Must-See Video: Science Girl Explains How Dirty Energy Causes Dirty Weather

I think we can all be thankful for precocious children everywhere — they are the last great hope for homo sapiens.

Wonderful presentation. Now if we can just get enough people to really listen and pay attention and join in the
fight against dirty energy. It shouldn’t be a fight to have clean energy and air, but unfortunately, there are many fighting against the needed change.
Demonstrations such as yours will help others realize that climate change is real and we each need to do what we can to help reverse it.

I am sitting here trying to grasp the importance and value of what I just witnessed. This young lady should be the Malala of America. A young lady willing to challenge any and all who stand between her and a healthy planet.

Folks if we don’t figure out how to make this young lady Milly Cyrus of the climate hawks world, then we will have failed yet again to help Kade Benfield talk to the average American family. Kade, this is your serendipity moment. Whatever it takes.

And, Joe, you should interview that young lady. Her peers are begging to get behind something, someone. This is their Tonkin Gulf moment and we should be hyping every massage maker that can talk to them as a peer and not as a commercial.

  3. John McCormick says:

Sorry. Obviously, spell checker failed me. “message” maker….And massaging messages is detrimental to our well being.

  4. Kota says:

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Joe. Great video.

  5. Kitty Arendse says:

So there Science-Girl.. wish you had been in my class years ago.. what fun we all would have had with your great show about weather and we all had danced with you afterwards celebrating your lesson !! LOVE IT! Too bad I retired years ago. SO YOU!!!>> Keep up the good works. And if you are about to teach a fun class on any subject, please let me know…For I happen to be in the States then, who knows I might attend one of your entertaining lectures! liefs,(love)Kitty from Huizen in Holland.

  6. John McCormick says:

Kaid, a good time to check in.

    Happy holiday.

  7. Kim Feil says:

I hope she’ll do a science fair project on the hazards of fracking, only she can use fake silica dust, diesel Benzene and Radium.

  8. Mulga Mumblebrain says:

Poor girl. I hope she’s brave, because, thanks to the dead souls, she’s going to need to be.

  9. Mond from Oz says:

Mulga: I attended a presentation at Sydney Uni by Martin Rees (Astronomer Royal, Sir, Lord, etc.) At one point he said “I only give humanity a 50% chance of surviving the 21st Century” The usual greybeards (me incl) nodded sagely. Then I thought Why the F*** aren’t we screaming? Sh**, during the Vietnam war I was out on the street with a few million others the world over. We won, remember?

So why aren’t we in Oz producing our own great kid to speak up, and where’s the movement to get behind her. Why is GetUp avoiding a leadership role in this? Where’s the Demo, for god’s sake?

  10. John McCormick says:

Folks, pick it up a notch. This is an event and person worthy of our best shot.

Hell n High Water has pretty much arrived… its certainly going to be Chaos…

Floods and gales bring chaos and misery to UK
Britain mops up after downpours and 70mph winds cause damage and disruption with more rain forecast for weekend

UK was battered again by rain and gales.

A band of heavy rain accompanied by winds of 70mph trundled across much of the country from the north-west, bringing with it chaos.

It beats me. There is no leadership from a debased ‘Labor’ Party that cannot even spell its own name, and has sold out its every principle. The Greens talk a good talk, but it’s ineffective, and, if Abbott wins a major victory, by appealing to the most appalling instincts of xenophobia and greed, they will be totally irrelevant.
I fear some desperate act by those smart enough to see the Hell opening up before them. And that would play right into the Right’s fascistic inclinations. Indeed some sort of ‘Green 9/11’ either real or a ‘false flag’ provocation seems, to me, to be inevitable. The world of late capitalism is dissolving into neo-feudalism and ecological carnage, with vast tracts of land becoming ‘free-fire zones’ and tens of millions driven to despair and rage against the global overlords. In an atmosphere like this, of worsening rich world barbarism, and rapidly spreading misery and want, what chance for global co-operation in facing the ecological crises?

Climate Change Strains Nation’s Transportation Lifelines
WASHINGTON (AP) — Wild weather is taking a toll on roads, airports, railways and transit systems across the country. That’s leaving states and cities searching for ways to brace for more catastrophes like Superstorm Sandy that are straining the nation’s transportation lifelines beyond w…

  15. Ozonator says:

    Paul Magnus,

The “Hell n High Water … Chaos” is a series of worldwide AGW events starting about 2-weeks ago due to no cost dumping of predicted CO2 and other waste products under the guise of EssoKochs’ free speech for a corporate citizen.

