President Obama held a candid, face-to-face conversation with House Republicans today at their annual retreat in Baltimore. After Obama gave his remarks, he had to answer tough questions from Republican lawmakers about health care, the budget, taxes, and other issues. Although the riveting exchange lasted over an hour, both CNN and MSNBC aired the entire event.
However, at 1:11 p.m. ET — when there was still 20 minutes left to go — Fox News decided to cut away and begin its commentary. Anchor Trace Gallagher’s immediate reaction was that Obama was being too “combative” and “lecturing” — like he was at his State of the Union address. Correspondent Bret Baier agreed, saying there was “a little bit of that,” but conceded that there was a “decent…give-and-take on the specifics.” Watch it:
Unsurprisingly, Fox is echoing a Republican talking point. Several Republicans complained that Obama was lecturing them in his State of the Union speech:
– “I felt like he was admonishing Congress and certainly lecturing Republicans, accusing us of being an obstructionist party, when what it is we’re about is trying to focus on the issue, which is control the spending and let’s go about creating an environment for jobs.” — House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA)
– “The address was ‘more of a lecture, I thought, in tone,’ [Cornyn] said, but Obama ‘gives a great speech.’” — Rep. John Cornyn (R-TX)
– “In a word, ‘lecture’ [is what I thought of Obama's State of the Union speech]. I think there was quite a bit of lecturing, not leading in that, as opposed to Governor McDonnell’s follow-up comments, quite inspiring his connection with the people. He absolutely gets it, he understands government’s appropriate role.” — Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, 1/27/10, Fox News
Not only did Fox cut away from the Obama-GOP exchange, but the network then brought on Rep. Peter King (R-NY) — who was still in New York “because of the whole 9/11 controversy with the trials” — about 10 minutes later to start commenting on Obama’s performance. A look at what was happening on all the networks at that time:

Is anyone surprised?

They don’t like the President, so why stick with displaying his conference? They can show whatever they want whenever they want.
I just won’t see what they show as being beneficial to their cause except to cater to their fan base. The average watcher, if they are not informed on the slant of the network, will just switch over to another network.

January 29th, 2010 at 4:47 pmFux Nutwork can cut away from Obama-GOP conversation all they want. But, the fact remains is that Obama was the parent and the GOP were bratty children that were spanked by the parent today. And here is one example question from a GOP nimrod lawmaker.
TPM:
Obama Takes Down Hensarling At GOP Retreat
At today’s Q&A between President Obama and House GOP-ers, Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) asked the president a long question about the budget and the deficit.
Hensarling claimed that Obama had increased the national deficit by the same rate per month as Republicans had per year.

Lecturing? This only begs the question: since there were more of them in the room, why didn’t they lecture the President? Could it be that they can’t since they don’t have the facts to lecture?
Republicans: “We didn’t think he’d actually take de-bait so’s we wuz surprised that he actually won de-bate. Too bad we caan’t jes say he wuz bein’ an uppity-ni99er. How’s ’bout we jes say he wuz lecturing? “

they’ve spent WAY too much money, tripling down on that same debt you progressives LOVE to beat up Bush over, (never mind that Bush had a Dem run Congress the last two years, where the MAJORITY of his deficits grew).
I know you’re b**ching about the Bush deficits, but ill advised economic policies and tax cuts prolonged the first Bush recession while increasing deficits. Meanwhile the Obama spending produced almost 6% gdp growth last quarter despite Bush’s budget for most of the year.
drhunt says:
Supply-side! Get used to it…there’s, no doubt, more to come!
So you’re saying we should get used to more recessions brought about by failed GOP economic policies? LOL! We’ll see khunt!

Lets hope Obama continues to berate them and the Dems force a couple filibusters. By the time the elections are held in November, the Republican brand will be so tarnished that even their own regular party members will not vote. Fox News with its attacks on Obama and the Dems will be pissing in the wind.

“President Bush publicly called for GSE reform 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress acted.”
Of course, this would be more than a little bit of closing the barn door after the horse had already left, since the first sub-prime lenders went bell-up in the spring of 2006, and by February 2007 (a mere month after Democrats took over control of the Congress) the crisis was already starting to effect the larger economy.

Trickle down theory does not work, yet some people persist in peddling it. The theory died when Alan Greenspan, appointed by Reagan and chief proponent of trickle down, admitted in his testimony before Congress that his theories are flawed and that included deregulation of the banking industry. Why anyone still clings to this discredited theory is beyond comprehension. It has been rejected by the public, Congress and it’s major proponent.

