R.I.P. JohnnyRook and Climaticide Chronicles

As readers know, climate blogger JohnnyRook, aka Steven Kimball, was very ill (see “Murder, He Wrote“). On Monday, he died in his home in Port Townsend, Washington at the age of 53.

Meteor Blades at Daily Kos has a very nice tribute in which he notes:

Steven’s family has asked that anyone who wishes to make a remembrance in his name can contribute to 350 org at this link. It’s hard to imagine a more appropriate place. Goodbye, Steven. We miss you already.

Let me just end with what Rook posted in the comments of my tribute to him, since it was once of the last things he ever wrote:

Dear Joe,

Thank you for such a touching enconmium.

Humanity is, as the name Climaticide Chronicles makes clear, in the process of murdering the climate. Everywhere Rook — or any of us — looks, there is more and more evidence of that crime in process.

But it is not too late. The murder can be stopped. I wouldn’t be blogging if didn’t know that for a fact…. I’m sure Rook feels the same way.

[I do-Rook]

I am proud to say that my 19-year old son, Aleks and a friend, Andrew, did make the choice to go in my stead and are already at the in D.C. for the Powershift Action. I know this is a going to be a very exciting time for both of them, and that they will carry the battle into the future until we have succeeded.

It’s getting harder and harder for me to write, even simple comments like this, but my thoughts and sympathies are with you always.

  1. DavidONE says:

Condolences and best wishes to Steven’s family and friends. JohnnyRook’s inspirational example will not be lost on many of us.

  2. Condolences and I am sorry for the life that will be missed, to the family and for us. Perhaps the spirit and memory of Johnny Rook, his writing, thoughts and actions will inspire us and future generations to work for the continued protection of our planet. We know that those that come before us, walked with us, and will still be there in spirit encouraging us toward our goal.
    Blessings- Elaine Cimino

  3. We are all JohnnyRook now.

Time for us each to step up our efforts and do what Steve would do if he had the chance.