In the US northwest, “Record rainfall in season’s first big storm” (By Lynn Thompson, Seattle Times staff reporter;, 11/19/12). “Sudden Snow Aims for Great Lakes, Northeast Highways” (By Alex Sosnowski, Expert Senior Meteorologist;, 11/21/12). Outside of Beaumont, “150-vehicle pileup on foggy Texas highway leaves 2 dead, 100 hurt” (By Matt Pearce;, 11/22/12). “Over 31,000 lightning strikes light up South Australia overnight” (By Brett Williamson;, 11/21/12). “Heavy Rains Flood 3 Jakarta Municipalities” (Jakarta Globe;, 11/23/12). “A). … 5). In the 1st week of the 2-weeks model, the 100th JCS-MADDD Model (11/11 – 17/12) produced AGW disasters from watery misery to the destruction of an F-22 Raptor. “Nearly three quarters of Venice was flooded on Monday and tourists swam in St Mark’s Square as a wave of bad weather swept through northern and central Italy, forcing the evacuation of 200 people from their homes in Tuscany. … High water in Venice reached 149 cm (5ft), the sixth highest level since records began in 1872 …“ (“Venice Flooded: Tourists, Locals Make Way Through Venice As Heavy Rain Pounds Italy (PHOTOS)”; Reporting by Steve Scherer and Naomi O’Leary; editing by Barry Moody; Reuters;, 11/12/12). “Tornado-like winds hit Portugal’s Algarve, 8 injured” (Reporting By Andrei Khalip; Editing by Pravin Char;, 11/16/12). … In Minnesota, “First snow causes 50 crashes, spinouts in Twin Cities” (KMSP;, 11/12/12). “Valero Port Arthur, TX, refinery reports emissions from FCCU” (, 11/13/12). … About 120 miles from Pensacola, “Jet crashes near Panhandle Air Force base” (AP;, 11/15/12) and “Another Day, Another $678 Million Stealth Jet Wrecked” (BY DAVID AXE;, 11/16/12). … “GBRWE 11/11 – 17/12 ‘regular’ for global warming predictions: sports, rainfall, tornadic, hurricane, and stellar ecosystems with tectonic quantities … by Robert Rhodes, The “Ozonator” … B1). Weeks’ Reporting Period of GBRWE 11/11 – 17/12. The Ozonator’s global warming (AGW) pendulum swings back the other way to make a whole lot of every freezing, flooding, man-eating, and colliding infrastructure. Most should see a catastrophic increase… flooding … tornado swarms, lithospheric engines (e.g. collapsed buildings and/or damage to bridges, pipelines, rail lines, ships, aircraft, U.S. Air Force/etc. drones, and spacecraft not reaching vacuum) … Looter limbaugh and other extremist Republican – Christian – EssoKochFox attacks, spontaneous abortions with other pro-life child abuse, and residual wildfires …”. … “A). … 1). Regular qualitative predictions are US for “normal” catastrophic, violent AGW ecosystems (quakes to CMEs to toxic feticide) from the rotten EssoKochFox’s and their willing accomplices. The 100th JCS-MADDD Model (11/11 – 17/12), with many watery nightmares of up to 68” of rain to 68’ of snow, will be unleashed all across Allah’s good Earth not burning up from drought that includes an increase risk for Valero-type employees and equipment but will not impede their investors, extremist Republicans and Christians’ free pollution exports – with no adaptation possible – to help generate more catastrophic flooding, blizzards, other water-related catastrophes, potential for Manhattan-size icebergs calved in 2 weeks, and fireballs” (GBRWE 11/11 – 17/12”s Extreme Planetary Warnings for Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Solar/Terrestrial Flares from Human Activities; Robert Rhodes, Supplemental; GBRWE 11/11 – 17/12, 11/10/12)” (GBRWE 11/18 – 24/12”s Extreme Planetary Warnings for Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Solar/Terrestrial Flares from Human Activities; Robert Rhodes, Supplemental; GBRWE 11/18 – 24/12, 11/17/12).

  16. Merrelyn Emery says:

Mond and Mulga, ordinary people simply have no idea of the scale of the problem. They are aware that the rate of disasters is going up but don’t know that the current rate results from emissions from the 70s and 80s. They quote the carbon legislation as our answer and believe it will do the job as they have been led to believe. Until the real scale of the emergency is made public, we have a major catastophe and Martin Ferguson gets rolled, don’t expect any demos, ME

  17. Joan Savage says:

It looks staged on numerous counts. The video producers get an F for burning plastic, and indoors to boot.

  18. Jamie says:

Anyone know where that animated distribution of cold and hot temperatures from NASA at 1:02 can be found?

  19. John McCormick says:

  20. Susan Anderson says:

Beautifully done, though I too cringed at the burning plastic (PCBs and/or other carcinogens).

Poetic license issued, though I presume, because of the direct and well thought out clarity of the message.

  21. Mulga Mumblebrain says:

They’ll come ME, but they will be too late. The great Australian mediocrity were tutored well under Howard in the habits of mindless greed and downward social envy, worship of the rich and global xenophobia. The false and wicked consciousness inculcated in so many people is the greatest hindrance to our salvation. I meet people every day who react to talk of the environment in the same manner as one of Dr Pavlov’s dogs. The mere mention of the evil ‘greenies’, that the MSM has vilified for decades, gets them growling and barking, and looking for someone to bite.

  22. Mond from Oz says:

    Mulga and ME
Ok, so this is a problem in communication to a mass audience. Lets call them the ‘Telly and Alan Jones Brigade’ And that’s not to put them down from some lofty SMH/NYRB podium. There’s been enough of that, and it’s part of the problem. Read Joe Bageant, ‘Waltzing at the Doomsday Ball’

There are specialists who know how to sell to these guys.. sell them stuff they don’t need and can’t afford, and that begins with selling an idea. So why don’t we ask them, for example the guys on that Gruen Transfer program? Hear this: If you want to create change, first create necessity.

So you two, instead of sobbing into our Chardonnay, why don’t we think along these lines. Specifically, for the poor sod dozing over the sports page, or the poor soddette fixated on Brad Pitt and Angelina, for them.

Perhaps its a question of joining the dots? o

  23. Merrelyn Emery says:

Mulga, there are a few rabid anti-greens in the general population but in my Latin Square Design survey they appeared as a small, almost cult group.

Mond, I wouldn’t dream of crying into my very nice Cab Sav Merlot and there are a few obstacles to your proposal which are interrelated: e.g. it is much easier to flog useless products than good ideas and all agencies cheat in how they measure the success of their ‘prosocial’ campaigns (by measuring ad recognition rather than behavioural change); the most influential ads contain no information (Coke is Life) and work purely on generating positive emotion; the cost of getting an ad to screen is astronomical. Our best bet now is some straight talking when the next disaster strikes – the people appear aware and concerned, just need the spark, ME

Where can I get the NASA hot days versus cold days graph referred to in the video? Anybody have a link to that?