Arrow’s paradox pretty much demonstrates that we’ve no hope of ever seeing a real “independent” party here. Just as Perot handed the presidency to Clinton, Nader handed it to Bush. (Something like 27,000 Nader votes in Florida; if even less than 10% of these voted for Gore, while the other 90+% stayed home puling and whining, Gore wins the WH.)
Until and unless the vote system in this country is shifted from the present “all or nothing” method, we will always, only be a two-party system.

the purpose of a stimulus is to put people to work…to buy stuff and services on behalf of the government because private consumption is down–people can’t or won’t spend in a recession.
very succinctly stated..
simple enough even a GOP can understand it..
That’s one of the purposes of Govt. – it’s also the purpose of the FED… the ‘lender of last resort’ they call it..
if no one else will lend… the FED promises they will.. that’s one of the main reasons for it’s creation.. (*not that I don’t have plenty of problems with the FED… but it does have it’s uses..) When everyone is tight fisted with money – the FED and the GOVT. has to step in and get things flowing again.. it’s about the only way..
or you could just ‘wait it out’… always such a brilliant move.. try that with problems in your life.. – just wait for the problem to go away.. works real well. (snark)

January 29th, 2010 at 6:10 pmdrhunt: “…they’ve spent WAY too much money, tripling down on that same debt you progressives LOVE to beat up Bush over”
When Bush took over in 2001, the national debt was about $7 trillion. When Obama took over in 2009, the national debt was over $12 trillion. Now, it’s about $13 trillion. Those are the numbers. They are not opinions or assertions.
And Supply Side? How many times do you have to watch supply-siders run the economy into the ground before you change your religion? In 1980, before the onset of supply-side thinking, we were the world’s largest creditor nation. Today, after 30 years of supply-side thinking, we are the world’s largest debtor nation. Supply side is a political scam. It is the opposite of Adam Smith. Adam Smith felt labor, mixed with natural resources, equals wealth. Supply side says, if you build it, they will buy it. It’s basically absurd.

January 29th, 2010 at 6:14 pmSo you presume that the elections in Virginia, new Jersey and Massachusetts indicated a national mood reflective of the Obama administration… is that a correct reading of this statement?
If so, then why can we not read the same meaning in the NY-23 election, which handed a longtime Republican seat to a Democrat?
(I suspect we’ve been over this before, and you will try to explain how local issues and circumstances specific to that one race affected its outcome, yet you will pretend that this same argument does not apply to the races you cherry-picked.)
January 29th, 2010 at 6:15 pmdrhunt, once again: What is your personal issue with President Obama? Since you claim that liberals are all overly emotional while you are logical, you must certainly have some actual reason for your petty behaviour. #165-”Hope and Change” was the mantra in 2008. For decades, the American public has voted for their elected officials entrusting them to honor their oath of office. Rarely in my lifetime has the electorate researched their elected officials with much scrutiny. THAT’S how we ended up with Obama. Public ignorance.
Really. You are inferring the public voted for Obama on a whim. Just look at the competition-McCain peddling the same old Republican crapola that brought us to near financial ruin and the Wassila Hillbilly. And you think the public did not scrutinize the candidates?
January 29th, 2010 at 6:18 pmI asked you a question. It would be nice to get an answer instead of more deflection on your part.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:19 pmHee hee, the President gave the Repiggies the old “one-two punch,” after they thought they’d make a fool of him in their conference.
Nicely done, Mr President.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:19 pm163. pags2 says:
In point of irrefutible mathemtical fact(s), that won’t help. “Direct democracy” only solves the problem of insulating the legislative and executive branches of government from the most grotesque stupidities of the mob of humanity; so eliminating those insulations does not work to make things better over all. It only serves to place mob action in direct control of political power.
Point of historical fact here: the Founding Fathers were excrutiatingly familiar with the history of ancient Greece, and the effects that direct democracy had on the fortunes of Athens. It is not an accident that they coded the Constitution in such a way as to bring about a Representative Democracy, also known as a “Democratic Republic.” It was because they thought it fairly obvious that the “great mob” (my phrase) of democracy was a pack of idiots who’d govern themselves into a fascist totalitarianism unless there was some substantive prophilactic separating the people from the actual reins of power.
Now, maybe the FF’s were wrong, or at least partially wrong; certainly they had no ideas of the issues related to the aforementioned “Arrow’s Paradox.” Regardless, the electoral college system is not (necessarily) the problem, and eliminating it is not (necessarily) the answer. The problem is that, so long as wins and losses are “all or nothing” affairs, then there can be no small victories. Yet small victories are the only ways that we can genuinely influence our political system.
I’m not a big fan of the electoral college either, but consider this: The World Series is won by that team that wins the most games, not the one that scores the most points in the Series. If you are against the electoral college, then you must also oppose this method of determining the Series. Is the World Series intrinsically unfair? Just because a team has one bad game, and loses by some shocking number of points IN THAT ONE GAME, does that “prove” they were the lesser of the two teams? Or is it the ability to keep coming back and win the most games, even if only by an eyelash, that shows who the worthier team really is?
The analogy between electoral vote totals and games won, on the one hand, and total points scored and total popular votes on the other hand, seems pretty close. I first encountered this “World Series” argument in an online Scientific American article, the link to which I have long since lost (sorry).
January 29th, 2010 at 6:20 pmFirst, BO is no centrist…if you think so, then that means you’re probably a Marxist.
Heh.
Okay, if you think he’s a not a centrist then you’re letting the tea bags go to your head…
‘balls’ in your court.
Heh.

