We Don’t Respect You Or Take You Serious
Jeffrey Goldberg has a bitchy post about how blogging sucks because people are mean to you. One would think a sensible answer would be not to blog, but that would require less self-regard than Goldberg possesses. Andrew Sullivan, he reports, tries to calm him down:
“Calling you an asshole is just the blogosphere’s way of saying hello,” he said.
Actually, sometimes it’s just the blogosphere’s way of calling you an asshole, you asshole! Here’s another way: How about you come clean about your bullshit reporting, in which you credulously peddled the self-serving claims of Kurdish intelligence officials that Saddam Hussein was in league with al-Qaeda? Goldberg tries to slip in a reference to how that charge is “a discredited accusation,” which is yet another dishonesty from him. Hey Jeff! You have a blog now! You don’t want people to call you a fake reporter? Then explain yourself. Publicly.
Then he goes after bloggers for not reporting. And you know, he’s right! Except for, oh, I dunno, Paul Kiel, Ken Silverstein, Justin Rood, Bill Roggio, Michael Yon, Marcy Wheeler, Kriston Capps, Greg Sargent — *deep breath* — Marc Ambinder, Dana Goldstein, Moe Tkacik, Megan Carpentier, myself… But why should not knowing what he’s talking about stop Goldberg? He’s built an entire career on it.

He also doesn’t allow comments on his blog. What a wimp.
It would be nice if he would actually address criticisms about how he helped launch this bloody occupation.
And, you left Josh Marshall out of your list. Is it related to some old workplace dispute?

The irony is the Jeffrey Goldberg is considered a serious, respectable journalist precisely em>because of his war flackery and not in spite of it.
These unchastened warmongers, far from shrinking into deserved obscurity, continue to get all kinds of access, exposure and prestige. Ex-hawks like Mr. Ackerman are seen as cowardly and weak-willed, deficient in their commitment to a beautiful and just cause and people that opposed the war from the start….raving Chomskyites, the lot of ‘em.

No beef with Josh! Absolutely none. That’s my dude right there. I shouted out Paul and Greg who do the lion’s share of the TPM reporting these days. Josh has gone from a non-douchebaggy Peyton Manning to a Tony Dungy role.

If his “The Palestinians Wanted Chaos” post is a foretaste of what’s to come I don’t think we’re going to get much in the way of intellectual honesty from Jeffrey Goldberg. I think Barbara Walters could have done a tougher interview of “one of Israel’s most interesting thinkers.”
