement” has many, many members who are on probation for one reason and another.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:06 pmtuckgraph says:
There’s no way Steele would be welcomed by the tea baggers. He wears glasses.
Or maybe it’s because he’s bald? He should perhaps wear a hat.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:08 pmSteele doesn’t fit in racially with Sarah Palin’s concept of “real Americans.”
The teabaggers want a white-preferring evangelical theocracy.
That’s what makes this whole movement tick.
Any teabagger that tells you otherwise is a liar.
They are all racists, and they hate Obama because he is not white.
Obama could abolish the income tax, declare abortion illegal, and come out against gay rights and alternative energies, and they would still hate him, because he isn’t white.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:09 pm…I understand what the movement’s about…
You racist, sore loser morons don’t have a clue about what you’re all about.
If any of you out there have ever been to one of these “TeaBagger” events, you know that they consist of the most moronic bunch of idiots you have ever encountered.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:09 pmI’m thinking Michael Steele would join anything for the right price.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:12 pmfunny how fox is bending over backwards to create the appearance there’s a “mass movement” afoot.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:12 pm“Army of Davids”
!?
try cult of kooks, pal.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:13 pmWhat is up with this probation thing? So now the GOP is on probation? It seemed as if the Tea Party and GOP were arm and arm together?
Is Dick Armies little grass roots lobbyist funded ultra right wingers escaping front the grasp of the GOP elders?
Hmm… do I smell a split starting to form among the conservative groups?
January 6th, 2010 at 7:14 pmNeil Cavuto invited this clown on his show because Neil Cavuto is one of them, and is just as racist as they are.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:14 pmSo I assume we’ll see some anti-republican protest signs at the next teabagger rally,(misspelled of course.)
January 6th, 2010 at 7:17 pm“Local Tea Party co-founder doesn’t want Steele ‘out there with the tea partiers.’”
i’d say that’s a benefit for mikey steele. afterall, what decent people want to be associate with that scumbag filth known as the “teabagging terrorists”?
January 6th, 2010 at 7:18 pmSC Mom at 23, thanks for that post.
The teabaggers that I know here in Florida are all a bunch of racists, many of them rather poorly educated and poorly socialized people.
They blame the government for allowing the darker “other” to invade this nation and take over the jobs and mate with “their” women.
They view Obama’s mother as a race traitor, and they use this language openly.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:23 pmSo, who’s the GOP’s probation officer?
Shouldn’t we know who to call if we see the Repugs consorting with felons or in possession of stolen property?
January 6th, 2010 at 7:24 pmThat’s how they appear here to me, evangenital.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:31 pmIt’s just a rebranding of the John Birch Society, KKK Light.
He’s no Steve McQueen. More like Steve McWeenie.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:36 pmmcqueen also appears to speak the “palinese” dialect. read his quote carefully, and get out your red pens.
i always feel a little embarrassed for someone who tries to use turns of phrase they are not fluent with, or tries to “dress up” their regular manner of speech to sound more important or intelligent, and that’s exactly what the in-way-over-his-head mr. mcqueen does in this apprearance with mr. cavuto.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:40 pmAn army of Davids . . .
I may need to reread that story.
I don’t remember “David” being a corporate tool.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:42 pmi don’t know who mcqueen thinks he’s kidding. the teabagging filth are the repukes “base” now that they’ve chased off all of the moderates and independents. i hope that strategy works out as well for them as i think it will…
January 6th, 2010 at 7:43 pmjim bowie?
cracker, please.
if there’s one man you ain’t, it’s jim bowie.
you’re stinking up American History with your stoopid, and i won’t stand for it.

