Florida Gov. Scott Signs Draconian Unemployment Benefits Cut Into Law

Yesterday, Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL) signed into law draconian cuts to Florida’s unemployment benefit system that reduced the state’s 26 weeks of benefits (the national standard) down to just 12. The law also makes it more difficult for the unemployed to obtain benefits at all. According to the National Employment Law Project, with this law, Florida will “go further than any other state in dismantling its unemployment insurance system.”
