Pipes: Obama Can ‘Save’ His Presidency By Bombing Iran

pipes.jpgNeoconservative scholar-activist Daniel Pipes has a new article on the leading conservative website National Review Online, in which he suggests that President Obama can “save” his presidency…by bombing Iran.

Writing that “Obama’s attempts to ‘reset’ his presidency will likely fail if he focuses on economics, where he is just one of many players,” Pipes claims that the president “needs a dramatic gesture to change the public perception of him… preferably in an arena where the stakes are high, where he can take charge, and where he can trump expectations”:

Such an opportunity does exist: Obama can give orders for the U.S. military to destroy the Iranian nuclear weapon capacity. [...]

Just as 9/11 caused voters to forget George W. Bush’s meandering early months, a strike on Iranian facilities would dispatch Obama’s feckless first year down the memory hole and transform the domestic political scene. It would sideline health care, prompt Republicans to work with Democrats, make netroots squeal, independents reconsider, and conservatives swoon.

While he’s at it, why doesn’t Pipes claim that bombing Iran would also balance the budget? It’s rare that neoconservatives are so explicit about their cynical view of foreign wars as an instrument of American domestic politics, but Pipes’ argument is about as clear as it gets. Let’s remember, this is the man who George W. Bush nominated in 2003 to the board of the United States Institute of Peace, something which even born-again hawk Christopher Hitchens found to be a joke.

For anyone inclined to believe Pipes’ delusion that airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities would not lead to a wider conflagration, consider Gen. Anthony Zinni’s exploration of the question: “After you’ve dropped those bombs on those hardened facilities, what happens next?” Zinni concluded:

Eventually, if you follow this all the way down, eventually I’m putting boots on the ground somewhere. And like I tell my friends, if you like Iraq and Afghanistan, you’ll love Iran.

As Max Bergmann noted on The Wonk Room, what the right is truly interested in is regime change. “The day after any attack on Iran, there will be immediate calls for more military action, as Iran still might have a fully capable and operational nuclear program. The only way to be sure that Iran isn’t developing a nuclear program, it will be argued, is to launch an invasion that results in the change of regime.”

Well, his wiki page mentions neither military service nor deferments, but he was 20 years old in 1969 and never interrupted his Harvard education, so one might assume he received educational deferments.

The most telling passage on the wiki page is this:

His 2003 nomination by U.S. President George W. Bush to the board of directors of the U.S. Institute of Peace was protested by Democratic leaders, Arab-American groups, and civil rights activists, who cited his rightist views and oft-stated belief that force was the most effective remedy to conflict. The Washington Post editorialized his selection as a “cruel joke”; the Bush administration sidestepped the opposition with a recess appointment

Could Vancouver 2010 be the next 9/11? (UPDATED 9:00AM EST 1-31-10), Posted by sakerfa on January 25, 2010

    WARNING:
I now believe I have reasonable grounds to suspect there could be a “false flag” operation carried out somewhere in the Vancouver area during the Olympics in Canada. Yes, this is purely speculation, but I feel the mention of it is justified in the interest of …

I hope you will look at the information and make up your own mind as to what pattern you see unfolding, this could really go any number of ways. Any information provided is for analytical and educational purposes only and is meant to raise public awareness of current events and the potential dangers they could present.

    WARNING SIGNS:
1.) Kinder Morgan, Dyno Nobel, Goldman Sachs, CIA and the missing Ammonium Nitrate
Two tons out of 6,000 tons of Ammonium Nitrate, (a fertilizer used in making powerful explosives) have gone missing from a shipment to a storage facility in the Vancouver area from a company that was recently bought out for $22 billion by some of the world’s largest financial companies. The buyout is being led by co-founder and chairman Richard D. Kinder, a ex-Enron executive. The companies involved in the purchase are Goldman Sachs, AIG, The Carlye Group and Riverstone Holdings. If that doesn’t get you interested, I don’t know what will.

2.) Afghanistan and the Ammonium Nitrate problem

3.) Canexus and the chlorine conundrum

4.) Bin Laden and his impeccable timing
Right on cue, as if it were a screenplay, and four days before the State of the Union address, the guy you have all heard of since 9/11, haven’t seen in a long time and who is probably dead, Mr. Usama Bin Laden ladies and gentlemen, give him a round of applause! He just came out in what is probably going to turn out to be yet another faked tape and predictably praised the underwear bomber that burned his genitals in a failed bombing attempt on Christmas Day of 2009 and said the attacks will continue and we can expect another 9/11 if we stop supporting Israel.

5.) Stephen Harper, the Prime Dictator?
In a recent development Canadian parliament has been prorogued (A term where they are suspended typically in order to make new legislation and where all governmental power apparently resides within the office of the Prime Minister.) until March 3rd (Remember that date.) after the games. The Prime Minister has also been given the sole responsibility for making the judgment call to shoot down any high jacked aircraft; normally this is not his responsibility.