January 6th, 2010 at 7:50 pm“We don’t want him. We don’t need him.”
All you need is a big mouth and a big knife, eh?
The tea-baggers have done the political equivalent of blowing ones own legs off. It is good news in a way, they just crippled their own party and the GOP.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:52 pmMuch like “Gabby” Johnson; I can picture this guy, on a roof, jumping up and down, screaming,”the sheriff’s a ni…”
January 6th, 2010 at 7:53 pmthere’s nothing more reprehensible than the wanton desecration of our actual history by these ‘bagger wingnut morons (beck, nugent, coulter, et al).
the very same people who mocked their history teachers and got F’s, now want to grab the megaphone and shout stupid shit about the people and events they failed to learn anything about in school.
beatin’s too good for’em, and jailin’em wouldn’t go far enough.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:55 pmTo clarify, the GOP is “on probation” until they get rid of Steele.
January 6th, 2010 at 7:57 pmSo with Steele, the number of black tea party members is up to, what, three?
January 6th, 2010 at 7:57 pmjeaton,
January 6th, 2010 at 7:59 pmI think it’s more like just Steele.
tombaker says:
“Army of Davids”
!?
Don’t know about an Army of David’s, looking at videos of their rallies lot of the guys look a bit too big to be compared to David.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:00 pmOf course, they rationalized their Fs by deciding that they must have “struck a nerve” with their teacher and pretended it was a victory for their “viewpoint”.

January 6th, 2010 at 8:01 pmThat’s cause they ate Goliath.
Why can’t an African American get elected to office as a
Congressmen,Senator or Governor in the GOP ?
January 6th, 2010 at 8:01 pmOn the other hand. It’s difficult to parody the teabaggers. They started from the point of being caricatures of all they claim to espouse and have grown more ridiculous, and disgusting, with each passing day.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:01 pmOh..My..Gosh.. Hehe lol..
January 6th, 2010 at 8:02 pmLets see how well the teabaggers are united in ‘12! They’re starting to split already: The Morons vs The Racist Morons who hate Obama just because of his skin color Yeah, they’ll really do some damage in two years. Too bad it’ll be on their side, not ours..
“Why can’t an African American get elected to office as a
Congressmen,Senator or Governor in the GOP ?”
because they filled their quota with steele would be my best guess.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:03 pmThe tea party movement has proved to be nothing but positive
January 6th, 2010 at 8:04 pmfor gun and ammunition sales.
The NRA is the primary purchaser of most elections in my region.
So, what the hell.
Bathe all the corporate corruption in a bible story and wrap it in a flag,
and you’ve got yourself a “movement”.
I think that “Army of Darkness” would be a better description than “Army of Davids”.
“Good Ashe? Bad Ashe? I’m the one with the gun.” (BOOM!)
January 6th, 2010 at 8:05 pmpete,
January 6th, 2010 at 8:06 pmtry “army of dooshbags”
it’s all too very bad, because i’m sure a fair # of these folks are otherwise ok, decent neighbors, coworkers, and whatever else…
too see them blindered and belligerent because of some monied up slick-dicks with glossy brochures and free hot dogs is just goddamned disheartening.
but – every chapter of history tells a similar tale, so what’s anyone, really, to do about it?
January 6th, 2010 at 8:09 pmBozo,
“Army of Dooshbags, “Army of Dimwits”, “Army of Defectives”, “Army of Dillholes”, “Army of Dumbphucks”. One can, pretty much, apply any negative and it fits. Heh! And that’s just the ones that begin with “D”.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:10 pmI heard Dick Armey on the radio today explaining that the GOP has its greatest electoral victories when it embraces the Far Right Wingnuts (although he phrased it differently). Dick ought to come out to Oregon to see how that has played out in the real world. He also claimed that this was true everywhere except in those Gerrymandered regions where the Democrat[sic] Party had distorted the true voting patterns (presumably of “real Americans”)–clearly, only through fraud could any region of the country embrace liberalism. I did want to ask why he was an Ex-congressman.
