White House Threatens To Veto House GOP Transportation Bill

The White House yesterday threatened to veto the House Republicans’ transportation bill, saying in a Statement of Administration Policy that the bill would “reduce safety throughout the Nation’s transportation system by failing to make necessary investments in roads and bridges.” The administration also noted that the GOP’s bill “eliminates programs that ensure the Nation’s metropolitan areas have sufficient resources to provide multiple transportation options to help reduce congestion.” As we’ve noted, the GOP’s transportation bill would slam low-income Americans who depend upon public transportation. The administration also objected to the inclusion in the bill of approval of the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline, as well as expanded offshore oil drilling.
