Palin: Obama could win reelection if he ‘played the war card’ and declared ‘war on Iran.’

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace conducted a 25-minute interview with Sarah Palin, a paid contributor to Fox News. Palin told Wallace that she doesn’t think President Obama will win reelection in 2012 if he “continues on the path he has America on.” However, Palin indicated that his chances of winning would dramatically change if Obama simply declared war on Iran:

WALLACE: How hard do you think President Obama would be to defeat in 2012?

PALIN: It depends on a few things, say he played — I got this from Buchanan — say he played the war card. Say he decided to declare war on Iran or decide to really come out and do whatever he could to support Israel–which I would like him to do. That changes the dynamics of what we can assume will happen between now and three years. Because I think if the election were today, Obama would not be elected.

WALLACE: You’re not suggesting that Obama would cynically play the war card?

PALIN: I’m not suggesting that, I’m saying if he did, things would dramatically change if he decided to toughen up and do all that he can to secure our nation and secure our allies. I think people would shift their thinking a bit.

Watch it:

Palin appears to be fine-tuning her position on Iran. Late last year, Palin mistook Iraq for Iran when she suggested that the U.S. has to crack down on Iraq to prevent nuclear war in Iran. In 2008, Palin appeared to claim that the U.S. needs to “win” the non-existent war with Iran. During her interview with Wallace, Palin also confirmed that she would consider running for President in 2012 and that it would be “absurd” not to.

War seems to be the primary export of the U.S. these days.

Sarah Palin is a deranged money grubber and a witless ninny.

The fact that so many “religious” people support her speaks to the utter bankruptcy and moral rot of their ideologies.

Sarah still needs to produce a birth certificate for Trigg.

No one ever recalls seeing her pregnant just before the birth of Trigg.

    How about it, right-wingers?

Any photos out there showing her “great with child?”

  7. Peter C says:

When she says, “say he decided to declare war on Iran…” it should disqualify her from elected office. News Flash, Sarah: the President can’t declare war. Please go away, repeat 8th grade civics, and come back when you’ve passed.

  8. Wiz says:

What Palin is saying that if she were President, she would start a war with Iran to ensure her re-election, that is what Bush did, and it worked for him. Bush was itching for a war with Iraq even before 9/11, and used that excuse to do it. The question is if Palin will remember if it was Iraq or Iran will be the one she attacks. May be she can write it on her hand.

  9. HomerSexual says:

Obama would lose the 2012 election if it was known he was taking advice from Sarah Palin.

The Sarah Palin fan clubs all over the nation, also known as evangelical churches,

Evangelicalism is pushing for more war, in order that the Rapture, Armageddon and the Second Coming should occur.

Evangellicalism is a death cult which celebrates the upcoming arrival of the Messiah in an orgy of blood, violence, horror and destruction.

It’s a brilliant idea, you have to admit. Because there’s nothing that the American people want more right now than another war and another occupation. That would be a big hit!

  12. tom says:

Random thoughts…meaningless folksy phrases…red meat…snide criticisms. That’s what Simple Sarah is made of. The whole interview was an utter and total train wreck. Apparently, she didn’t boot up her PalmPrompter for the occasion.

  13. evangenital says:

    Fess up, Sarah.

    Where have those fingers been?

  14. liberalinaredstate says:

Uh Oh Palin is touting her foreign policy experience again! Look out Iran she’s coming for you, even if she can’t find you on a map or can tell the diffence between Iraq and Iran. We’re still in debt, and will be in debt for decades, because of Bush’s war in Iraq and she wants to start one with Iran because of what she perceives to be bad US policy with Israel. Did you she have breakfast with Bill Kristol?

  15. joeyramonesmom says:

Peter C @ 7: Well, she didn’t know what the VP does, so I’m not surprised she doesn’t know the President’s role either.

  16. falco says:

And this suggestion gave Wallace a stiffy which raised Palin off his lap, right?

  17. kraftysue says:

I watched the whole interview and got the biggest laugh out of Chris Wallace’s facial expression just when the show went back to “live” from the recorded interview. That said it all!

She repeated that old lie about Alaska supplying 20% of all US oil needs when they only supply 3.5% according to Fact Check.

She says her prime goal is to be a good Mom, yet an item receiving little notice is that daughter Willow was recently arrested with other teenagers, breaking into a vacant home for the purpose of partying with alcohol. And when does Piper ever go to school–she traveled with her mother during the campaign and on the book tour.

  18. hwmnbn says:

That’s rich. Palin giving Obama advice on winning elections. She should have given herself some of her own sage advice when SHE was running. What a self-aggrandizing twit.