He was also whining about how real conservatives had occasionally been able to advance their system under Republicans but never under Democrats, but I don’t recall him claiming that their system ever worked. Not that I expect honesty from Dick Armey…
January 6th, 2010 at 8:11 pmSo, putting my distaste for Steele aside, Tea Baggers are holding a public demonstration for a certain political idea. Demonstration is in a public area.
And they are telling people who can and can’t be part of their public protest.
*) High School, “I’m having a party and I’m not inviting YOU”
January 6th, 2010 at 8:17 pm*) Doesn’t respect the right of others to be in a public area.
*) etc. etc.
tombaker:
You’ve got that right. I know lots of people, smart people and good, who have ended up drinking the FAUX Kool-Aid. Plus? They hate black people. Living in rural Minnesota; they’ve never met a black person but that doesn’t stop the hate. They remind me of “fussy” children who won’t eat anything that looks funny.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:17 pmpppppssssstttt…steeley damn, yea you, teatards don’t want your blackass nowhere near them. Can’t you see they are racist?
Talk about Uncle Ruckus.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:24 pmIf Mikey had a functioning brain, and a passing acquaintance with history, he would realize that he’s less than a token. He’s a “house ni99er” (apologies for using a vile old term). He’s the “savage” that gets introduced to society to demonstrate the prowess of his masters who subdued and trained him.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:31 pmSteele, they will never, EVER like you.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:37 pmAnd I bet they will make Token Mike the fall-guy and blame him when the Republicans have a less than stellar pick-up of seats in the upcoming elections.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:47 pmThese teabaggers were all poor students in school, and barely learned anything.
Now they’re braying out Obama, gays and the Third Reich.
Scott Lively, the holy roller scumbag who helped the Ugandan government draft its kill-the-gays (or anyone suspected), is now going around claiming that the gays in the Third Reich were chiefly responsible for the extermination of the Jews.
That a$$hole conveniently ignores the oft-proven fact that gays and socialists were among the first victims of the Third Reich, rounded up as early as 1934 into “labor” camps, with many later being gassed simultaneously with the Jews, gypsies, trade unionists, seminary professors and other types that didn’t fit in with the very stringent requirements of the “ubermenschen.”
Whenever you see a pink triangle associated with the struggle for full gay civil rights, you should know that the pink triangle was worn by gays in the concentration camps, to single them out from Jews and from other different categories of inmates.
Some of the same gay men, who had managed to stay alive during over ten years of Nazi detention were later imprisoned for “crimes against nature” by the Soviet-bloc nations after the war.
Scott Lively and the racist teabaggers are indicative of the sort of filth driving the repiggie bus these days.
January 6th, 2010 at 8:51 pmevangenital,
January 6th, 2010 at 8:58 pmI would like to say that Scott Lively is an idiot. But who is to say whom is the bigger idiot, the idiot himself or the idiots who follow him? Lively is a very dangerous individual as long as there are those that lend what he says any credibility whatsoever. That his nonsense gets any traction tells us a lot about the nature of deeply seated bigotry, and how easily those that follow blindly are far more deadly as instruments of the fantastic lies he and those of his ilk make up. So I think “theocratic fascist” would describe Mr. Lively accurately.

