(TheWeatherSpace.com) – After more than 30 years, Long Range and Expert Meteorologist Joe Bastardi has resigned from Accuweather.com
Jesse Ferrell of Accuweather.com officially announced the rumor as true, leaking it to a known weather forum.
A call into Accuweather to confirm this was met with a hostile person on the other end that declined to comment on why Bastardi left, ending up in a hang up.
“I don’t think we’ve issued an official release, but what I posted on his facebook page serves as truth”, Ferrell said.
Well, who knows, maybe Accuweather reads ClimateProgress [see "How many major scientific misstatements does Joe Bastardi have to make before In-Accuweather fires him as their chief long-range forecaster?" As expected, he rejects my bet. He says that if he's wrong, he'll be "driven from the field"].
Probably not, I suppose, but he wasn’t helping their reputation as the self-proclaimed “World’s Weather Authority” with his absurdly anti-scientific long-range forecasts claiming we are headed back to 1970s levels of temperature and Arctic sea ice cover (see “I accept Joe Bastardi’s wager on global warming “” and I also challenge him to one on Arctic sea ice“).
As I said last year, if he does leave, I expect FoxNews will hire him as their ‘forecaster’. Any wagers on how fast that happens?

He will reappear on Fox “News”.
Yeah, they’ll have him on, followed by Steven Milloy to provide “balance” :)
He has just what Fox needs.

Hard not to gloat especially as likely he’ll now appear more often on Faux News.
Here’s 3 things that Bastardi could end up doing:
1. He won’t be FauxNews forecaster: he’ll be their “climate expert”. He’ll provide biased opinion and inaccurate commentary on climate change-related stories.
2. He could become an aide to Senator Inhofe. Inhofe hasn’t had a good propagandist-in-chief since Morano went independent.
3. Climate change advisor to Fred Upton and the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
I never like to wish ill on anyone. Bastardi has chosen his own path. Fox will probably pay him as an ‘entertainer’ in much the same way as they did Palin (who was so blatantly angling for a job with Fox that her move was very easy to predict). Maybe his show, if he gets it, will suffer the same fate as hers.
He’ll be there in no time…

Looks more like the imprint of lawyers and liability.
Van Jones joins CAP, Bastardi to Fox News(?) … and so it goes.
Nomenclature as destiny? Perhaps. Fox News would be appropriate, but, let’s face it if he turned up at The Guardian doing a tag-team with Fred Pearce I would not be surprised. In this electronic age he could emerge anywhere or everywhere.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets picked up by a Scaife funded think tank like CFACT (Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow). That’s what happened to Morano, after he left his job as Inhofe’s “Communications Director”.
Scaife funded think tanks often act as a sort of retirement system for people who have gone the extra mile to please the right. After Newt Gingrich lost his seat in Congress, for example, he was getting salaries from two or three of them.
Get ready for the Bastardi Blog, coming soon. :(
Head vises will certainly be mandatory attire, for those who wander there.
Sou @6 — I never watch FauxNews. What happened to Palin’s show?
@ David, I don’t watch Fox either. I’ve checked and it seems I confused her reality series with the Fox contract.

She’s probably still with Fox.
HE WUZ FRAMED!!!

lolacaster
The head of the Bureau of Meteorology has rebuked Cardinal George Pell for his scepticism about climate change, insisting the man has been misled.
Sydney’s Catholic Archbishop is an outspoken disbeliever in man-made global warming, arguing that it was hotter during the Middle Ages and carbon dioxide levels are not historically high.
Bureau chief Greg Ayers used an appearance at a Senate estimates hearing yesterday to rip into the cardinal’s personal views.

