Please retweet and Like this. If you can help market the book, email me a “Hot Tip.”

If you’d like to be more persuasive, buy my new book Language Intelligence: Lessons on Persuasion from Jesus, Shakespeare, Lincoln and Lady Gaga in paperback (click here) or Kindle (click here).

For the past quarter century — since my first published article on Shakespeare in 1988 — I have studied the secrets of the greatest communicators in history. In this book, I show how you can apply these tools to your writing, speaking, blogging — even your Tweeting. I also discuss the latest social science research on how to be more persuasive and memorable.

One of the greatest speech-makers in the progressive movement gave me this jacket quote after reading a draft of the book two years ago:

Van Jones: This book changed my life, and it can change yours, too.  Joe Romm understands the secrets of persuasion and messaging and he has distilled them into this must-read book.”

As I say in the book’s opening line, “This book will change the way you speak and listen.” I believe that this book will change the lives of some significant fraction of those who buy it and read it — those who take its principles to heart and seek to master them.

I decided to give away the most important secret of blogging (and tweeting) in the book, which you can find in the excerpt at the Amazon Kindle page (click here and then hit “Click to Look Inside”).

This is easily my best book ever and by far my best written book as I apply the secrets of effective communications to the very writing of the book, something that took me years and years to achieve and the input of many, many editors.

Bill McKibben: “Joe Romm  is one of the best communicators we have. This book is the essential hand-book for anyone who wants to be more effective or more persuasive.

Everyone who has read this book so far loves it, and I will be reprinting a bunch of rave reviews and sweet tweets here this week.

Heidi Cullen just posted a great review at Climate Central:

Romm’s Book ‘Language Intelligence’ Insightful, Important

I would give you a money-back guarantee if there were an easy way to do it, but since I can’t, you’ll just have to take the word of Van Jones and Bill McKibben and Heidi Cullen for now. Or go read the Introduction and much of the first chapter here.

Finally, for those who want to go beyond just becoming more persuasive and help me maximize sales this week to get the best Amazon rank: You can retweet or repost this post — the headline was designed to reach many different audiences via Twitter.  You can also buy both the $14.99 paperback (click here) and $9.99 Kindle (click here). The Kindle has active links for all of the chapters and the footnotes, which include links to many of the great speeches of all time and much of the recent social science research on persuasive speech and writing. You’ll want that extra copy of the book to give away to a friend or family member who communicates for living.

    Thanks Joe.
Now . . can you PLEASE use your powers of persuasion to convince me who I should vote for this upcoming presidential election? How about writing a piece just on that topic?
If you feel it is Obama can you persuade me to feel good about my vote? Right now the thought of voting for Obama . . well . . I can’t even think about that today it will ruin my day (and today is a day to celebrate northern Illinois—it’s raining!).

    • Dennis Tomlinson says:

      “…northern Illinois—it’s raining!”
Better yet, it’s raining slowly and steadily – entirely soaking into the parched soil – not the feared gulley washer that so often ends long dry, hot spells.

I can’t offer a convincing argument to vote for Obama – except that he’s not one of the Rolls Royce brothers.

This is a valuable and exciting book. I’m still trying to digest it, but it’s stimulated my own reading of a Lincoln biography and two more books by McLuhan.

The science is pretty much in. We are now presented with the daunting challenge of fighting through the lies and corruption and reaching the people. Joe has always been a leader here, but he now takes it to another level.

Let’s all take a moment to say thanks to Joe Romm, who is becoming a national treasure. He is a special guy, a Shakespeare/Lincoln buff who is trained in physics and (like many of us here) obsessed with stopping the carnage that is global warming. There is no better path to do so than that shown in the meditations found in this new book.

Americans are getting tired of sound bites and focus group tested button pushing. It’s past time to speak from the heart, and to reach us in deeper ways. As McLuhan said, a single word can contain more nuance and complexity than our largest computers. Let’s all work on tapping into that age old magic, and awaken the better qualities in all of us.

I put in my order–looks like something that I can use in my teaching.

Hopefully it will be showing up on the shelves of local bookstores? Every link in article above (unless I missed something) goes right to Amazon. I prefer to support my local bookstore. Good news (?) is Amazon is not longer part of ALEC.

    • Joe Romm says:

In a few weeks you can order it through a local bookstore but to go the traditional publisher route would mean charging more for the book and handing over 80% to 90% of the profits to them when I do all the work. So I’m afraid most traditional publishers are going to go the way of newspapers, and that means local bookstores will continue their downward spiral.

      • Lore says:

I was going to say; “What local bookstores?” Those that are left have become libraries for ordering the digital download versions online.

What concerns me, is what will happen if the lights ever decided to go out? Keep a stash of valuable hard copies on your shelves just in case.

  5. Artful Dodger says:

Congratulations, Joe. Really looking forward to reading this title. Good job!

  6. Mark Shapiro says:

Umm, Joe, how did you do this? I barely have time to read your blog, yet you wrote your blog and this book?

    Write on!

  7. Jan says:

I’ll put it on my Christmas wish list. Hopefully Amazon Germany or a local book store can deliver.
I wonder if it deals with some of the “big” JFK speeches, which I consider to be among the best I read/watched/heard.

Here’s an example of “you can write what you want if you own the printing press’, but in this case it’s a Spanish language TV News Network and the owner is Fox News. If you have enough money you can say what you want enough times and it becomes the ‘truth’, in Spanish. These folks are diabolical, si?

MundoFox’s 6 p.m. national newscast will be anchored from Los Angeles by the Peabody Award-winning journalist Rolando Nichols. (The division will be separate from the company’s New York-based Fox News Channel). MundoFox says its newscast will be the only one in Spanish that will air live on both the East and West coasts. RCN will provide international newscasts.

Since I’m boycotting Amazon, will it be available elsewhere?