  19. evangenital says:

Kratysue, Mommie Sarah is showing her daughters that all they need to get on in life is a nice rack, great looks and the ability to flirt with men.

  25. Patty says:

    17. Kraftysue says: She says her prime goal is to be a good Mom, . . .

Now, Kraftysue, you have no right to drag my children through the mud. We small-town folk, we raise good people. My kids are my business — especially when they benefit my business. You did read that chapter in my book devoted to the pain involved in giving birth to my first child, didn’t you? No other woman in history endured such pain and such as I and still, ya know, gave so selflessly with the lovin’ and the carin’.

  40. majii says:

Ignace-Liberals know that war mongering is a threat, and we are concerned about the loss of lives on all sides of the conflict, but teabaggers and republicans don’t care. They take a narrow view of war and don’t consider all of its consequences. That’s why we are spending billions and losing our soldiers in two wars.

  41. JellyKelly says:

Is this the day she was supposed to give somebody a lap dance?

  42. politicalscrum says:

What Sarah doesn’t realize is that if the election were held today against her or any other person the republicans could run – he would win. The first year accomplishments of the Obama administration are pretty impressive even before you put into play the fact that their actions kept our whole economy from melting down.

If this is the kind of insightful political commentary Fox News is getting from Sarah, I suggest they ask for their money back.

  43. Impishparrot says:

Palin openly – recklessly – advocating war with other countries to win elections? She wants to kill all those ‘innocent’ Iranians who marched and died in protests against their government this past year? Prepare to die if this woman is ever elected to the Oval Office. She will get us all killed.

She could be dangerous…or she could be a very useful idiot. I hope it’s the latter.

And this is how I hope it plays out. Palin burns bridges with the republicans. Her continued media exposure narrows her following to the poor hapless teabaggers. Her vanity co-opts her into agreeing to run a third-party presidential campaign in 2012. She becomes for President Obama what Ross Perot was for Clinton in 1992.

  60. tarazan says:

Sarah Palin support for war against Arab and Moslem countries resulted from continuous tutoring by Neocons about the Middle Eastern affairs,
as Justin Raimondo of (Anti War.com website) wrote in Novemebr of 2008:

“Sarah had her head stuffed with Neocons talking points in the lead-up to the election when she was McCain’s running mate.
She was strapped to a chair and forced to read a year’s worth of Weekly Standards out loud while having the audio version of the complete works of Norman Podhoretz piped into her ears, poor pistol- packing’ Sarah was no match for her Neocon interrogators, who ironed all those right-wing populist quirks out of her malleable mindset”.

    Raimondo also wrote:
” Comments by the governor of Alaska in her first television interview,in which she said NATO may have to go to war with Russia and took a tough line on Iran’s nuclear program, were the result of two weeks briefings by Neoconservatives”.

    In another NeoCons talking point,
Sarah addressing the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce in Salina Kansas:
“I believe the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is,is going to grow. She added :”And I don’t think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that Jewish settlements cannot expand”.
    These are exactly Neocons points.
Using the word ‘Grow and growing’ are nothing but repeating what Israel’s Natanyahu has been saying since he was re elected as prime minister of Israel to keep Palestinians land under occupation.
I don’t know what teabaggers are hoping to get by paying her all this money to come and sell them Neocons’ ideas that she was heavily tutored by Neocons?

  105. hellcat says:

You know what is truly amazing…or not…is the fact that Palin and the rest of the Tea Baggers can talk for hours and not say a goddamned thing of substance. I actually watched the so-called convention on c-span yesterday while exercising and was astounded as I watched speaker after speaker rail and spew in vague generalities not once did anyone actually propose any concrete proposal for a solution to any of their paranoid rants. Not one that I could hear. It’s amazing. It was like listening to the rants of a bunch of pissed off barely literate adolescents who hate everything and everyone. That’s what these folks are….adolescents spewing shit. But these people have money and drive and they vote and they are Republicans no matter what they say. I visited a lot of websites and they are all rightwingers with an attitude, a vote and no solutions..and they hate Obama and Democrats. They are a dangerous group. I wouldn’t underestimate them. And the more names they are called the more they dig in their heels…just like my 5 year old. What a bunch.

  106. SoapBox says:

Ahhh yes…the ploy for the Baggers to seem “mainstream”:

    http://www.thepoliticalcarnival.net/2010/02/reinventing-thetea-partiers-no-more.html

I think the key verbiage is this:

“But at the inaugural National Tea Party Convention here this weekend, gone were the placards that protesters carried last year with Mr. Obama’s face wearing a Hitler mustache or superimposed on the Joker. Gone, really, were any placards, unless you count the poster of Sarah Palin in her signature red jacket that hung from one of the wrought-iron balconies of the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center.”