January 6th, 2010 at 9:06 pmThis may very well be the most self serving piece of crap quote I have ever read. It is intentionally contrived to imply the speaker of the words t o be somehow better then….
Dang, Mike, I already knew you never think before you talk, but this one really takes the cake. The disconnect is awesome. I strongly recommend that you start your own party, the Black Teabaggers perhaps? I’m sure you’ll go far with it.

January 6th, 2010 at 9:40 pmIt it truly astonishing, to thinking humans, how the Reichwhiners can Believe the opposite of that which is true. One is left to conclude that they never studied history, at all, much less realized the significance of any particular event in human history.

January 6th, 2010 at 9:57 pmDale Robertson and Jim Bowie know absolutely nothing about the Constitution.
It reflects the ideals of the Enlightenment, radical by 18th century standards, and still quite amazing today.
Jim Bowie is probably capable of reciting the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights by heart, but I would bet that he doesn’t begin to know the rest of the amendments, nor does he probably approve of many of them.
Kooks like Robertson and Bowie have been spoon-fed holy roller spin on the Constitution.
There are holy roller publishing houses that do their best to assign false contexts to the Constitution.

Bowie and his buddies repeat all manner of GOPshite that has been poured into their pea-brains by their corporate masters.
The heaviest thing about the teabaggers is their apparent intellectual obesity, sloppy, unhealthy and lacking in nutrition.
Lay off the FoxNews for a bit, little teabagger, and study in an accredited university about the origins of this nation and its legal instruments.
Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, Adams and Randolph were all deists, not born-again Christians as those clowns in holy roller circles have told you.
Thomas Paine, whom you guys love to quote, was most likely an atheist, a dangerous thing to admit in that era.

January 6th, 2010 at 10:15 pmAnd I use the word dicktard which means exactly what it sounds like it means. It is a compound word derived from dick meaning a foolish clown of a man and ‘tard being a corruption of retard as in mentally inferior or limied….

When they say, “America has been taken over,” they don’t mean by a Democrat. When they say “Communist…no, I mean Fascist… or Islamic… or Illuminatus,” they mean, in all their words, “We can’t say ‘Black man,’ but you know how much Black people hate ‘us,’ and so he hates ‘us,’ and so we hate him, and so he’s a communist fascist.”
Michael Steele would not be welcomed by the Baggots indeed. Even if he were not shallow, obviously hypocritical, and unctious, he continues to serve a party dedicated to fostering racism, a party that institutionalizes racism within its ranks, and this offshoot is the rebellious ugly cousins of that party, the group of “Republicans” who are so filled with racism that they would rather have a civil war than democracy.
He might as well have said, “I’ve said for a long time that I’m a self-hating Black man, and, if I weren’t head of the RNC, I’d be out there with the Baggots shouting about how Blacks are incapable of leading the nation.”

January 6th, 2010 at 10:21 pmI seriously doubt that our kilt-wearing butt flasher has studied Latin.
His use of the term “niger” is simply a pretext to flaunt his racism in a manner in which he deems humorous and provocative.
He is the typical teabagger racist.

Exactly what is “a original British dictionary?”
The British are so much smarter than our kilt-wearing butt flasher thinks, and any compilers of any dictionary would have studied Latin quite well, because so much of our language has terms with origins in Latin, despite our language’s strong Germanic foundation.

What’s all this folderol about “niger?” The Latin term for black? Yes, it means black. That’s all. There is no “ignorant” involved. “Niggardly” meant “sparing, cheap,” with sometimes an association of ignorance when applied to wits. However, one must be an ignoramus (I was so ashamed when Gretchen Carlsson quoted me on air, claiming she had to look up the meaning of the word) to confuse these terms, and one must be a simple racist to try to rehabilitate an obscenity.
I have only looked at comment threads at TP for a day now, and I must say one thing comes to mind. It’s old advice, but it’s good: DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS.
They get a special thrill in the bottoms of their stoma when they think they spend their days “setting liberals straight.” Ignore them. Let the fools feel foolish by the silence with which they are met. Respond to their lies and idiocies, and you will give them a sense of righteous mission and ensure that we have more and more of them.
Let them go by like a fart in a hurricane: noxious, but unimportant.

Nicely said. Bush, Cheney and several others are clearly guilty of war-crime violations, and should be held accountable for this. If we don’t hold them accountable –including prison time–what possible excuse do we have to expect accountability from anyone else?
I seem to recall the Chinese government and Mao Zedong referring to us as “paper tigers”. If we do not prosecute these criminals, we will be living up to this characterization, and invite more grief than imaginable.

Hi Kenneth.
January 6th, 2010 at 10:54 pmJim Bowie says:
“It is the Constitution that is inherently conservative, not a party.”
The U.S. Consitution is one of the most liberal documents ever written, perhaps only after the Declaration of Independence and the Communist Manifesto. If it were conservative for its time, then we would be ruled by a king.
.
Kenneth says:
Why does the Far-Far Left always bring up race? WHY?
Did you see this picture yet? The guy holding it is in charge of the “teaparty.org” website.
Frankly, I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of some other reason that the right wing doesn’t embrace Steele. Right after taking control of the RNC, they even tried to revoke his power to disburse campaign money. Nobody ever follows his lead, and now the teabaggers don’t want him at their events, even though Bachmann, Armey and a host of other GOP figures have been allowed and invited to speak?
So if you’ve got an alternate theory, please let’s hear it.
.
Jim Bowie says:
Kenneth, they never talk about the good blacks like Lloyd Marcus.
I’m sorry, did you just say “the good blacks?” Oh, do go on.

