Great video Peter, and I liked the Wicked Witch sending her pet apes out image as you explained that a few carefully-crafted lies about the science of climate change gave fuel for most climate change deniers to go out and deciminate that mis-information as unwitting prawns.
Speaking of unwitting prawns, which are delicious, somehow my comment went out under Toby’s name, and I don’t want anyone to be my unwitting prawn. . .

Donations Allow Catawba Center to Drastically Reduce Cost of National Environmental Summit
High school juniors and seniors just got a huge break.
Recent donations to the National Environmental Summit for High School Students, scheduled for July 20-24 on the Catawba College campus, have allowed the Center for the Environment to drop the cost from $875 to $150, and the $50 registration fee is refundable if the student attends the summit.
That means it will cost the student only $100 for an opportunity to learn and explore innovative environmental solutions under the guidance of scientists and engineers from Rocky Mountain Institute, one of the world’s most successful solutions-based, sustainability-focused organizations, and faculty from Catawba College.
The event, “Redesigning Our Future,” is an intensive experience for rising high school juniors and seniors who want to learn more about becoming effective environmental leaders as they learn to apply techniques RMI uses in its global work in their schools, transportation and home life.
The summit, which will include follow-up activities via the Internet through May 2012, will emphasize whole systems thinking, helping students become collaborative leaders and effective communicators. Summit leaders will provide knowledge and analytical skills that will help the participants return to their schools and communities empowered to have a tangible impact.
One of the distinctive elements of the summit is that it will involve multiple disciplines and Catawba faculty from many departments. Students will explore the concept of environmental leadership through the perspective of their own skills and interest in the arts, humanities, education, business, science and technology. They will learn how essential elements of these varied disciplines – creativity, expression, innovation, research, experimentation and teamwork – are critical to their effectiveness as environmental leaders.
“This reduction in price has been an incredible boon for the program,” says John Wear, director of the Center for the Environment. “The generosity of our sponsors and other donors has been overwhelming. This should make the experience affordable for everyone.” (from NC EE listserve)

This is a great site. I notice it describes itself on Google as “A liberal blog on the science, solutions, and politics of climate change.” Is the word “liberal” really necessary or helpful here? It seems to me it can only drive away those who consider themselves otherwise. Climate change is affecting everyone, red and blue, and it seems to me the sooner people stop seeing it as a partisan issue, the better. I suppose “liberal” is necessary to indicate that this site is not one of the many dedicated to denying that climate change exists?

I have often thought the “liberal” descriptor was a little uncalled-for given what I know of this venue. I have often wondered about whose choice of word that was.
Looks like the work the Professional Misrepresentation Contingent. It’s not enough that they infest most of the discussion forums and distort people’s words, misrepresent them, take their words out of context, utterly destroy continuity of information, etc.
Dammit, it’s always something isn’t it.
Also, as just now occurs to me (yet again), my original intent was to comment on Peter’s truly excellent video. It is a very clear, succinct and appealing piece of work, perfect for teaching purposes. I am impressed and very appreciative.
To be fair to Google, the authorship of this blog is not shy in stating that liberal-style solutions to climate change are superior to conservative-style solutions … e.g. if either were implementable tomorrow, a carbon tax would be far simpler, more transparent, and more enforceable than cap & trade.
Of course that’s saying cap & trade is “conservative” which isn’t true in the USA. Conservatism in the US has been mostly taken over by denialists. So yeah, this is a liberal blog, because it’s about reality, and as Steven Colbert said, “Reality has a well known liberal bias.”
Excellent video by Peter Sinclair, as usual. He has a knack of pitching it just right so that the scientifically challenged among us can ‘get it’. I’m pretty sure I saw the original of that video before the latest update. But where I read about how CO2 helps to bring us out of ice ages first was here:

Just look at the bottom of that article and see who the guest contributor is, and the paper that is linked to. Snap!
Even after this ‘lag temperatures then lead temperatures’ effect of CO2 has been explained to them many times, the WUWT crowd still don’t get it. Willfully ignorant, they are.
Another splendid piece of work by Peter. The guy deserves a Nobel prize!
Weird with that “liberal” word cropping up. It’s nowhere in the HTML of the head section of the CP homepage. The only thing I wonder is whether somebody resubmitted the site to Google: on their submissions page it says:
“You may also add comments or keywords that describe the content of your page. These are used only for our information and do not affect how your page is indexed or used by Google.”
Could something have slipped through?
