Breaking News: Obama Calls On EPA To Pull Back Ozone Standards | President Obama asked the Environmental Protection Agency to pull proposed ozone standards. There were concerns about the cost of the new standards after Obama wrote in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner that implementation could cost up to $90 billion. The EPA has said the new regulations are required to increase protection for children and “at-risk” populations against respiratory and cardiovascular diseases related to exposure to ozone in the air. Update
Environmentalists began attacking Obama’s decision shortly after it was announced. “This is a huge win for corporate polluters and huge loss for public health,” said Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters. And Dan Weiss, CAP’s director of climate strategy, told Politico: “It’s unfortunate that the Administration is siding with big oil over the health of children, seniors, and the infirm.”