Interesting… would you support him in a primary run against say, Palin, Romney and Huckabee?

braveheart08 says:
If you look in a original British dictionary the word niger means ignorant
No. No, it does not. You’re just making that up. Or the racist bigot who told you that did. “Niger” is, was, and has always been only the name of a river and/or region in Africa, and that is all.
Go find one of these “British” dictionaries and see for yourself. Or try this one, which combines Webster’s 1913 and 1828 unabridged dictionaries, neither of which have any such term. I only get a hit going back to middle English, in which “niger” means “some kind of black stone with magical properties.” There are no other meanings, or they would have come up in one of those. If there was an informal meaning between middle and modern English, it would be a reference to blackness, not to ignorance.
Playing the “it’s not on the Internet” game isn’t ever going to work for you. It only amounts to waving a white flag of desperation at us.
Anyone who tried to bastardize the term and use it to apply to a meaning of “ignorant” are themselves racists and doing so for racist reasons. But it has never stuck to enough of a degree to make it into any dictionary. Never. No matter how much you KKK freaks would like it to, you have failed in this as in everything else you’ve ever tried.
the N-word (however you prefer to misspell it) has never referred to an ignorant person; rather, it is only used by them.

January 6th, 2010 at 11:02 pm“The good blacks”
It does rather beggar the imagination that anyone could be so viciously stupid as to use such a phrase — in or out of a KKK meeting — and imagine that it labels them as anything other than pathetic, swinish racists.
I still find myself trying to come up with a gentle way of informing people that the phrase, “Some of my best friends are black,” is like a big, pastel name-tag that says,
But this particular example is so singularly disgusting that I am at a loss to imagine what measure of verbal abuse and vituperation could possibly be heaped upon the animal spewing it that could even begin to approach the degree of unqualified contempt the person uttering it actually merits.
January 6th, 2010 at 11:03 pmOr Rochester. Now there was a good black. he always agreed with mr benny, and when he saw something scary, why he’d just bug his eyes out and say “lawsy mighty!”

Kenneth, get an education.
You really seem stupid and demented.
Words are powerful, but you can’t seem to use them to full effect.
Your grammatical mistakes and misspellings make you appear moronic and childish.
It’s not too late to clean up your act, and improve yourself substantially in the process.
William F. Buckley was a true conservative for whom I have a deep respect, even though I didn’t share so many of his views.
Unlike you, he continued to cultivate his mind throughout his life, and it was always a pleasure for me to read his observations and to hear televised interviews featuring him.
You have the typical “know-nothing” bias against learning and education, decrying good grammar and correct spelling as “elitist.”
You should be ashamed of yourself.
Don’t take pride in your ignorance, as so many in your political circle have done.
A good education is a “traditional” value.

January 6th, 2010 at 11:36 pmPete,
I’m fine with that. As I can tell, the human race already consists of two subspecies. Homo Moronicus and Homo Sapien. Homo Moronicus does and believes everything they are told without thinking. Believes in the hereafter and votes for morons like Bush and McCain.
Homo Sapien doesn’t do and believe everything they are told without seriously thinking things through for themselves. Believes in evolution and not some fairy tale nor do they vote for morons. There seems to be an 80: 20 split in favor of Homo Sapien from watching both the election results and the polls over the last year.

*Pro-business conservatives tried to block child labor laws. They were wrong.
*Conservatives fought against women’s right to vote. They were wrong.