“Organizers said that anyone “looking too crazy” would have been tossed out. They had a goal that turned out to be shared by pretty much everyone here: to turn the Tea Party into a serious political force, rather than the angry fringe group they say it had been branded as.”

  107. tarazan says:

There is nothing more dangerous than a leader who takes his country to war so he can keep his seat or get re-elected.
This is the lowest of the low.
People like these should be prosecuted for their criminal acts playing with lives and money of their own citizens who put them in office to begin with.

  108. Xisithrus says:

Seriously bad advice. Palin doesnt want Obama to win a re-election. If he did start another war he wouldnt get re-elected.

  109. SWBob says:

The corporate media running America agrees that war is the best headlines device they have ever seen. Palin has her orders and she’s marching to them.

  110. Cal Malenky says:

…which, of course, is what Sarah would do if she was President. Y’know, bring about those tribulations the end-timers are so anxious to bring on all of us who aren’t rapture-ready.

  111. linzloo08 brought to you by Kaiser Permanente says:

Yeah sister sarah, cause that strategy obviously worked so well in Iraq.
Ya know, the country that you kept mixing up with Iran.
Why did I ever vote for you and Daddy McInsane in the first place?

  112. linzloo08 brought to you by Kaiser Permanente says:

Sarah, hon, you probably shouldn’t be offering President Obama any advice on foreign policy. After all, you didn’t know where to find Iraq on a map and you didn’t know that there is a North Korea and a South Korea and about a little something called the 58th parallel that divides both Koreas.

  113. chingebush says:

why would they applaud anything that would add untold hundreds of billions to it?

  115. Xisithrus says:

1999 Doomsday Christian cult members planning “violent and extreme acts” to jump-start the return of Jesus and the fulfilment of Biblical prophecy at the close of the millennium were last night under arrest in Israel after raids on several houses.

Police detained eight adults and six children belonging to an American apocalyptic cult calling itself Concerned Christians in the quiet and prosperous dormitory towns of Mevasseret Zion and Moza, six miles west of Jerusalem.

The group, based in Denver, Colorado, was planning to provoke a bloody shoot-out by opening fire on Israeli police, believing that this catastrophic act would hasten the Second Coming of Christ, according to police.

    Huh.

  117. Briseadh na Faire says:

How easy it is to talk about war when you don’t suffer the consequences.

I wonder if Palin will change her tune if her son gets killed in combat? Somehow, I doubt it. She’d be more likely to try to capitalize on it for political gain.

But, according to Palin, if Obama goes to war against Iran and causes the deaths of untold thousands of innocent Iranians, he would gain politically.

Is that the price we must pay to elect someone? Elect the person who can kill the most?

  118. puffkitty says:

  120. Jane E. Schneider says:

Briseadh, did you notice that Sarah joked about doubting whether her now-serving son had ever turned on C-Span in his life? Apparently he, too, doesn’t have any interest in or knowledge of the actual execution of the Constitution that both he and his mom swore an oath to protect and defend.

There is an upside to Palin’s statements. Iran is paying attention to what she says and evaluating the possibility that Obama could be replaced by a more right wing regime. 126. Game of Life says:

Sarah Palin attended 5 different colleges in 6 1/2 years before she received her B/S. in Journalism. Over 62% of her higher education was on internet classes, and she had a c average. HAHAHAHA what a quitter and a loser.

Also what wh staff is keeping mooseyak briefed on foreign affairs? What right doesn’t she have to get first hand info?
All she is going to do is spin the truth into some freaky repug talking point.

She doesn’t have enough room on both palms and forearms to crib her response on foreign policy.

  127. had enough says:

Palin: Obama could win reelection if he ‘played the war card’ and declared ‘war on Iran.’

    Doesn’t she really mean:

Obama would lose support or 90% of the public if he started a third war. They would come to me as I preach fiscal responsibility…. I would be the next president!

Have the corporate powers chosen this witch as they could easily have their way with her?

  128. labman57 says:

Interesting that Palin believes that a declaration of war — which only the Congress can invoke — is a legitimate presidential act to garner public support in an election year.
A true Machiavellian that would make Cheney proud.

  129. jimbo92107 says:

Republicans spent eight years digging this country into the deepest economic hole since the Great Depression. Finally kicked out of office, they have spent Obama’s entire first year doing nothing but pointing to their hole and saying, “Look at that hole! It’s all Obama’s fault!”