drhunt says:
if you think so, then that means you’re probably a Marxist.
A marxist proposing “supply side options” and saying “work with me”? LOL! Who says republicans don’t have a sense of humor? LOL!
drhunt says:
Second, senators and congresspeople are elected by their constituents to represent them.
Polls show those constituents disagree with them. Now what? ;)
drhunt says:
IF the constituents don’t like certain legislation or the direction they think the Federal government is headed, they show up at town halls, they write and email their elected officials how they feel.
And Republicans ignore them because they think their Corporate sponsors can spend unlimited money in the election to “buy” their seat back! ;)
drhunt says:
Do you NOT understand this principle of “For the People, By the People”?
LOL! Ironic coming from someone that says Democracy is wrong! LOL!
drhunt says:
The elected officials then take that message back to Washington and vote accordingly.
According to who has bought them – at least that’s the GOP way! ;)
drhunt says:
You call it obstructionism, and so does BO. I call it democracy. So did Massachusetts…BIG TIME!
LOL! You don’t know nor believe in democracy as your rant above shows… ZZzzz…
Mass was a protest against Obama not standing up to you radicals!
This proved Obama got the message.
you, not so much khunt! ;)
January 29th, 2010 at 6:21 pmHey Dr. Hunt, Scott Roeder was convicted today for killing another fellow Doctor by the name of George Tiller. Any chance of you taking his job over?
January 29th, 2010 at 6:21 pmWhoa. I asked why you thought Obama was elected President at this time and you go into some talking point barf that says he wasn’t elected by people who believed his message? The whole Do you NOT understand this principle of “For the People, By the People”? rant says what? Our president was elected by parameciums, toads and jellyfish?
Suck it up, wanker, the people did speak, they did vote and Obama is President. Deny it and you are the obstructionist.

January 29th, 2010 at 6:22 pmand drhunt .. do you not understand that the people are largely fools who tend to think britney spears is ‘good music’ -
the majority is almost always wrong.. hence Bush being elected twice. You combine an ignorant society with malicious propaganda networks and conservatives spewing garbage rhetoric like ‘death panels’ and waving pictures of Dachau .. in reference to health care reform..
I’m optimistic… we progressives are.. things just have to get really bad before the ignorant public wakes up and makes the right choice… if we have a set back in november – it’s just a matter of the american people’s short memory.. if we end up with Republican rule… the economy will be tanked again – the wealthy 1% will take another huge leap forward and the rest of America will eat their dust – again.
America doesn’t learn it’s lesson… but I’m always hopeful.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:23 pmdrhunt also claims Brown won in a landslide and Obama did not, despite Obama winning by a higher percentage of votes over his opponent.
he also ignores the fact that Ted Kennedy and John Kerry both had higher percentages and totals than Mr. Brown… oh, I wonder why?
January 29th, 2010 at 6:24 pmThe GOP sure whines about President Obama’s personality and personal traits a lot as opposed to actual policy. Given how many of their stances they reverse when the President suggests using them makes a pretty strong argument that the GOP is more about undermining the President than governing.
I think wanting to know why they have such emotional responses to non-emotional issues is a perfectly valid question.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:24 pmAh 6% gdp growth and an amazing economic turnaround.
so kkkhunt, if Obama caused the stock market to crash, why was the big decline under Bush and why has both the stock market and gdp growth gone “up” under Obama again?
LOL! kkkhunt those tinfoil hat conspiracy theories of yours are a hoot! LOL!
6% gdp growth, I guess socialism is good for the economy? ;)
January 29th, 2010 at 6:24 pmWhen you’re as far to the right as drhuint has shown himself to be, everything looks “leftist”.
Fact is, when a Democratic President has disappointed the liberal wing of his party, it’s because he’s too far to the center for their liking.
Thus he’s a centrist.
Extreme right-wingers like drhunt may wish they could dismiss those on the left as irrelevant, but they’re not. They define the margins of the political spectrum, and in between the two extremes lies the center, which is where the President resides.
I think wingnuts like drhunt really believe that they define the center. Since the GOP has jettisoned almost every moderate they had, they think those people are now on the left. They’re not. But try getting drhunt to understand that.

Comparing the electoral process to the World Series is not a valid comparison. Every game in the series is determined by which team has the most runs. One game is a more legitimate comparison to the electoral process. We do not get several chances in the same election cycle to vote for presidents. The electoral college distorts the democratic principle of the candidate with the most votes wins.

January 29th, 2010 at 6:29 pmNo, Gary, to my knowledge drhunt has been very coy about his screen name, chiding those of us who first assumed he was identifying himself as a doctor.