In my case; that “uncle” was an aunt. The rest of the family hated her, for reasons that predated my birth and I never really understood, so I always kinda liked her. But? She did get kinda loud, and very blunt, after a few drinks!
Perhaps it was envy arising from our family’s usual reserved interactions? A casual observer never would have realized we were related without the physical resemblance.

Please excuse me for butting in, but I suspect Mr. Bowie is ok with the freedom to marry. He might be having a bit of a problem with the freedom of others to decline his invitation.

The Wikiality article is, indeed, a hoot. But I still prefer the unintentional self-parodies, that come from Conservapedia or our pet trolls, for a good belly laugh.
January 7th, 2010 at 12:13 ampete,
Okay drunk family member. You know what they say: alcohol = liquid truth. You say stuff when you’re hammered that you would never say (out loud) when sober.
For example: My uncle Brandon is fine and he’s actually pretty funny but when he gets wasted, he talks so much shit about everyone. My family doesn’t hate him when he’s sober but he’s kinda the black sheep when he’s drunk.
January 7th, 2010 at 12:14 amI seriously doubt that any of your money was spent making that film since it was made 60 years ago in 1947.

The NIV (New International Version) is published by Zondervan Bible Publishers, owned by Rupert Murdoch.
Well then it was a good pick of him to buy. From what I’ve seen, that one looks like it uses the best documentary scholarship and plainest, most neutral translation. But if somebody knows of a better version, I’m willing to hear about it.

bizarrobrain,
I don’t know what Phyllis did to her precious bundle but, it must have been awful. My guess is that she handed him off to a nanny until adolescence and then stepped in to really phuck things up. The poor kid never had a chance.

Excellent point. At that point in time, they didn’t have anything to be patriotic to. Actually it was simply a matter of tea smugglers committing vandalism against the British East India Company in response to the EIC slashing the tax rate on its tea to “price” the smugglers out of business. Which is to say, they weren’t doing it for any higher principle.
Of course, it was a politically useful event, and others later capitalized on it in service of some pretty great political principles. But at the time, it was merely a case of property destruction for economic reasons by criminals.
This is what the “teabaggers” are heirs to? The funniest thing I’ve heard about this whole teabagging business is when they scrapped plans to actually dump real tea in rivers after being informed that it was illegal to do so. Wimps.

#78 style aside (hyperbolic glurge), let’s take a look at this. Others have already pointed out how wrong he is about the Constitution; as for the rest, I think it pretty much translates as follows: change “there must be” to “Jesus is” and insert “Christian” in front of values. So transparent. I hardly think the use of the word choir was an accident, either.
#84 thanks jim bowie for showing how your hero obviously hasn’t clue one what he’s talking about as he completely contradicts his “conservative Constitution” statement here. Conseratives are the status quo, it’s the progressives who challenge it.
#102 they’re doing way more than that. They’re rewriting history and putting words in the Founders’ mouths as “proof” that their intent was to found a Christian nation. http://www.positiveatheism.org/writ/founding.htm and http://www.theocracywatch.org/rr_economics.htm

