I think it’s funny too. Dark humor, to be sure, but that is a Doonesbury specialty. And isn’t it actually a “super-truth,” about the candidates not having the courage to tell the truth? Thumbs up from me.
Garry Trudeau, a political and behind the curtain sharpie, has been titillating us with his obtuse attacks of the right wing for 40 years while never stepping up to say what he really believes. Yes, his contributions to Dem candidates will be used by him to emphatically say he is a progressive.
Well……
How about Trudeau giving us a comic strip that attacks the Kroch Bros as pathological bastards.
No! Trudea, like many of his “journalistic” colleagues believe readership is more important than serious “truthing”.
Or, more directly, and for the benefit of his thirsty readers……
Doonsebury visiting his high school and telling the students that his generation has just trashed theirs and that they had better get to the streets to stop us.
No. Pay check comes first. That’s the rule of the game.
Eileen Clausen at PEW and Fred Krupp at Environmental Defense and Dave Hawkins at NRDC are in the Trudeau canoe …gotta protect the image and not discourage members or turn away new members.
So, truth be told, we already knew what Trudeu conveyed in his cartoon strip. But, we don’t have a clue what he believes.
Hard to say that Trudeau is soft pedaling much in this strip! Sorry to put this bluntly, but if you don’t have a clue what Trudeau believes it’s not Trudeau’s fault.
I think there is a communication value in subtlety and ideological ambiguity. A sharp comic ability to skewer anyone who is being an idiot or hypocritical helps as well. And maintaining a readership is pretty important!
Trudeau doesn’t need to convert you to concern about climate change or fire you up with crazed rhetoric – but his sly parodies may be able to draw in some fence-sitters. The more Trudeau addresses climate change the better!
Then go with that! It’s like drinking pepsi and complaining that coke tastes better. Then why bother drinking pepsi, and just complaining about it, just drink the coke instead.
Seriously, this discussion is ludicrous. The very idea of someone who spends their time posting on internet boards lambasting another for only *moderately* sticking it to the man makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time – sort of a craugh.
If you actually believe Trudeau is guilty of some kind of half-measure, you need to:
1. Make some suggestions of full measures
2. Go out and do them.

Joe Romm has pulled together the secrets of the greatest communicators in history to show how you can apply these tools to your writing, speaking, blogging — even your Tweeting.
Sorry, it isn’t funny.
It’s up there with dead Kennedy jokes.
How about treating us to an honest appraisal by some big green boss.
The American public has grown used to huge asset growth over the last 35 years- in a short time line (5-7 years)
that is over- ACC will destroy that myth, along with the conservative movement of 50 years ago.
The Doonsebury one is going on the office door!
Mike, put it on your office floor!

What difference does it make what he believes? We don’t know what you believe, do we?
Those both are d****d fuuny!
In a darkish way…

Tom Toles does a better job.
Then go with that! It’s like drinking pepsi and complaining that coke tastes better. Then why bother drinking pepsi, and just complaining about it, just drink the coke instead.
Once again Trudeau speaks plainly while being funny. Lukovich is truth, but did not make me laugh aloud.
Half my news comes from comedians of some sort, and most of the rest from scientists or science blogs.
Good stuff.
Still, my favourite Doonsebury, the “science is too controversial” http://dericbownds.net/uploaded_images/Doonesbury.gif
That it’s not against the law to be overwhelmingly selfish and why?
Thanks Joe for relaying.