January 29th, 2010 at 6:31 pm“I think we have seen and hear enough of Obama on television. Does a day go by that we don’t see his mug on TV?”
1) He’s the President of this country. We saw the same shit when Bush and Clinton were in office.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:31 pm2) If we have to put up with Beck (actually just Fox in general)…you have to put up with President being on TV. I know every time he has a speech it interrupts your Palin/Beck fap session.
When I saw him at the 2004 DNC I knew he would be the frontrunner come 2008.
Wow. Good eye!
Who you got for the R’s in 2012?
Palin?
(snicker)
January 29th, 2010 at 6:31 pmUmm… he’s the President of the United States. Most people expect to see the President on TV fairly regularly.

you’re a retard – he’s always had an all of the above approach. – and he’s still pushing for cap and trade because climate change is real… he said it today – and he says it every time
He didn’t change his position.. and he definitely didn’t steal it from palin’s facebook page. for god’s sake wake up…
I think we should have a few more nuclear plants.. but we shouldn’t go gung ho with it – besides.. the initial cost for Nuclear power is the problem.. the up front cost is higher than all the other options. And no one has ever said we should just stop drilling oil — obviously we can’t kick the habit that easy..
also.. Obama – contrary to GOP goobers – actually considers all good ideas – I know this might seem foreign to you.. but he considers any good advice from anyone – even if it was Caribou Barbie — although he didn’t come up with the idea of nuclear power or oil drilling from that idiot… they are all options on the table – and he looks at all our possibilities.
It’s called being intelligent.. it’s called valuing other people’s input and different ideas. It’s what adults do – especially one’s whose top concern is the well being of the country.. not political points.

January 29th, 2010 at 6:47 pmI was just visiting MMFA. We all know that beck is a sick, whatever the fck he is. I really think he is dangerous to the American public, his family, his coworkers, and himself.
He is like a rabid dog, he needs some serious help, or his family should do whats humane and put him down.
drhunt.. I don’t find you a credible source for discerning ’smart people’.
actually… if you tell me someone is intelligent – I feel inclined to believe they are manipulative lying dipshits… hence your admiration for them.
You’re voicing your objections towards Ivy leaguers – which is a typical conservative view… fear of education.. they think all that ‘knowledge’ just holds ya back… not like the innocent sarah palin– pure as the driven snow she is (gag) her mind is untouched by such plaguing qualities like ‘information’.. her mind is like the arizona wasteland she lives in – or the pathetic little town she governed.
the gop doesn’t trust intelligence.. it scares them – part of why red states don’t fund it. –
–
January 29th, 2010 at 6:47 pmwe don’t need no education
You tried pulling that crap with me a couple of days ago when you could not back up your claims. I guess that means according to you, we “won the debate” since you are having to resort to namecalling. Or is that stance of yours dependent on who does what, like your other positions are?
January 29th, 2010 at 6:47 pmI really doubt the President’s approval rating will drop thirty points in a matter of days.
– or were you speaking Obama’s all time low?
because I’m pretty sure that the all-time low approval rating for any President is still held by the last occupant of the job.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:48 pmJon Stewart made the most succinct political comment of the year: “Obama could make it rain cookies and GOP headlines would be, WHERES THE MILK”.

I think we have seen and hear enough of Obama on television. Does a day go by that we don’t see his mug on TV?
Isn’t it great to have a president actually doing his job and not hiding behind brush and horses that do not like him? And an intelligent president who will understand PDA’s and know what to do if danger approaches.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:49 pmThe rampant ‘ignore’ coming my way from the good Dr. totally means that Morgan Fairchild is my wife (whom I’ve seen naked, YES!) right?
Right?
January 29th, 2010 at 6:49 pmPoor kkkhunt thinks “market manipulation” is “smart”! Talk about a retard!
January 29th, 2010 at 6:50 pm259. drhunt says:
No, it is because you have once again categorically demonstrated yourself to be absolutely incapable of any activity which might, by even the most reckless stretch of the imagination, ever be mistaken for intelligence or integrity, much less any combination of the two. Yet both are required on your part — in at least some infinitessimal measure — in order for any person to engage you in a reasoned discussion.
Since you repeatedly demonstrate yourself to be incapable of reason, the only thing left is abuse. And it must be confessed, that there is some amusement to be found in abusing someone as grotesquely obtuse as yourself. Although, one might also observe that it is arguably not “abuse” if people do nothing more egregious than merely observe the obvious facts regarding your inability to display anything like either intelligence or integrity. After all, this latter amounts to nothing more than telling the truth in public.
That you would find such an experience uncomfortable is scarcely surprising.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:50 pmNo, it actually makes sense for a wingnut. They really think that if someone has more money than they do, that means they’re smarter. It’s a fairly simplistic way to look at the world, but let’s face it, nuance gives them headaches.

January 29th, 2010 at 6:54 pmlux,
Thanks. It’s a very basic way of putting it but that’s essentially what I got from everything I read and I spent about two months reading up on everything I could find that was related to the stimulus.
Essentially the stimulus is mostly a kick-start for the economy but there is some very good infrastructure related stuff in there.
And it’s hard to ration with a group that wants to get rid of social programs and even suspend Congress…when they can’t get their way.

January 29th, 2010 at 6:55 pmanyway, drhunt… you can pick anything as the problem – but people having the best education money can buy isn’t a legitimate reason to distrust them. Just the opposite, an alaskan saying they can see russia from their window.. or not being able to name a single magazine or newspaper they read… and then referring to it as a ‘gotcha’ question, now that’s a reason to distrust someone.
but anyway..I think I’ve been on TP too long today..