This is strangely the same as before 9/11 where Dick Cheney was given control of the military air defenses for a short time due to war games being conducted, and he denied the request to shoot down the plane approaching the Pentagon ….

6.) The Canada/Israel (Mossad) Public Security agreement

7.) North American Integration: The Military

    8.) No accountability, no privacy
British Columbia’s privacy office has been frozen, leaving the government unaccountable, says a leaked letter.

    9.) 2,400 scheduled surgeries cancelled
Hospitals in the area surrounding the Olympics have cancelled 2,400 elective surgeries to make room for apparently much expected patients needing surgeries during the Olympics.

10.) World leaders decide to sit this one out.
It seems that people may be getting tipped off or have prior knowledge already!

11.) The same Israeli company Verint, whose camera systems were on buses and in the London underground and inconveniently (for us) malfunctioned on 7/7/05 during the London Bombings, was the same company to install cameras in Vancouver Airport, the subways in Montreal, and other key locations around Canada.

12.) Security measures have been increased to an historic all-time high with spending around $1 billion, even amid financial turmoil. Security includes the foreign United States military using NORAD to secure the air, purchases of 800 CCTV security cameras, new fences, two remote submarines to check for underwater threats and even bomb sniffing dogs.

13.) Peter Power Ranger, Visor Bombing Consultants and the Canadian Center for Emergency Preparedness
Ah yes, Peter Power, sounds more like a Power Ranger than an emergency consultant, but, guess who works as a consultant for the Canadian Center for Emergency Preparedness? You guessed it, Peter Power does, the same guy that was there on 7/7 during the London Bombings. For those of you who don’t know who Peter is or what his company Visor Consultants was doing when the London Underground was bombed, you’re in for a surprise.
Here’s the scoop, during the London Bombings on 7/7, Visor Consultants was working with the government helping to practice for a “fictional” scenario where the London Underground and bus system would be attacked by terrorists with bombs. Well, as the story goes, they were running these drills and while the drills were being run, guess what happened?

14.) Watch out for bombs, says the media
The corporate/government-controlled media outlets are exaggerating the threat of radical Islamic terrorism and the UK has raised the threat level to “severe”.

15.) Peaceful and violent protests, and agent provocateurs

    16.) Rights violations
Already people are being detained at the border and freedom of speech is being discouraged.

    17.) Prediction or fiction?
We also have some strange things happening that have proven in the past to be unusually accurate about predicting the future (Ex. Tom Clancy’s novel that predicted the incident between Russian and Georgia). Here, we find a recent novel written about the Olympics being attacked by terrorists in 2010 in Vancouver, could this be predictive programming? This also is used, once again to cause us to recall a traumatic event such as 9/11 (by the terrorism association) and associate it with the new potential traumatic event (Olympics attack) so the same programming about what to believe and how to act carries over.

[See also, pre-9/11 'Turner Diaries' re: plane flown into Pentagon in order to ignite military uprising as 'retaliation.']

    18.) 2012 and “British Columbia 2012, remember?”
Another strange thing someone noticed is that we have a Hollywood movie (2012) placed in the year 2012, (a movie about the destruction of the world and the elite leaving behind the masses in protective bunkers only to save themselves) mentioning British Columbia 2010. Why?

    19.) A pattern?
I want to point out something a bit strange about how basic numerology is surrounding this event. Notice the pattern of doubled numbers with each of the previous false flag events and others. 3/11 in Madrid, 9/11 in New York, 9/11 Nazi Kristallnacht, 7/7 in London, 11/22 JFK, 11/26 in Mumbai, 6/6 RFK, 6/6 is D Day and Armistice (Veterans) day is remembered at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year. The list goes on, but the suspected dates if there were to be an attack, based on history, are Feb. 22nd (2/22) ….

20.) The Toronto 18 terror plot
There was a foiled “terror plot” called the “Toronto 18” in which 18 people were arrested and detained. Their plan was reportedly to behead the Prime Minister and use Ammonium Nitrate bombs to blow up targets around Canada. The leader has been sentenced to prison for life and is serving that time, but another walked away free after being sentenced 7 years in prison because of his four years already spent in jail.

21.) The mysterious hydro vault explosion
An electrical hydro vault in downtown Vancouver also exploded recently and injured three workers while they were doing “regular maintenance”. The news claims that electrical maintenance was being performed on something they claim isn’t even being used for anything. Why were they working on something that isn’t even used?

