103,000 Jobs Created In September, Unemployment Rate Stays At 9.1 Percent

According to the today’s report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy created 103,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate stayed steady at 9.1 percent. Continuing a trend, the private sector created 137,000 jobs, but the public sector continued hemorrhaging jobs, losing 34,000. The increase partially reflects the return of 45,000 striking Verizon workers to the payrolls. The numbers from July and August were revised upward to +127,000, and +57,000, respectively.