Putting a title on an outline and placing a Kinko’s order is not the same as having a plan, Mr. Pence. Neither is doing exactly the same things R’s have already done to death for 50 yrs.
January 29th, 2010 at 7:09 pmThe worst part about it is not that drhunt resorts to namecalling pretty frequently but that it is the same insults. Between that and repeating discredited, unproven talking points, it is sort of like a record that skips.
Between that and all the memory lapses I am just so concerned that this might mean there is something wrong with them medically. Maybe we should just try to be more charitable towards them.

UC-Davis is part of the socialist state-run system of the Peoples State of California. It is not in the same category as the more free-market Harvard or Stanford. They have TEACHERS (those who can’t) there with TENURE. Thus, how can we believe you?
Did your social-science research include EVERYONE who has ever attended Harvard? Or just the crowd you hang around with (biased sampling)?
According to the Princeton survey (not state-run), the top schools for sociology are Berkeley, Chicago (Obama taught Law there), Columbia, and my alma mater. I had 10 sociology, 8 history, and 5 poly-sci. My school was also top ten in history and poly-sci.
January 29th, 2010 at 7:26 pmAnd everybody knows it’s not what you learn at Harvard it’s who you meet and what it says on your resume. If you believe your UC MBA looks as good as a Harvard MBA on a resume you’re dumber than I thought.

Too bad your attendance — you can’t even go so far as to assert a degree? — at UCD did not include any exposure to something like a logic or critical thinking class. If your expertise is Bio Sciences, then you cannot profess knowledge on economics, history, political science, and sociology. I know UC-Davis is good. I have lived in California the last eight years and five before that.
Again, your study of Harvard’s decline—–what was the sampling? Was it weighted? Do you know the margin of error? Or did you just talk to the group you hang around with?
The college surveys include not only an overall ranking (HARVARD #1), but also a ranking of their departments. That is how I was able to make my claim of mine being #4 in sociology and top ten in history and poly-sci.
January 29th, 2010 at 7:47 pmYou don’t go to Davis if you want an economics degree…engineering and bio sci is that school’s strength.

Even someone as categorically incapable of thinking as yourself ought to be able to figure out something as trivially simple and irrefutably obvious as that.
And yet, some how, it just flies right over your head …

220. pags2 says:
Comparing the electoral process to the World Series is not a valid comparison. Every game in the series is determined by which team has the most runs.
Every State is determined by who has the most votes. So the analogy is:
State is to game
as
vote is to point
The difference is that almost every state is a winner take all for the electors. This treats the votes of the losing candidate as if they don’t exist. That would include states where the race is real close. The electoral college distorts the election when Bush wins but loses the popular vote.
It still is one election rather than several different elections. The World Series gives each team 7 chances but an election has only one chance. If there were multiple elections with votes for the president during the same election cycle then the analogy to the World Series would be applicable. But we don’t have a run off election on the federal level because there are only two parties. Actually, we should return to the electoral system as it was initially devised. There would be no VP election tied to a candidate. The top vote getter was president and the second highest became the VP which in many cases was the candidate from the other party. This system would force the Republicans to participate in the legislative process. For example, McCain would have been the VP which position really has no power but becomes a part of the administration and thereby has a stake in how the country is run. If the Republicans choose to be the party of no, then McCain would be the top political target and his influence would be diminished since he cannot articulate the Republican plans. This in turn would affect the next elections.

The overall standing of UCD’s CoLA is really not a matter with which I’m concerned. The issue is that, if you were possessed of even the possibility of intelligence, neither would you be. Quite a few people get into the Ivies based upon their money and their family; more than a few extraordinarily smart people go to UCD.
But the smart ones don’t go around waving their pedigree like they were in a schoolyard, unzipping their pants to compare genital sizes the way you do. Why don’t you ever THINK instead of spewing infantile nonsense? Oh, because thinking obviously undermines your pathetic ideology.
You made a claim, a claim that you cannot possibly support. You could have told the truth instead, but it sounds much weaker to mention that all you know about the subject is what some few people you’ve talked to have said about the subject. And now, in an even more pathetic demonstration of your absolute lack of even the most elementary thinking skills imaginable, you defend your claim by an appeal to an op-ed in USNews? About grade inflation?
And you actually imagine there is any one in the world so pathetically stupid that they haven’t already heard this? Or that there is anyone in the world, who is even casually related to higher ed, that is so pathetically stupid that they don’t know that grade inflation is a problem EVERYWHERE?
I realize that you’ve got the cognitive abilities of a “challenged” potted plant, so just to try and help you out here, “everywhere” includes UCD. These silly stories you point to aren’t saying anything that is actually news, at least not to people who aren’t morons. It isn’t a problem at Harvard, it is a problem everywhere.

