Last night, Oliver North, the retired U.S. Marine Corps officer-turned-Fox News contributor, appeared on Hannity’s America to condemn the administration’s decision to overturn “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” North characterized Obama’s support for the repeal as a “stunning assault on the all-volunteer military, the very best in the world” and suggested that allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve openly was the tantamount to letting pedophiles into the military:
Stunning assault on the all-volunteer military, the very best in the world. Barack Obama now intents to treat them like lab rats in a radical social experiment, and it can be very, very detrimental. … In other words, this isn’t about rights. This isn’t about fairness. It’s all about national security. And apparently, Mr. Obama has forgotten it. … Now, here’s what’s next. NAMBLA [North American Man/Boy Love Association] members, same-sex marriages. Are chaplains in the U.S. military going to be required to perform those kinds of rituals? Do they get government housing?

The irony of a convicted felon who lied about diverting proceeds from arms sales to a rebel group in Nicaragua supporting a policy that forces gay and lesbian servicemen to lie about their sexual orientation was lost on both Hannity and North. The pair also failed to mention that Joint Chief of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen personally supports the policy’s repeal, which would have forced North to condemn him for treating the troops “like lab rats in a radical social experiment.” (HT: MMFA)

And what a technicality it was!
In other words they overturned it not because they thought he was innocent, or because they thought his Congressional testimony had been introduced, but solely because they thought the court didn’t absolutely guarantee that it hadn’t. I would think that if you were going to file a motion to dismiss charges based on violating immunity elsewhere, you should have to show how it was violated, not make the other side prove it wasn’t.
You know, if regular folks convicted of regular crimes could get off on such minor quibbles as that, our prisons would be completely empty.
But even if the judicial record doesn’t show him as being guilty of doing the things that he did, the Congressional record still does. In short, he actually committed those crimes and got away with it.

This vicious, lying, punk-mouthed puke worked to undermine the Constitution by setting up a secret government entity that could operate w/o any Congressional oversight and in direct contravention of Congressionally established law. Not only did he violate his oath, he actively and aggressively worked to be that very thing he took an oath to protect against.
Regardless of how minor it was, I served my country; I kept my oath. And in my own, absurd little ways, I still keep that oath, and will keep it as long as there is breath in my body or will in my soul.

I concur with your last paragraph. What is known about Reagan’s and Casey’s activities vis-a-vis Iran is damning enough. In an earlier era, it might have been enough to get them both thrown into prison for high treason; then again, in that era, the seizure of our embassy in Tehran would have been sufficient to have caused our government to send in the Marines, plus a couple of heavy armored divisions from the Army.

When TP says “…diverting proceeds from arms sales to a rebel group in Nicaragua….”, that is not nearly strong enough. The arms were going to terrorists in Iran under the fracking Ayatollah Khomenei!!!!! There was a very specific law against this—as there was against arming the terrorist/drug running/kidnapping/raping/butchers (Reagan called them the moral equivalent of our founding fathers) known as the Contras.
They were not a “rebel group IN Nicaragua”. They were a mercenary group that would not have existed without US support who could never hold a base IN Nicaragua. Reagan’s election team (including soon-to-be CIA chief William Casey) wanted to prevent the “October Surprise” of Iran releasing the hostages just before the election, thus giving a boost to Carter. The team made a deal with the terrorists to hold the hostages until Carter was out, and they would sell Iran massive amounts of arms in return!!!
The plan was to be about $1 Billion worth of weapons, but got cut short to about $200(?) million worth when two airplane crashes revealed what was going on. The official version was that these arm sales were for the release of hostages taken in LEBANON, but that is impossible since the arms flow began BEFORE the hostages were taken in LEBANON!!! I cannot believe the mainstream media could not figure out this little logical destruction of the official version. They were just too cowardly to bring such charges against Reagan! It was, after all, not just a bl0wjob!
