An old landfill in Easthampton, MA will turn over a new leaf when one company turns it into a solar field in February. Borrego Solar Systems has put up nearly 10,000 solar panels which will create 2.3 megawatts of power for the electric grid — “enough to power 500 to 600 homes in Easthampton.” The superintendent of the project noted that the solar field is a particularly great idea as the landfill “can’t be used for anything because of the way it’s capped.” He added, “the power that’s being used is not burning fossil fuels to create energy for the town.”