January 29th, 2010 at 8:13 pmdrhunt,
From your USAToday EDITORIAL:
“Fewer than 20% of ALL college students receive grades below a B-minus, according to a study released this week by the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.”
That’s ALL college students. Yes I agree there is a great deal of grade inflation in the US today. (I was dean’s list 39 years ago). But that does not mean that Harvard is turning out dumber students. Did you ever have a “Logic” course? And I take it that your Harvard study included 3 who ran in the same circles as you.
Is it true you are the love interest of Christina Yang?
January 29th, 2010 at 8:14 pmIt’s no overstatement to say that this showdown could change the course of Obama’s presidency. This is something that has never been done and Obama will get plenty of credit from Americans for that, not to mention the excellent defense he offered of his agenda in the face of tough GOP criticism.

Notice also the correct terminology for UC Davis. In all my years I’ve never heard anyone call it UC@Davis.
Make no mistake, it’s a decent school with a well-respected enology department, but skimming through drhunt’s blather it almost sounded as though he was claiming it superior to Harvard.
Interesting, too, that he thinks Berkeley is sliding toward liberalism. Berkeley? Really? That’s pretty funny.

He did really well.” Barack Obama, for an hour and a half, was able to refute every single Republican talking point used against him on the major issues of the day. In essence, it was almost like a debate where he was front and center for the majority of it. … One Republican said to me, off the record, behind closed doors: “It was a mistake that we allowed the cameras to roll like that. We should not have done that.”

As I noted (and, as you would have noted, were you capable of reading at even a 3rd grade level) the issue of grade inflation is across the board. (That’s another phrase for “everywhere.” Try giving that one a moment to sink in, so that you might have a chance of actually understanding what it means.)

FOX NEWS: Just like the stuff that comes out of the back end of a chicken, that’s not for breakfast.
January 30th, 2010 at 2:40 amThere is another reason Fox News cut away. Obama took a swipe at MSM when Obama asked the GOP to “show me the math” on their proposals. With that simple statement he nailed MSM for neglecting to do their job and hold the GOP accountable on their proposals. Everybody in that room understood that the math stunk to high heaven on the GOP proposals. So, it seems, did Fox News so they cut away rather than absorb more punishment. Indeed, show me the math as well.
January 30th, 2010 at 3:53 amThe other choice was McCain who finished 496th out of 499 at Navy and only got in because his father and grandfather were admirals.

January 30th, 2010 at 3:54 amIs English your second language? Held is simply past tense for hold. The applicable definition of hold is “to assemble for and carry on the activity of “. January 30th, 2010 at 4:11 amShould read “to assemble for and carry on the activity of [held a conversation]“ in 429. HTML omitted the last part when I put them in brackets instead of braces.
January 30th, 2010 at 4:17 am#407’s “Russert:” was quoting Luke Russert, Tim’s son, so pay attention. You obviously weren’t paying attention either when Obama admonished the GOP to “show me the math”. It seems to me that it way Ryan who wanted no part of Obama and not the other way around.

January 30th, 2010 at 9:04 amWe report manipulations, spins and lies. You watch Fox with your prejudices and decide if we fed them well enough.
We talk over intelligence, thoughtful responses. You decide if Obama still needs a teleprompter, since we told you he did, when we don’t broadcast his intelligent remarks, so you can see we were lying to you about that too.
I have my disagreements with our president because he is a Clinton “free trade” goofball, but I am glad we have a leader that demonstrates some level of education, unlike his predecessor or the morons that corportists are still trying to shove down our throsts via the Republican party.
January 30th, 2010 at 9:42 amSarah Palin would do well to attend a “lecture” or two. A 5th grade history or geography class would be a good start. Four colleges that no one has heard of in 4 years, and I would love to know how many lectures she actually attended.

January 30th, 2010 at 11:20 amRepublicans got ROLLED yesterday! Made me pretty happy. Funny how a week ago, people thought the Democrats were screwed. What a difference a week makes:
-Newest members of Supreme Court show their true allegiance, to the corporations (Republican agendas), NOT the American people
-ACORN slanderer “pimp” gets busted for a Watergate opeation
-Obama has a great, inspiring State of the Union speech
-Obama steam rolls Republicans at their own retreat
Another thing….what’s the big deal about teleprompters? Bush never did a speech without one. In fact, Bush refused to answer “2-part questions” during his press conferences, as he rarely held a press conference. I recall the 2004 debates where Bush had that wierd backpack thing, where some thought he also had an earpiece, with someone telling him what to say.
Not using a teleprompter would be like telling someone in congress not to use a computer, or Powerpoint. Before the era of teleprompters, presidents would write their speeches on “paper”! In fact many presidents speeches were virtually memorized, or ad-libbed on the fly. Anyone who has taken a 100-level Communications (speech) class would know this, or a 7th grade speech class for that matter.
Now Obama is a “lecturer”.? That must truly make George W. Bush a monkey. Of course he is a lecturer! He is the freakin’ President of the United States! Its his JOB to lecture people on what is happening in our country! Dems should use this “lecture” commentary to their advantage.
JFK, Abe Lincoln, FDR, George Washington, etc, were also great “lecturers”. They also happened to be great presidents. Even Ronald Reagan was called “the great communicator”. So, by calling Barack Obama a good “lecturer”, can it then be said they are calling him a “good president”? Not their intention, but it is what they are saying.
Also recall “W” couldn’t even speak in complete sentances. Nice to have a president who actually knows what he is talking about, and can not only defend himself in a tough environment, but also make everyone else in the room look like a bunch of idiots in the process!

