Tom Toles cartoon yesterday is on our new plan for dealing with climate change:
Good thing nothing like that is possible (see Rep. Shimkus: “Man will not destroy this Earth. This Earth will not be destroyed by a flood.” Rep. Barton: “I wish I had another dozen John Shimkuses on the committee.”)

“God gave Noah the rainbow sign, no more water the fire next time.”
There was a promise that the earth would not be destroyed again by flood, but no promise about rising temperatures.

‘Twas abrupt climate change that got Noah & kinfolk off their bronze arses & hammering together a Manhattan Project to save the grandkids & biodiversity.
Perhaps, nothing short of the Second Coming of ACC will make it happen again.
“Noah, stop installing those solar panels. Get a V8, it’s much cheaper!”
A number of people in New Hampshire this March needed boats to get from and to the front door of their houses. Main street of Salem was accessible only by boat for a day or so.
Four separate deluges in March caused some people to endure repeated flooding.
Probably a good trade to learn now, ark building.
Actually, something like that seems to be in store. The last time CO2 concentrations were as high as now was in the Miocene with sea levels tens of meters above today’s.

Unfortunately, we aren’t building arks, we’re building moai, like the Easter-Islanders. We’re wasting precious time and resources on dead-ends when we desperately need to break with the status quo and actually addressing climate change and environmental degradation while we still have choices and resources to work with. Jared Diamond pointed that out eloquently in “Collapse” that societies always come back into balance with nature, whether by choice or cataclysm.
Sometimes nature comes back into balance without the society.