Now their brilliant leader, hand reader Sarah tells us that Obama needs to bomb-bomb Iran to win in 2012. Should he take the advice of this rather shallow, rather stupid person?

  130. had enough says:

    129 labman57 ,

Think of all the defense revenue Palin is capable of stirring up with her attack Iran attitude. It is no wonder the corporate powers love this woman, set her up with a party and convention and blasted it all over the corporate MSM.

We, in the thousands, protested in the streets over the invasion/massacre of Iraq and the corporate media barely covered it.

  131. Zooey (sponsored by The Blue Sun Corporation) says:

During her interview with Wallace, Palin also confirmed that she would consider running for President in 2012 and that it would be “absurd” not to.

Please run, Sister Sarah. Srsly, please do!

  132. Imichael says:

Her advise is so distorted. President Obama won on the platform that he opposed the Iraq war. By her logic if any republican running in 2012 says he is willing to bomb Iran will be elected.

  133. tarazan says:

    Palin:
” Either decide to go to war with Iran, or decide to do whatever he could to support Israel”.
In both cases anyway he will be supporting Israel.
So, Sarah is linking re-election to support of Israel…
She must have passed the NeoCons course test, ‘learn always to support Israel to stay in power’.

  134. Game of Life says:

What is so cute about a woman who’s determine to destroy or at the very least, keep the repugs’ mob-agenda going? She looks like a typical hillbilly and acts like one too. That hillbonics of hers is the worse. Public pics of “her” baby without shoes, pants, socks or a hat on during inclement weather while she sports all the gear needed, matching no less.

Her voice is like fingernail on a chalkboard, her lame teatard ignorance is like talking to a table and her stupidness is beyond belief.

    Two things teatards.
One, there are more, way more inds/dems than inds/repugs. So don’t think you have the ind thing wrapped up or it yours, liars.

Two, mooseyak is dysfunctional so is her family. You know it too. Don’t compare President Obama (OUR FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN, BLACK President of the United States of America) to your lowest loon in your shit parade. The “smartest” repug can’t handle President Obama and the truth. IT WAS PROVEN ON 01/29/10.

As much as you want to cut-run on the facts and wars and the economy and middle-America and the sick and dying you will NEVER escape the truth.

  135. pags2 says:

    Imichael says: @133

I agree. The public is weary of two wars even though we are pulling out of Iraq. Any Republican or politician who openly advocates a war with another country will frighten most voters. Palin and the Republicans are going to use the Dems/Obama are soft on terrorists theme. Her statements will scare away a lot of voters if she decides to run. In fact, if she endorses any candidate, it could be the kiss of death.

  136. cccp simian says:

Those of us in the progressive movement who actually believe she could not secure the nomination are kidding themselves.

Do you really believe this lunatic couldn’t (and wouldn’t) excite that “base” of rabid, racist fear-mongers who ask “Where is my America?” because a black man is president? Will she bring them out in droves to the primary polls? She would and likely will. We should support that.

Winning a Republican (or Tea Party) nomination and the general election are two VERY different things. When the entirety of your support comes from angry white trailer park residents that watch FauxNews, that gets you what…twenty to twenty five percent? No latino, black, or intelligent white voter will ever back this nutjob and President Obama would be re-elected in a landslide of historic proportions.

Outside of Alabama, what state will she carry? We should all not only hope and pray that she runs, we should support her and her teabagging aspirations every step of the way.

  137. ElBruce, owned and operated by NewsCorp, Inc. says:

Quite simply, anybody who views starting a war as merely “playing a card” in some political game has no business being President.

I live in rural Georgia and what I though was sad and fringe behavior from the republican-baptist people down here, has become mainstream America. The loss of 3 elections, Obama letting insane accusations (many from my own state’s congressman)go unanswered, the lack of guts from Democratic leadership, coupled with Palin bringing the tea-baggers into the GOP fold(it will happen)and the insanity of the Christian groups probably spells the end of the dollar.

BTW, I am a 16yr Vet, who is constantly amazed by the fear/war mongering that I witness everyday. It is sick, when I am told that I don’t love my country, by some fat, uneducated, too scared to sign up for military service/war lover, piece of shit, simply because I won’t agree that Obama is the Anti-Christ

And I thought it was bad to just come from a conservative family. At least I’m not surrounded by it totally (although I wanna poke my eyes out everytime I see my mom’s McCain/Palin bumper sticker on the family minivan.