#186 Well, you’re certainly entitled to that opinion. Personally, I think all the insults and name-calling I see here only stoops to their level and justifies their claims that WE are the haters who can’t work up an intelligent comeback…
#190 …And this is why they think we’re all elitists. Maybe you’re not aware of it, but your tone comes off as totally pompous, condescending and arrogant. I’ve seen some spelling and grammatical errors on our side, too, as well as people whose formal education may be lacking (which has nothing to do with inate intelligence). Stop lumping everybody into black and white categorizations. After all, that’s what ignorant people do.
And both of you? Just stop feeding them. Or is it your own egos you have to feed?
I’ve seen far more offensive trolls on other sites and they don’t get voted down or even completely censored unless they’re guilty of something truly egregious. Yet here, their most innocuous stuff gets voted down to the point of having to click to read it; so, to the membership–are you really THAT easily offended? Most of the taunts back are more of an annoying waste of monitor real estate than the original troll posts! And you accuse them of posting things with no substance?
#224 More wrong assumptions. I’m liberal, I think and decide for myself. I believe in evolution. But I also believe in spirituality. That is my choice. Yes, I know many people never see beyond the religion they were raised in to make a choice, but some do. Have a little more respect. BTW, science isn’t totally infallible, either. Look at all the scientific beliefs of the past that we laugh at today. But they were all accepted as fact once, in their time. I find that responding to trolls often spurs me to do research, assemble logical arguments, and think of insights that I might not have come up with if we were just having an echo chamber where everybody agreed. Even the stupidest, most insulting troll can tee up a shot for his betters.
.
PinUrT says:
I’ve seen far more offensive trolls on other sites and they don’t get voted down or even completely censored unless they’re guilty of something truly egregious.
On most other sites, a voting system could eliminate a post entirely, rather than just hiding it in the javascript. Or even lead to automatic banning. This isn’t so bad. TP installed it to aid substantive readability. Before the vote system, trolls would routinely push threads past 700 comments because they were enjoying the attention.
I have noticed that people with reputations as trolls end up getting vote-downs pretty much no matter what they say. I try to avoid doing that myself, and if they happen to say something that makes a rational contribution (which does occasionally happen), I highlight the fact.

I don’t think anybody here ever claimed that science has a working Total Theory of Everything. I don’t think anybody who understands science ever made such a claim either.
The fact that science is willing to admit its errors and improve itself is a strength, not a show of weakness.

I just think constructive criticism might have more of a chance of getting through to someone and making them consider things than insults, I guess.
ElBruce says:
Sorry, I guess there is a misunderstanding or different interpretation of terminology here. I define feeding trolls as responding with the sort of comments that are more likely to hijack a discussion than contribute to it. Responding with something that does advance the topic is another matter.
ElBruce says:
That was pretty much what I meant by “completely censored”, and I thought you were missing my entire point until the second paragraph. Yes, that was my complaint, that anything said was being voted down, just because the person’s a known troll.
ElBruce says:
I never claimed that anyone specifically claimed those things. :) I just seem to see a lot of posts on the blogs, generally, where people do act like they think science has the ultimate answer, always, when refuting the the most close-minded religious types. In other words, they seem just as adamant, just as certain, as their opponents and of course neither side convinces the other of anything. And honestly? I think history shows that it may take as long as centuries before science might admit to a particular mistake. Look how ostracized many discoverers of new concepts were in their own lifetimes, and it was later generations which exonerated them. So, perhaps just a wee lil bit o’ weakness in there.

Too true, shoeless, but allow me to perservere. While British is not a language, English is. The Oxford English Dictionary defines both ‘niger’ and the other ‘n’ word and does so unambivalently. In neither case does it define the word as meaning ignorant.
Niger is simply an equivalent to “neger” or “negro”. The other n word is classed as a substantive, as an alteration of neger; the first definition (1.a) is “a negro”, and states that the word is a colloquialism and usually contemptuous. Def. 1.b is “loosely or incorrectly applied to members of other dark skinned races. Def. 2.a is “the black caterpillar of the turnip saw-fly”, and 2.b refers to another larval form and 2.c to a marine animal of some sort. Def 3 refers to several types of steam engine, then 4 gets into soapmaking. Def 5 is the combinatorial form, usually perjorative, etc and so on. Nowhere is either word defined as being an equivalent to “ignorant”.
Braveheart is just a racist twerp, and ignorant to boot. He is apparently unaware that all of those words stem, linguistically, from the Latin word for black, which is, of course, niger. It was applied to a river and two nations in Africa, the Niger River, which runs through both Niger and Nigeria, and in it’s various other forms, ie “negro”, etc, to Africans. Of course, the Niger is probably not called the Niger by the various tribes that live on it or near it, and Niger and Nigeria are political areas which were defined by Europeans and may not last all that much longer, now that the colonialists are gone; a couple of centuries from now it may all be dust.

Government is way out of control and they’re going to have to do more than just apologize and we absolutely know B.S. when we hear it!