For another Barney Frank who was voted most intelligent member of the house WHILE Newt was still speaker by the house staffers. Newt would be lucky to break the top twenty

Apparntly you think just saying something magically makes it true. Sorry. Doesnt work that way and wishing wont make it so.
January 30th, 2010 at 11:51 amHey, doc?
Sarah Poopsky was NOT acquitted in Troopergate. The committee found that she had abused the power of her office:
Troopergate Report: Palin “Unlawfully Abused Her Authority”
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain’s Republican ticket.
Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report to a bipartisan panel that looked into the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain.
I guess you don’t read, do you…? There is a difference between “acquitted” and “no charges were filed.”

January 30th, 2010 at 12:58 pmThat is an outright lie, you never back-up anything with credible sources from the reality based universe.
You confuse debate with that bullshit on Fox, where the one that wins the debate is the one that yells the loudest and longest.

Instead we have seen victimhood, evasion, and attempts to redirect. What does that seem to indicate about the doc conmittment to their “facts”? Whether or not he SHOULD have been fired is not the issue at hand, we are discussing HOW he was fired and whether it was legal or not.
If he SHOULD have been fired then he SHOULD have been fired legally without ILLEGAL influence and pressure from Palin’s office. There are reasons we have these rules, and they are good ones.
It appears that Palin broke those rules, at least according to the Legislature.

Our pathetic little troll is all hat and no horse.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:14 pmFox “news”.
Right-wing PROPAGANDA and non-stop LIES.
“Our viewers BELIEVE it’s ‘news’”.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:19 pmYou don’t do shit but waste time and look silly but again if you wanna image stuff have at it
January 30th, 2010 at 1:20 pm“common sense thinking” is as stupid an expression as “real american”. Utterly meaningless and idiotically simplistic at best.

I finally agree, you certainly are analagous to something that comes out of a rectum.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:22 pmHave you ever actually been to Alaska? See I have….
January 30th, 2010 at 1:24 pmFox “news” CONTINUES the TREASON of Bush and Cheney.
REAL Americans KNOW this.
Not “drhunt”, of course…
January 30th, 2010 at 1:27 pmFuk’d News ratings are directly tied to Obama’s performance as president.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:29 pmThat is truly Fuk’d!!!!
drhunt says:
#520 Reggie-if God were to give cyberspace an enema…it’s debatable where he would place the nozzle…the DailyKos, here or MoveOn.org.
Actually, cyber or not, that would be FOX PROPAGANDA.
The OUTPOURING of such would be Bush, Cheney and the rights’ ULTIMATE “messiah”, TRAITOR Ronnie Reagan..
January 30th, 2010 at 1:30 pmEugeneDebs says:
Obama TAUGHT constitutional law at a university that Simple Sarah couldnt even have qualified for….
Obama taught at University of Chicago and I would doubt that even 98% of the people here could get in. They have extremely high standards for students and professors. Obama can think on his feet which is why he does not need a teleprompter. He has a grasp of facts and how they relate to the subject. Bush couldn’t even think sitting down with the answers jumping out of a page and hitting him in the face.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:33 pmCheney has been kinda silent lately, wonder whats up with that?
January 30th, 2010 at 1:35 pmThat is not true!
She made a sweetheart deal with TranCanada Corp, a private company.
The Canadian Gov’t was not part of the process.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:38 pmI’ll agree that namejacking sucks, dr.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:41 pmIt didn’t sound like you and faking it sucks, namejacker.
Really…
Yes, “drhunt”, just like your Latin words say:
Fox is PROPAGANDA. Bush and Cheney and Reagan are TRAITORS.
And I, “drhunt”, am their azzlicker.
Ergo: YUMMMMMMM!”
January 30th, 2010 at 1:43 pmShe isn’t.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:47 pmdrhunt says:
That is not plagiarism, it is name-jacking.
Plagiarism is what you did last week when you used others written words in your comments and tried to pass it off on as as your work.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:47 pmLecturing is entirely the correct response when dealing with petulant, insolent children.
If that doesn’t get the job done, there’s always a firm a$$-whooping (I prefer crying to non-stop whining ANY day.)
Poor little GOPussies, they peed their panties AND NOW complain when someone points it out.
Get bent losers.
January 30th, 2010 at 2:38 pmdrhunt says:
Palin has forgotten more about domestic energy policies and issues then either Obama or Biden will ever know.
List some of the things. Solar? Wind? Wave? Dams? Nuclear? Biofuels? Anything she knows about? Because I’ve never heard her say anything about “domestic energy policies and issues” except “Alaska has oil,” which everybody already knew.
Then there’s geothermal. When the “gotcha media” asked her if she had ever met any leaders of other countries she said she hadn’t. Except she had met the Prime Minister of Iceland at a geothermal conference. So I guess that really does count as “forgetting about domestic energy policies and issues.” I’d prefer someone who remembers it, though.
This “energy expert” thing always fell like a dud. It was clearly a desperate attempt to spin her as knowing something about something. The fact that she was involved in issues regarding Alaska’s oil extraction is fine if 100% of the U.S. energy needs were going to be met by “drill here! drill now!,” which is not only massively destructive but impossible.