It’s good to see him moving on. This blog can certainly take some credit.
Good going Joe
If a Faux News gig doesn’t work out for him, then KUSI here in San Diego would probably pick him up (KUSI’s alpha-denier John Coleman is getting up in years; Bastardi would be a worthy successor).
The Earth itself may be warming, but getting reports of a mini ice age in Hell today.
Suspected seismic/geological activities from ice melt is way to underreported.
I certainly don’t feel sorry for the man. Bastardi embarrassed nobody as much as himself. He actually may be too weird even for Fox- they are more
likely to hire someone like Curry or Spencer, who at least tiptoe into reality.
There’s always the bodybuilding circuit.
Does this mean that Accuweather will replace him with someone who actually knows what he or she is talking about?
Now that would be an improvement.
Quake shakes 30m tonnes of ice off glacier
The magnitude 6.3 earthquake that devastated Christchurch was strong enough to shake 30 million tonnes of ice loose from Tasman Glacier at Aoraki Mt Cook National Park.
Passengers of two explorer boats were hit with waves of up to 3.5 metres as the ice crashed into Terminal Lake under the Tasman Glacier at the mountain.
Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Village tourism manager Denis Callesen said huge icebergs formed in the lake, which were then rocked by massive waves for 30 minutes.
The danger to passengers could have been worse if not for safety proceedures put in place when it was suspected the area was becoming unstable, he said.

The single most important story for each real weatherman!
I’m guessing he’ll reappear with some nice gig as “Chief Professor of Strategic Climate Studies” at The Nonpartisan Ronald Reagan Patriot Institute for Democracy, Freedom, Prosperity and Ponies for Everybody, from where he can appear on Fox News as, obviously, an expert. What with the fancy title and everything.
Maybe he’ll apply for blogger at CP?
He’ll have some free time to actually learn how to read an anomaly map.
Let him do rum commercials.
Bacardi, of course….
dont let the door hit you on the way out. now if we could get rid of those “wake up with al” (roker) adverts on my cell. whod wanna wake up with al roker? talk about coyote ugly.
I think climateprogress.org could quote a more reliable source than “TheWeatherSpace”. Kevin Martin, the “meteorologist” doesn’t even have a degree (high school GED), and is posting hateful things around the internet (including many against the NWS). Look at what just got him banned from a forum today:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:ZbOBD2wiC2sJ:https://lunaticoutpost.com/Topic-Hey-Kevin-Martin-you-re-toast+lunaticoutpost.com
Definitely not a good thing for climateprogress.org to be associated with this guy’s website.
[JR: I'm not associated with him, any more than I am with the other outlets I cite. He broke the story, however.]
The measure of how far climate sanity is taking hold at Accuweather will be found in public statements of whomever replaces the Bastardi.
Will Accuweather continue to be synonymous with denial of the climate threat and voices of delay?
Here is their chance to polish their tarnished brand.
Good riddance to bad rubbish I say…
judging by he’s latest post

I’d say someone had a nice chat to him
I thought Bastardi already had a gig at Fox News. Seems that would be the top reason for resigning. Fox News means more money and more fame peddling pseudo-science.
It is confirmed on the site. I should note Henry Magusity is replacing his role and unlike Bastardi he is largely silent on global warming, he just focuses on long range weather. Nothing wrong with that as you already have Brett Anderson as the one specializes in global warming and he generally does a good job so probably best to leave it to him. I will though miss his long range forecasts as despite his bad climate predictions, he does have a good track record when predicting weather over the next six months. As for where he goes, maybe he will start his own weather company much like Piers Corbyn has in Britain and use that to promote his whole global cooling hypothesis. Maybe he will run for congress in 2012 or heck even president. I am sure the Republicans would love to have him although I don’t know much about his views on other issues.
Colorado Bob #16, Pell is a classic Rightwing agitator in a frock. He is a favourite of the News Ltd pathocrats and an undisguised partisan of the Right politically. He rose without trace in Rome, where he was a favourite of Wojtyla. His opinions on anthropogenic climate disruption are probably not his own, but penned for him by one of the Quadrant/ News Ltd denialist hacks. He is an increasing embarrassment to the more rational members of the Catholic hierarchy hereabouts. His denialism is pure ideology, as the opinions he expresses are risibly ignorant and comprises true Dunning Krugerite tropes, asserted with ecclesiastical certainty.
looks like skeptics are starting a retreat…good signs.
Maybe Bastardi will focus more on bodybuilding in preperation for a run as a state governor somewhere.
They said the same thing about Eratosthenes when he said the earth was round! I suspect that most, if not all of you never really read Joe’s column on a daily basis! You pick and choose parts of his column and dissect it. Joe has a better ‘hand’ on the weather and what it ‘will do’ than most… if not all of the so-called meteorologists out there!
He obviously had something Accuweather valued for a fair time, 32 years. But then it seems to be less about the science and more about personalities no matter where you look nowadays, doesn’t it?