    22.) 3,200 tickets?
On a less suspicious note, the Canadian government bought over $1 million worth of tickets, over 3,200 seats, and refuses to tell who gets to use them. In some seemingly good news, some politicians have admitted they are refusing to accept tickets as perks because they say it is “inappropriate”. More recently though,
“The federal and provincial governments are trying to say that the tickets are only being used to ‘advance government agendas’, as though that admission makes it sound any better.”

23.) People don’t want their tickets anymore
Originally, tickets were sold out in two days, prices varied but went as high as $750 per event. Soon after, those who purchased the tickets began to resell them online for higher prices, some as high as $5,000. Ticket sales at those prices have been steady for months until a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly tickets aren’t being purchased, and lots of people are selling their tickets! Tickets are now being sold at prices lower than they were originally.
    . . .

There are scores of sites now popping up warning about this possible attack on the Olympics, and lots of people will soon be searching for more evidence that this could be a false-flag attack. A friend of mine in the Army at Ft. Bragg, NC said to me in recent months that he believes the US military is preparing for a false-flag attack. Now that was scary for me to hear, because he didn’t go into any more detail than that. Anything is possible, and these things are plausible.

We don’t need to be afraid, we just need to get the word out, if we do, this may never happen.

    ——

Munich massacre — From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Munich massacre is an informal name for events that occurred during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, when members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually murdered by Black September, a militant group with ties to Yasser Arafat’s Fatah organization. The commando operation was officially named “Ikrit and Biram”, after two Christian Palestinian villages whose inhabitants had been killed or expelled by the Hagannah in 1948.

Israel responded to the massacre with Operation Spring of Youth and Operation Wrath of God, as well as a series of airstrikes and assassinations of those suspected ….

    ====
In September ‘72, (B.C. – Before Cable-TV was ‘invented’), the incited international chaos, and sympathy for Israelis, and bonfires of fear dominated the headlines and pushed aside everything else in news journals, only 3 months after the Watergate crimes and as hearings of the cases were on court dockets, and only 2 months before Nixon’s re-election.

Today, there is American public and congressional resistance against invading Iran, as plans have promoted at length in the media — and ‘people are talking,’ and as Israel’s extremist right-wing government officials eagerly urge.

… if only some lit fuse would touch it off!

Besides, everyone in the massmind of media said that although 9/11 was a tragedy we shall never forget, fortunately “it saved Dubya’s presidency.”

The world can save itself by bombing Israel and the ten dollar thugs who run it.

  153. MapleStreet says:

And just how is starting a new war gonna improve the holy budget deficit ?

And as Iran has friends with other nations, wouldn’t potentially brining in other nations for us to fight be a bad thing ?

Dr. Hussein Matt (Sponsored by Magnum Condoms) says:

    ——————————————————————————–

Yeah, great advice, because the last guy that followed such advice had a really successful presidency. Dolts.

    LOL!!!!!!

  155. Bluestocking says:

Typical neoconservative rhetoric…if the natives are getting restless, go to WAR!

If we have no allies with us, Bomb Iran.
If we’re thinkin’ someone’s dissed us, Bomb Iran.
We don’t need no damn inspections,
Let’s look tough for the elections,
Close your mind and take directions, Bomb Iran.

    It’s “pre-emptive non-aggression”, Bomb Iran.
Let’s prevent this mass destruction, Bomb Iran.
They’ve got weapons we can’t see,
And that’s good enough for me
‘Cos it’s all the proof I need, let’s Bomb Iran.

If campaign deception’s showin’, Bomb Iran.
    If dissatisfaction’s growin’, Bomb Iran.
    If your politics are sleazy,
    And hiding that ain’t easy,
And your manhood’s getting queasy, Bomb Iran.

Fall in line and follow orders, Bomb Iran.
For our might knows not our borders, Bomb Iran.
    Disagree? We’ll call it treason,
It’s the Make War, Not Love season,
Even if we have no reason, Bomb Iran.

Hey! The Christian God’s on our side, Bomb Iran.
Bless the weapons, take the ride and Bomb Iran.
    Let the innocents be killed,
And lots of heathen blood be spilled,
To get our fuel tanks cheaply filled, let’s BOMB IRAN!

  156. lvdragonlady says:

I can go one better. Let’s send the GOP(all of those elected bastards) to the Middle East with NO weapons – that would solve Obama’s problem and solve America’s too.

  157. EnnuiDivine (a wholly owned and operated subsidiary of Hexxon) says:

  160. Tim43 says:

Obama doesn’t need to bomb Iran to get reelected. ACORN will be back in full force stuffing ballot boxes for him. The corrupt Unions will be right along side of ACORN. And the Black Panthers will be outside of poling locations intimidating anyone who even remotely looks like they will vote against the anointed one.

And Eric Holder will not prosecute anyone who breaks the law for Obama. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jul/12/the-black-panther-case/

And the democrats are the so called fair and tolerant party. Riiigght!!!!