Newt is THE smartest politician alive.
What office does he hold again? And making things up about history isn’t the same thing as knowing history.
.
drhunt says:
Remember back in the debates when McCain let loose a 30 second discourse on the Caucases, while Obama stood there completely dumbfounded
Everybody else was dumbfounded too, as to why McCain started going off about the Caucases, which had nothing whatsoever to do with the questions.
.
drhunt says:
But let me ask you this…have any of those ethics charges ever been found truthful, (after she was acquitted in Troopergate, that is…the multitude of ethics violation allegations which constituted the reason why she left)?
She wasn’t acquitted. She wasn’t indicted in a court of law to begin with. The state senate was moving towards impeachment on the charges. So yes, I think the ethics violations did have something to do with why she resigned. Same reason Nixon did.
.
drhunt says:
The state Personnel Board-sanctioned investigation is the second into whether Palin violated state ethics law in firing her public safety commissioner, and it contradicts the earlier findings by a special counsel hired by the state Legislature.
That would be the report filed by the board that she personally hand-picked to investigate her, as opposed to the independent investigator (and a Republican) appointed by the legislature.
.
drhunt says:
Second, after several administrations previous to her, couldn’t get a deal done to build a gas pipeline to the lower 48 through Canada, Gov. Palin got it done by contracting and working with the Canadian government.
First of all, she didn’t get it done. She didn’t work with the Canadian government at all, much less the oil companies, and as a result the status of this pipeline project is in limbo, with billions of dollars now locked up and going nowhere, probably wasted.
Spending a bunch of the people’s money on trying to do something is not the same thing as accomplishing something. What are you, some kind of super-liberal?
.
drhunt says:
dbadass, Think Progress needs an enema and I am, quite simply, the nozzle.
I have a hard tiem disagreeing with the proposition that you are an enema nozzle.

drhunt says:
#522 db-then perhaps you can tell this board why Palin was so wildly popular up there…TIA.
Apparently they just like their sitting governors and don’t like quitters. Her popularity is plummeting. Meanwhile her replacement, Sean Parnell is sitting on some high ratings himself now.

DNFP (brought to you by Carls Jr) says:

I think of it as “lecturing” in the college professor sense, in which case the Republians present probably should have been taking notes.
January 30th, 2010 at 4:40 pmMuch the same attitude when anyone with a strong opinion is proven wrong — the blame gets redirected to the one with the correct message.
January 30th, 2010 at 4:48 pmNever seen so many one sided comments in my life. Careful associating Fox News with conservatism, you may deceive yourself into false hopes, no pun intended. Either way the government in place is going to ruin us. Follow the dollar, they and their cronies make off like bandits while we watch a dog and pony show on Fox and CNN. When are we going to stop arguing each other and turn our discontent to our elected officials.
January 30th, 2010 at 6:01 pmFox stayed there alot longer than I did. As soon as the Bafoon Obama opens his mouth I change channels. I cannot listen to that idiot.
January 30th, 2010 at 8:43 pmWhy are we supposed to care about Palin and Gingrich again? I thought the GOPhated celebrities that get involved in pretending to be politicians. They are professional actors and their opinion has about as much bearing as the guy that plays Ronald McDonald on television advertisements.
January 30th, 2010 at 9:01 pmMaybe if you were not constantly telling lies and bleating about your victimhood, there would a be “real debate”.

They already did: Paulson, etc. Now we’re just trying to put the economy back together after the theft took place. PS: Bush did it.

tass says:

Obama is about as intelligent and eloquent as it is possible for anyone to be. The only way you could think that he is “an idiot” is if you are congenitally incapable of accepting a black person as smart.
Also: Bafoon? Is that like a cross between a moran and a ni99ar? You teabaggers are so funny whenever you try to call other people stupid.
January 31st, 2010 at 3:41 pmFair enough ElBruce. I am glad you managed to lump me together with your other quote from “tass”. Furthermore, call me a teabagger and racist. You could not be more mistaken. I will gladly no longer participate in attempting to provide a slightly different perspective. You obviously missed my point. I fully respect President Obama and his intentions. Although it is getting really old, being called a racist, teabagger without validity. And ElBruce, trying to say stupid or buffoon is a substitute for a racist term is borderline libel. Just like it was far fetched to call Harry Reed a racist. All this low hanging fruit must make you feel so good about yourselves. Now I see why there are no other sides posted here. No need to read the posts either, just check how many positive or negative votes the post has. This will tell you all you need to know. Just like all our other forms of media, one sided. Funny how we are attempting to ridicule a news outlet for being so one sided, yet look at these posts. Someone tries to shed some light, or at least a different perspective and they get called a racist teabagger, and yet you are the one deducting unmentionable racist terms from the word stupid. What a joke, NewsCorp owns Fox, am I missing something?
February 1st, 2010 at 2:08 pmWe didn’t need another lecture, good decision FOX.
